Adonia, like any actress, needed a 'survival job'. This was the job you worked to last for your career in acting until it took off. And what better place for Adonia to work then a matchmaking service? Wasn't she matchmaking all the time? Well, matchmaking herself with other people for one night... but that counted. She thought the job sounded fun and kind of quirky. Not to mention as a side bonus she would meet a bunch of desperate single people, so that was fun. She liked the idea a little too much, though. The idea of setting people up to find happiness. A different kind of happiness than she was capable of having. There was something nice about that. She had been walking by when she saw the 'hiring' sign and all these thoughts went through her head right before she opened the door, looking around a little for the right person to talk to. jimbo brian blishwick vi

@adonia Typically, Blishwick Matchmaking Services was a family ran and owned business. It made sense because the Blishwick boys were blessed with the potential to set anyone and everyone up with potential partners for life. Success rates were high, and that meant more business. Jimbo was feeling the pressure as of late though. There were more requests than usual. More requests than he could meditate and think about in a day, both during work and non-work hours. Normally that was fine, since his work was his life. With school ending, summer starting, and recent events at hand, the matchmaking shop was slammed. People were ready to get on with their lives – finding a partner, whether they were right for them or not. He didn’t like the latter part, but the customer was always right. That also eased up some of the work on his end. If a customer didn’t really care about having ‘the one’, then that was less time spent by Jimbo thinking about it. Pointing them to a handful of potentials via dates was much easier than arranging quite literally everything between the two.
To decrease how much work he was having to do, Jimbo put up a ‘hiring’ sign on the front window. All he really needed was someone to do the grunt work. If someone (namely Jameson), hadn’t been so against it, he wouldn’t have had to pay another employee. But now was better than never, and since he didn’t have a direct descendent with the matchmaking ability, an apprentice would be necessary. He was fairly sure his daughter wouldn’t want to take over and Drizella seemed interested enough. It was hard to tell with that one sometimes.
Despite the help wanted sign being in the window directly in front of the shop lobby, Jimbo had already forgotten it was there. Enough customers came in and out that any potential hires would be the oddity. Because of that, he thought absolutely nothing of the young girl that stepped through the door. “First time here?” Jimbo asked as he stood up from his chair that he was usually stationed at, moving towards her and extending his hand. A good first impression made the difference between a client or not. “Jimbo Blishwick, matchmaker extraordinaire. What can I help you with today?”

A man stood up from a chair and asked if it was her first time there, moving to offer a hand to her. He gave his name, asking what he could help her with today. She smirked, taking his hand and giving a firm shake, "Adonia Nyström, and trust me, I don't need to be matched. I can handle that myself," she grinned her winning smile and took her head back, tossing her hair over her shoulder. "I was thinking you could use my help, since you're needing to hire?" she offered. She held the mans gaze, surveying him a little. He was handsome, definitely. Charming and suave and well dressed. He was a man Adonia could respect. jimbo brian blishwick vi(supa short, i tried to write more but she's like nupe I said what i wanted to say XD)

@adonia This girl was something else. Jimbo didn’t need long to figure that out. The confidence she had was so glaringly apparent in the way she walked straight up to him and shook his hand. There had been that small window of glancing around the shop when she entered, but aside from that, he could tell that she knew exactly what she was doing and how to handle herself. That was a good sign. There were plenty of worthy candidates he knew of that needed someone like her. His mind was working a mile a minute as he started thinking of the more recent ones were interested in confident, professional women. Before he could get to that point though, she was telling him that she didn’t need to be matched. That she could handle that herself. Jimbo let out a low chuckle. How many times had he heard that since he had started working here? It was usually the young lads that said that though. His typical retort was asking why they were in his shop then, and that got them to shut-up relatively fast. He couldn’t blame anyone for being curious in his services. It was extremely different from typical magic – in the sense that he had a way with figuring people out and pointing them in the right direction if they wanted it.
Once again though, he was unable to give this girl the usual spiel that he would still have better success at figuring out a love interest for her than she ever would be (and that, unfortunately, was the hard truth), because she was here for a job. A job! That was right! He was currently looking to hire someone! “Wonderful! Miss…Nyström was it? Swedish? Lovely country. Been there a few times myself,” Jimbo rambled on as he directed her over towards his seating area. Normally that was where he conducted preliminary client interviews, to find exactly what a person was looking for. Today it would serve as Adonia’s interview space. “Please,” he offered the seat that was across from his own. “So why here? I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting anyone to take interest. It’s a…different kind of job.”

She nodded as he correctly guessed where she was from, beaming as he said the country was lovely. She missed it, and hadn't gone back since last summer. She moved straight into England after being released from the Hospital. She still had a bit of a limp, too, from the shrapnel that decided to embed itself in her. As an actress, she hoped that wouldn't hinder her success. Though, if a director didn't like her due to a limp then she probably wouldn't want to work with them anyway. She followed him to the seating area, taking a seat as he offered. "Thank you, sir," she said, her tone sweet and confident as always. He asked why she was interested in working there, saying he wasn't expecting anyone to take interest due to the 'different kind of job' it was. She shrugged, "I'm an actress, sir, and I read a lot of plays about love. I think it'd be nice to help people find that," she explained simply. jimbo brian blishwick vi

@adonia His earlier deconstruction of her confidence and abilities were now matched with an expert level of politeness. There were a million and one ways to pick apart the way someone said ‘thank you’, and any that ended with a smile and a sir were winners in Jimbo’s book. If she was acknowledging him in this manner after only meeting him a minute ago, her customer service capabilities needn’t be questioned in the slightest. Obviously her confidence practically slapped him in the face from the second she walked in and would equate to dealing with customers as well, but there were still those odd balls out there that had no idea how to talk to a client despite being able to talk the talk and walk the walk with everyone else. He used to be like that as well, but practice quite literally made perfect, and that was why he was where he was now. Except that little issue with matching while put under pressure in public. He hated those ones.
Jimbo crossed one leg over the other and interlaced his hands as he listened to the girl talk. She was an actress – that now explained the personality. It also meant that she knew how to work for an audience. Which this time meant the clients. Being able to accurately judge what they are looking for was a key aspect of the job. “Admirable reason,” Jimbo smiled. “You’re at the right place to help out with that.” And talking to the correct person too. There was no one as qualified as the Blishwick family, and Adonia here clearly knew that. Where else would she have gone to help someone find true love? Nowhere, that’s where. The only thing remotely close to what Jimbo offered was a love potion, and that was lusty garbage. “What do you think the difference between literary love and real love is? I promise that’s not a trick question.”

He said her reasons for wanting the job were admirable and she grinned, sitting up a little straighter. He asked what she thought the difference between literary love and real love was, assuring her it was not a trick question. She paused for a moment, thinking. She hadn't really experience love, at least not as much as others had. She admired so many people and thought even more were beautiful. But some... were special. Her mind drifted to Brandon, the feeling that she got when she was around him. How she wanted nothing more than his happiness, even for the sake of her own. How she was silent about so many things to make him happy. She thought about Maria, and how she was beautiful and breakable and Adonia liked those things about her, and even liked to break her too, at times. She thought about Cara, how she had honestly never looked at someone so closely and really, really felt like she saw who they were. She had never wanted to actually be a better person for someone else until Cara came to the hospital that day. She refocused her eyes on Jimbo. "I think the difference is sacrifice. Real sacrifice. In the books and plays they sacrifice things, sure, but they're always big and dramatic things. In real life you sacrifice pieces of your soul, small ones, intricate ones..." she paused. jimbo brian blishwick vi

@adonia Jimbo was surprised that such a small compliment, saying her reasons were admirable, elicited the response that it did. Everyone enjoyed being complimented on their achievements or better qualities. He personally got a thrill out of putting together a perfect match. That was his way of proving that he was still doing the right things in life. Other people’s happiness meant his happiness, and in turn money to keep his lifestyle going. Some called that greedy, Jimbo called that a part of life. Everyone worked to make money in order to move upwards and onwards. Anyone that said otherwise was an idiot, in his opinion. The ones that were too invested in money failed somewhere, and so did the ones content in not moving from where they were. Constantly striving to get to the next step – those were the people that were truly successful. They were always hungry. Adonia was an actress, she probably understood what that was like. Acting was basically like love, to an extent. The passion, the time put into it, the need to always be the best in order to achieve anything worthwhile, but also being able to roll with the punches. Jimbo was an awful actor, but he had paired enough in his time on the job to know exactly how they operated.
He listened as she described her perceptions on sacrifice, and how those ended up being the difference in his question on literary and true love. That was a wise answer for someone so young. He personally would have used dedication over sacrifice, because it sounded more elegant, but he was sure they were on the same wavelength here. “It’s none of my business, really, but it sounds like you have some experience in that department. Good,” Jimbo paused to let her take it in. “Because everyone that walks through that door is looking to get to that same point – where they find that person that they can sacrifice those small pieces of their soul with, and vice-versa. Think you can handle that?”

He said it sounded like she had some experience and her brow furrowed slightly, but then she released it when he said 'good'. That was a good thing? Well, actually, that made sense to her. In her line of work as an actor it was a good thing to have real life experience to pull from, and why would this been any different? He spoke about how people were looking to get to that same point, and asked if she could handle that. She grinned, nodding her head, "I think I can, sir," she said confidently. "If I may, though... is there a certain reason why you decided to be a matchmaker?" she hoped he knew that she wasn't meaning to be intrusive, but she felt it was good to know about her boss and why the company existed for the sake of being a better and more dedicated employee. She wanted to be a part of something good, and this seemed good, as long as his intentions were. They sounded like they were good. jimbo brian blishwick vi

@adonia Jimbo stopped himself from saying anything immediately after asking his question. The girl looked…confused, at least at first. There was a lot to take in; he knew that because those were some of the same points brought up by his father and grandfather while they were training him all those years ago. Love was tricky enough as it was, everyone always wondering if they were doing the correct things at the right points in time. There were parts that Jimbo hated vehemently, specifically the constant worry and need to appease your significant other. Somewhere over the years, everything became more complicated than it used to be. Maybe it was because people wanted to be more selective, or had easier methods of finding ‘the one’; he wasn’t sure. All he knew was that his ability made it significantly easier to place love birds with each other. Seeing as he was almost always right, he trusted that more than what society said these days.
Then Adonia asked the question. His favorite question, followed by his favorite answer. Oh, she was in for a treat. Good thing they were sitting down, because this one was going to take a long time to explain. “First off, it’s Jimbo. Sir makes me sound old, and while I am old, I like to pretend that I’m not,” he smiled at her, showing that he wasn’t be malicious about it. She wouldn’t have known better. “As for why I am in matchmaking, that is a great question. You see, Blishwick Matchmaking Services has been in the family for just about six generations, yours truly being the sixth. The first born males in the family are always born with the gift to keep the family business going. My grandfather and father both had it, and so do I. We have a remarkably high success rate of matching people together because we can pick out and analyze traits, hobbies, and feelings of our clients and accurately place them with a partner that best suites them.” Jimbo was somewhat surprised at how brief he had kept the description. Usually he launched into a rant that could go on for hours if he wasn’t careful. There was a lot to say about his family and business, and family business, after all. “Back to your question though,” he said, getting on topic once again. “There really isn’t much use for this power of ours outside of matchmaking. That was why the store was opened in the beginning, and that’s how I intend to close it after I retire. Being in matchmaking and helping someone find a person that they might have never met otherwise is exhilarating. Plus, if you’re into gossip and listening to people’s problems, this is the perfect job for that.”

He corrected her to call him 'Jimbo' and she chuckled, nodding to show she understood. Then he started to answer the question. Family history, a gift, high success rate... he went on to say that there isn't much use for his power outside of matchmaking and that he would close it after he retired, is that what me meant? That he'd close the store completely? "You don't have a son?" she asked suddenly, focusing on that and not on what he went to say about gossip and the exhilaration of introducing people. She didn't realize until after her question was out that it could have seemed rude or intrusive. She just wanted to know because of this gift. She wasn't thinking at all about the fact that if he had a son the guy might be her age and very attractive. Oddly enough that hadn't crossed her mind... yet. jimbo brian blishwick vi

@adonia She seemed to understand everything he said flawlessly. There was a lot of history with the Matchmaking store, and if he ended up taking her on, she would probably come to learn all of it in no time flat. Jimbo always liked giving potential customers the whole picture; who he was, what his ability did, and how that could help them find the love of their life. Having a legitimate line of succession as well as a detailed line of success for six generations certainly helped too. Lately it seemed like all the young kids decided they wanted to take things into their own hands though. That wasn’t good for his business, and would cost a lot of money when their lot got divorced. He hated being negative like that, but it was true. His ability actually put people where they would last forever. For the most part. Like all things, there were inaccuracies and flukes. He wasn’t perfect, like every other person out there, despite feeling like he was sometimes.
Jimbo chuckled at her choice to pull out the retirement part from his spiel. That was the most shocking part, obviously. It stood out compared to the company history. “Nope. No son. Just a daughter a year or two younger than you,” Jimbo explained. “So far it doesn’t look like she has the ability. She isn’t really a fan of all of this,” he said, waving his hands around to show that he meant the business. “Can’t blame her. It’s a little strange having the ability to get into people’s heads and then tell them who they’re going to marry.”

He said he had a daughter, and that she didn't have the ability. Adonia pouted a little when he said that she wasn't a fan of all this, and about how strange it was. Adonia shrugged then, leaning back a little, relaxing into her chair a bit more now that the formal interview talk was aside. "There are a lot of strange things in the magical world, it's easy not to be on board with all of them," she agreed, "I, personally, am not the biggest fan of the Polyjuice Potion. Why hide who you really are? Well, unless you''re in hiding or... anyway," she wasn't going to get into a big speculation thing thing him right now. "It's been a pleasure interviewing with you, sir. You're charming, I can see why people trust you," it was not a flirtatious comment in any way, just an honest observation. She was sure that the interview was over with now, and that she would be dismissed any moment. She preferred to leave on a compliment to him. jimbo brian blishwick vi

@adonia Magic was strange indeed, that was for sure. His ability alone was a wonderful example of that. Magical creatures, powers, and the stuff itself was a complete mystery beyond surface level observations. Creation and destruction via magical means was different than physical destruction. The fact that he could even sense a person’s intent towards love and their feelings for certain objects and events was amazing. There was no reason for an ability like his to even exist in the first place, since humanity had been doing it on their own for centuries, and yet here he and his family were. “There are. It’s a little fun being unique though, don’t you think?” Jimbo grinned at her. Adonia went on to say that she wasn’t a fan of the Polyjuice potion as one of the aforementioned pieces of magic that she wasn’t on board with. Jimbo nodded his head as she continued. “Aside from hiding, insecurities. I’ve never found a good reason to use a Polyjuice potion for anything other than a nefarious reason. There just isn’t.”
Jimbo smiled as she thanked him for the interview and that she understood why people trusted him. If they could get past his personality, he was a huge asset in finding them the love of their life. That required one hundred percent of their trust the entire way to work correctly. And that came with experience in the business. “Can you come back tomorrow morning before opening? I’d like to get started on the training as soon as possible. I have a feeling we’re going to be getting a summer rush within the week.”

He agreed that the magical world was strange, but added that it was fun being unique. She nodded, a little too vigorously. If it wasn't for uniqueness then all her lovers would be the same, and there was no fun at all in that. Or any happiness. He agreed that there wasn't any good reason to use the Polyjuice Potion, aside from the obvious things listed. She was happy to hear it, it was always nice to agree on something with your new boss. He asked if she would come in tomorrow morning before opening to train, mentioning the summer rush. Her eyes widen and her cheeks brightened, she nodded vigorously again before stopping herself from looking foolish. "I will be here, first thing! I am so looking forward to working here," she tried to contain her usual squeals of excitement. She thanked him again before leaving, ready to start her adult life here, now, and with all the possibilities in front of her. Even if Brandon wasn't one of them. jimbo brian blishwick vi(adonia out beyotch)
