Yadi was standing in line with his daughter Lucia waiting to play the Whack-A-Niffler game, which was clearly one of the most popular games at the carnival. He could understand why considering the game had been around for ages. He saw a bunch of people of a variety of ages standing in the line expectantly to play the game. He'd played it quite a few times since him and his daughter frequented amusement parks a lot. She was trying to stand on her toes to see if she could see over the crowd of people to see how much longer it would take before they got to the front of the line. He smiled and teased her. "Be patient love, we'll get there." He was honestly feeling a bit impatient himself though. It took a little while before she got to the front and played her game, winning a good amount of tickets and her excitement made him happy. When it was his turn, he stepped up, gave the carnie his tokens and waited until one of the toy nifflers popped up.

Royal was still hungry, but despite the myriad of different scents around him all promising different foods, he couldn't find a single food cart that was open. Someone told him that it was because carnivals didn't serve breakfast, but Royal thought that was a poor excuse; carnivals ought to serve all meals. If they were the happiest places on earth, then why wouldn't they let children overdose themselves on sugary foods for breakfast? It was a disappointment, and now Royal was angry in addition to being hungry. Luckily for him (and everyone around him), there was a solution to his anger problem: the Whack-a-Niffler game. There were two people ahead of him in line, but they both did poorly as far as the whacking went, making their games rather short (and from the amount of tickets they earned, unprofitable). Royal was eager to take his turn, and he spun the mallet around in his hand a few times while he waited for the machine to reset. When the Nifflers did begin to pop up again, Royal went ham, smashing any and every one that he could get his hands - er, mallet - on.

Adonia wasn't really into games of aim, so this one was kind of a good mix. The little niffler things would come at random, and she just had to try and be fast enough. It seemed more about reflexes than having a good aim. She stepped up, holding the mallet and cocked her head to the side as she waited for the game to start. Made just mad dashing and hitting all over at random would be the best approach... while she was contemplating, the game started and she nearly missed even starting! She starting whacking, trying to be smart about it at first but then giving up and just going as wild as she could, trying to get anything she possibly could! ADMIN DEE edit SUZIE

The question of the hour: how were nifflers all that different from moles? Jamie knew that the magical creatures had a penchant for gold, but since she had never actually seen a mole, nor had she felt particularly drawn to bribing one with gold coins, she hadn't a clue whether or not the two animals were synonymous. If she had taken Care of Magical Creatures, she probably would have known the answer to that, but since Jamie actively avoided any situation that would lead to her being called a creature, that class had been out of the question. That didn't stop her from enjoying the animal-themed game at the carnival, though. Jamie had been all to happy to take up the mallet, though she had to chuckle for a solid five seconds about how ti looked exactly like a Muggle arcade game. No doubt it had been, once upon a time, Jamie thought with a bit of a smirk. It wasn't that she distrusted the carnies, but it seemed to her like a carnival was a lot of work, and they were going to take as much help as they could get when it came to finding new games... including borrowing from Muggles.

It was strange, Imogen thought, how some things could pull your right back to childhood without even meaning to do it. The moment she had seen the Whack-A-Niffler, it was like she was thrown back to her sister's seventh birthday. Julia had always loved Muggle culture, and she had insisted that she wanted to go to an arcade for her seventh birthday. She was still too young to have much hand-eye coordination, so their parents had warned her that it was likely she wasn't going to win any prizes, but Julia had insisted that was definitely what she wanted to do. There had been a game like this in the arcade, and Imogen had spent all of her time there, because it was the only game she understood (and the only one she had any hope of winning, at the time). There had been tears that day, because, as predicted, Julia had won precious few tickets for her efforts, but Imogen still thought of the day fondly, and she was all too happy to play the game, despite her avoidance of all the other vaguely game-like things thus far. Engaging in a little childhood nostalgia, Imogen told herself, would be good for her and her road to recovery.

After Punt-A-Gnome, Georgie had been more confident about her ability to handle games that involved hitting inanimate objects. She still wasn't sure why the dementor had made her feel so ill - maybe it had been something to do with the fact that it reminded her of her worse fears, which had come true recently? - but that didn't matter, as long as she could try to enjoy the rest of her carnival experience. That involved playing games to her heart's content, and not eyeing them dubiously before she did so. When a man in a pinstripe suit asked her if she wanted to try Whack-a-Niffler, the Hufflepuff decided that she was going to do just that. It was kind of fun, actually, especially since the mallet was padded with some sort of foam thing (and probably a Cushioning Charm, too) and thus couldn't have actually hurt anyone or anything, even if that had been the intent, which meant Georgie didn't have to worry about that, even in the back of her head. She was glad to get out a bit more energy, too, since being cooped in the castle wasn't helping her mood much anyways.

Aras liked to think that his affinity for wands and magic, and his understanding of how both worked, gave him an edge in just about anything that could come up in Wizarding society. Wands and magic were, after all, what distinguished them from Muggles. That wasn't to say that Aras was big on blood purity or anything... just that he held magic in extremely high esteem. Which was why this blasted game was giving him such a headache. Aras hadn't paid much attention to Care of Magical Creatures when he had been in school, preferring to spend his time on Charms class, or, better, his own private studies of wandlore. As a result, he didn't have much of an affinity for animals, though his love for his dogs was... something. Better than he thought he was going to get when he was young, that much was for sure. Getting to bash fake animals over the head wasn't something he had ever thought he would like to do, but Aras had been excited to play the game. His excitement had quickly waned when he realized that his reflexes weren't as fast as he thought them. It made sense, considering that most of wand-making involved slow, steady movements and not lightning-quick response times, but it still frustrated Aras to no end that the little stuffed animals seemed to elude him.

There was something fascinating about being able to play both muggle games influenced by magical things, and brand new games unique to this carnival. The classic one that Scorpius had been hunting down, and had heard a lot about from muggleborn friends, was whack-a-mole. The few adolescent buddy movies that he had the chance to see over the years that had a carnival or an arcade always showed this game, and the Slytherin was intent on finding it. After wandering around for a while, playing a few different games to pass the time, he was at a loss. That was an essential, wasn't it? It was one of the last things he wanted to do, so that he could remember it the best.
Disappointed in his ability to spot the game, Scorpius headed for the exit of the carnival. He had to get back for dinner, and then do some last minute reading for class the next day. The boring stuff. Head down and kicking a sizable rock around, he happened to glance up just in time to see it. Whack-A-Niffler. This was it! Slightly different, though the concept was still the same as far as he could tell. Practically jumping to the stand in joy, he quickly snatched up the hammer, ready to play.
