Hah. He saw that fear hit her. Little Kinsey was still in there... but her face braved up quickly. But now he guessed it was just an act now. Then she took a deep breath and answered him, saying he wasn't around and she stopped being scared. He gave a short nod and leaned in, bending down so that his face was equal height to hers. "Well. I'm back now, Kinsey. So, I hope you had your fun," his voice was low and threatening and his eyes intense. He wasn't ready to pull back yet, but there were people around. So, he straightened up and rolled his head on his shoulders for a moment to stretch out his neck.

He moved so their faces were level and Kinsey could sense that something changed. He still wasn't going to be nice to her, but ... he also didn't seem as angry as he had a moment before. He seemed ... triumphant. No, she wasn't ready for this. Did he see through her so quickly? His eyes burned into hers, but she couldn't look away. She wouldn't, not even when he said that he was back and he hoped she had fun. Her heart sank. He knew. Either he knew that she was still scared of him or he was determined to bring back her old feelings. She swallowed nervously, but didn't give in to the fear. She didn't want to be scared anymore. She clenched her jaw as she kept his gaze. "And if I'm not done? I'm not the same girl you left here, Dominic," she answered bravely. Hopefully it would start to convince him that she had changed. It was true, she changed while he was gone, but if he wanted to he could bring back her old fears, make her feel worthless again. She knew that.

Wait, what? Her words were... unbelievable. He chuckled, not showing at all that he was surprised by her. "I'll let you play warrior a little longer, Kins, because that only means you'll fall harder," he explained. In reality, that could be true or not true. She could really get stronger and braver, but it was also possible that the more she raised herself up the easier it would be for her to fall hard and be really broken. He decided it was worth taking that chance because, honestly, at the moment he wasn't sure what to do with this brave girl in front of him.
Planting some fear in her future, though, that was something he could do.

He laughed and the sound was more nerve-wracking than she remembered. How was he so bloody confident all the time? And why was he so determined to break her? She glared when he called her Kins. She'd never told him to stop before when he called her that, mostly because she knew he would do it more to annoy her, but it ate at her that he used the same nickname for her as her friends and family. He shouldn't be able to put himself on their level. His other words registered in her mind and Kinsey froze for a second. Fall harder? That meant ... it was all pointless. All of it because no matter what she did he wasn't going to give up. He wasn't ever going to leave her alone, and there was nothing she could do to stop that. "You're wrong," she said, but now there was a slight tremor in her voice. Hopefully he would mistake it for anger, since her expression was still angry, but she wasn't sure. Dom always had a way of getting to her, of knowing when he did.

Wrong. That was a mistake.
Her voice had changed, just slightly, and he let his lip curl up into a tiny, tiny half smile. "Oh, I must be mistaken," he said, his voice dropping in volume a little. "Car informed me that you've been up on a high horse, and she seems to think you'll fall hard. See, that's where I got the idea from," he was lying, of course. He lifted a hand to his face to casually survey his knuckles, "and I'm sure Diana would help you get back up, if only to prove how much prettier she is than you," he shrugged. He was using old material, sure, but he was just trying to make more cracks in her resolve.
He turned back to her, holding out his hand, he leaned forward a little again, and his voice dropped to a whisper, "come on. Why don't we go ask them about it ourselves?"

He noticed. Of course he did, but she could tell before he even said anything that he knew he had the upper hand now. His little smile told her that. He said he was mistaken and Kinsey knew he didn't mean it. The old feelings were rising now as his voice got softer and more dangerous. She almost took a step back, but resisted the urge. Then he mentioned Cara saying things about her, that she was getting arrogant and would fall soon. Kins could almost hear her sister saying the words and a sharp knot formed in her stomach, a familiar reaction to his words. She shook her head, trying to stop the inevitable thoughts from coming, to stop herself from sinking to the pit where Dominic kept her during school. No one else could make her doubt herself the way he did.
She pushed the thoughts away and shook her head fiercely, looking up at him to see him looking at his hands. Hopefully he couldn't see the internal struggle she was going through. Then Diana. At the mention of her other sister's name, Kinsey felt her resolve to be strong breaking entirely, though she fought hard not to show it. A year ago she wouldn't have believed his taunt about Diana thinking she was prettier, but then Diana started avoiding her. Her closest sister wouldn't so much as look at Kinsey anymore and just the thought of her made Kinsey doubt herself. If Diana didn't trust her or love her anymore, who would? Kinsey's hands balled into fists as she tried to force herself to stop thinking once more.
He held out a hand and Kinsey automatically took it without thinking, too focused on not letting him into her head. Then his intentions overwhelmed her and she realized what she'd done. She tried to pull her hand away instinctively, forgetting that it would show how much he really was getting to her. "No, I don't want to see them," she muttered, the tremor still in her voice. She was done for now.

He could see her shaking her head, but he pretended not to notice. There she was. There was that girl he had worked so hard to create over the years. The scared, pathetic thing that quivered at his presence. He tried not to internally celebrate just yet, not sure what she would do with his outstretched hand.
But then, she took it. She tried to pull away but he held on. She said she didn't want to see them, and he knew he had broken her. The question was, would he let her go free now -- a false sense of hope? Or keep this going just a little longer...
Just a little longer.
He pulled on her hand and started walking backwards, leading her with him. "Okay, okay, he won't," he said, voice still soft. "Instead maybe we'll just take a little walk. Your feet do work, don't they?" his voice got a little harsher again at the end.

He wouldn't let go of her hand. Of course not. Why in the world did she take it in the first place?! She always avoided physical contact as much as possible, especially with Dominic. When he wanted her to do something, he grabbed her and pulled her where he wanted. She'd never actually let him take her hand before. This was new and ... horrifying. One look up into his face and she knew she'd lost. He knew that it was all a sham, that she was still as terrified of him as she'd always been.
He pulled on her hand and started moving backward. To anyone observing it would probably look like two friends going on a walk together, but this was anything but. Kins tried to dig in her heels and not go, but when he pulled she stumbled forward. She felt minimal relief when he said that they weren't going to go see her sisters, but his intentions ... he wasn't trying to be nice. He was planning something worse. "I don't want to go on a walk," she said, ignoring his question as his voice grew crueler. This was more the Dom she knew. The prolonged contact with him was making her feel sick inside and she started to tremble because of it. He would think she was scared- which was true- but fear wasn't the cause of her shaking. "Please let me go," Kinsey whispered, finally giving in completely. By asking to be released, she was showing that she knew he was in control and he would know that.

Oh. OH. She was pleading now, in a whisper. She didn't want to go on a walk, eh? Okay, okay. He had proved he could break her again, and now he needed to give her that false sense of security to torment her better next time. She was trembling, he noticed, which meant he had taken at far as was necessary for the moment. She knew he was in control, and she proved that by asking to be released.
He held on for just a beat longer before slowly releasing her hand and bringing his own hand back to his side. "You're free to go. Go on," he nodded harshly, gesturing for her to get out of there. "Quickly," he demanded/threatened.

Kinsey couldn't bring herself to look at him. She was sure he was smirking or looking at her with that superior air and she just couldn't handle it. Why did she give in? Why did she let him get to her like she always did? If she was stronger, maybe he would actually leave her alone, but she wasn't, as he reminded her by speaking about her sisters. She wasn't strong like Cara and Diana, who he got along so well with. She wasn't sure if that was because he truly respected them or if that was to show Kinsey how inferior she was. It worked. At her plea, he didn't release her hand and Kinsey grew more worried. What was he going to do? Then she felt his fingers slowly loosen around hers. As soon as she could, she pulled her hand back, looking up at him to see what he was going to do. He nodded for her to leave and Kinsey started walking away. Then, when he told her to move more quickly, she ran. She ran all the way back to the castle, where she went to her favorite hiding spot, the only one where he'd never found her yet. Once she was there, she curled up into a ball and started to cry. Dominic was back. --- the end --- @dominic
