As some of you have already seen, maxima ruqayyah greyback has come up with the idea of starting a relief fund for the victims of the explosions of the Durmstrang Ship and Beauxbatons Carriage in the name of her half-brother and former Durmstrang Champion, Elias Greyback, who was killed in the explosion of the Durmstrang Ship. Now, in order to get the ball rolling here, Max is going to need your (or, rather, your characters') help.

For context, Max came up with the idea in conversation with @aaron two days after returning home from school. That means that she has the rest of the month of May to get some plans off of the ground, though the fund is something that she will be continuing through IC Summer and into the foreseeable future.

@puck has already started a thread for the charity auction, where characters can "bid" in order to win a date with a professional Quidditch player, meaning that Max (or perhaps @jamie , because Max would not have come up with that on her own) will need to meet with people to pitch the idea.

There's also the matter of the Ministry and St. Mungo's, which are probably the two major players in this, since the Ministry is responsible for dealing with the governments of the victims' home countries and St. Mungo's provided the first response and has been treating the victims.

Since it's not realistic to say that everything should be threaded (and because I don't have that kind of time right now, unfortunately), I would imagine that a lot of this will have to be in the form of mentions of interactions rather than writing them out in their entirety. In other words, let me know here if your character is willing to donate some amount of money or a service for the sake of the fund. If it is something significant that needs threaded, please message me on Discord so that we can plan it out.

As would be the case for any real-life relief initiative, anyone is free to have their characters pitch in in any way that you feel would be realistic for them; you know their connections more than I do! The more the word spreads IC, the more interesting it will be for all of us!

Keeping that in mind, I would love to hear your ideas for fundraising efforts, especially if they can get characters of all ages involved! (I imagine that Max will be asking for donations in lieu of birthday presents this year, too.)

@jamie is available for any threads with Quidditch players to pitch the auction idea; if not, mentions that she pitched the idea after meeting players for the other teams at some Quidditch events are fine.

@royal can probably be handling stuff on the Ministry side of things, unless someone else who's more qualified would want to step in. He also does work with the orphanage so I'd imagine he'd know a thing or two about how philanthropic organizations work and interact with the Ministry. If no one else in the Ministry mentions wanting this role, he could probably have been the one to walk Max through how to register the organization with the Ministry to make it a legitimate enterprise as opposed to just some kid collecting money.

As for ideas for events...
- Duct taping the headmistress fundraiser (if @headmistress agrees of course). Students can pay a Galleon for a piece of Spellotape, and they duct tape the headmistress to the wall. Basically just some innocent fun that slightly humiliates the headmistress and amuses the students, while raising money.
- A charity Quidditch game, because we need to get our money's worth out of the Quidditch players, amirite?
- Balloon raffle. Blow up balloons, put a raffle ticket that says 'winner' in some of them, and sell the ballons at a Galleon apiece. People get to have fun popping their balloons to see if they get a winner ticket. Idk what prizes would be but meh~
- Bake sale
- Walkathon
- Dog wash

So, friends, it looks like a dog wash will be our second event! If your character would like to help out with washing dogs their Transfiguration professor or wants to bring their dog to get it washed for charity, feel free to chime in!

SUZIE, the concert in June sounds like a great idea, whether it's solo or as a first gig (which would be totally cool, not that I'm biased).

As far as the dog wash goes, it's probably going to be the most realistic to host that in Hogsmeade rather than Diagon Alley, I'd think, since there isn't a whole lot of open space in Diagon.

Also, if we do want to go forward with a charity Quidditch match, honey satheesh varma is so going to spectate.

The original post has been updated again to reflect the discussions we had on Discord forever ago now about having a gala, which I've scheduled for late August IC.

SUZIE - I know River had been thrown around as a possible host, since the Flint manor would likely have the space. If anyone has ideas for the gala, in terms of characters' willingness to offer up a venue, or a possible theme, or anything like that, let's brainstorm! I was thinking that maybe a masquerade ball might be fun?

Since it’s been a while since we’ve plotted anything related to the fund, getting all of your transfer students and new arrivals involved with the cause is a great way to meet new people! *wink, nudge*

I’m also still totally down to plan a ball or some sort of social something, if people are interested in that. Considering @annelise & @oscar’s wedding and the fact that @lockhart has his party, I’m thinking that might need to be scrapped?

Also, @puck (or, well, Georgie, technically) brought up the point that someone could send something dangerous to Max, and—since the explosions weren’t just an accident—I’m totally not ruling that out, provided that the staff (CC: Admin Sora, ADMIN DEE) are cool with whatever might come out of that thought…
