The school year was almost over and Edmund was determined to spend as little time inside the castle as humanly possible. It wasn't that he didn't like the castle, but rather the fact that he enjoyed the grounds. He was excited for the chance to go out and about and really just wanted to get a last glimpse of things before he had to leave for the summer. Not that he was saying goodbye, he was just trying to enjoy his remaining days here at Hogwarts.
The castle was somber the last few days, after the attacks on the Durmstrang ship and the Beauxbatons carriage. Only four survivors. It was sad and Edmund felt bad for the tragedy. A part of him was relieved, however. The only real foreigner he'd talked to was Adonia and while she was in St. Mungo's, he did hear that she was one of the survivors. He was glad for that.
Edmund wasn't really going anywhere in particular, just wandering outside. He smiled at the familiar sights and kept walking slowly. For some reason he wanted to move around today. He was so focused on his surroundings that he didn't even notice someone approaching him from behind.

The school year was rapidly drawing to a close. After the tragic explosion of both the Durmstrang ship and the Beauxbatons carriage, it had been decided that Hogwarts would cancel final exams and end the school year early. It all made Saphira so sad. First, it was the attack on the Muggleborns. Now even international compatriots were being threatened. Was no one safe from the darkness?
Saphira had decided to escape the saddening thoughts the only way she knew how: by flying. She grabbed her hand-me-down Nimbus 2001 off her bed and ran out of her room, ready to taste the sky again. She had tried out for the Quidditch team every year since she got her first broom, and she was determined to make the team next year. With everyone just sort of milling about and doing their own thing without worrying about classes, Saph didn't have to bother sneaking out at night to practice. She would be able to feel the sun in her hair for once and feel the day breeze on her face.
She walked across the ground with her broom, nodding politely to the people she passed. A few snickered at her. It was well-known that she hadn't made the team yet, but her late night practices were proving fruitful. She would show them all. As she walked, she saw a dark-haired figure in front of her. Even from the distance, she knew exactly who it was: Edmund Windsor. She had admired him from afar since her first year. He was an excellent Quidditch player, and Saphy sometimes found herself cheering for him instead of her own house. Smiling, she rushed toward him, walking up behind him and tapping him on the shoulder. "Hi, Edmund," she said, blushing slightly.

Someone tapped on his shoulder and Edmund turned around curiously. Not many people would feel comfortable enough to do something like that. Most people probably worried that he'd jump down their throats if he talked to them ... which wasn't inaccurate. He wasn't the kindest of people on his bad days. However, today was a pretty good day, especially since he was outside.
The girl- who looked familiar but he couldn't remember her name yet- was smiling as she greeted him and he nodded back at her, noting the fact that she was carrying a broom with her. As he noticed that, he smiled. "Hey. You on your way to the Pitch or headed back?" She was probably on her way out there, since her hair didn't look windswept or anything, but there was no harm in asking. Maybe he'd join her. He hadn't had much time for flying lately.

Saph looked from Edmund to her broom then back at Edmund. She grinned. "I'm just on my way down. You should join me," she said brightly. It would be a little strange trying to practice with a chaser, although Saphira had always wondered what it was like to chase them around with beater's bats and lob bludgers at their heads. She smiled a little at the thought of herself trying to man one of those heavy bats. It made her glad to be a seeker. She belonged well out of the action, searching for the snitch while everyone else had fun. Still, she wouldn't mind practicing with Edmund. Swapping her broom from one shoulder to the other, she looked up at him, the same bright smile still on her face. "Well?"

Her smile widened and then the girl invited Edmund to join her. Then he finally remembered her name. Saphira. He didn't really know much about the girl and was kind of surprised that he knew her name. He wasn't particularly good with names. Or people in general, but apparently he knew hers. He nodded at her suggestion, wondering if she just wanted to fly or if she wanted to practice, to try and get on her house's team next year. "Ok," he lifted his wand and summoned his broom, not wanting to go back to his room to get it. He turned back to Saphira as he waited. "Sorry, waiting for my broom to show up," he said, rolling his eyes before smiling. He waited a bit, then his broom was there and he caught it easily. "All right, so what's the plan?" Ed asked, starting to walk toward the pitch.
