@ellie She was in charge. That was true, but Finn also didn’t want to sound like she was the boss. Obviously certain things were going to be restricted here and there at first, since she wanted to keep Ellie to herself for the first few days she was in England. Eventually though, she was going to have to let her sister go out and explore the city for herself. There would be other Ilvermorny students arriving soon too, and keeping her from her friends would be awful to do. Finn nodded her head as Ellie said driving sounded cool. She agreed. There were plenty of touristy things she had been desperately wanting to do (secretly, of course), but had never found the time or the person to do it with. Luke had work, and asking Will to go out in public with her to sightsee seemed like the worst thing she could do with him. “Car it is then. If we go of course,” Finn winked teasingly across the table before returning to her own menu. They were definitely going to go, it was just getting everything arranged first, and then finding a car too. She was sure that her New York license would be able to get them a rental.
“Doesn’t it? Milkshakes are like, one of those things that’s really hard to mess up, you know? I’ve never really been disappointed by them.” Finn tried to contain her grin as she watched the dilemma of choosing between a burger or pasta play across Ellie’s face, but it was impossible. There were times where she wished they were a little closer in age, at least so that they could have spent more time in school together. Everything in Ellie’s life felt so foreign, alien-like almost, to Finn, and getting this chance now left her feeling rather lucky, considering the circumstances. “Better decide soon,” she whispered over as the waitress appeared at the table. “I’ll get this burger,” Finn said, pointing at the one on the menu that she wanted, “And can I get a chocolate shake with that too?” Folding her menu up and handing it the waitress, she waited for Ellie to make her decision.

Ellie nodded her head in agreement that Milkshakes were one of those easy things that were very hard to mess up, and she was glad to hear that her sister had never been disappointed with them from this place. The waitress started making their way towards them, almost in slow-mo, and the brunette quickly began flipping between the burger section and the pasta, wanting to decide before the waitress finally made it over to them. Deciding on which pasta was hard as she listened to her sister order and quickly the eyes were on her. Swallowing quickly she began in almost a stutter, “I’ll have a vanilla shake and uh—uh—sorry I can’t pronounce this, but I’d like this pasta,” she said pointing to the name that was there. The waitress quickly pronounced it for Ellie, but she was still dumbfounded, “Yeah—that pasta,” she said with a soft chuckle as she handed her menu over and watched the waitress left, sinking down in her seat slowly as she watched. “I hate fancy names for simple pasta,” she breathed out more to herself but loud enough to be heard by her sister.

@ellie Ellie flipping back and forth in her menu indecisively was comical. Finn knew that if she personally had been stuck on a long flight like that, she would have devoured at least two burgers while trying to make up on lost protein from sitting immobile on the plane. Her own trip here had been an adventure of its own, and she had to worry more about getting her dog out of his travel kennel to stretch than she could about eating. But that was then and this was now, and having placed her order, Finn followed the waitress’s eyes down to Ellie as her menu was taken out of her hands. All the pressure was on the kid now, and it seemed to be having an effect. Her sister decided on a shake as well, and some sort of pasta dish. Finn attempted to lean over to see which one it was, but couldn’t figure it out, having to read both upside-down and fighting off the harsh glare of light bouncing off of the laminated menu. Thankfully the waitress knew what was up and filled in the blanks before saying she would be back momentarily with waters and their milkshakes. “Right? Especially at a place like this,” Finn raised her hands to her sides, indicating that it was obvious that this was more of a diner than a high-class Italian joint.
“I know it’s a ways off still, but any idea what school is going to be like? Did they send anything yet?” Finn was completely in the dark about what the procedure was going to be like. She had figured that after the damage to Ilvermorny had been done, MACUSA would have contacted her, maybe even begged her to be an agent abroad or something. It certainly looked and felt like she was at times. Basically she wanted to know what the security details and contingency plans were going to be in case another group of fanatics tried something. Surely there were a few connections she had made in the past few months that could give her an idea. It all came down to asking the right people the right questions.

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] I CAN TASTE THE DANGER [attr="class","next"] The waitress left, and Ellie was visibly relaxed as she did so. She didn’t like the pressure of ordering and having the stares be on her, but literally, it was so easy to order. You read what you want off the menu and that’s it, it wasn’t a school presentation in front of lots of students. She nodded her head, “Exactly! Why does a diner use fancy names for something that could easily just state the pasta type, sauce and the chicken that comes on it? Probably a sign that I should have just gotten the stinking burger,” she said with a roll of her eyes and a soft laugh. It was a diner and not some fancy Italian joint, and now she feared if the pasta would be good or not. She’d eat it, of course, not wanting to waste the money if she disliked it. She glanced at Finn as she asked if she had any idea what school would be like or if they sent anything and she shook her head, “They sent like a letter, kind of like a letter you would get your first year welcoming me to the school. There was also the supplies list for sixth years, and it included getting a new wand, since all of us lost ours in the blast,” she said with a shrug before answering her sister’s first question, “But—I have no idea. I hope it’ll be as good as my old one was, maybe even better.” Just as she finished speaking the waitress returned with two glasses of water and both of their milkshakes, placing four straws on the table from inside her apron. And then she disappeared, not even asking if they needed anything else but really—did it look like they did? Ellie grabbed the glass that held her vanilla milkshake, opened the wrapper of the straw and plunged it into the liquid, bringing her lips around the tip and taking a small sip.

@ellie Finn laughed as they agreed on the ridiculousness of the pasta names. It was probably because the diner was trying to be American, or at least as non-British as possible. There were a lot of places like that here, mostly the chain fast-food restaurants. “Wait until you see the menu at the McDonald’s here,” Finn breathed in, shaking her head as she remembered the first time she went to one. Aside from the teenager behind the counter staring at her tattoos the whole time she ordered, the poor kid had no idea what she meant when she asked for a Big Mac. That was when she realized exactly what she had put herself into by moving to London. It was her first night there too and all she wanted was food in her stomach so that she could finally go to sleep. The only good part about those first few days of moving into her place and getting settled was that her wand made the move a thousand times easier. She liked keeping her magic usage in the house to a minimum, but it was a necessary evil during that first week.
She listened as Ellie explained that Hogwarts had sent a letter detailing the supplies, one of which was a new wand. “Yeah mom told me about the wand thing. I know where the store is, so we can go there first thing tomorrow.” It sucked that Ellie had to get a new one, but she would have had to after graduating anyways. That was how Ilvermorny and MACUSA worked unfortunately. “Don’t worry. I’ve seen some pretty impressive ones since I’ve been here. I ever tell you that my current one isn’t my first either?” There was a long story to that, which ended in her first wand post-graduation being blown into millions of wood splinters right before her eyes.
As she prepared her milkshake, Finn decided to jump into the story, “It was one of my first jobs out of training. They sent me down to New Orleans because that’s what they do to new recruits. Send them to New Orleans,” she rolled her eyes. The city was a cesspool of dark magic and corruption, so it was basically useless to try and arrest anyone because they would be out of jail the next day. “And I was in an antique store, which also doubled as a black market for prized creature parts. My wand had the bad luck of coming into contact with an erumpent horn.” Finn motioned with her hands to show that it had blown up. “Gone. Just like that. It was a pretty good fit for me too. Luckily wands made in New Orleans are high quality, and that’s what my current one is. Sometimes change is good.” In her case, the new wand was better than any of the other ones she had handled. There was something about the swamp mayhew wood and jackalope antler core that made it feel powerful. Spells came easy and were explosively more effective than they had been with her old wand. Being an Auror, that was important because she could trust the wand to produce when she needed it to. Not everyone could say that about their piece.

[googlefont="Open Sans Condensed:300"] I CAN TASTE THE DANGER [attr="class","next"] ‘Wait until you see the menu at the McDonald’s here,’Dread filled Ellie at that moment, what had they done to the menu? Had they gotten rid of the stuff that she enjoyed or did they add onto it? Did they go by different names that she would fail at announcing and would have to say the meal number instead to save herself from embarrassment? She didn’t even want to think about it and swallowed, “I don’t even wanna know,” she said with a soft but awkward laugh leaving her lips. Perhaps she’d stick to the nuggets with the sweet and sour sauce. She frowned, did they have her favorite sauce? Oh god, now she was concerned. Ellie nodded her head, “I wonder if I’ll get picked by the same wand I had before, or if it’ll be a new core and such,” she mused aloud. It was a question that she had been thinking about since learning her wand was destroyed and that she would have to get a new one. A part of her hoped that she would get the same core, length, and wood that she had before…but who knew if she would or not. Maybe she had changed enough since her first day at Ilvermorny that another wand would favor her over her last version. She was suddenly brought out of her thought when her sister revealed that her wand that she currently carried was not the one she started with and she widened her eyes. “Really? What happened?” she started seconds before her sister started the story. Finn probably knew that curious Ellie would ask to hear the story. As her sister lurched into the long, but interesting story, she began to happily drink her milkshake as they waited for the food to come out. She was enthralled by the story, eyes widening here and there before she finished with what happened. She had heard about the horns of an erumpent making things explode but had never really believed it. “Whoa—it blew up?!” she questioned, her excitement making her voice slightly louder than a whisperer, but luckily no one around them heard.

@ellie Finn laughed at her sister’s response to McDonald’s being changed. The look she had on her face was probably the same exact one the poor cashier had to deal with on Finn the first time she went to one. A sort of shock and disbelief that a menu as old as time could be changed simply by going across the ocean. She felt it was easier letting Ellie know sooner rather than later. Easing her into the concept that life over here was vastly different from home would hopefully make it easier. The other tricky bit was getting used to the money systems, both with the British pound and the magical currency. She refused to believe that the galleon was easier than the dragot, though the golden coins were much more attractive than the American ones. “We’ll go there tomorrow. Pretty sure it’s supposed to be healthier too,” Finn shrugged. “It beats suffering through whatever I cook, trust me.”Ellie pondered whether or not she would get the same, or similar, wand as her previous one, and Finn shrugged again. There was no telling what could happen with wands. A lot of the witches and wizards she had talked to about it over here swore that their wandmakers were superior to any of the other ones out there. Finn highly doubted that, but she also wasn’t a wandmaker and couldn’t pass judgement on a craft she knew nothing about. If the wand worked for her, she was happy. “Yeah, blew up.” She took a bite of her food to add a dramatic pause to the conclusion of her story. “My current one is a better fit though. I’ve almost had it as long as my one from school too.” One could say the second wand was made for a more experienced witch than its predecessor had been. Her magic prowess had certainly gotten better during her seven years at Ilvermorny. “Let’s finish up here so we can get you unpacked. Might take a while because Brucey is not going to leave you alone.” [Fin Finn 1 Year Later LOL]
