Hugo was in the Common Room, waiting for one of his close friends to show up. CJ. They'd been close all throughout school and he was looking for someone to have an adventure with. Hugo wasn't exactly sure what he wanted to do, but it was a Friday night and he didn't want to spend it in the Common Room. Maybe a jaunt around the grounds or sneaking through the corridors after curfew. Really, he couldn't think of anything specific, but he knew that with CJ, the two of them could probably come up with something. The only problem was finding her. He figured she'd probably come here to drop her bags or something, so he sat on a chair right inside, pretending to read a book while he really just waited for her to show up. When would she get here?

CJ rolled her shoulders absently, shifting her messenger bag from one side to the other as she ascended the stairs. She'd just had an intense sparring session and it had served to completely mellow her out. Her muscles were used to such strain, so they only twinged slightly as she walked, a small enough discomfort that the Seeker totally overlooked it.
All in all, a productive session.
Still, the Seeker was more than ready to find one of her friends and get up to some fun. Instead of leaving her drained and tired, sparring always left her buzzing with energy and craving release, and CJ was sure she could find someone who'd be up for a little mischief making.
"Evening, Madam," she gave a bow and a little smile as she saw the Fat Lady, before giving her the password. CJ tended to go out of her way to be friendly to the paintings; more than once, they'd covered for her when she'd been out after curfew and who better to play to than the woman who'd give her access to her own dorms?
Never let it be said that CJ De Luca didn't know how to charm the pants off anything. Figuratively speaking, of course.
She was already slipping her bag off her shoulder when she caught sight of one of her really good friends sitting around reading.
Grinning brightly, she threw herself on to the chair next to him. "Hugh! What's up, buttercup? You're looking awfully too innocent not to be up to something."

How long was this going to take?! Honestly, CJ should have been back here ages ago, but she wasn't and now Hugo was stuck, pretending to read a book. Maybe she got back before him and was in her dorm. Well if that was the case, he couldn't go get her ... and he didn't want to alert anyone to his plans of sneaking out, so he wasn't going to ask anyone to search for her either. He'd just have to wait and hope she showed.
So as he pretended to read the book, Hugo was focused on where his friend could possibly be and what they were going to do when she arrived. He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't notice when someone walked into the common room. At least, he didn't notice until they plopped down in the chair next to him. Hugo jumped and then turned to look. "CJ! I've been waiting ages for you, where were you?" He demanded, giving her a faux glare. She'd know better than to take him seriously. Then her question registered and a sly smile crossed his face. "Let's sneak out tonight, do something. What do you want to do? I'm down for anything?" Hopefully she was in the same kind of mood as he was, or Hugo was definitely going to be disappointed tonight.

"Oh, you know, gracing the less fortunate houses with my charming presence." CJ waved a hand airily when her friend demanded to know where she'd been. She grinned back at him, not bothering with remorse since she could easily tell he was kidding. Nevertheless... "Deepest apologies, my mischief making mate," she held her hand to her heart in perfect mock seriousness, brown eyes sparkling with mirth. She tapped the book he was holding before adding with a laugh, "Really though, Hugh, next time you pretend to read, at least hold the book the right side up."
The Seeker spared a moment to smile fondly at her friend. CJ really adored Hugo and his constantly happy attitude, it was the kind of thing that made the Gryffindor tower so much brighter, and a much more fun place. Besides, he was also such a good friend, and CJ could easily admit that at times like these, when he waited up for her to invariably get into some trouble with him, that she counted lucky stars for the day that they'd become friends. Her life was brighter with the big goofball in it, and he would have her unwavering loyalty forever.
Snapping out of her moment of seriousness, CJ laughed at the sly smile that spread across her friend's face. "You even have to ask?" She sent him a mischievous grin of her own. "D'you have anything or mind, or shall we get creative?" she asked, her mind already whirring with ideas as she shifted to the edge of her seat, turning to face her friend. She was so glad she just got back from her sparring; her all-black yoga clothes would probably be much easier to maneuver in, for whatever they ended up doing tonight.

Hugo rolled his eyes at his friend at her response to where she'd been. "Yeah, yeah, gracing them with your presence. I've heard that before," he teased. That was one of the most vague answers she could have given and he was positive that she did so on purpose. Then she apologized before teasing him about his book being upside-down. He shrugged, "Why worry about that? You're the only one who noticed. Everyone else thought I was being quite studious over here," he told her, smirking. Anyone that really knew him knew that he wouldn't stay up this late just to do homework. Late nights were for fun, not work, in his opinion.
She laughed at his question and Hugo shrugged. "I didn't know if you'd be tired after all your exhausted effort with the other houses," he retorted, a small smile taking over. Then he lifted an eyebrow at her. "It's your turn to think of something for us to do," he said reasonably. He couldn't remember if it actually was or not, but he didn't want to think of something for them to do, so he was going to say it was her turn. "Get as creative as you want, CJ," he encouraged, excited about whatever they'd end up doing.

"Just because you don't appreciate my charming brilliance and sunny smile," CJ shot back jokingly, sniffing imperiously. She knew that Hugh wasn't blind to the generic answer she'd given, but she loved her friend all the more for the fact that he never really pushed her to tell. It didn't matter to him; they were friends regardless.
The Seeker snorted unapologetically at the idea of her friend being studious, rolling her eyes. "I weep for the naivete of our fellow students," she deadpanned, only her sparkling eyes giving an indication of her mirth.
"Touche," she grinned, when he countered back at her about her efforts with the other houses. Their banter was such a big part of why she always had fun in his company. "Is it?" CJ hummed, pursing her lips as she thought about what kind of mischief they could get up to that night. "I feel like we've neglected the grounds since the tournament started," she declared after a moment of thought. "What do you think about a little nighttime expedition?"

Hugo lifted an eyebrow at his friend's teasing. "And who says I don't appreciate it?" he asked right back. He definitely wasn't going to let her have the last word about something this silly. He wanted to have fun with her and just mess around like they often did. The teasing was just a part of the game.
She snorted and Hugo couldn't help but laugh in return. "Why weep when you can take advantage?" he asked with a wink. "You might want to try it yourself sometime," Hugo suggested, a smirk covering his face.
CJ asked if it was really her turn to decide what they did, but Hugo could tell that she wasn't talking to him. She was asking herself and so he waited. CJ was good at coming up with things to do. He enjoyed doing the things she suggested because they always had lots of fun with one another. She suggested something outside and Hugo grinned. "Sounds great to me! You ready to head out now or do you need to get something?" Of course he was ready. He'd been waiting for her for hours.

"Duly noted," she laughed as Hugh countered, about how she knew if he hadn't appreciated her. "I gotta say though, mate, there are far smoother ways to confess your undying love for me," she added in a completely serious tone, before grinning mischievously at her friend.
She nodded, as if to concede to his point about taking advantage instead of weeping at their friends' naivete, but shook her head with a laugh when Hugh suggested she try the same. "Not gonna happen, darling child, I am not keen on depriving people of my awe inspiring presence."
She talked a big game, but CJ trusted Hugo to see through the smoke. It wasn't that she was insecure either; just not particularly invested in looks. She dressed well because she took herself seriously, same reason for taking care of her body, but at the same time, arrogance was her favourite cover-up to the fact that she saw herself as something in spite of her looks, rather than because of them.
"Nah, mate," she shook her head in the negative, setting her bag carelessly on the couch and stashing her wand up her sleeve. "I wouldn't dare to make you wait a second longer," she teased.

Hugo shrugged when CJ teased him about there being smoother ways for him to confess his love for her. "You know me, CJ. I like to be unconventional." That was certainly true. "I've been waiting for you to confess it to me first," he teased. It was easy to have fun and mess around with CJ. It's what they always did, after all.
She was teasing him again and Hugo rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah you're so inspiring. Hey, you're always busy inspiring everyone else. How come you don't ever put on your inspiring face here in the Gryffindor common room?" He was still messing around with her, of course. He loved the fact that CJ was so confident in everything she did and said and was. She was great.
He smiled wryly when she said that she wouldn't dare to make him wait a second longer. "Great, then let's blow this popsicle stand," he muttered loudly enough for only her. Then he looked around and slid through the portrait hole. It wasn't past curfew yet, so they just had to get far enough that no one would notice and stop them before they got where they wanted to. "So how have you been doing lately, my friend?" He asked casually as they strolled down the corridors. This was the easy part. The hard part was getting back after hours.

"Of course," she nodded, an entirely serious expression on her face that she just knew Hugh would see right through. "Your unconventionality is exactly why you're one of my best mates." Despite the grin she cracked at the other Gryffindor, it was easy for anyone to see that she was speaking one hundred percent truthfully. The two were thick as thieves; literally.
At his added comment about waiting for her to confess first, CJ immediately adopted a heartfelt expression. Kicking off her shoes, she jumped on to the couch to get level with her tall friend. "Oh, my dearest, darling Hugo!" CJ laid a hand on her chest, and another on Hugh's shoulder, for balance. Her brown eyes sparkled with amusement, but her expression remained adoring. "How I have loved you, for all these years, like none other!" At the sound of a small giggle, CJ's eyes flickered to the stairs, where a few firsties were now running away. "Hey, at least our epic love story drew a crowd," she remarked with a wicked grin, using Hugo as balance to hop back down.
She laughed as she put her shoes back on, listening to Hugo mock complain about inspiring everyone else but her fellow Gryffindors. "I do, actually," she retorted playfully, winking at him. "Everyone else just writes it off as me being dramatic! Ungrateful gits."
Grinning wickedly when her friend commented about blowing the popsicle stand that was the Gryffindor common room, CJ followed him out without hesitation. As far as she was concerned, this part was all about the confidence; make it look like they had every right being out, and people would think they had every right being out. And confidence in sneaking out was something that both Lions had in spades.
"Ah, alright, mate," CJ answered with a smile, when Hugh asked how she'd been doing. "Still fielding off my dad, but that's nothing new." Hugo was one of the few people CJ had told about her dad's constant haranguing to leave Hogwarts, allow him to home-school her in favour of keeping her out of danger. She hated having that fight with him, but alas, it was commonplace between the warring Nicolos. "What about with you? How's life been treating my favourite Weasley?"

Hugo made a face at CJ's teasing. Thus was their relationship, but that didn't mean he had to take it without teasing her back. Or at least not giving in. He winked when she explained why they were good friends. "At least I understand why," he explained with a wink. Of course, he already knew why they were good friends, but playing around with CJ was just normal and fun.
He grinned when she started acting, but then changed his expression to look serious. Of course, most people in the common room knew how much these two liked to mess around with one another, but it was still fun in front of the first years. They took everything seriously. He kept himself from laughing, nodding as though her confession was expected. "Finally!" He exclaimed in excitement, playing along with her little game. "I've been waiting ages for you to realize it," he gave her a cute smile, chuckling when she mentioned the crowd. He looked over at the first years and gave a wink, standing firm as she used him to get down.
"Everyone?" Hugo questioned. "How come you think everyone does that? I haven't ever heard someone write you off as dramatic," he argued, though quite honestly they both knew it was the truth ... along with the fact that they wrote Hugo off as dramatic as well. When the two were together, things got pretty interesting, to say the least.
Hugo nodded as they made their way through the corridors and CJ answered his question. He knew about her dad trying to get her to leave, but he was glad she stayed here. "Well, I'm glad you're still here," he told her, a little more serious than he normally got. Still, he wanted his friend to really know that he appreciated her presence. Then he smiled at her question. "I'm doing dandy. Xan is finally out and about again, classes seem to be going pretty good and I don't really have anything to complain about most days." Worrying, however, was a different story. Hugo constantly worried about his mother and sister and the people he cared about. Then again, that wasn't anything new.
