Dominique seemed to have changed her mind about what kind of drawing that she wanted, which was just fine with Shay. There wasn’t much difference between drawing a real flower and a dried one, as long as you understood that a dried flower didn’t just mean a limp one. “Your w-wish is m-my c-command.” Séamus told Dominique. He’d probably end up drawing both for her anyways, and allow her to see if she agreed with him about the dead one looking more natural on parchment paper than the alive one. Dom said that he didn’t know all the things that she got into, and Shay shrugged. “F-fertilizer is m-made f-from m-manure. I th-think if I c-can b-be h-happy elbow d-deep in f-feces, I c-can h-handle any activity you d-do.” Shay said with a half-smile. He was tempted to ask what sort of things Dom got into that she thought Séamus would find disgusting, but he didn’t want to push, especially if he did end up finding one of them disgusting and that hurt Dom’s feelings.

Séamus agreed to draw a dried Iris for her and Dom offered him a smile. She didn't really understand why he was being so nice to her right now, but she liked to think that the two of them were becoming friends. And it was nice to be with a friend at the moment, with someone who could distract her from the things she didn't want to think about. She gave a short laugh when he explained that he liked to do a lot in dirt/manure. "Alright, I'm glad to know that you won't judge me for the messes I get myself into then," she told him lightly. It was always fun to spend your time with someone who just accepted who you were, no strings attached. She cocked her head to the side and looked at him curiously. "What were you doing in the entrance hall in the first place? Sorry if I pulled you away from studying or something," she apologized.

“I d-don’t l-like to j-judge, p-period.” Shay reminded Dom. He knew a thing or two about being judged for something that you couldn’t change (or you could change, but didn’t want to), and he never wanted to be someone that made anyone else feel like they had to change for him. Séamus was trying to encourage people to be better versions of themselves – that was what he was trying to do with Edmund, at least – but he wanted them to change because they wanted to, not because they thought that he had some sort of issue with who they were. When Dom asked why Shay had been in the entrance hall, the Slytherin averted his eyes. “I, ah…I w-was w-waiting f-for you to c-come b-back.” He admitted sheepishly. Séamus didn’t want to say that he had been worried about Dominique, because that didn’t seem like something that would be helpful in this situation, but he had been, hence the waiting. “B-but I w-was st-studying t-too.” He rushed to assure her, just so Dom didn’t think that she consumed his every waking hour or something ridiculous like that.

Dom smiled when Séamus said he didn't like to judge. "Well you're a better person than me then," she told him honestly. "I try, but most of the time I can't help it. Judging happens. I just try to let go of my original thoughts about people and let them prove themselves to me." Wow, that sounded bad now that she'd said it out loud. Dom looked over at Séamus, worried and hoping that he wouldn't be offended. That was the last thing she wanted to do. Then it was his turn to be embarrassed. "Well ..." Dom tried to think of what to say, but was having a hard time. She never thought that Séamus would be waiting for her in there. She was speechless. "Uhh ... well thanks for thinking of me. That's very ... sweet of you,"she told him with a big smile, hoping not to make him embarrassed. She smiled when he said he was studying too, but didn't comment on that one. "I'm glad someone was waiting for me," she told him in a soft voice. It was a lot better than coming and arriving all on your own.

Shay looked away from Dom when she said that he was a better person than her because he didn’t like to judge. “I’ve j-just b-been on the w-wrong end t-too m-much.” The Slytherin said honestly. Putting other people down was a lot less appealing when you yourself had been put down a million times. When Dom said that she liked to let go of her original thoughts and let people prove themselves, Séamus couldn’t help but wonder what her thoughts about him had been. He didn’t want to put her in an awkward position, though, and he didn’t want to volunteer himself to be insulted, so he kept his mouth shut. “I th-thought it w-would b-be l-less sc-scary th-that w-way.” Shay said in an attempt to explain his logic. It was always hard coming back to school after a break, but whenever Séamus did it, a ton of other kids were coming back, too, so he was less nervous about the situation. Having to come back after a week, all alone, sounded really sad. Considering that Dom had left in the first place because she had been sad, Shay figured that it made sense to have someone there, waiting for her, to make the whole transition easier. Apparently it had worked, too, since she said that she was glad to have someone there.

Dom frowned when Séamus said he was on the wrong side of judging too often. She understood, assuming that he probably got judged a lot for his stutter and felt bad for that. People could be ridiculous. "You shouldn't be." She hated the idea that people judged him, though she didn't really know why. "If it counts for anything, I thought you were really sweet the first time we met." Maybe not comfortable or wanting to answer questions, but still sweet. She nodded when he said he thought it would be less scary for her to return to Hogwarts if a friend was there waiting for her. "Thank you. I appreciate that," she told him. She took a deep breath. "But now I need to go back to my Common Room and see how much homework I have waiting for me. Thanks for everything Séamus," she reached forward and touched his arm, squeezing gently before turning and walking away. ---the end--- @seamus
