Some of the more senior members of the Order had decided that, for the sake of the younger and less experienced members, some additional training in dueling in a combat situation was necessary. It had been a while since she had been put in such a position in reality, so Parvati didn’t hesitate to volunteer herself to fight against Poet Dmello. He would make for a challenging opponent, and it wouldn’t hurt her to brush up on her own skills, either. Though she felt fortunate that it was only for show and that they both would stop short of allowing one another to become seriously injured in the process, Parvati was still going to give it her all, and she hoped that Poe—given that he was an Auror—would be keen to do the same.
Wand at the ready and her hair pulled tightly away from her face, Parvati skipped the dueling formalities that might have been expected of her otherwise. No one who would actually intend to harm her would care if she bowed to them or not, after all. The goal of the exercise was realism, she thought; it wasn’t Dueling Club.
Although she could have taken a page out of Harry’s book and gone for the opportunity to disarm Poe from the start, she refrained. It would have done more good if they weren’t in a closed room. In a situation where his wand wouldn’t be so retrievable, perhaps, it might have been a different story.
Mindful that she needed to act before Poe seized the chance to attack her first, she took a few steps backwards and shot out the second incantation that came to mind, aiming it in Poe’s direction. “Incarcerous!”
@poet OOC: I hope this doesn’t completely suck. Description of Attack: Parvati casts the Incarcerous Spell in Poe’s direction.

Poe wasn’t sure to feel about the whole dueling training thing. He knew there was never such a thing as too much training, but he also worried that everyone would get an inflated sense of their own abilities in battle. Even he still had so much more to learn when it came to battling – but that was one of the advantages of the career. Poe got to learn something new every day, and help teach others those new things, too. He wasn’t surprised that he was paired with one of the older Order members for the dueling exercises; pitting an experienced law enforcement official against a recent graduate would have been unfair, to say the least. Then again, what had Poe just been thinking about inflated sense of ego? He couldn’t pretend that some of the recent graduates wouldn’t give him a run for his money. They were a talented bunch, and sometimes (not all the time, but sometimes), talent got the better of experience.
Poe had decided to wear his Auror uniform to the practice duel, though he was also going to try to duel some in his plain clothes – not every set of clothing would afford the same comfort, mobility, and protection as his uniform did. Poe had to admit that part of the reason he favored his uniform was the psychological boost that it gave him; it was hard to be meek when you were wearing Auror robes. The duel began, as most duels did, suddenly. When the spell came towards him, Poe didn’t move back. He stood his ground, and flicked his wand arm out. “Protego.” His voice was calm and sure – shouting a spell rarely made it more effective, and Poe didn’t want to get too excited. Keeping a cool head in battle was important.
Summary: Poe casts a Shield Charm to attempt to deflect Parvati's Incarcerous.

The Incarcerous Charm, as he had hoped, bounced off of his shield, the ropes flailing limply to the floor before disappearing entirely. Poe took a deep breath, his eyes flickering around the room that they had been placed in to see if there was anything useful while his mind churned through spells. It was difficult to choose a spell that wasn’t harmful, since most of his missions were with the understanding that the subject might be harmed when they were brought in. But, Poe admitted, it was probably good for him to have to think outside of the box that he normally used when he was at his job. Mental elasticity was sometimes difficult for him, but it was extremely necessary in any life-or-death situation. Sometimes being a good duelist wasn’t as much about being a powerful wizard as it was being able to surprise your opponent. The entirety of his mental dialogue flashed through Poe’s brain in less than a second, but it gave him an idea of what to do next. He didn’t lower his wand after casting the Shield Charm, keeping it pointed squarely at Parvati as he cast his next spell. “Rictusempra.” The word was just as calm as his previous incantation had been, but Poe was hoping the Tickling Charm would have the opposite effect on Parvati, and that she would be too distracted by the tickling sensation to be able to continue the duel.
Summary: Poe casts a Tickling Charm at Parvati.

Not at all surprised to find that Poe had managed to deflect her spell before it hit him, Parvati was curious to see what he would do next. She didn’t have much time at all to think about it, however. No sooner had Poe allowed his Shield Charm to disappear than he stated another incantation.
“Rictusempra.”
His choice certainly wasn’t what Parvati would have expected from him, unlike the Shield Charm he’d used before. Though, in a real battle scenario, one had to be prepared for anything. Knowing that it would be difficult to avoid the silver light racing towards her—and hoping to avoid the embarrassment of falling into a fit of laughter—she knew that she needed to defend herself as quickly as she could. “Sh—” she breathed.
As boring as it might have seemed, that quick defense was the same charm that Poe had only just used to protect himself. “Protego,” she spoke, wand out and trying desperately to reduce her chance of being tickled.

Although she had worried for a moment that her Shield Charm had failed to stop Poe’s Tickling Charm, the absence of the sensation that she knew she should have felt was her first indication that she had been successful, after all. Pleased to find that her defensive move had done the trick, Parvati wasn’t going to waste any time in sending another spell towards Poe. After he had nearly gotten her with that last one, she felt compelled to give him a taste of what he had almost done to her.
With a flourish of her wand, Parvati resisted every urge to smile and kept her manner neutral, almost cold. “Tarantallegra!” she exclaimed, not hesitating in the slightest. While she probably could have performed the Dancing Feet Spell nonverbally, she wanted to make it clear to Poe what she was casting in his direction. Seeing him giggling uncontrollably—particularly as he was in his Auror uniform—would have been quite a sight, but she had never taken him for much of a dancer, either.

Poe watched as the spell he had sent at Parvati shattered against her shield charm, though it looked as if his charm had gotten close to penetrating the shield. Getting close rarely mattered, though – if anything, it served as a warning to Poe that he was once again letting his small measure of arrogance get the better of him. The room that they were battling in was small, small enough that Poe got it in his head that he might be able to corner his opponent. While getting closer to Parvati would give him less time to react to any spells that she might cast at him, if he managed to get the battle away from magic and into a more physical arena – throwing punches and kicks – it could be advantageous to him, not just because he thought he was stronger than the older woman, but because it was always good to remember that wizards didn’t always have to rely on their magic to get things done. When Parvati sent the Dancing-Feet Spell at him, Poe did the opposite of what was expected of him – he stepped forward, trying to push Parvati further back, so she’d have her back against the wall. However, he wasn’t foolish enough to do nothing – even if the spell was (relatively) harmless, it would be an annoyance, to say the least. “Protego.” Poe said, setting up another shield charm to hopefully take the brunt of the spell.

parvati patil macmillan rolled a 6 + 5 = 11. @poet rolled a 3 + 6 = 9. The hit was a success, giving Poe a Level 2 Damage. Due to the spell type and the low level of damage, there are no options to choose from on how to take your damage. The Dancing Feet Jinx is successful during your next turn. @poet turn to attack.

The shield charm hadn’t done its job, and instead of bouncing off his shield, the Dancing-Feet Charm hit Poe square in the chest. Since it had been incanted aloud, Poe knew what to expect before his feet started lurching around in an awkward, uncoordinated dance. The extra warning allowed him not to lose his balance, but his strategy to try to back Parvati in a corner was temporarily put on hold until he had control of his lower limbs again. Luckily for Poe, his torso was relatively stable, and at least stable enough that he had a decent chance of hitting Parvati when he levelled his wand at her. He wanted to do something just as teasing, but he also wanted to win this duel, and playing around wasn’t going to do that for them. “Petrificus Totalis.” Even though he was slightly annoyed by the inconvenience of having his feet dancing a jig he wasn’t controlling, Poe’s voice was still as steady as one’s voice could be under the circumstance, and he just hoped that his hand wouldn’t shake too much as a result of his legs moving.
Summary: Poe casts a Body-Bind Curse at Parvati.

When her latest spell hit Poe and not his Shield Charm, Parvati was pleased with herself, though she knew not to gloat for very long. Even while dancing—which was quite an amusing sight—she knew Poe well enough to know that the man wasn’t about to be defeated by one Dancing Feet Spell alone.
He still managed to cast a Body-Bind Curse at her, and Parvati remained extremely cautious. Poe’s aim was relatively stable for someone who couldn’t control his legs, but at least he couldn’t make any particularly sudden movements.
The worst that could happen was that, in his dancing fit, the curse would go elsewhere. Fortunately for Parvati, it produced a white light instead of leaving her guessing, the way some of his other options might have. She guessed that that must have been an oversight on Poe’s part; he was probably more focused on his footing than anything.
Parvati remained careful, weighed her own options, and chose to dodge way of his attack. Had he not been forced into a jig, she would have used a proper spell against him, but she felt that her chances of not being paralyzed were good.

parvati patil macmillan rolled a 3 + 1 = 4@poet rolled a 7 + 2 = 9Parvati got level 5 damage. The body bind spell was a success, you can either choose to 1) fall backwards onto a semi soft surface, or 2) fall towards Poe. @parvatis turn. Since the damage level was only a five, you are able to get out of the body bind without using your action, so you can still attack.

In her attempt to dodge Poe’s Body-Bind, Parvati had sorely miscalculated her ability to get past the curse unscathed. Almost immediately, the curse hit her. Her arms and legs snapped together as though glued, and she teetered for a moment, falling backwards onto the mat below her.
Staring straight at the ceiling and unable to move or so much as make a sound, she considered herself lucky to still have her wand in hand. In a real battle, she was aware, she could have been seriously injured or even killed by being left in such an incapacitated state. That wasn’t to say that it hadn’t hurt when she had fallen, though; it had, but she wasn’t going to count herself out just yet.
Channeling her thoughts into freeing herself from the Full Body-Bind using a General Counter-Spell, Parvati managed to free herself without Poe’s assistance. As soon as she became capable of moving her limbs again, she got to her feet—sore, but still sure that she was perfectly capable of retaliating against Poe. “Merlin…” At least he had done her the favor of not attacking her while she was down.
Getting her wits about her again, she was careful not to do anything else that might come back to bite her later. It was something that she hadn’t anticipated when choosing to make Poe dance, but doing anything that would make his movements too erratic probably wasn’t the best course of action. Noting that, she chose to disarm him instead. “Expelliarmus!”
If nothing else came out of it, Parvati hoped that it would buy her time to come up with something more creative.
@poet Description of Attack: Parvati goes with option #1 from the God of War. As noted by the God of War, her level of damage is such that she recovers to stand. She aims to disarm Poe.

Rather than dodging his curse by using a shield charm, Parvati had tried to move out of the way of the spell, which was unsuccessful. Poe watched as his opponent fell backwards, her limbs locked into position by the spell. About the same time she hit the mat, his legs stopped dancing, so Poe took the opportunity to move himself a few steps forward, closer to Parvati than he had been at the beginning of the match as he tried to pin her against the wall. That ate up most of the time when Parvati was prone – not that Poe would have attacked her when she was down anyways, since it was a practice match and not a real duel. When Parvati stood up, casting the Disarming Spell at him, Poe was ready for the counterspell. “Protego.” He was getting a bit redundant with the shield charm, but Poe was more confident in his ability to cast a spell than dodge, especially since he had closed the majority of the space between the pair. Even if he did lose his wand to the Expelliarmus, Poe was hopeful that they were close enough together that he could just begin attacking physically.
Summary: Poe casts a Shield Charm to attempt to deflect Parvati's spell (third time haha).
