Jamie had just read her letter from her amorous connection for the day, which suggested that she not listen to piano pieces on recording. Now that she had the answer to that question, Jamie knew what songs she needed to request from the Room of Requirement, and also what she needed to ask of Brandon the next time they met for a violin lesson. Maybe she would make a trade of some sort - if she could play a violin song decently enough for him, he would play her the Chopin piece. That way it didn't seem like she was just using him, but rather like she was trying to find a way to improve herself at a quicker rate using rewards and the like. Of course, it could also backfire if Jamie's skill at the violin didn't measure up to what Brandon required, but she wasn't going to think about it.
Jamie was trying to make it seem like she wasn't rushing to the Room of Requirement, because she didn't tend to rush anywhere, and it would seem strange, especially if people wondered exactly what she was going to do in the room. Nevertheless, her footsteps were quicker than usual as she neared the room's entrance, looking around to see if there was anyone else around before she got around to actually entering it.

She was only a little tired today. She'd gotten up early today and had sat in the common room to get more studying done for her N.E.W.Ts today. When, slowly but surely, traffic began to fill the common room she stood, got ready and headed down to the Great Hall. Then the anticipation hit, the anticipation and hope that another one of her anonymous writer's letters would arrive. The letters. Those sweet, enticing, romantic letters. Going to breakfast hadn't disappointed her either. The owl had swooped down over the table and dropped the letter next to her. And just like that, reading the letter had those waves of emotion welling up inside of her that she didn't want to think too deeply about or put a name to just yet. It'd only been a week anyway. Much too soon.
She'd gone back to her common room and sent her reply a little while ago. She'd gotten some studying done already so, with nothing else to do, she'd decided today was the perfect day to go try out the Room of Requirement, as her anonymous writer had suggested, to listen to the music she'd suggested. It made sense; the room did conjure anything you required so she was sure the room could indulge such a simple request. That was where she was headed now, her footsteps a slow stroll down the corridor. She was little distracted, thinking about the letters, little things she'd said and couldn't stop the smile from breaking out. When she figured she was getting close, she looked up only to notice that someone else was standing in front of place where the door should appear. Normally, she'd just have to wait her turn. That would have been the more polite thing to do. But if she could convince whoever the person was to let her go first, she'd be able to get it done today and write about the music to her anonymous writer tomorrow. "Hey, would you mind terribly if I use the room first? I've got a terribly important task to complete today," she asked, putting a note of urgency in her tone. There was no lie in her words; she really did want to get it done today and it was something that was important to her.

Jamie had only been looking around for a few moments when she saw that she was not, in fact, alone. She half-wondered why she hadn’t heard anything before that moment, since people – especially people in heeled boots, like the ones the girl was wearing – normally ended up making noised when they walked. It seemed that the other girl – Slytherin, Liona Zabini, Jamie realized – wasn’t content just letting them be two ships passing in the night, though, because she also had an objective in mind…and it happened to be the same one as Jamie’s. The Hufflepuff’s knee-jerk reaction was to say that of course the other girl could use the room first, but then she realized how bad of an idea that was. For one thing, Jamie didn’t know how long the room would be occupied. She did have other things that she needed to do that day, and sitting around waiting for Liona to do whatever it was she was going to do didn’t seem like a productive way to spend her time. For another thing, Liona didn’t say what she was doing, which was automatically a little suspicious. What if she was meeting some boy in there, to do –? Ugh. Jamie didn’t want to think about her classmates having amorous connections in that sense. It wouldn’t exactly be polite to ask what the Slytherin girl was going to be doing, though, and from what rumors Jamie had heard about the Zabini girl, she was all about politeness and properness – and arrogance. She probably thought that she was entitled to the room more than anyone else was. After a silence that was probably too long, Jamie needed to respond. “Do you know how long you’ll be?” At least then she could make an informed decision. And if the Hufflepuff said no, who could blame her? She had been there first.

She stood there, eyeing he girl curiously. Upon closer inspection she realized that it was one of the Greyback girls from GSA. That was really the only time she came into close contact with her; of course she saw her around the Great Hall and had one or two classes with her but other than that she'd never had a full conversation with her. Her sister was in a younger year but was also a Slytherin so she'd seen her sister much more. She wasn't sure what the other girl was doing; she stood there for a long moment looking back at her but not answering her question. Liona tilted her head, brow furrowed in confusion. Was she okay? She was about to speak again but Greyback finally decided to speak up. "Do you know how long you'll be?" She wanted to shrug but she didn't. She wanted to listen to... what was it again? Fall Out Boy? What if she ended up liking it and wanted to listen to more of it? "I can't be certain but I will try to be quick. It is just really important that I get it done and I'm not sure of when I will be able to come back today, if at all." She had every intention of getting more studying done today so, again, her words were true. "If you don't have time to wait Ms. Greyback, you can come back a little later and I can make sure that you are the person who uses it after me..?" She gave a smile as she spoke. She really wished she could be in there already.

When Liona said that she didn’t know how long she was going to be, Jamie had to resist the urge to sigh or scoff. If something was so important, why didn’t the Slytherin know how long it was going to take? And then Liona was saying how if she didn’t have the time to wait, she could leave and come back later, and Jamie didn’t resist the impulse she had to roll her eyes. “You know as well as I do the walk up here from the basement isn’t a short one.” Honestly, Jamie was probably going to spend more time in transit to and from the Room of Requirement than she actually did inside the room. That was fine for one trip, but she wasn’t going to go back to the Hufflepuff common room and then walk back up to the fifth floor again. That was just silly. “Unlike you, I do know how long I’m going to take. Fifteen minutes, tops.” Anything that was so important that it couldn’t wait fifteen minutes could occur someplace else, couldn’t it? Besides, once she was inside the room, it wasn’t like Liona could do anything if Jamie decided not to come out for longer than fifteen minutes. She had all the time in the world. “And you can’t guarantee that I’ll be the person after you.” Jamie added. Like she had mentioned, the walk down to the dungeons and back up wasn’t a short one, and if Liona went to go fetch her, there was still a chance that someone else would come in the interim and occupy the room. No, Jamie much preferred certainty, and it really wasn’t going to take her that long to listen to two songs!

She almost snorted when she mentioned how long the walk to and from the Hufflepuff common room would be. Her rolling her eyes a long with it made the urge worse. With both of their common rooms being located in the Dungeons they'd had a bit of a walk to get here. There wasn't any way that she was walking away from there without getting into that room because it could be the last chance she had today. "Unlike you, I do know how long I'm going to take. Fifteen minutes, tops." She nodded at her words. Now she was going to have to give some sort of timeline and limit herself. "See, that's really good then. I won't be any more than an hour. Because you are only going to take 15 minutes, you can come back after I'm done, in an hour. I want to get it done now because this may be the only free time I get today because I'm studying for N.E.W.Ts. I only suggested you can leave because I don't know if you want to stand here for an hour..." She gave a raise of her eyebrow. An hour was plenty of time but there was always the possibility of her getting carried away and exploring more music. She planned on seeing the room could conjure an endless library of music. The room was pretty large.... "And as long as I'm in the room, no one else can come in right? So I can guarantee you get the room. Just return in an hour and the room will be yours. I'll even request a clock from the room to make sure that I'm keeping track of the time. I'll leave in a hour." She gave another nod and smile. Seriously. Just go away. She could use the room later. Whatever she had to do wasn't that important if it would only take fifteen minutes. Tops. She wouldn't say that to her of course.

Liona said that she wasn’t going to be any more than an hour in the room, and Jamie rolled her eyes again. Was that supposed to convince her to wait? “This might be the only free time I have today, too.” Jamie replied, her voice gaining a sort of edge to it. She was in just as many classes with Liona, if not more, in addition to being the captain of a Quidditch team and a club. “Your time is not any more important than mine just because you’re a pureblood, Liona.” Jamie sniffed, saying what she was sure the other girl was thinking so it was all out in the open. “And I’m not walking down five flights of stairs only to walk back up them again because you got to the Room of Requirement after me and then tried to sweet talk me into letting you go first.” Jamie was not going to let Liona forget that if she did let the Slytherin go first – and honestly, she probably wasn’t going to, not with the other girl’s attitude – it would be because the Hufflepuff was a nice person, not because Liona had any right to it. Because Jamie had gotten there first, damn it! “Or,” Jamie said, when Liona continued to ramble on about what Jamie was going to do when Liona was in the room, “You could wait out here for the next fifteen minutes and guarantee that you get the room without anyone having to do any clock-checking.” Anything that could be done in an hour could easily be done in forty-five minutes, if one was motivated enough. Jamie had done more than one homework assignment with limited time because she was driven to do it, and do it correctly. She didn’t know why Liona was making such a big deal out of this! Jamie obviously had the right of way and now they were both just wasting their time trying to fight about a fact.

Once again, Liona had to stop herself from showing her honest reactions to the words the girl spouted. She sincerely doubted that this was the only free time she would have today It was fifteen minutes. And the way she'd stared at her just a few minutes ago had already taken up some of the so called limited free time she had. It was then that the girl's voice took on a more hostile edge to it and at the mention of Liona's blood status, she couldn't hide her nostrils flaring and the raise of her eyebrow incredulously. "You're the only one mentioning blood here, Greyback, though I'm not really sure why." She kept her voice scarily steady as she spoke. Badger's got some bite, huh? She wanted to take the time to be amused by it, she probably would later, but she was very annoyed by the tone in her voice. "But you are certainly free to wait if that is what you would like. I, however, would like to utilize the room." Liona wasn't a blood purist anyway so she wasn't really sure where that came from. She couldn't afford to have that kind of thing taint her future. 'And yes, you were here before me but, again, I have to get done today." her tone was back to a light politeness though her words weren't. "If whatever it is you're trying to do here can be done in 15 minutes, it must not be that important and you can definitely come back some other time to use the room." She was doing a bit of assuming there wasn't she? Her anonymous writer would have probably commented on that. That thought renewed her unwillingness to leave. 'What are you trying to do in there anyway? Fifteen minutes is an awfully short time.." she eyed her curiously now. She didn't actually care. She'd say almost anything to get her to leave.

Jamie was really, really glad that she didn’t get angry easily, because otherwise she might have already been halfway to clawing Liona’s eyes out. She hated when people mentioned her blood status, even though she was the one who started it. Jamie was, in the eyes of some, tainted. Tainted by her father’s curse and her mother’s blood both, and that was infuriating! But Liona’s voice was steady, so Jamie wasn’t going to let hers waver. “I am using the room first.” Jamie declared. There wasn’t any more arguing to be done. As soon as she was sure that Liona wasn’t going to tackle her to the ground while she got the room to open, Jamie was going to begin the ritual to make the door appear. “Just because something doesn’t take that long doesn’t mean it’s not important!” Jamie huffed, her facing flushing slightly. She had developed feelings for her mystery writer in what was barely a full week, but that didn’t mean that her feelings were unimportant, and just because she only wanted to listen to a song or two didn’t mean that the listening was unimportant. It was stupid to make the correlation between time and gravitas. When Liona asked what she wanted to do in the room, though, Jamie balked. That was private, and personal. “I’ll tell you if you tell me.” The Hufflepuff finally challenged. If her suspicion that Liona was waiting for some boy to show up for a tryst was correct, then she didn’t think the Slytherin would want to fess up, and then Jamie could get off scot-free.

"I am using the room first." She almost swore but let out a deep breath instead to try and calm down. She wasn't angry, just annoyed. Seriously, this was taking too much of her time. "Isn't your lot supposed to be nice and hardworking, or whatever," She mumbled though she was sure the girl heard it. She rolled her eyes when she huffed out something about whatever it was she was doing being important. Again, doubtful. She wasn't really listening. It was then that she really got a look at her. She was flushed. She was oddly irritable. Wait.. was tonight a full moon or something? She tilted her head to the side and looked at her again. She was a werewolf after all. Maybe what she wanted to do in there had something to do with that. That was when she demanded that Liona tell her what she was going to do. "You know if you're looking for some Wolfsbane Potion or something, you can just go to the Hospital Wing." Liona was still openly scrutinizing her. Before she shrugged. "Either way, I'm starting a project and the things I need are things I'm hoping the Room of Requirement can provide me with. Not that it's any of your business." Again, technically true. She was going to make this a project. If she could get to know her anonymous writer through music, she would do so. She planned on exchanging music with her and asking about other bands and songs she liked every chance that she got.

Jamie took a deep, slow breath when Liona mumbled about ‘her lot’, which Jamie assumed to mean Hufflepuffs, given the context. She let it out, just as slowly as she had taken it in, so that she wouldn’t say something she regretted. “Patient, hard-working, and loyal.” Jamie replied. “Which is why I have not yet done anything that would get me detention even though you are frustrating me.” Never in Hufflepuff’s charter did it say anyone had to be nice – most people were, since it jived well with the other Hufflepuff qualities, but Jamie had met more than her fair share of snippy Hufflepuffs who were only in the house because they were willing to live and die for their friends, and their overwhelming loyalty landed them with the badgers.
When Liona mentioned the Wolfsbane Potion, Jamie let out a frustrated noise. “Do you ever look up when you’re in the Great Hall!?” Jamie asked. Anyone with two eyes and a brain could tell that the moon wasn’t anywhere near full at the moment, rendering the request about Wolfsbane moot. Jamie hated when people acted like they knew more about being a werewolf than she did. Reading about something in a book was different from living it, and Jamie definitely knew more about what it was like to manage lycanthropy than Liona did, Wolfsbane included. “If it’s a project, you can get your materials from the library.” Jamie replied. Hogwarts was well-stocked with many sorts of things, and if Liona needed something only the Room of Requirement could provide, then the project wasn’t for school, and therefore had no precedence over what Jamie wanted to do.

Her mouth twitched in amusement when Greyback proceeded to clarify the traits that Hufflepuffs were supposedly made of. Well, it was at least good that she knew it. "See, you were born with patience, you were born to wait. I can go into the room, get what I need to get, start my project and I'll be out in an hour, at most," she stated in the lightly polite tone she'd used before. She ignored the slight threat she spoke into existence afterwards. She didn't have it in her to try anything. Not because she was afraid of going to detention, Liona just wouldn't allow it. She could attempt though. She was definitely still annoyed but amusement was trying to win out now. Maybe because the more time the girl spent arguing with her the more time they were both wasting and if Liona wasn't going to get to use it first, she wasn't going to allow her to go in. Maybe she could annoy her to the point of leaving...
"I admit I do not know how being a werewolf works for you. You're rather irritable and you did mention blood earlier so I just assumed you were thirsty or something along those lines..." her voice trailed off and she shrugged once again. She even managed to keep her laugh in. It was her turn to let out a frustrated sound now at her instance that she go to the library. "If it was that easy, I wouldn't be here suffering through your stubbornness. Only the Room of Requirement will have the things that I need." With muggle technology not working in the castle, it was the only place she might be able to play a record. Even then she wasn't sure if this would work but she'd come to try. "So if it's not Wolfsbane related, what are you here for?"

Jamie was now making a mental list of all of the reasons why she was not allowed to punch Liona Zabini. So far the only reason was that it was against school rules, but really, who followed those anyways? And it would be Liona’s word against Jamie’s, and most of the Hogwarts staff liked her, right? It was a calculated risk that Jamie was beginning to consider taking, especially when Liona said that since Jamie was born patient, she ought to be the one to wait. “You’ve already used up all of my patience.” She ground out. “And since you’re not very good at patience, you obviously need to practice it. I’m going first.” Jamie very rarely argued about anything, so now that she was arguing, kind of, she wasn’t willing to back down, especially since all of Liona’s were stupid, at best.
“I’m irritable because you’re being irritating.” Normally that wasn’t enough to set Jamie off, but since Liona was being irritating and keeping Jamie from doing something important, she was doubly upset, and therefore doubly easy to annoy. When Lion insisted that only the Room of Requirement could give her what she needed, Jamie sighed. “Why won’t you understand that I need it just as much as you do!?” She exclaimed. Liona then inquired as to what Jamie was there for, and since she was feeling particularly spiteful, Jamie shook her head. “None of your business.” And since Liona had already told Jamie her purpose, the Slytherin had nothing to bargain with. Check.

Greyback was visibly irritated now. Liona wanted to laugh but she didn't and it was getting much harder not to now. "You honestly don't think I've been patient this entire time? You keep saying that you're going first but you haven't even gone in yet," she complained. "You're taking up too much time. Instead of arguing with me, there is a good possibility that I could have been in and out and you could have gone in. You're rather insistent on talking about going in first but you haven't even made a move to do so. If you'd like to step aside, I can go in and do what I need to do." with a roll of her eyes she shook her head at the Hufflepuff girl.
"You're honestly the only one who thinks so in this situation. If you're so annoyed you can leave and let me enter." She once again spoke in that polite voice but it was quite clearly fake now. She was doing it just to annoy her. How far could she push this Hufflepuff girl before she retaliated in a physical sense? If she hadn't been standing directly in front of the spot where the door would be, she would have already started the ritual just to see how she would react. Her outburst had Liona shaking her head then. "I doubt that," she drawled, clasping her hands together in front of her and tilting her head. She didn't want to reveal what she was doing there and Liona didn't really care then either though her secrecy made her a little more intrigued than she normally would be. Seriously what could she be doing for 15 minutes in there that didn't have anything to do with her werewolf thing. "We're going in circles now Ms. Greyback. Honestly. Whatever you have to do in your fifteen minute or less time limit, I'm sure, can be done at a later date. You don't need to be here now. I do. It's really as simple as that."

Liona said that she had been patient the entire time, too, which was laughable, considering she had been the one to start this whole argument about needing to go first in the first place. The Slytherin then pointed out that the Hufflepuff hadn’t even tried to enter the room yet, and Jamie’s face flushed. “Maybe I would go in if I wasn’t worried that you’d try to stop me as soon as I did!” She had to play into Slytherin stereotypes, but they were supposed to be sneaky and cunning, and if Jamie had one cunning bone in her body she knew that would be what she would do if she wanted to keep someone else from entering the room. “Stand back and put your hands up and maybe I’ll consider it.” Until then, Jamie was just fine continuing to waste Liona’s time, since it was obviously so important to her. Jamie would prefer to get started on her work as soon as possible, but she also knew she would be able to bounce back from an hour or two of lost time.
Once again, the other girl was being condescending and annoying. “Move back and I can stop using your precious time.” Jamie said sweetly. Her offer was already on the table, and as soon as Liona grew half a brain to realize that it would be smarter for Jamie to go first, Jamie could go in and listen to her music, and everything could be sorted. It didn’t need to be this complicated.
