Kinsey confirmed that you had to reconcile with your siblings most of the time, and Adonia nodded. She kind of wished she had a relationship like that. One that wasn't easy to break. Well, her and Maria kind of had that, but it was very different. "Well, I'm sure you'll all get along better once you mature a bit," she guessed. That happened often, she had heard.
Kinsey took the bat when Adonia was done, and Doni watched with a grin on her face. The girl seemed dedicated, which was good! Then, Kinsey turned back to her after mangling the pinata. "Hey, it's surprising how much you can get into something that stands in the way of your happiness. Fear does that," she explained with a shrug. "Want another go? Or should we collect our tickets and move on?"

Kinsey shrugged but didn't say anything when Adonia said things should get better once they were more mature. In all reality, she didn't ever see her and Cara getting along. The nice thing would be that when they were older, Kinsey wouldn't have to spend time with her older sister. She could avoid her all she wanted. Or she could give her a bit of a chance before avoiding her. At least then, Kinsey's options would be open.
Kinsey turned around, surprised by how pleased Adonia seemed to be by her attacking the pinata. She gave a small nod, not really wanting to think about her fears anymore. She was done thinking about them. She shook her head again when the girl asked if she wanted to do more. "No, I think I got it all out," she said with a small smile. "Where do you want to go next?" Kinsey asked after a second. Was this girl really going to spend all day with her?

Kinsey just shrugged at the talk of her sister, which led Adonia to believe the conversation was over. Then Kinsey said she didn't need another go at the Dementors, asking where Adonia wanted to go next... Adonia stroked her chin in thought, then looked up to see that Royal Shackelbolt walking by. She grinned. "I actually gotta catch up with someone," she leaned over and quickly kissed Kisney on the cheek. Kinsey would definitely feel some mischievous emotions from her then, but not necessarily evil ones. "I hope to see you again!" she said, skipping away.

And somehow, there she was.
Kinsey. He had only just been back and he hadn't seen her yet. He wondered if she knew he had come back, but he doubted it. His friends didn't even know until he surprised them. He saw Kinsey, playing some whack a dementor game with another girl -- who he would be interested in locating later -- but then the girl was kissing Kinsey on the cheek, saying goodbye, maybe? So, he moved in as the girl was waving her off, standing right behind Kinsey.
"Miss me, Kins?" he said, arms folded over his chest and head cocked to the side, waiting for her to turn around.

Adonia seemed to be considering quite seriously where the two should go next and Kinsey was quite content to let the other girl decide. She didn't know much about carnivals anyway. Then Adonia seemed to get distracted, grinning and saying she needed to go talk with someone else. Kinsey nodded and smiled at that, then froze, entirely surprised when she got a kiss on the cheek. Suddenly she sensed that Adonia's intentions changed. They weren't bad, per say, but where she'd only wanted fun before, now she seemed to be leaning towards sneaky and mischievous. Kinsey watched her as she skipped away happily, trying to figure out the girl with no success.
She was so focused on Adonia that she didn't even notice the familiarly dark intentions until she heard a voice greeting her from behind. Dom? No, it couldn't be. He left, way back in November. Even with that knowledge, her body tensed, which in and of itself was evidence that he was indeed back. Dominic Dippet was the only person she'd ever reacted to this way. Taking a deep breath, she turned around to face him. This had to stop. She couldn't keep taking his bullying, she wouldn't. The last few months were wonderful for her, for her peace of mind and she wasn't willing to let them go just because he came back. She needed to be confident. He stood there, his arms folded as he watched her, seeming curious with his head tilted to the side. Kinsey shook her head clearly, "No," she answered in a calm voice. She couldn't react to him. Not if she wanted him to stop. "I didn't know you came back," Kinsey added, proud of her tone of voice. There was no hint of her internal nerves and fear.

Her body tensed and she slowly turned around, and Dom just kept his arms folded and raised an eyebrow. She looked different. Confident. Prettier. Happier. She looked less sickly than he remembered, less on edge. Did he really have THAT much of an effect on her? There was no way... But if he did, he was glad for it. At least he knew he was affecting someone.
Still, he felt this sinking feeling in his stomach right now, not that it showed on his face. She reminded him of Alexander right now. When he went back in November, it was because Alexander was sick... But over the last five months his brother fought it off and came back stronger than ever. That was how Kinsey looked now. Like she had been sick... And now she wasn't.
She said no. Of course she didn't miss him, it wasn't necessarily a real question. Then she said she didn't know he came back. Even her voice sounded clearer. "Well, aren't you something special," he commented. "I'm surprised Cara didn't tell you," he feigned a casual chuckle. "And who was that?" he nodded in the direction the girl had walked away.

Her heart was racing at the fact that he was actually there in front of her. Dom. Why did he have to come back? She wished he could have stayed at home, or wherever it was that he spent his time for the last few months. Her life would have been much less complicated that way.
His arms were folded as he watched her as he always did, contemptuously, like he had complete control over her. No. Not anymore. Kinsey was determined to stand up to him this time, to break this pattern of torment. She ignored his jibe about her being special. Kins knew he didn't mean it, and if he did he only meant it as an insult. "Cara and I don't really talk, as you know," Kinsey returned, her voice strong as she glared at him. She would not let him see how nervous he made her, even when they were just talking in the open.
He asked about Adonia and Kinsey thought about not answering him, turning, and walking away, but there weren't very many people in this area of the carnival. If she tried to leave, she was sure he would stop her, and him touching her would make it harder for her to keep her composure. No, it was better for her to stay here. "Her name is Adonia," Kinsey answered after a moment. "She's from Durmstrang." She paused, not knowing what else she should say or do. Would he go after Adonia? Unlikely, but Kinsey was hoping

She reminded him that she and Cara didn't talk, and her voice was still strong. What had happened to her? He had been gone too long. His best victim, gone in a flash. No. He would get a rise out of her. Somehow. It didn't help being in such a crowded place... but even back in the day she'd still cower in public. Now she was like this strong, tall, wonder woman thing. What the hell.
She told him the girls name and he nodded. Durmstrang. Made sense. "Interesting," he said with a tilt of his head. "And what have you been up to since left, Kinsey? Same old sitting in corners by yourself and avoiding the land of the living? I bet you've made a few ghosts friends, haven't you?" he jeered. Something had to get to his little brat. Who did she think she was?

He didn't respond at all when she told him that she and Cara didn't talk, which made Kinsey a little nervous, but she wasn't going to show it. This might actually work and if it did ... school would change for her. He was still glaring at her, but Kinsey pretended like that didn't bother her. As long as the ... bad intentions he had for her. She couldn't tell what they were specifically, but that might mean he didn't know what he was planning on doing. Maybe that was a good sign.
He tilted the head, saying Adonia's name was interesting. Or maybe it was the fact that she was from Durmstrang. Huh. He didn't make any sense. Then his attention seemed to come back to her. He asked what she'd been up to, if she spent her time in corners avoiding people, making friends with the ghosts. A small part of Kinsey felt anxious for a second, but she squashed those feelings. No. She was done bowing down to him. She kept her expression impassive, shrugging a little. "I haven't been up to anything noteworthy," she said honestly. "Classes, homework, friends ..." with the added benefit of you not being around to ruin it all. No, she didn't say that, but she wanted to. Better to not provoke him.

She said she hadn't been up to anything, and he tensed, breathing in deeply though his nose. What was wrong with her? Why was she being so... boring? "Come on," he said finally, reaching out to wrap his arm tightly around her shoulders, "let's play a game together," he attempted to steer her away from their little chatting spot, not sure if he would succeed since apparently she was some kind of Gryffindor lion now.
Which remind him that an actually little Gryffindor owed him something... but he would deal with her later. He was dealing with Kinsey now, and she wasn't making it easy.

He wrapped his arm around her shoulders, telling her that they were going to play a game together and Kinsey fought to keep her tension hidden as her gift strengthened with his contact. Now that he was touching her she knew that he meant to do something bad. That was all her gift was telling her. Something bad, but she could also sense the anger rolling off of him. She did not want to go anywhere with him ... but trying to get away was something she would have done a few months ago. He would likely see that as a sign of her giving in and take even more charge over her. "What game do you have in mind?" she asked, going with him as if she actually wanted to. She stood tall and took firm steps, not letting him pull her around. Her stomach was rolling with apprehension, but she couldn't let him know that. She couldn't!

She came along, which was good, otherwise he would have just gotten more angry. She asked what game he had in mind.... but he was sure she was started to break. "How about we do the whack a niffler? I need to get some aggression out," he admitted, steering her toward same game. He gave the guy tokens for both of them and handed her a mallet. "You DO know how to hit something right? Ever done that before?" he was sure she had never hit anyONE, definitely not, but it might be entertaining if she proved she wasn't completely worthless... buta gain, he wasn't here for entertainment. He was here to get the reactions he always did, and that hadn't happened yet.

The longer he had his arm draped around her, the harder it was for Kinsey to stay calm. She didn't like his intentions and didn't like feeling them so strongly. It unnerved her, which was exactly what she did not want right now. She needed to stay cool. He said he wanted to whack a niffler to get aggression out and nodded. "Alright," she didn't say more because he was still touching her and she didn't want to give herself away. They arrived and he finally let her go, giving the guy tokens and handing her a mallet. Kinsey felt like she could breathe again! She almost smiled from the relief, but held it back. At his next questions she glared at him. "I'll do just fine, don't you worry," she answered sharply. She lifted the mallet as the game started, moving quickly as the game started. She had good reflexes, which was good for a game like this, but at the moment she was also angry ... which was good for her. Every whack was hard and made a resounding thud, her anger at Dominic manifest through her attack on the game. She wasn't overly aggressive, but definitely more that he expected. She hit 3/4 of the nifflers that appeared and didn't even bother looking to see what he did. She was going to try and get control now.

Why was she acting so cool about this!? He was talking about letting out AGGRESSION and she wasn't running scared? She took the mallet and then glared at him, saying she'd do just fine. What the hell? He stepped up beside her, raising his mallet as well. They both started whacking at them, but he was a little distracted that she was kind of being aggressive. He was hitting a lot, but not as many as she was because he was too busy watching her.
And, for some unknown reason, her strength made him furious.
He tossed the mallet back the worker when the game stopped and turned toward her, "okay, what the hell happened to you?"

He was beside her and while they played she could sense his bad intentions, rising in ... depth ... as they played the game. Kinsey wasn't sure why and she wanted to step away from him, but once again she refused to give herself away. She did not want to be the scared little girl anymore. She knew that if he really wanted he could find that girl and make her come out, but Kins was trying to make it so that didn't happen. The game ended and she looked at the results, surprised beyond belief when her score was higher than his. No wonder he was so angry. She fought to keep a small grin off her face, knowing that he wouldn't like the fact she did better than him.
He tossed the mallet, turning to face her with a look that made her sober immediately, a flash of fear hitting her in the stomach. She tried to keep her expression straight and not show him that. How long would she be able to hold out. She put the mallet down on the game, taking a breath before she looked up at him as demanded to know what happened to her. "You weren't around. I stopped being scared all the time," she answered simply. The truth was best right, even though she knew he would hate that answer. Still, they were at a game. He couldn't do anything to her here. They weren't alone.
