The spell bounced harmlessly off of Poe's shield, which had been what he was hoping would happen, but it felt rather... anticlimactic. He didn't want to keep dancing around each other like this. They were allies, so they didn't want each other to get hurt, but Poe knew just as well as Parvati that the Purifiers weren't going to be using simple charms. Even the Body-Bind Curse he had thrown at her, which was arguably the most dangerous spell of the match, was tame in comparison to what their adversaries would try to do to them. Poe took a deep breath to steady himself, aware that what he was about to do was absolutely illegal, and if he tried to do it outside of Order practices, he would undoubtedly be sent to Azkaban. But their opponents would use Unforgivable Curses, and they had a duty to each other to practice. Poe didn't cast the spell out loud, afraid that his voice would crack and betray him. Imperio. He incanted silently. He didn't wait to see if the spell took before sending directions. Go stand in the corner. It was a simpler way to get Parvati in a vulnerable position without the maneuvering that he had been attempting earlier. If it worked, they could do some hand-to-hand combat. Even if it didn't work, Poe's use of the Imperius Curse would certainly set the tone for the rest of the practice match.
Summary: Poe nonverbally casts the Imperius Curse at Parvati.

Poe managed to retain his wand, his use of the Shield Charm still strong even after the third time that he had employed it so far. Seeing that, and seeing how his expression became more determined as he focused on her, Parvati couldn’t be sure of what he was doing. Whatever it was, he must have been attempting something nonverbally; he didn’t speak.
Parvati cursed herself for not being her sister—trained in Occlumency as well as Legilimency. She knew how dangerous it could be to be put up against someone who was particularly strong at nonverbal magic. Though she used nonverbal or wandless magic quite often, it felt different when it came with the realization that she had no way to anticipate what was about to happen to her.
In a real battle, she would have had to prepare for the worst, and so she did. As the energy from Poe’s spell came towards her, she could sense that it was about as far from a Stunner as any magic could get. It wasn’t just her imagination; her mind wasn’t playing tricks. No, Parvati could feel herself becoming increasingly calm despite the situation. She didn’t know if it was her own strength that was causing the sensation or the strength of Poe’s spell, but she wasn’t going to risk guessing.
It was though the spell had come up against her mind, if she had any way of describing it. It must have been the Imperius Curse, she thought, because Poe—as far as she knew—wasn’t a Legilimens. The spell tugged, and Parvati pulled back, trying to channel everything she could into resisting it and keeping her mind under her own control.

Gradually, Parvati could feel the curse taking hold. She wasn’t going to stop fighting it; she couldn’t stop. She had to keep going, had to keep… She had to go to the corner. The corner. Right. That was what she was meant to be doing, she thought, unaware that she had ever been focusing on anything else and unaware that it was not her own mind in control of her body.
She walked towards the corner as normally as she had walked anywhere else in her life, though her train of thought did not exist beyond that. As Poe had instructed, she stood where she was directed to stand and did budge from the spot.
When she began to gain an awareness of herself again, the relaxation left. Parvati had a vague idea of how she had come to stand in the corner, and then she recalled how she had had to fight—mentally rather than physically—against the force of Poe’s Imperius Curse. He must not have been able to sustain it, she thought. Of course, she hoped that this was one of the only times that he had ever used it, given its illegality.
Parvati didn’t want to make a similar move—at least, she didn’t want to use anything Unforgivable on him… Something stronger, sure, something Darker… She didn't want to, but she was capable of it. It was for the sake of improving themselves. He knew that and so did she. Wand out again, she breathed in. “Sectumsempra!”

Poe felt Parvati’s will bend under his own, and it was one of the most terrifying experiences of his life. He was slightly worried that since he had now used the Imperius Curse once, it would somehow become okay in his mind, but the middle of the battle was not the time to have an existential crisis about his own goodness, or lack thereof. Parvati went to the corner, and Poe followed, his wand still trained on her despite the lack of chance that she would attack while under the Imperius. When Parvati got to the corner, Poe’s hold on her began to slip. A trickle of sweat rolled into his eye, and when he blinked to remove the burning sensation, the Imperius Curse vanished from his mind, and from Parvati’s. Poe was ready for a counterattack, but he was worried that the strain from the Imperius Curse would make any shield he tried to cast weaker than usual. When Parvati cast Sectumsempra, Poe took one step to the left, trying not to back up so that Parvati remained pinned in the corner.
Summary: Poe tries to duck out of the way of Parvati's Sectumsempra.

Poe had been just a hair too slow in ducking out of the way of Parvati’s curse, but his avoidance kept him from getting the worst of the curse – instead of being ripped open by a gaping wound, only a small cut appeared on his cheekbone. Warm blood began to drip down his cheek, but Poe didn’t care. If anything, the pain served to focus him, and the extra adrenaline that came with being injured was a boon, too. Poe took a step forward, sliding his wand into his wrist holster as he did so. He planted his right foot and stepped forward on his left, putting all his power behind a right hook punch aimed at Parvati’s face. He was hoping that her position in the corner would make it harder for her to avoid him, but Poe had also learned to expect the unexpected, so he was keeping his feet planted in case of a counterattack.
Summary: Poe swings a punch at Parvati's face.

The curse should have caused more damage than it had, though Parvati was slightly grateful that the effects hadn’t been worse, considering that Poe’s having tried to avoid getting hit entirely had led to his being cut on the cheek. The gash didn’t look too deep, from what Parvati could tell at a glance, though it was bleeding.
Poe stepped forward, closer to her. Parvati knew that he was limiting the range of his wand; he was close enough that he would likely have difficulty using it… and that meant that she couldn’t very well use hers, either.
Rather than using his wand, Parvati noted as he brought forth his right hook, he was using his fist. As quickly as she could, she ducked down, hoping that Poe would only make contact with the air above her head instead of with her face.

She wasn’t quick enough to avoid the blow to her face. Being in the corner instead of somewhere where she possibly could have fallen was about all that Parvati could say for her luck there. Poe had hit her hard enough that it hurt in the moment, and she was sure that it would leave a mark on her cheek. At least there was magic to heal it, she thought, trying not to dwell on the pain for any longer than she needed to. Her jaw was fine—Poe’s strike was just above where it would have done more damage to that area.
“For Merlin’s sake,” she mumbled, glad that at least she hadn’t suffered a punch to the gut.
Knowing that it would take her more time than she had to spare to get her wand out and attempt to angle it in such a way that it would be useful to her, Parvati did the next best thing. Standing up as straight as she could and attempting to position herself as well as she could, she brought her knee up swiftly to Poe’s groin, hoping that the pain would be enough of a distraction to help her get out of the corner.

Of all of the low blows to make, Poe hadn’t expected that one from Parvati. Sure, a groin kick was one of the fastest ways to put a (male) combatant out of commission, but it was also kind of a dirty trick. Then again, the Imperius curse had been dirty, too, so he wasn’t one to talk about fighting cleanly. Poe moved back a half a step to try to avoid a knee hitting his groin. He wanted to get out of the way, of course, but he also didn’t want Parvati to be able to get out of the corner. The physical fighting was the thing he felt more comfortable with, at least against Parvati, so keeping the wands out of the equation was good for him. It didn’t really matter, though, if he was in too much pain to think.
Summary: Poe steps back from Parvati's knee
