@maria <3 It was early January, one of the first weekends of the month. Samuel had taken the week after Christmas off and he was enjoying himself immensely. Mostly because he was able to sleep in and buy his chocolate cake every day, but it was also nice to have some of the stress go from his career. Samuel knew he'd be back to it the following week, but as of right now he was in a fantastic mood. Nothing could ruin it. Not anyone, not anything.
He had brought his guitar into town and picked up a small coffee. They hadn't had a lot of snow recently, so there were spots where the grass was finally showing as the snow had begun to melt a lot. Samuel grinned, conjuring a blanket and laid it down on a grass patch. Thank goodness for being able to dress warm; his Ministry clothes helped out a lot with that, especially the coat. Samuel sat down, and took off his gloves before he set them on his knee. He rested the guitar on his lap, playing a few chords here and there.

The Christmas holiday had been quite enjoyable. Surprising at times, and enjoyable. Maria was planning on meeting up with Viola later on during this Hogsmeade trip, but at the moment she was free. She was tempted to go find Elias, to see if he was meeting the elusive Fred Weasley and finally get a good look at the boy her cousin was crushing on. He'd made it quite clear that he wouldn't be introducing her to Fred yet, and warned her against asking around about him but Elias had said nothing of following. Some might call it stalking, but could you blame her? She was curious! This Fred must be an interesting fellow (most likely handsome to boot) to make Elias seriously question what he liked.
Thankfully (for Elias) she got side tracked. She'd spotted a familiar stranger (kind of hard to miss his trade mark dreadlocks) settling down on a blanket with a guitar. He wasn't looking her way, so it was easy, far to easy, to slink up behind him and lay down on the blanket next to him, on her stomach with her head in her hands and tilted to grin at him. "I didn't know you were a musician." She stated rather than greeted.

@maria <3 The few chords he was playing were just a refresher. Samuel hadn't actually played his guitar in a very long time and it was nice to have the feeling of the strings back on his fingertips. Before he had become so busy with work, Samuel tended to play every night. But now he was so exhausted that he had time to eat dinner, wash up and clean a bit, then just go to sleep. And while he still hadn't played a song yet, the guitar caught someone's eye. That someone who he had seen every time he had come to Hogsmeade, and still managed to take up all of his time.
Maria had practically slid in next to him, lying on the blanket and grinning up at him. Samuel tilted his head, his eyebrows wide in confusion. This girl was always around. Didn't she have anything better to do than hang out with some older stranger? "There's a lot you don't know about me, Maria." Samuel reached forward and picked up his coffee, taking a sip, before putting it down and looking back down at the guitar, playing a few more notes. "You seem to have a knack for finding me here."

Aw, Samuel didn't jump. Darn. Maria liked it when people were startled by her sudden appearance and she'd been pretty sure he hadn't seen her coming. Maybe he just didn't startle easy. "True, but musician is a pretty attractive trait." She teased. Hey, just because he'd made it clear that he'd never be attracted to her because she was a 'child' didn't mean she wouldn't still flirt. She shrugged as best she could laying there, then rolled onto her back and stared up at the clear sky, watching him out of the corner of her eyes as she smirked. "I was trying to fin my cousin actually. He's going on a date and he's determined not to introduce me to the fellow, so I've determined to stalk him." She admitted with absolutely no hesitation or even embarrassment that she'd attempt such a thing. Seeing Samuel had simply been to good of a distraction to pass up.

@maria <3 "Thank you, I think I've heard that before, though." Samuel gave Maria a small smirk. Her flirting wasn't put past him, and he'd have to be very daft to be embarrassed by her words. Granted, he didn't think that's what she was trying to do, but having a seventeen year old girl flirting with him still gave him a small unsettling feeling in the pit of his stomach. Maria rolled over onto her back and tilted her head to look at him, and he rose a brow, but continued to play a few more notes before setting the guitar down flat on his lap. Samuel leaned backwards onto the palms of his hands. "Why stalk him when you can just interrupt his date like you interrupt my day?" He laughed.

@jill7
Maria flirted with everyone, regardless of their age or gender. It really wasn't that unusual for her. "Of course you have. It's a fact." Maria personally didn't play any instruments. She found it too tedious to learn. She had plenty of other things to focus on instead. Maybe if she'd started younger she might have been interested in it, but as it was, she liked musicians.
Maria raised an eyebrow as she asked why she didn't just interrupt the date like she did his day. She sat up a little, braced back on her elbows as she grinned at him. "One, because you seemed lonely here by yourself. And two because I don't feel like being scolded by him for ruining his date. Especially not after I convinced him to try dating. I just wanted to... Make sure it went alright." more like make sure Elias didn't get hurt but also to see just who this 'Fred Weasley' was. She was mosey like that.

@maria <3 "And how do you have proof of such a fact?" He rose an eyebrow at her, continuing to drink his coffee. While he had heard before that musicians were considered attractive people, Samuel had never had anyone develop feelings for him just because he can sing or play guitar. He had been singing since he was young, and playing guitar just as long. It came naturally to him. Other's had difficulties learning to play or how to sing on key, but Samuel had always found it easy and fun.
Samuel laughed, shaking his head. "Lonely? Why in the world would I be lonely? If that was so, I'd have been looking for company a long time ago." As Maria continued to speak of her cousin, his eyes narrowed. "I'd have scolded you as well. Why can't you wait for his date to be done for him to tell you about it? Following him is only chancing ruining it, and that would be all on you."

Maria raised an eyebrows unison with his own (partially to tease him) as he demanded for proof. "I don't need proof, just look at some of the professional musicians. They have fan clubs." something she had never understood. But Maria also didn't understand how someone couls be attracted to someone they'd never even met. Maria preferred partners she could realistically reach.
Sure, he probably had wanted to be alone. Otherwise he wouldn't have been sitting here with his guitar. If he'd wanted company he would have found someone. Rather then responding though Maria just seat up completely and shrugged. Though the look he gave her, as if silently scolding her made the girl cock her head dramatically to the side, her dark hair brushing over her shoulder and some falling between her eyes. It was an almost... innocent look. "Because I'm worried for him." she answered bluntly and honestly with absolutely no signs of jesting. "He was nervous about it, and I don't want him to get hurt." No doubt Elias would have suspected she might eavesdrop on the date at at least one point. But she was trying not to intervene in his life as much. Taking a step back and simply watching to make sure he stayed safe was huge progress for her.

@maria <3 Samuel just laughed. If he had a fan club that would be a sight to see, and he was sure it would never happen. Samuel wasn't one to be very open about his musical talent, at least not to play for people. Sure, he'd be able to play like he was now, just in a park. But never on stage. It wasn't something he was comfortable with. "Are you my fan club? The one and only Maria?" Samuel smiled at her. He was kidding of course, and he knew she'd understand that.
Maria sat up more and tilted her head. When her eyebrows rose to match his own, he pretty much just rolled his eyes at her. There were certain things about her that bluntly told Samuel she was young, this was such a thing. Not many people would tease like that just for fun. "You can be worried for him without barging in on his privacy, but that's just me. Maybe he doesn't mind it, but do you know that?" Samuel understood her reasoning and why she did what she did, he had the same types of feelings towards his own sister but wouldn't act on it. "First dates are nerve wracking events. Even dates after that; he might just not want to embarrass himself or ruin anything. Not necessarily be nervous that he'll get hurt. Not everyone is out to hurt you, Maria."

Maria grinned widely. His laughing like that was nice, especially the fact that she'd been the one to get him to laugh. As he teased back though her own soft laughter answered. "Maybe. You need to impress me with your skills first though." she responded just as jokingly as his own comment.
Maria straightened her head and ran her fingers through her hair, brushing the dark locks away from her eyes and face. Laying back down on her back she raised her left arm, her wrist above her head as she stared at the bracelet that rested there. It was cool to the touch at the moment. "I know.." she answered slowly and quietly, her eyes never wavering from that stone in the bracelet. Was it wrong to want to always protect Elias? Both physically and emotionally? "I just don't want him to ever see how ugly this world can be." she whispered, more to herself than Samuel but he'd be able to hear that soft thought.

@maria <3 "Impress? Oh, Maria my skills don't need to be shown." He knew he had them, he knew he was good at singing and playing his guitar. But he was just teasing her. Thankfully she had caught him in a good mood. The past few times hadn't ended the best but obviously she kept coming back for more. Why, he didn't know but she amused him. "But since you asked...What would you like me to play?"
He watched as her entire body moved, changing positions once more. This was obviously a sore subject for Maria as she became very solemn and quiet. Samuel rose an eyebrow, and placed the guitar back in the grass. Turning so he was adjacent to her, he sat criss cross with his elbows on his knees. "He has to see. Otherwise he won't be able to learn. You can't protect him from everyone and everything, Maria."

"Well then how am I to decide if you're fan club worthy? Good looks and charm with only get you so far in the musical world." Maria continued to tease him. Surprisingly she wasn't flirting. He'd already made it pretty obvious that he didn't consider her an adult, so why should she bother with her usual antics?
Maria stared at the bracelet around her wrist in silence for several moments. Several long moments. Silence that was only broken by Samuel as he moved, followed by his voice. Softly answering that thought she'd voiced aloud. She slowly lowered had arm, laying it flat on the ground next to her and turned her head to stare at him. Her gaze unreadable. "......" She didn't say anything at first. Just kept that intense gaze on him. "I can try. He's been through enough already." No one deserved to go through what Elias did with that despicable man known as his father. She couldn't protect him then, but she could now. From anything.

@maria OOC: He's singing Dive by Ed 😜 <3 "Not so sure what charm I've got, but my skill is impeccable." Smiling, teeth and all, Samuel played a few chords, coughed, and then began to play a song he had learned a few months ago. It wasn't too difficult, and a somewhat slower song, and while his voice was a bit rusty it sounded wonderful. As he sang, Samuel really got into it, closing his eyes and moving his body and head to the beat of the lyrics, his dreads falling over his shoulder.
He watched as Maria stared at the bracelet on her wrist. He tilted his head, and smiled. "That's a nice bracelet, Maria." The silence she gave wasn't shocking, he supposed she was thinking of what to say or how to say it, either way, Samuel would sit and wait. Maria seemed upset, and whatever was bothering her was sure to get out sooner or later. "You can try, but you'll tire yourself out. You should be protecting yourself also. And besides, it's just a date. It's not like he's leaving the country for months, right? He'll be back tonight."

"Skill can be charming." Maria answered immediately with a shrug as e smiled and played a little. A moment later, and started to actually play and quietly sing. He wasn't bad, not at all. And he seemed to completely relax as he played, With his eyes closed he wouldn't see wide grin soften into a subtle smile. It was a rare sight, such a tender look and Maria wouldn't have left her expression relax like that if he'd been looking. She let him sing and play for a time, getting through the song. "So you do have talent. Now you definitely need a fan club." She teased before sitting up and tugging lightly on one of those dreadlocks that had fallen over his shoulders. "So why dreadlocks?" She hadn't pulled that hard, just enough to get his attention if his eyes weren't open yet before releasing the dreadlock and grinning.
Maria glanced at Samuel, then back at the bracelet. Se knew he wouldn't know about the enchantment Elias had put on it. "Yes, it is." She answered simply, offering no explanation as to where she'd gotten it or what it might mean. But he'd probably be used to that by now, her refusal to give any information that wasn't directly asked for.
Her eyes narrowed a little as he spoke, saying she'd just tire herself out and she should protect herself. She knew it was just a date. She shouldn't be worried about it. "I can do both." She stated. Protect herself and Elias. She might be.... overprotective of him, but simply being willing to step back and watch from aware (ready to jump in if need be, of course) was huge progress for her. Before she would have stopped Elias long before it ever got to this point. She glanced away then, obviously annoyed that he was pushing the subject. "Enough about my cousin's dating life. Why don't we talk about yours? Or... well lack there of. You didn't bring one to the Yule Ball." She stated, turning the subject terrifyingly fast from Elias to Samuel. And the Yule Ball. Of course noticed him. She'd spotted him after she'd left that charming Gryffindor boy and kept tabs on him the rest of the night despite switching between a multitude of partners.

@maria <3 As Samuel finished the song, he couldn't help but smile brightly at Maria's compliment. "I told you I have talent, you just chose not to believe me." He enjoyed being the person to make someone else realize they were wrong, even if it was someone who was almost a decade younger than he was. Not that it was just her age that made him humor himself, but it did make it more fun. Maria sat up and tugged on one of his dreads and he rolled his eyes at her, of course she'd do that...like a kitten. "Why? Not sure. It's my signature look. If I'm honest, though, I wouldn't mind cutting them." He'd had them for so long that as they grew longer they became annoying at times but they did make him stand out.
Samuel laughed at her three word comment on the bracelet. She was definitely difficult to get through. "Who gave that to you?" That was all he really wanted to know. Not all the specifics of it. The bracelet was beautiful, and a nice shiny red to match. Maria narrowed her eyes at him and he just smiled at her, completely unphased by her slight attitude. "You can." Samuel knew when to pick his battles, and she obviously wasn't going to give this one up. He felt for her cousin though, and hoped he'd have the decency to tell her when to let go at some point. Then, ah, there it was. The Yule Ball. Of course she'd seen him there, even though he had made sure to linger in the back. "Yes, my dating life is quite nonexistent, but why does that matter? And to you?" He set down his guitar and leaned forward onto his elbows. "I did not bring anyone. I haven't got a girlfriend or anyone I'm interested in. And I probably won't for a long time."
