Poe watched as Karen pursed her lips while she thought. It was different from the normal pensive expression, but Poe was beginning to learn that Karen was as far from normal as it got – but not just in the obvious ways. “Send me an owl or something when you find out?” He asked. They probably wouldn’t cross paths unless they went out of their way to do so, so an owl was an easier way to communicate.
Karen said that she felt silly, and Poe’s smile was small and soft as he looked at her before responding. “I like silly.” He said, voice fearless in the declaration but matching the softness of his expression. Karen put her hand on the able, palm up, and Poe only hesitated a moment before putting his hand on top of hers, squeezing it once. “Thanks.” He responded in a whisper. Poe had received many birthday wishes across his lifetime, but none that made him feel quite so warm from his head to his toes.

He suggested that she send an owl 'or something' when she found out when she was free and she nodded. His smile and words 'I like silly, were so warm she wasn't sure she could even drink the hot tea anymore. Her insides felt like they were warming up slowly, like... well, like when you drink a good cup of hot tea or choco.
Poe took her hand and gave it a squeeze and she gave a squeeze back when the thanked her. She pulled her hand back after a few more moments of looking into his eyes, though it was hard to. She thought for a moment that she would just stay there forever. But, they had tea to drink, didn't they? And so they did, enjoying the rest of the afternoon with laughs and smiles and she felt much better about not having a cake for him.
When it was time for Poe to go, she walked him over to the door. "Thanks again for coming over... I hope you want to - can do something again soon. Before that trip. Those trips, I mean," she said, her voice stumbling a little. Before she could talk herself out of it he leaned forward, lifting on her toes just a little, and gently pressed her lips against his cheek.
Kara finished that kiss, pressing a little harder before pulling away. She raised an eyebrow at him, "seems you two had fun. See you tonight," and with that she pushed him out the door and shut it. "Pick me up in two hours!" she called through the wood, running off to her room to get ready.

Poe had to bite his lip to keep from instantly insisting that he wanted to do something again soon. He was being hyperaware of not moving too fast with Karen, and even though she was obviously insecure about his friendship with her, he worried that continued insistence on him wanting to spend time with her would be just as harmful as it was helpful. “I will definitely let you know.” He said instead. Poe was a little surprised when Karen stood up to press a kiss to his cheek – she seemed too shy to do many public displays of affection.
It was obvious that Kara finished the kiss, from the sudden increase in pressure and the look that she gave him after pulling away. Kara shoved him out of the door, and a chuckle bubbled out of Poe at the shift, though he furrowed his brow when Kara said to pick her up in two hours. Two hours? He mouthed the words to himself before shaking his head, slightly bemused by how long it could take girls to get ready.
---
Poe returned to the doorstep exactly two hours later. He and Kara hadn’t been too specific about what their date that night would entail, so Poe decided that too formal was better than two casual, and he was wearing a charcoal three-piece suit. He thought he looked quite dapper, but he was biased. Poe knocked on the door, hoping that Kara had made good use of her two hours and wasn’t going to make him wait longer to get ready.

Kara didn't really need two hours to get ready, but she didn't want to go out too early. That would be lame. So, she gave him two hours. Which, bonus, gave her a lot of time to get ready. She chose one of her many, many short black dresses and a pair of electric blue heels. She left the glasses behind, as she always did when it got late. Her hair was down in loose curls, she didn't really do much with that. Her wand was tucked safely inside her dress, but she hoped she wouldn't need it.
When she heard the knock on the door she swished all her hair to one side with her hand and opened it almost immediately, a smile on her face. Then that smile turned into a surprised expression, and then a laugh. "You wore a suit? Babe, we're going clubbing," she said with another chuckle. She reached forward with both hands to take the collar of his jacket, "may I? I won't rip it. This time." @poet

When Kara answered the door, Poe had to remember how to breathe. He hadn’t ever seen her in a dress that short before – the only other times they’d met had either been when she’d dressed for functionality (also known as crime fighting) or when she had taken over for Karen, and thus the more reserved personality had dressed the body. Poe nodded dumbly when Kara asked him if he wore a suit, his heart jumping into his throat when she called him babe. Kara took the collar of his jacket in her hands, and asked if she could take it. He nodded again, still trying to remember how to use words. The image of her ripping his jacket did not help anything, but after a moment more of silence, Poe finally managed to stutter out a greeting. “You look good.” The words came out as a half-growl, and Poe flushed at the sound of his own voice, choosing to believe that it was his Animagus form that had made his voice so gravelly, and not anything else.

He nodded at her question and she took a step forward, slowly sliding the jacket off of his shoulders. She knew the affect she had on people when she was dressed liked this, not too mention the confidence in which she carried herself well. She was a knockout, that wasn't news to her. He said, or rather growled, that she looked 'good', emphasis on that last word, and she chuckled. "I know. So you do," she said, her voice light and casual. She finished slipping his jacket off his arms and then brought it around her own shoulders in one swift motion, not putting her arms through but just letting it rest there. "Now," she reached up and loosened his tie just a little so that she could unbutton the top button on his shirt. She cocked her head to the side, "yes. That's much better. Now close your mouth and let's go," she slid one of her hands from his collar down his chest and then took his hand, stepping out the door to lead the way.

Kara was trying to kill him. That much was absolutely certain – there was no other reason that she would respond the way that she did, saying that she knew how good she looked. Poe barely even registered the compliment she gave him, because everything in him was devoted to figuring out why a woman like her would even give him a second glance. Kara took his jacket off and slung it around her own shoulders, and Poe felt a tug in his stomach, a feeling of mine that watching Kara wear his clothes so casually elicited. She loosened his tie and unbuttoned his shirt, and Poe let it happen, still slightly in awe of her. He only managed to recover his composure when Kara made a comment about him closing his mouth. “I could do better things than close it.” He said with a laugh, though honestly, the comment probably didn’t do much for restoring his ego after how little else he had said. Trailing Kara all the way to the club made it quite obvious that Poe was wrapped around her little finger, and Poe wondered if everyone in the line to get in could see it. He shifted so that his mouth was close to Kara’s ear. “You didn’t give me a kiss hello.” He accused softly.

He said that he could do better things than close his mouth and she laughed, "I would hope so," she said softly. They arrived at the club pretty quickly, though, and as they stood in line he moved his lips close to hers, saying that she didn't give him a kiss hello. Kara chuckled under her breath, turning a little so that her back was to him and then she leaned into his chest. "You have to earn it. Though, you got close with that adorable suit," she promised with a low voice. The line started to move and she moved forward slowly, hoping that he'd stay just as close to her. She tilted her head to the side so that more of her neck would be revealed under that ear he was whispering into.

A thrill raced up Poe’s spine when Kara said that he had to earn a kiss. That was a challenge that he was certainly up for, though he did wonder what qualified as earning it for her. The line moved forward a step or two, but that didn’t keep Poe from taking the silent invitation Kara had made when she had tilted her neck to the side, pressing his lips into her pulse point softly. He flashed back briefly to his thought about Karen and public displays of affection – obviously Kara had no such qualms, because this was much more public and definitely more affectionate than the kiss on the cheek had been. The people behind the couple cleared their throats, and Poe rolled his eyes at them, stepping forward again before returning to kiss Karen’s neck again, not particularly caring about what the grumpy people behind them had to say about the display. Was he earning his kiss yet?

He pressed his lips into her neck as she hoped he would and she sighed into that touch. In the brief second he stopped as the line moved she pouted a little, but then he was right there again. She giggled as he kissed her even more, but she still wasn't letting up. As they got close to the front of the line she straightened up for just a moment to give the doorman a wink and pull Poe inside.
The club was loud and dark with bright lights flashing here and there. And Kara loved it. She didn't bother stopping at a table or even the bar just yet, though. No, she just pulled him right onto the dance floor and got close to him again, this time front to front instead of front to back. "Do you dance?" she asked, even though they were already on the floor.

Poe saw the wink that Kara gave the doorman, and he saw the man’s response – a small smile – and he had to force himself not to do anything stupid. Maybe it was just the haze that came from having a great day with Karen and the adrenaline of the prospect of spending a night with Kara, but he felt more confrontational than usual, and there was a part of him that wanted to punch the doorman for smiling at what was his. Poe forced himself to take a deep breath, because being so possessive that a smile made him jealous was definitely not a good thing. He loosened a little as Kara dragged them both inside and straight onto the dance floor. “I can dance alright.” He responded with a smile. “What would you have done if I couldn’t?” He asked curiously, since they had already been on the dance floor when Kara asked the question.

He said he could dance, rather confidently it seemed. He asked what she would have done if he couldn't and she pressed herself up against him again, casually draping both arms over his shoulders, "why, I would have taught you," she said, as if that was such an obvious thing. She started to dance with him then, and did so until she was exhausted. "Time for drinks?" she asked, not waiting for an answer as she back up toward the bar. "Oh," she paused, clasping his tie with her right hand and pulling him toward her again, "I guess you've earned this," she said in a low tone before pressing her lips against his. She was going to keep the kiss short but once her lips were there it was impossible to pull away.

The good thing about dancing? Kara was close to him. The bad thing about dancing? He couldn’t focus, because Kara was so close to him. The pair of them danced for quite some time, enough that Poe was glad that he wasn’t wearing his full suit, because he probably would have passed out from heat exhaustion. He was relieved when Kara suggested they go get drinks, nodding happily at the suggestion. Poe wondered if Kara was expecting him to drink something alcoholic, or if he could get away with getting a soda. All thoughts of drinks evaporated, though, when Kara grabbed onto his tie, pulling him into a kiss. He hadn’t known he had been waiting for that moment until his lips met Kara’s. Poe lacked self-control, that much was obvious. The sad part about it wasn’t the way that he devoured her – it was that they were actually one of the more tame couples on the dance floor. Poe finally broke away, his breaths coming hard and unevenly. “Drinks?” He panted.

Poe kissed her back and wow. It was... well, not what she expected. To be fair she didn't really expect anything specific, though. Either way it was hard to break away. He managed too and her breathing quickened to catch up for what was lost. "Yes. Drinks," she said with a nod. She made her way to the bar, but this time she linked her arm through Poes and let him lead the way. She liked to be the dominate one, sure, but she was also a lady and liked to be treated as such. "I'll have a scotch, neat. Get whatever you want," she offered. Scotch wasn't really a 'party' drink, but Karen had decided a long time ago that she was too good for the norm. She did things the way she wanted, not how other people dictated she should.

Drinks. Yes. Good. For a moment more Poe was only able to think in monosyllables, but words slowly began to seep back to him as he crossed the dance floor with his arm linked through Kara’s. He nodded when she told him what she wanted to order, approaching the bar and ordering for both of them – a scotch, neat for her and a scotch on the rocks for him. Was he just copying her order because he didn’t actually have many alcohol preferences? Yes, yes he was. Poe handed Kara her glass with a small smile. “To new beginnings?” He suggested, inclining his tumbler towards hers for a toast. Toasting at a party wasn’t really typical, but it was just one more thing in a long string of things that Poe and Kara were doing differently.
