There were three things on Scorpius's mind at the present moment: NEWTs (which he was certain he would do brilliantly on), starting work at Gringott's (which was coming terribly quickly and his parents weren't terribly keen on), and his relationship with Rose (which was going swimmingly to the point that he was certain something bad would happen at any moment). Since two of them he could do nothing about, he had decided to focus on NEWTs, and was sitting outside in the May sunshine, reading through his Arithmancy text once more.
He was making good progress when a shadow fell across his page, and he looked up to see who had come over.

The sun was blindingly bright, the air was fresh and clean, and a gentle breeze meandered across the courtyard. It was a perfect day to be outside. Adena strolled across the grounds, a sugar quill pursed between her lips, and surveyed the area. Most people were doing the same thing she was: just enjoying the time outside of class to do whatever. Most of them were in pairs or even trios, all laughing and just having a good old time. But one student sat alone: Scorpius Malfoy, resident lover boy and Slytherin's biggest hunk. He would make a fun target. Dena made her way over to him, craning her neck to see what he was reading. It was an Arithmancy textbook. The young witch made a gagging sound in the back of her throat, indicating her disgust at studying on such a beautiful day. Standing so that her shadow blocked out his reading light, Adena stood over Scorpius and grinned, stating, "All work and no play makes Scorpy a dull boy."scorpius hyperion malfoy

Gagging noises and being called Scorpy - it wasn't a surprise to look up and see Adena. "How many times will I need to tell you not to call me that, Adena?" he asked mildly. He was very good at a mild and faintly amused tone, and being disrupted while studying was exactly the right time for it.
As for the accusations that he was being boring, Scorpius was not prepared to accept it, even if it was a little bit true. "I'm outside. That's the fun for today. NEWTs are barely a week away." It wasn't that he wouldn't do well regardless, but he wasn't content with merely doing well. He didn't mind the interruption, but he couldn't help but ask "Don't you have OWLs?"

"I lost count after twenty," Adena replied teasingly, giving Scorpius's hair a light tousle. She sat down next to him, her fingers running through the soft grass beneath her. She leaned over and to get a better look at the text in the book, but it was all a jumble of letters and numbers that she couldn't understand. "Remind me to never take that class," she said. Adena merely rolled her eyes when Scorpius said he was having fun. She never took Scorpius for a nerd, but that was exactly what he sounded like. "Be careful, Scorp. I think Rose is rubbing off on you." When he brought up OWLs, Adena cringed. "Don't remind me. I'm putting it off as long as I can. And so should you," she added, taking his book and tossing it a few feet away. "Come on, Scorpy, live a little."scorpius hyperion malfoy

“Should take Arithmancy then. Help with your counting.” It wasn't his favourite, but it would be dead useful both in managing the family finances and in Cursebreaking. But besides wrinkling his nose in annoyance at her tousling his hair, he tried not to react lest he encourage Adena.
When she threw his book though, he had to say something. “Destruction of personal property. I could take points for that,” he answered calmly. He wouldn't, not least of all because the book would be fine, but a reminder about the rules could hardly go amiss. Not that he moved to reclaim the book - she was right, a bit of a break would be fine. “And yet again, not an acceptable nickname.”
