Aras didn’t respond to the incredulous question about the wand being his. He was glad that he had correctly deduced which of the children it belonged to – it would have been awkward for him if the vine wand had turned out to belong to the girl instead. “Vine wands are peculiar. They have a very strong affinity for the owners, which can sometimes produce… interesting effects.” He explained. Among the interesting effects were seemingly spontaneous shows of magic when their owners came into the room. It had been a while since Aras had seen something like that, though. However, there was still the matter of the girl. He wasn’t going to let them leave until they both had their wands in hand. Aras waved a hand so that the tape measure would begin taking measurements of the girl while the wandmaker considered what kind of wood would be most advantageous for the girl. Something evergreen would probably jive well with her strong personality, but he was at a loss for what sort of core the girl would prefer. Unicorn hair was too subtle, but dragon heartstring was wrong, too. Maybe phoenix feather? Aras had a thought, and without warning, slipped into a small back room. He had experimented with a few atypical cores in his youth, and there was still a pile of wands without any of the typical Ollivander cores. Maybe one of them would work for the girl – Brooke.

The wandmaker slipped away and returned with a few selections after he had deduced that the vine wand belonged to Jace. Brooke was next. She tried another wand in a pine wood which felt a little better but seemed to almost vibrate in her hand, which wasn’t a sensation that she longed for in a wand, something just felt off. Then, the other wand box levitated to her. One of the other wands that the maker had pulled out from his back room. Brooke opened the box and took out the wand, a smile on her face. Everything about the wand felt right.
The two of them left the shop with wands in hand, they knew of course, that they weren’t allowed to use them outside of class, but it was still nice to just have them, it offered a little bit of comfort. And for Brooke, the unique, Sitka Spruce offered a little bit of home.
