Fred had had a specific reason for coming to Hogsmeade, but he had gotten a little sidetracked from his goal. His diversion had been related to his original purpose, though, so Fred wasn't going to complain about it happening, especially because it mean that he was going to have a great conversation starter. Finding Elias was proving more difficult than Fred had anticipated, which wasn't actually saying a lot - Elias was tall enough that Fred had expected finding him to be a breeze. Eventually Fred decided just to stand on a bench near the end of the road, shading his eyes from the brightness of the winter sun. After what felt like forever, Fred finally spotted Elias in the crowd, and began waving his hands wildly to try to catch the other boy's attention. "Elias!" Fred called, hoping the extra height from the bench he was standing on would make it easier to spot him.

Elias didn't come to Hogsmeade thinking he'd see Fred there every time. While it would be nice, he was sure Fred had a lot to handle with his job and his own family that he'd only go when he was free. Well, that had seemed to have been every Saturday that Elias had shown up. January was still cold, so he was all bundled up. Though, Elias didn't get too cold all that quickly so he just wore a thick sweater. And if he went into shops and such, it would get warmer. He was actually walking past an interesting shop when he heard his name being yelled. An eyebrow going up, he turned to see Fred - standing on a bench. Elias gave him a look, but ended up laughing as he walked closer. "What you doing up there?"

When Elias got closer, or at least close enough that Fred was confident he wouldn’t lose him in the crowd, the Gryffindor jumped down from his perch and made his way over to the Durmstrang boy. Elias asked what he had been doing on the bench, and Fred cracked a smile. “I needed to be able to see you, and not all of us are outrageously tall.” He said with a shrug. It was a perfectly legitimate solution to a perfectly legitimate problem. Fred blinked at Elias. “Nice sweater.” He commented. Fred’s grandma knitted all of his cousins sweaters, but according to his dad, she had a hard time knitting him any because it reminded her of – surprise! – his dead uncle. Fred wasn’t particularly broken up over it, but sometimes he did wish he had a cool sweater to wear every once in a while. “Guess who I met earlier today?” Fred asked Elias.

@fred <3 Elias let out a laugh and shrugged. "You don't have to be tall to see me! I'd sure see you! But I'm almost positive you'd see someone who was much taller than you. It's an unusual site to see." He laughed again, but it stopped when Fred spoke and Elias tilted his head, looking down at his sweater then back to the Gryffindor. "I'm not sure if I should take that seriously or if you're making fun of it." He didn't think Fred would actually do that, but you never know! Elias loved this sweater; he had gotten it from his mother the year prior at Christmastime. It was very warm and soft and not itchy. "Uhh... Is this supposed to be an easy question?"

Elias said that Fred didn’t have to be tall to see him, which was probably true, but sometimes Fred liked to take initiative. “Eh, I just wanted to eliminate any chance from the situation.” Fred said with a smile. He didn’t want to risk not seeing Elias because he had too much pride to stand up on a bench. Fred chuckled a little when Elias looked down at the sweater and then back at him – it was a little comical. “I meant it sincerely.” Fred assured the Durmstrang student. “My family has a penchant for sweaters.” Fred hated how much he brought up his family around Elias, but it seemed like no matter what Elias said, there was a family member that it reminded Fred of. When Elias asked if Fred’s previous question was supposed to be an easy one, the Gryffindor’s grin broadened. “Think of people related to you who would have an interest in meeting me.” Fred said. It was a pretty easy hint, but Fred didn’t want to spend precious time waiting for Elias to guess each of his family members before getting to the right one.

@fred <3 Elias smiled back at Fred. That was true, and he supposed it was probably a much easier way to find him than looking at all the faces around him and taking the chance of missing Elias. When he laughed at his comment on the sweater, Elias puffed his chest up a bit and smirked. "Well thank you, it's nice and snowy-like." He laughed. Technically he didn't wear sweaters very much, but this one was a favorite of his. "That's interesting." Sweaters were unusual, but everyone was different. When Fred spoke again, Elias' eyes widened. Maria. He quickly looked him over, grabbing his arm and lifting it up, moving around him in a circle. "Are you alright? Did she hurt you? Fire?!"

Fred smiled when Elias accepted his compliment, and nodded when the other boy said that his family’s sweater obsession was interesting. “You know, I’ve always been kind of disappointed by my cousins’ names. We get our first initial on the sweater,” Well, they did, but Elias didn’t need to know that detail, “And there’s so many opportunities to spell out bad words! But we don’t have enough vowels.” Only Albus and Ondina had names that started with vowels, which was lame, because it eliminated any curse word with an e, i, or u…which was the majority of the good ones. “No, there was no fire. There were some fairly creative threats, though.” Fred said. If he was a lesser man, he would have probably run away from Elias right then and there to avoid Maria’s possible wrath, but Fred was doing a lot of strange things lately in the pursuit of love.

@fred <3 Elias' eyebrow rose as Fred explained about the sweaters in his family. It made sense. Elias thought about it, and him and his siblings couldn't make a curse word either. At least not one that he could think of, if they had sweaters. "Well maybe when all you and your cousins have children you'll be able to do that! Though I might wait til they're a bit older." He chuckled. Hearing children swear could be funny sometimes, but definitely not a good thing to teach them. Elias groaned as Fred explained what Maria had done. Of course she had threatened him. "Oh, don't listen to her. She wouldn't do anything...except probably threaten you and make fun of you somehow. Unless she likes you of course, and doesn't think you're trying to steal me."

Elias suggested that when his cousins started having children, they could be named for the opportunities to spell out bad words. “I’m not patient enough for that.” Fred whined. There was still a solid…five, maybe ten, years before his cousins started popping out babies, and even then, Fred wondered if they would have many at all. He knew for certain that some of his cousins were interested in same-sex partners, and if that was true, then they weren’t necessarily going to be able to name their children, because adoption was weird like that. “Besides, if my grandmum ever figured out what I was doing…” Fred shuddered. She would have more than a few choice words for him. “Maria doesn’t bother me any.” Fred said with a shrug. He expected to be more afraid of her, but really, how could he be afraid when they both wanted the same thing – Elias to be happy?

@fred <3 Fred's whining made Elias laugh. Patience was a virtue, and Elias was lucky enough to have plenty of it. Why he did he wasn't so sure, but he assumed it had built up more and more as a child just waiting for certain things to happen. If he thought about it more, it would probably remind him quite a bit about learning his werewolf form and how to deal with it. "I don't know her, but I'm sure with the stories you've told me she's dealt with worse." Elias grinned, but it faded slightly at Fred's comment on Maria. "I'm glad, but I hate to say it, she should. She's not afraid of...anything. If she has any suspicions she won't hold back. Especially with me."

Fred bobbed his head in agreement when Elias said that his grandmother had dealt with worse in her time. “Anyone who raised my pops can easily handle me.” The Gryffindor agreed. Especially because when he had been growing up, George had had a partner-in-crime. Everyone knew having a partner-in-crime more than doubled the trouble. “Trust me, Elias.” Fred said with a wave of his hand. “If I die young, I’ve got to do it in some ridiculously noble way, while laughing, because that’s how first-version Fred did it.” Maybe Elias didn’t believe in destiny working that way, but Fred did, and he couldn’t see himself laughing if Maria was trying to torch him. “I’ll get some fire-resistant potion to keep with me, if it’ll make you feel any better.” Fred suggested. That way Fred could keep living his life without constantly looking over his shoulder, and they’d both be happy.

@fred <3 Elias laughed. The way Fred spoke of his family made him want to get to know them all and meet them, though the only person he'd met so far had been Lily. At least, as far as he could remember. There were so many Weasley's, and so many new people he had come across since being at Hogwarts that they all kind of got jumbled together unless they were of large importance to him. "You should be your own person, Fred. Not that you'll die young, but trying so hard to be someone else doesn't sound very healthy." Elias smiled softly at him. He hoped he didn't offend him, but Elias was a truthful guy and said how he felt. "No, you haven't got to do that. She won't do it if I tell her not to."

Fred shrugged when Elias said that he ought to be his own person. “This isn’t going to make any sense, but I feel like the more I try to fight to be myself, the more like him I end up being.” It was strange, how fighting his fate just seemed to shackle him tighter to it. Fred wasn’t going to disagree that trying to be like someone else was unhealthy as anything, but he was still trying to figure out how to defy his destiny without it becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. Being with Elias had seemed like a good start, especially after the relevant that his dead uncle had been in love with his mother. Elias wasn’t anything like his mum, at least not that Fred could see. “Might do it anyways. Better safe than sorry.” If he had really pissed Maria off, he didn’t think that any amount of Elias’s begging could save him. Fred didn’t think he had done anything that bad, but it would be all sorts of irony if the one thing that he thought let him escape his fate – that was, Elias – was the reason why he died.

@fred <3 Elias smiled. "At least you'd still be yourself. Even if you end up being more like him, you'd be able to say you are your own person." He knew all too well what it was like to think you have to be someone else, or try to be someone you weren't to make others like you or not find you as scary. But when Maria came into his life, it didn't take Elias very long to realize that being who he was, was an amazing feeling. "Better safe than sorry, though trust me, she won't hurt you if I tell her not to." Elias smiled. Anyone who knew Maria knew how crazy she was, but Elias had an unusual amount of control over her. She'd do anything that he asked her to do, or not to do. While it seemed bad, it helped him in many ways. Maria was not one to be controlled, though with Elias it was all an exception.

Fred smiled a little at Elias. “I’m not really sure who myself is yet.” He admitted, though he still kept his smile on his face. School was supposed to be when people found themselves, but Fred had been so busy trying to keep up his act that he hadn’t really thought to think about what he liked. The only thing that he was sure of was that he liked jokes and the joke shop just as much as his father did, and his uncle would have if he was still alive. It was his passion, which was good, since he had kind of signed a life-long contract. Not literally, but it was kind of hard to walk away from the family business. “What about you, Elias?” Fred asked conversationally. “Who is the real Elias Greyback?” He grinned a little. That sounded like the kind of thing a gossip rag would ask him as Champion. But this was just Fred, asking Elias.
