Jessie wasn't usually one to break the rules. But if she were, she took calculated risks, making sure to consider the rewards if she were successful. Sneaking into the kitchens late at night, once or twice a week, was a risk well-worth taking. All the food she could want, all to herself. Her routine on these nights was consistent. Wait until the snores of her fellow dormies became loud enough to cover the sound of her feet pattering across the floor. Carefully slip out of the portrait hole, taking care not to awake the slumbering lady. And continue to tiptoe all the way to the pear that resided close to the 'Puffs, before tickling it and entering the kitchen. That was exactly what she had done tonight. When Jessie had entered, swarms of house-elves flurried to her side, eager to please. To one particular elf's much pleasure, Jessie spoke to her directly. She thought her name was 'Dotty'. "If it's not too hard to whip up, I'll take a slice of pecan pie. It's an American dish, but I'll be incredibly grateful if you can find one." As the keen elf zipped away, Jessie hopped up to sit on a nearby counter. Many more house elves asked her what she wanted, and she continued to relay that she only craved the pecan pie. The little lioness often wondered if it was wrong to take advantage of the house elves natural instincts. But she decided that it was worse to deny them the opportunity to please. Eventually Dotty returned with her treat in hand. "Oh thank you, Dotty. I'm forever thankful," she deemed, grinning ear to ear. And so Jessie sat and ate, watching the house elves bustle about the kitchen, a small smile planted on her lips. notes:

During the time between getting their Hogwarts letter and getting in the train to go to school for the first time, Sav's father taught him and his twin brother some very important lessons about the castle. One of the first and most important lessons was how to access the kitchens. The kitchens were located in the basement and in order to access them, one needed to find the painting of the pear and tickle it. The first time he tried it he felt absolutely ridiculous. However, he had been doing it now regularly for 6 years and found it perfectly normal. Sav was a growing boy who lived a very active life. Needless to say, he could eat. And he liked to eat. So that night he crawled out of bed early into the morning and made his way down from the Gryffindor Tower to the kitchens.
He ticked the pear on the painting and entered the kitchens, still wearing his pajamas; a simple white t shirt with blue plaid pajama pants. The elves greeted him like they did every time, and being a taller man, their heads barely met his hip. "Hey Scout." he greeted his favorite house elf, the first one he had met and the one who was the friendliest to him. "How about a hamburger?" he asked. "With one of those huge pickles on the side?" he high-fived another elf before turning and seeing another human sitting in the room. "Oh. Hello." He smirked. "Sorry, Jess, I didn't see you there." he felt a little embarrassed, especially since it was someone whom he knew, someone in his house and his year.

Jessie gave a small start when the entrance of the kitchens swung open, and a new figure emerged. His dark, athletic features instantly gave his identity away. Sav MacMillian. In his pajamas. What a sight. They were in the same year, and house. Talks had been had before. Nothing intimate. But she never failed to praise his talent in quidditch after a game. Her cheeks flushed pink, realizing that she too was in her pajamas. Jessie had stopped eating once he entered. A teeny tiny amount of embarrassment coursed through her, as she went unnoticed for a moment or two, until Sav took notice of her. "H-hey Sav. Erm, sorry for my appearance," she began, gesturing down to her attire. Of course, she probably just drew more attention to herself by doing that. "I didn't expect to see anyone down here. I totally would have put clothes on. Wait, I mean, I would have put acceptable clothes on. Because technically PJs are clothes. You're wearing them as well, though, I noticed," the young girl babbled. Eyes looking down at the ground, she swallowed. Chagrin overtook her, and her cheeks now burned red instead of the pink they had bore earlier. Sav was a remarkably attractive young man. And Jessie was completely got off guard. No composure to speak of. Give her the upperhand, she might have been able to act normally, maybe even flirt like an actual teenage girl. Eyes still cast downward, she took another bite of her pie, physically making it impossible for her to speak anymore for the time being. Sorry that I forgot to reply this morning!

Sav hadn't even bothered to think that he was in his pajamas until she pointed it out, however, he did get a little more self cautious about it when she did. And the fact that she was also in her pajamas helped a little, he wasn't the only one with terrible social manners for a time when he wasn't planning on being particularly social. "Don't worry about it." he said while pulling on the bottom of his pajama top, "it's fine. It happens to the best of us." he gave a laugh. He didn't know Jess particularly well, however, they had been in class together for 6 years and they had their fair share of conversations and partnered assignments over the years. She was a nice girl and he knew that he just caught her in a vulnerable position, it was normal to be embarrassed or caught off guard. "I don't normally see anyone else down here. I'm guessing neither do you." he said and walked over to where she was sitting. "Mind if I join you since I'm already here?" he asked. He took a seat and before too long his food was bring brought out. "Thanks this looks great." he told the elf before taking a juicy bite into the burger. "Sorry." he said once he swallowed. "It's hard to eat these cleanly." he wiped his mouth politely with a napkin and then asked in a sort of teasing manner, "So, do you come here often?" with a smirk before taking another bite into his burger.

If anyone could look good eating a burger, it was Sav. Jessie didn't even know why he was apologizing. She rolled her eyes in a good natured manner and let out a laugh. "No, Sav. I'm going to kick you out of the kitchens because I don't want to eat with you," she teased, shooting him a grin. "Yes, of course you can join me." Merlin, she thought to herself, there he goes with that smirk again. Quickly engulfed by his charms, Jessie nodded eagerly. "Yes, actually. Once or twice a week. It's surprising that we haven't run into each other yet." Dotty still fluttered around her, and this time, Jessie took her up on her offer to get her something else. "I'll take a glass of water, actually, if you don't mind Dotty." After saying this to the small elf, Dotty babbled out that it was 'an honor to serve her'. Jessie giggled to herself, momentarily forgetting about the boy next to her. "So how is quidditch this year? Team chemistry alright?" she asked, prodding at his own interest.x

Sav smirked when she began to tease him also, insisting that he was going to throw him out. A part of him would love to see her try. It was true, she could use magic. But he still had, what, like 11 inches on her? She was a fairly small girl and he was aiming to be a professional beater, so he hadn't been considered small since he was about 11. "So what did you have there?" he asked nodding down to the plate sat in front of her. "I was wondering what smelled so good when I walked in." he admitted.
Sav smiled watching her interact with the house elf. The way that one interacted with an inferior or a house elf really said a lot about a persons character. Sav considered the elves as his friends. They were fun to hang out with and always offered up great conversation on nights when he would sneak to the kitchens all alone. However, he had to admit, it was nice to have someone a little more interesting to talk to. He took another bite as she asked about Quidditch and swallowed before replying. "Well, you know Quidditch isn't really happening this year so we can focus on the Tournament. Which kind of blows because I'm just really bored." he admitted. "The team seems to be holding it together well, though. But I feel bad for the 7th years who are missing out on their last year of playing here. But we've had a few opportunities to play around and scrimmage with the other houses. Next year however, you better watch out for me. Gryffindor will be definitely be taking the cup." he smirked, confidently. "You'd better not miss a game." he insisted with a wink.

As he asked about her treat, she glanced down. "Oh, it's Pecan pie," she relayed, her American accent prominent. "It's from the south. States like Tennessee, where I'm from. Georgia has it as well. And a good few others." In truth, she missed the culture from home. But she loved where she was now. Jessie listened closely to what he was saying, nodding occasionally. "At least you're able to get some playing time in. Without it, you might be rubbish next season," she played, casting him a shy smile. "Every single game?" She feigned a thoughtful look, almost as if she had some inner turmoil about attending the matches. "Maybe.. I think I ought to have better persuasion than that," she admitted, emboldened by his playful nature. As she spoke, she leaned forward a little, pushing her now empty plate to the side. x

Sav nodded when she explained her dish to him. "I always forget you're American." he admitted. he wasn't sure why, perhaps because she mostly just assumed that everyone here was from the UK, but he knew that families moved around there were plenty of transfer students. But since Jess had had always attended school with him, he just thought of her as a local; home grown.
When she insinuated that if he didn't get any practice then he might be rubbish next season, he snickered. "Yeah right." Sav was infamous for being a little full of himself. He knew he was talented and he had the charisma to go along with it. Sav ran miles everyday, for fun. He kept up on his fitness and worked on his technique when he had free time. "You've got to come to every game because you might meet a tall, dark and handsome Quidditch player, and if you miss a game you might miss your chance." he smirked. He began to wonder how he had never noticed how pretty her eyes were before now. Maybe it was the firelight, maybe it was the casual atmosphere, maybe he was just half asleep and dreaming the whole thing, but she was pretty. And he had taken note.

Her face flushed a soft pink. Was this really happening? Was Sav actually flirting with her? Madison would throw a fit. She cleared her throat, doing her best not to let her courage slip away from her. "Oh? And what if this tall, dark, and handsome Quidditch player's chance is right now? If he seized that chance, maybe that would ensure that I come to every game," she teased, with more truth in her words than she dared to admit. A soft breath left her, as she took in the appearance of his overall body. His face, was expertly carved, with pinks lips that sheathed beautiful white teeth. His arms were swollen from years of training. No doubt his stomach was toned as well, letting her eyes gaze down a bit. Her eyes met his once more, and she grinned at him. Yes, she had just thoroughly check him out. But she bore no visible shame. For some reason, she was feeling on top of the world. Never had she flirted so smoothly. Never had she been able to maintain this level of calm in this sort of situation. "I mean, you must admit. The thought of having me there in the bleachers, with your name on the back of a fan jersey that I wore. Makes you swoon a bit doesn't it?"x

Sav couldn't help but smile at the girls response, she was making it so easy for him. Which was good, as much as he liked casual flirting, he didn't much care for those girls who played hard-to-get. While he sometimes did see flirting as a game, he never saw relationships as one and he wasn't really willing to play those petty games, not for the real thing. A girl who liked mind games wasn't a girl who Sav ever saw himself with. Wit was a different story, as was teasing and sarcasm, of course, he meant the true mind games, not interesting conversation as was happening now in front of him. "Something tells me that the Tall, Dark and, well, exquisitely handsome Quidditch player is just getting started." he winked.
I mean, you must admit. The thought of having me there in the bleachers, with your name on the back of a fan jersey that I wore. Makes you swoon a bit doesn't it?, Sav gave an audible laugh, not laughing at her, though he could see how it could be see that way, but rather laughing at her boldness. He liked it. He found it so very intriguing. She was a challenge, she wasn't cookie cutter, she was a bit cocky, quite similar to how he was. "Maybe we can start with something a little more casual." he insisted. "What are you doing Saturday?" he raised his eyebrows in wait of her response.

Jessie scoffed when Sav called himself exquisitely beautiful. "Careful now, pride goes before a fall." However, she had to admit, his nature was very appealing. He was confident, and so sure of what to say. Which, until now, didn't happen very often to the little lion. This was the first time in a while that she had been self-assured. Shock coursed through her, and it felt as if a cold bucket of water had hit her. Jessie's eyes widened, as if she was just realizing what was transpiring. "Ar-are you asking me on.. a date?" she asked, searching his eyes to see if he had some hidden meaning behind asking. Her cool poise was quickly diminishing. "Oh Merlin, you're really asking me out?" When it left her mouth, she realized what it had sounded like. "Oh! I mean it's not a bad thing, I just... Merlin I'm so bad at this." Running a hand over one of her braids, Jessie took a deep breath. She exhaled, and turned to look back at him, "It's just that I've never been asked out. So I don't quite know how this type of thing goes. So if you really asked me out just now.. I'll go. In fact, I loved to. Merlin knows I'd be one of the luckiest girls at Hogwarts. But if that wasn't want you meant, I totally just humiliated myself," she let out, in a rush of words. The exortion from talking so fast reddened her cheeks. Her whole face burned at this point, as she bit her lip and looked away. Ahhh! Feels

Sav smiled and happily listened to her go on and on. Probably a little nervous tick. He hadn't meant to make her nervous. But he was a little amused by it. He found it kind of cute, and very flattering. He knew he had always been good with words, and he definitely knew his way around flirting, but asking girls out wasn't something he did regularly. He had only dated two women seriously in his lifetime, though he was on 16 years old. He had gone on causal dates with a handful of girls, but mostly to be polite. He never wanted to hurt anyone's feelings.
"Yes, Jess, I was really asking you out." he told her with a soft, genuine smile. "We've got something really good going here, I thought there was a connection at least, and based on your response I guess you feel the same." he let his smile turn up into a bit of a smirk. "So you know there's that Carnival going on in Hogsmead... go with me on Saturday. Let me win you a stuffed giant squid or something." he laughed and sat back in his chair, taking on a more casual position after having finished his burger.

Her tense body visibly relaxed, "Oh thank Merlin. That would have been mortifying if it ended differently. Yes, I'll go to the carnival with you. But who knows? I might win more games than you do," she teased, with a weary smile. As the shock of being asked out was wearing off, she began to grow tired. Not that she wasn't excited, Merlin knows she was ecstatic. But she was starting to get used to the idea that maybe she was good enough to date someone like Sav. Hopefully she didn't disappoint him. To be quite honest, her stomach still did somersaults occasionally as he spoke to her. It was almost like she was dreaming. Ugh, I hope this isn't a dream. It would be a harsh reality to wake up to. And at this point in the night, her lips held no filter. Jessie rubbed her eyes, but met his once more. "Thanks for not getting totally weirded out during my mini freak out. I have a tendency to start talking and never stop. And you're bloody hot. It doesn't help things." x

Sav was feeling fairly on top of the world even though most of his world was still asleep. Hell, he'd accomplished more before the sun came up than he thought he would during all of the day to come. Studying wouldn't be the same after a night like this, he wasn't sure how he'd be able to focus. Forget studying tomorrow, how was he going to get back to sleep tonight? He wasn't. he was likely going to lay in bed and replay the situation over again until Hugo woke up and he could tell his friend.
"Then it's a date." he confirmed. "I'll be you there at noon-ish." he added. "I'll listen to you freak out anytime. Though, hopefully I can do something to help. I didn't mean to make you feel flustered." He admitted. "Though it was really cute." he could see her growing tired and he was as well. "Why do I walk you back to the common room?" he offered, standing up and offering his hand to her. "A gentleman never lets a lady walk alone at night." he insisted.
Sav's last post, I'll let you wrap it up and we can move onto first date thread @jessie

Jessie smiled up at him, "It's a date." Once again, she was caught off guard when he offered his hand to her. Nonetheless, she accepted, her heart beating a little faster. "I'll be honest with you, I'm thankful to have someone to walk with. But you better not get me caught, then I'll have to cancel our date," she winked at him. And for the first time in a long time, Jessie felt a surge of hope in her heart. A hope for more happiness than there was sadness. But better yet, her friends would not believe what she had to say come morning. x
