Shawn had waited long enough he thought as he raced out of the Hufflepuff common room. The thunderstorm outside the castle just started and if he hurried he'd make it to the potion sitting half made in an empty room in the dungeon nearby before it was too late. Shawn had spent most of his sixth year preparing and training for this moment. Possibly longer as even before his sixth year he had dreamed of becoming an animagus. While many students saw it as just a waste of time since it was both difficult and risky that just made Shawn want the ability more. It started as the idea of just changing into an animal just to avoid how terrible he saw his home life. Yet it was more, Transfiguration was his passion and what he was best at. The ability to become an animagi also proved ones skill in the field.
It was late as well, probably past curfew but he didn't care, he was on a mission as the empty classrooms door slammed open the potion sat in the middle just like he left it in its small cauldron. Walking closer he could only smile, not only to become an animagus but to be free of the leaf that had sat between his teeth and check for months now. All the practice, training and part transformation still didn't prepare him for how nervous he felt as he was now free of the leaf, dropping it into the cauldron it started to bubble and fizz on its own. "Amato Animo Animato Animagus." Shawn said the chant once more as he had twice a day for quite sometime.
This was the moment he had waited for and all he could think about was how nervous he was. For all his boasting and confidence he was now so nervous with that glass in hand. Who wouldn't have been, he had been working toward this for most of the year and some nerves weren't going to stop him as he downed the potion and... nothing. A side from the bad taste in his mouth and warm sensation in his belly he didn't feel different. He asked himself if he was even suppose to feel different, all the books he read and advice he had gotten didn't say anything about after you drank the potion. Possibly he hadn't made it to the potion soon enough to count as a thunderstorm that had just started. How do you measure the vague time of 'just started' he thought to himself.
Shawn was a little disappointed as he expected something, anything to say he had done it correctly as sat down on the ground. It was bit anticlimactic if nothing happened after a potion you just had to have to become an animagi Shawn thought. All he could think of was just go for it, follow all the training exercises. Closing his eyes and focusing on his own body changing always produced just some fur and animal features but never the full effect.
It felt different this time as he had to adjust to a more comfortable position while he focused. Opening his eyes things looked different and yet the same, he expected to just see some fur and human hands but those are gone, it was replaced with yellowish golden fur with black lines along his front legs which were now his arms. He was terrified for a second before becoming over come with joy. Shawn tried to get up and stumbled, he wasn't used to walking as whatever he was and that's when it hit him, there wasn't a mirror in here he didn't know what he was. Yet in this moment he didn't care, he could only assume he was some type of dog based on what he could see.
Finally getting a grip on walking on all fours he started running around the class room. At some point some professor must have heard him as the current potions professor opened the classroom down to find a dog running crazy in an empty room. He was smart enough to realize what happened before pulling his wand out and casting a spell toward Shawn who was still too excited to noticed the professor. As it hit him Shawn tumbled, no longer having paws or front legs and went right into a wall as he just laughed. "What was I?!" He asked while yelled toward the professor who wasn't amused. "In big trouble." The man replied and Shawn just asked again, "No what was I?" The professor finally gave in, "a German Shepard now lets go, to the head masters office with you." The professor ordered but Shawn didn't care he was just so happy that it both worked and what he had become.
While he was escorted to the headmasters office he changed into a German shepherd four more times, each time the professor forcing him back into a human and each time Shawn found it easier and easier to change forms.
