Jamie couldn’t help but laugh when Anna said that Professor Constantine probably had more pity for her than belief in her potential. Jamie didn’t want Anna to think that she was laughing at her… but the Gryffindor’s tone was just funny, and the idea that a professor would pity a student was also kind of weird. “If you want help in Potions, it’s one of my better subjects.” Jamie offered, not sure whether or not she had already told Anna that. She knew that Anna was friends with Irina, so it was possible she already had a Potions tutor, but it was better to make sure, Jamie figured. Anna went on to say that she studied really hard in the subject, and Jamie nodded. She was good enough at all of the subjects that she was taken that hardcore studying wasn’t necessary, but she would believe that Anna was the sort of person who would devote herself to a subject (even if it was just out of stubbornness). Jamie picked up the bottle of red toenail polish and bent over so that she could reach Anna’s toes, painting in slow, smooth strokes. She had learned a thing or two from when she had painted her nails with Max.

Jamie laughed at Anna's comment and she smiled in return. Anna loved making people laugh, and since Jamie was already doing so much for her. After all, she did get Anna to take a break from all her studying, which in and of itself was not a simple thing to do. Jamie offered to he!p Anna in potions and the Gryffindor smiled and nodded, "I can use as much help as I can get, from everyone I can get it from," she answered fervently, but with a teasing tone. She assumed Jamie would understand that. If Jamie had free time and wanted to help, Anna would definitely accept it. Then Jamie started painting Anna's toes and she tried to hold still for the girl to make it easier. She watched as Jamie took her time and did a pretty good job. Anna gave her a wry smile, "I hope you don't expect your toes to look that good ... I don't have lots of experience with this," she admitted with a smile.

Jamie was slightly relieved that Anna hadn’t turned down her offer of help in Potions just because she had another tutor. “I can’t promise that I’ll be great, but I know a lot about some potions.” Jamie knew just about everything there was to know about Wolfsbane, and if she had taken another path in life, maybe she would have devoted herself to improving the potion so that werewolves never had to transform at all… but that hadn’t been what she’d chosen, Jamie reminded herself. She wasn’t going to regret her choice to go into Quidditch, because it made her happy, and she didn’t want to taint that happiness with anything. “Guess it’s a good thing you have me to practice on.” Jamie said with a smile. The great thing about being a witch was that she didn’t need to use stupid nail polish remover to get the polish off – there were spells for that. “My sister and I painted each other’s nails some this summer.” Jamie explained, to give some context to her own smooth, precise strokes.

Anna smiled when Jamie said that she wasn't great. "That's fine because I'm abysmal. Any help is good for me," she admitted simply. Really she was a little surprised that Jamie was offering to help her, since the two had never been particularly close with one another, but she definitely wasn't going to complain. Anna nodded when Jamie said it was a good thing that Anna could practice on her and Anna quite agreed. Even if she messed it up completely, she was sure Jamie would either let her restart or at least be able to remove it, which was a good thing in Anna's books. "I'm glad you won't judge me for it," Anna teased back, smiling when Jamie explained how she was doing so well. "Well then, I guess I should expect professional-looking toes by the time this is done," she answered with a laugh. "Are you almost done?" She asked, craning her head to get a better look.

Anna said that she was abysmal at potions, which made her worse than Jamie, even despite Jamie’s underconfidence, and the Hufflepuff smiled. “It’s a good thing you’re practicing, then.” She didn’t understand when people were unhappy with their skills in a subject and then didn’t even try to improve them. Failing once was not a recipe for failing forever, and it was just annoying when people complained and complained without ever making an effort to improve. “I was awful at it once, too.” Jamie promised Anna. Of course, she had been awful at painting her own nails, so it was slightly less embarrassing, but Jamie was still glad to be the dummy that Anna used to improve, in nail polish and potions both. “Yeah, almost.” Jamie responded with a smile when Anna inquired after her progress, though she didn’t comment on whether or not her work would be professional grade. “If I ever invent a spell, it will be one that lets you paint nails more quickly.” Jamie announced. The smell of nail polish made her head hurt and her stomach turn, so anything that would allow her to spend less time around wet nail polish would make her life much, much easier.

Anna gave a wry grin when Jamie said it was a good thing she practiced at potions. "I know. That's probably the only reason I try at all. I know that doing potions is important, I just can't wait until I don't have to do them for a professor ... I just might have to do them for work, depending on what I choose," she grimaced. Anna smiled when Jamie said she was bad at painting nails once too and then shrugged. "Well unless you and I have more girl nights, I probably won't get good at this either." Even if they did practice, Anna wasn't sure how good she'd get at it in the short time frame they had left. Anna smiled, "Let me know when you are done and we'll see how much damage I can do to your toes." She laughed softly. "I approve of that idea!" Anna said brightly, thinking that it would be helpful to people like her, that were too busy to paint their nails.

Anna said that one of the only reasons that she practiced at potions was because he might have to do them for work in the future, and Jamie made a sympathetic noise. Having chosen a profession as a Quidditch player sometimes made her wonder why she had bothered to keep going through school at all, but Jamie also knew that Quidditch wasn’t forever. In fact, that had been one of the main reasons she had considered not going into the sport professionally. Eventually, though, her passion for Quidditch had won out. “Some animals will let you paint their toenails.” Jamie advised. She had never actually practiced that, since owls weren’t known for their patience, but particularly mellow cats and dogs were good practice subjects, especially since they didn’t care how good of a job anyone did. “Or you can practice on your boyfriend!” Jamie suggested with a chuckle. Anna could also practice on herself, but what fun would that be? In any case, Jamie was more than willing to lend Anna polish bottles if she wanted to pursue the art of nails. “Ta-da!” Jamie said, scooting back from Anna so the other girl could see the finished product.

Jamie seemed to be sympathetic to the idea of Anna feeling like she had to do potions and Anna felt grateful. It was nice to have someone that seemed to understand - at least in part, though obviously not completely because Jamie did decently well when it came to potions. Then she started to laugh when Jamie said there were animals that might let her paint their toenails. The fact that they might let he didn't mean they would like it and Anna didn't really want to see how they would react to that. "I'm not sure I'm quite dedicated enough to want to practice that much," she told Jamie honestly. At Jamie's next suggestion, Anna started laughing harder. She couldn't imagine Oscar letting her paint his toenails (or fingernails for that matter) but the image in her mind was hilarious. No she wouldn't ask him to let her, but it would be hilarious. She smiled when Jamie let her look at her fingernails. "Ooh! They look great Jamie! Now it's your turn," Anna said with a smile. She was entirely positive her attempts wouldn't look that good but she was going to try. "You want to choose a color?" Anna asked, trying to convince herself that this wasn't going to be as bad as she imagined.

Jamie smiled at Anna when she gently rejected the idea of painting animal’s toenails. It had been more of a joke than anything, since Jamie had only ever tried painting her owl’s toenails once… And that had ended before it had begun, really. That was a story for a different time. The idea of painting her boyfriend’s nails garnered a bigger reaction, and ultimately a more positive one, since Anna was laughing as if Jamie had just told the best joke in all of history. Apparently Oscar wasn’t the kind of boy that liked having his nails painted… though honestly, from what Jamie had seen – and heard – of him, that made sense. Anna seemed pleased by the results of Jamie’s handiwork, and the Hufflepuff smiled. “You can choose the color – I’m not particularly fussed.” Jamie didn’t want to say it aloud, but with all Anna was saying about how poor her painting skills were, there was a high probability that Jamie was just going to end up taking the nail polish off the moment they left the bathroom, so the color wouldn’t matter. “We might have to cut out the face masks, though – combing hair always takes longer than I anticipate.” Jamie said with a slightly forlorn sigh at the thought of her poor time management skills.

Anna felt relaxed. Much more so than she expected when Jamie approached her and asked her to take a break from studying. It was interesting because she thought she wouldn't be able to forget about the tournament and all of the things going on with it, but she did. Now she was thinking of nails and her boyfriend and not even worried about what was coming. She smiled when Jamie said she could choose the color. "I think ... you need a cheerful color. Light blue or orange?" She said, pulling the bottles out and showing them to her friend. Then Jamie mentioned that they might not have time for the face masks and Anna shrugged. "That's fine. This has been amazing Jamie. Thanks for inviting me." Really though, Anna was grateful that Jamie invited her to come. She would've spent all that time studying and worrying otherwise.

Anna said that Jamie needed a cheerful color, and the Hufflepuff chuckled. She couldn't imagine herself having black nail polish. The Gryffindor girl asked if she wanted light blue or orange, and the choice was easy for the Hufflepuff. "Orange, please." She responded easily. Orange reminded her of Skittles and her brother and Harper. Even if she want with her ex-girlfriend, Jamie still had plenty of good memories with her, and it was nice to be reminded. Jamie was glad that Anna wasn't mad about the lack of face masks. She hadn't expected the other girl to be, but the validation was always nice. "Thanks for coming, Anna." Jamie responded with a smile. "It's been nice to spend time with you." It was a shame it was coming to an end.

Anna grinned when Jamie said that she wanted orange. "Alright, here you go!" she said, twisting the lid off and taking a breath before she started painting her friend's nails. It actually wasn't as hard as Anna thought, but she knew it didn't look fabulous. Then again, maybe it was just the face that she was looking close up. Maybe it looked all right from farther away. "Is this terrible?" she asked with a laugh as she took a few steps back and looked at her handi-work. It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't too bad either. She smiled at Jamie, "Thank you. I really did need a break from all that studying. This was fun." She was glad that the girl had the idea for her to get out of her studying rut. Jamie really did save her from that.

Anna did a great job with her nails. Jamie thought as she watched the other girl go through the motions. After all of Anna’s talk about not being good at it, Jamie was worried she was going to end up with lumpy, messy hands, but they were passable. Anna asked if it was terrible, and Jamie shook her head. “Definitely not terrible. But if you ever want to practice again, you’re welcome to use me as a test subject.” Jamie offered. Anna didn’t seem all that interested in practicing, but it was good to reiterate her willingness to help. “It was fun.” Jamie agreed as the pair of them got up from the floor. Jamie waved her wand, and the various items they had used bundled themselves into Jamie’s arms so that she could carry them back to the Hufflepuff common room. “I’ll see you later, Anna.” Jamie said before exiting the bathroom.
