CANON FAMILIES
J.K. Rowling has stated before that the casting of an actor as a certain race is not necessarily binding, like in the case of Hermione Granger being cast as white in the films but black in The Cursed Child. That being said, any and all canon families that do not have currently played characters are considered open to be whatever race you wish them to be, unless their races is specified within the Harry Potter books or the lore staff requires them to be a certain race. Below is a list of canon families that must be portrayed as certain races, as per book canon, staff decision, or a character of that family already existing. Required: Corner - half Asian/half open Jordan - black Macmillan - half Indian/half white Scamander - half Native American/half white Shacklebolt - half black/half white Thomas - half black/half Indian Weasley (George and Ron) - half black/half white Williams - half Asian/half white Zabini - half black/half white

DIVERSITY IN THE U.K. AND THE U.S.
Both the United Kingdom, where Alohomora is set, and the United States, the country of origin for many characters following the ruination of Ilvermorny, are incredibly diverse places. However, even if we happen to live in one of those countries, it may be difficult to gauge the impact each racial or ethnic group has on the population. For your consideration, we've compiled a list of the most common ethnicities in both the U.K. and the U.S., available below. The United Kingdom The sum of these percentages is not 100%; many different sources were compiled to provide estimations on as many racial groups as possible, so there is less overall uniformity.
White British: 87.2% Asian 6.8% Black 3.4% Chinese 0.7% Arab/Middle Eastern 0.4% Other 0.6%
The United States The sum of these percentages is not 100%; many different sources were compiled to provide estimations on as many racial groups as possible, so there is less overall uniformity.
White American - 63% Hispanic/Latinx - 14.5% Black/African American - 14% Asian American - 6% Middle Eastern - 3.1% Multiracial - 2.3% Native American/Alaskan Native - 0.8% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander - 0.2%
