He didn't say anything about her apology, which was kind of what she expected. She doubted he wanted to be reminded of whatever she'd done with her friends. A part of her wanted to know, though. If the two of them really did become friends, how was she supposed to make things right if she didn't know what she did? Or would Eli be one of those people that would just forgive and forget? She wasn't sure and she hated that. Ashley liked things that were clear and upfront and whatever was going on between her and Eli right now was anything but clear or upfront. It was just plain confusing. At least he liked her saying they were partners. He was just so enthusiastic and energetic. Was he like this all the time, or just after he skipped class? He was still overly excited when they stopped running. Rather, when she stopped their running. How did he have so much energy? It did make her feel a little bit better that she wasn't the only one gasping in air. He was a little breathless too. Good. She shook her head, unable to say anything when he said he'd fly down the halls if he could. Besides that, what would she say? "Great, just don't make me do it with you?" Naaaw, she'd keep those thoughts to herself. She didn't notice that he was ready to continue on before she asked for time, but she did when he started rubbing her back. It was sweet and comforting and she took his advice, taking deep breaths as she tried to calm herself down a bit. He started telling stories about times when he ran too much and she finally stood up, feeling like she'd caught her breath enough. She was sure her expression made her thoughts clear. He was insane ... but not in a bad way. "Why would you run until you're sick?" It just didn't make sense to her. At all. She put a hand to her right side, which was aching a little. Ashley took a few steps, turning the corner and looking at the room. She was so close to getting her potion, which was a really good thing. Now that she'd caught her breath, her head was pounding even more than before. "If they think I have a fever and make me stay in there, I'm going to blame it on you," she warned, glancing back at him. She really hoped that wouldn't happen. Elijah Theron Fleming

THERE WERE A LOT OF THINGS ELI SIMPLY DID not question. Like why he'd ran until he was sick. He hadn't thought about why, he'd simply knew that when he had that it had been enough. In fact, now that he thought about it again. "Well, I think I was being chased..." He told her, scratching at the back of his head, a soft frown on his face as he thought about it. There had just been so many instances where that was the case that it was difficult to distinguish.
At the very least, Eli noticed, she sounded much better than before. She was managing full sentences already! He watched her walk past him wordlessly, peering around the corner. Laughing, he shrugged. "You don't look feverish!" He said, peering at her carefully. "You look..." He would have said cute, but it stuck on the tip of his tongue. "Fine." He settled with, his adam's apple bobbing slightly. To diffuse the knot in his gut he joked, "Better, even..." Winking at her.
Shifting in place restlessly, Eli stuffed his hands in to the folds of his robes. "Do you want me to come in...?" He asked, unsure if that was the plan all along. He knew she'd offered to be his alibi, but the they were there now. He didn't know if it extended beyond that. Their friendship was still tentative, and he didn't understand why.

Ashley couldn't help but laugh when he said he thought he was being chased. It was almost like a question, like he wasn't sure if that was why. "Do you get chased often?" she asked, still entirely amused by that answer, even though he seemed to be seriously contemplating his answer. She smiled when he said she didn't look feverish. He paused as he went on and Ashley was surprised when she felt a knot in her stomach. Why did she care what he thought about how she looked? She hardly knew him and they were barely even friends! Yet at the same time, she did care. He started teasing her again, winking even, and the knot loosened. Ashley smiled in response. "Well I hope they think the same thing as you." She reached up to touch her face and muttered softly, "I'm sure my face is all red now." She didn't even realize she said that out loud. She was surprised when he spoke again, asking if she wanted him to join her. Ash thought for a second, not really sure but at the same time not wanting to say goodbye already. "If you want to," she answered. Then she tried to lighten the mood a bit, "If they do think I'm getting sick, you could be my witness that this is an effect of running." She shrugged, waiting to see what he would want. If he wanted to leave, she wouldn't push it. Elijah Theron Fleming

WAVERING HIS HEAD SO-SO, ELI PRETENDED AS if he were thinking about it. "Well..." He practically whined, a noise more than a word. Dropping his hand from the back of his head it landed with a smack at his side. "I guess you could say that." And then his lips trembled with a sighing laugh. When he looked at her and saw her smiling his laugh gained noise. "Yeah." He conceded, nodding his head.
As for whether or not she was feverish, Eli felt a bit foolish. Like he didn't quite know what to say. She reached up to touch her face, somewhat unconvinced. "Not really," He told her. "Your cheeks are a little bit..." He motioned at them, his mouth running amuck. "And your nose is a bit shiny, I guess." As if subliminally charged he reached up to swipe at his own nose. "But it's nice... you kinda look like a doll or something." His mouth twisted in to a gentle grin, shoulders shrugging as he looked away. He was looking at her face too long, it was weird.
Though he was sure he'd put his foot in it, he still asked if she wanted him to come in. "I do!" He said, almost a little too quickly, shoulders bunched up around his ears. "I'm great at excuses." He revealed with a grin. It was true, Eli could tell stories for days. Professors tended to get so tired of it they dismissed him. It was his greatest defence. Though he was terrible at bare-faced lying.
"Let me get the door," He said, hopping past her to move and open the hospital wing door for her. "Ladies first..." With an over dramatic sweep of his hand, Eli grinned and bowed his head slightly.

He guessed. Ha! That was a yes if there ever was one. He was laughing too now and she couldn't help but join him on that. She was glad that her question hadn't offended him or anything. Now that they'd become kind of friends, she didn't want to do anything to mess that up. He started talking about how she looked and Ashley's face felt even hotter when she realized she'd actually spoken out loud. Then again, he seemed a bit flustered too. Wow. That was a bit cute. She wasn't exactly sure how she felt about her nose being shiny, but he said it was nice. She looked like a doll? That was definitely a compliment and Ashley smiled back at him, even when he looked away. "Thanks. I guess I won't worry about that then." Why should she worry about it, when he thought she looked nice. Ashley's smile widened when he said he wanted to join her. "Great!" She started to move around the corner, gesturing with a nod for him to join her. "Well, I'm glad you'll be around, just in case I need a good excuse."
He got the door for her and Ashley shook her head as she walked through the door and into the familiar room. None of the healers were in sight, which meant they must be in the office. "Hello," she called, somewhat awkwardly. It only took a moment for a young healer to come heading towards them. "Hi," she greeted. "What can I do for you?"
"I'm Ashley Fontaine," Ash started to explain, "and I need one of those potion remedies for my headaches ..." she trailed off, assuming that the witch would know what she needed, even though she'd never seen her before. "Oh, let me go check that out," the woman said, before turning to Eli. "And what can I do for you?" she asked with a warm smile. Elijah Theron Fleming

THAT WAS IT. A SINGLE MOMENT OF UNINTENTIONAL and shared laughter. That was why it didn't matter that they were different people, Eli would discover. That she was friends with his tormentor, or that he would never meet the expectations of those in that group. In those moments it was so easy to forget.
Though talking about her face did turn the tips of his ears pink. But mostly because he felt he could have potentially hurt her feelings. Did girls like being called dolls? He didn't know! When she said thanks his chest eased and he almost sighed in relief. "No problem," He replied gruffly, rubbing the back of his head and mussing up his hair.
Holding open the door to the hospital wing, Eli followed her in silently. The wood thudding shut behind him. He was familiar with the hospital wing. Having received his fair share of hair raising injuries. From broken bones to animal bites, it really was a lucky dip. Eli even recognised the Healer who came to attend to them. Her name was Madam Jeanne Bellmont. She'd been the one to patch him up last time.
Hanging back, though, Eli allowed Ashley to take charge. Hands hidden in the folds of his robes. Already looking around the room, mouth parted curiously, absently listening as Ashley explained herself.
Suddenly, however, he was being addressed and he 'hmphed' in surprise, head whipping back to face them. "Me?" He said dumbly, before coming back to himself. "Oh, nothing for me this time, Jeanne." Eli said, as personable as always. "I'm Ashley's escort." He rocked up on his heels, smiling brightly. Perfectly innocent. Madam Bellmont gave a very familiar and harried roll of her eyes before she set off on her pursuit of Ashley's medicine.
When she left the room, Eli looked at Ashley and visibly deflated, cheeks puffing out as he raised his brows and smiled at her. They had the entire wing to themselves. Eli wasn't usually allowed to wait on his own, they must have trusted Ashley more than they'd ever trusted him. He untucked his hands, taking a large step forward and looking around the room before he took off at a run and threw himself on a hospital bed.
Twisting midair to land length ways, Eli enjoyed the creek of protesting bed springs before they settled. "I'm sick." He declared, crossing his legs and spreading his arms so they hung off the sides, his tongue falling out of his mouth. "Tend to me, Madam Fontaine!" He exclaimed with eyes squeezed shut, groaning theatrically. "Or, better yet! Put me out of my misery!" He was full of silly, impulsive ideas. Especially the kind he found funny.

Ashley smirked when Eli seemed surprised that the healer was talking to him now, but was surprised that he knew the healer's name. The nurse rolled her eyes when he said he was escorting Ashley and she couldn't help but chuckle. Even the healers didn't take him seriously. Maybe that was because he seemed to be putting on a persona for her. Ashley just watched curiously, preparing to tease him for it somehow, though she was sure he wouldn't care whether or not she teased him. He was smiling at her and Ashley was trying to think of something to say to diffuse the awkwardness of standing alone together in the hospital wing, but the he was running and jumping onto a hospital bed. Her jaw dropped and she stared at him in disbelief for a moment, chuckling when he announced that he was sick. Yeah, sure he was. Then he started telling her to tend to him. She walked across the room toward him, hoping that if she was nearer he wouldn't be so loud. She didn't want to get into trouble! Then again, maybe it would be worth it for this. He was funny. "And what's wrong with you, Mr. Flemming," she teased, reaching forward and touching his forehead, pretending like she was trying to see if he had a fever or not. "You seem perfectly fine to me," Ashley added after a moment, smirking yet again. Elijah Theron Fleming

ROLLING AROUND ON THE TOP OF THE THIN mattress, Eli maintained his facade of illness. Peeking out through a crack in his pinched eyes to see if she was coming over. When she stopped by his bedside he became still, eyes shut peacefully, breathing steady. Though he wished to laugh.
Her fingers were warm and surprising on his forehead. He opened his eyes abruptly. Face breaking out in to a slow smile. She had soft hands, he noted. His own were riddled with calluses at the tips from various bare-handed adventures. Shifting for comfort, Eli cleared his throat.
"Well, I thought that was your job to tell me..." He said, snickering slightly. "What kind of Healer are you?!" He reached up and pulled the pillow under his head out, tossing it at her face playfully. In the wake of that he rolled off the bed, jumping to a stand and putting his hands on his hips. "Now what?" He said, blowing out a breath.

He was lying there, just looking up at her for a moment and Ashley started to feel a bit tense until he started to smile. She rolled her eyes when he said that was her job. "My "job" is to figure out what's wrong, but how am I supposed to do that if you have no symptoms?" she demanded, fighting to keep herself from laughing. "And I'm not a Healer, as you know very well." Ashley was busy retorting and didn't notice the pillow until it hit her softly. She grabbed it before it could fall and held it at the ready, just in case he was about to throw another one at her. "What was that for?" she demanded, giggling just a little as she shook her head. When she realized he was standing there without another pillow she tossed hers back onto the bed. She shrugged at his question. "I don't know. It doesn't normally take them long to get the potion," she looked in the direction the Healer left, but saw no sign of her. "Are you always this restless?" She didn't intend for the question to be mean or anything, she was honestly curious. Elijah Theron Fleming

ELI DIDN'T ANSWER HER WHEN SHE QUESTIONED the integrity of his faked illness. Simply tossed the pillow at her and hopped up from the bed. He almost reached for another, but found no desire to be caught tossing pillows around. He was supposed to be her escort. But, that didn't mean he wanted to sit still and wait. That held no desire to him whatsoever.
He pivoted toward her when she spoke, an open look on his face. Why was he so restless, she'd said. It made him aware of the fact that his fingers were tapping against his hip. Of the slightly jiggle of his leg. "Uh... I don't know." He said, pouting out his bottom lip. He'd been asked this before, of course. By professors, friends, concerned adults. Why did he struggle so much to focus? They didn't have an answer. His mother just said he was 'enthusiastic'. His dad said 'boy's will be boy's'. "I just... I've always been like this."
Suddenly, Eli sat down. As if to prove that he could. Sitting on the bed beside the one he'd lay on before. He folded his hands together between his open legs. Lightly, the heel of his right foot bobbed up and down. "Why do you get headaches?" It was a question for a question. Eli looked up at her, his forehead wrinkled, brows raised.

He seemed a little put out by her question, saying that he didn't know and he'd always been that way. Ashley thought about that for a moment. "It's not a bad thing, you know. I was just curious," she told him, hoping she didn't upset him or anything. "It makes you fun," she added with a smile. She definitely didn't want him to feel like he had to change or anything. He sat on the bed, looking up at her with curiosity as well. He asked his question and Ashley thought about it, sitting down so she was on the bed as well, turned so she was still facing him with her legs crossed in front of her. She bit her bottom lip a little. "I'm not entirely sure. My parents think it's because of stress and me trying too hard to be good at things ..." she trailed off, shrugging a little. "but sometimes I get headaches when I'm relaxing or doing something fun so I don't know." It was weird talking about this. Her friends knew about her headaches, but they never talked about it. She'd never had anyone ask about her like this before. Elijah Theron Fleming

IT WAS LIKE SOMETHING UNTANGLED IN HIS chest when Ashley reassured him. He hadn't been expecting that from her. A soft kindness that made him feel warm in the face. "I'm fun?" He said with a smile, head bobbing slightly. It was better to latch on to that than the deeper side of things. Where his insecurities and anxieties lay in wait.
Sitting on the bed, Eli sat looking at his hands when he first asked her about her headaches. He'd dismissed the topic before out of awkwardness, but that didn't quell his curiosity. He wanted to know more about her. They were friends now, so technically he could ask. But Eli didn't breathe until she sat beside him and spoke. Turning his head, he listened carefully.
"Really?" He said, frowning in thought. "Then it isn't stress, is it?" It seemed simple to him. The fact that the answer her parents had was not the right one and that they needed to look for another. "Isn't there a way to figure it out? Instead of just... brushing it off?" He tapped his foot, screwing his face up minutely before he relaxed it in to a smile. "But hey, what would I know?" He shrugged, shifting so that he could mirror her position on the bed and they could face each other.
"Tell me something about you that nobody else knows." He dared, quirking his brows. He'd decided what they could do while they waited. Questions. He only hoped that Jeanne would keep her distance for a little while longer.

He was smiling again and Ashley felt relieved. She hadn't upset him, at least not too much. She nodded her head firmly, "Well you've been fun today. If this is how you normally are, then that's a definite yes." There. Hopefully that would be good enough for him, because she wasn't sure if she wanted to go into specifics. She was confused enough around him, which was strange since an hour ago she'd never had a real conversation with him. She shook her head, agreeing with him when he said it wasn't stress. "No, it's not." She sighed, "I'm sure we could figure it out, but I think my parents don't realize how big of a problem it is. I don't get as many headaches at home, so it's not seen as a big deal." Her eyebrows furrowed as she thought about it. "I've talked with the Healers about it and they're looking into things, but so far they don't know either." She smiled when he asked what he knew about it, but didn't say anything in response. She'd already answered his questions. Then he was asking for another secret of hers. Ashley had a lot of those. She wasn't really open about lots of things with her friends and such, but she wasn't sure she wanted to tell another deep secret right now, so she thought for something light, grinning when it came to her. "You can't tell anyone about this," she told him, wagging her finger at him and fighting to keep her expression straight. "I know it's silly and it shouldn't really be a secret at all, but not even my brothers know this." Ashley paused for a moment, drawing out suspense. "I have a major weakness ... for ice cream. Like, I will literally do anything for ice cream, practically any flavor." She pursed her lips a moment before giggling. "I have it at least once a day here at school and go through serious withdrawals whenever I'm at home and it's not available." She grinned brightly at him. "Okay, your turn! Tell me a secret!"Elijah Theron Fleming

ELI WAS DEFINITELY FLATTERED, SHE THOUGHT he was fun. His smile was as smug as it was gratified, but he simply shrugged as if to say 'I guess'. He didn't always give himself credit, especially when it came to matters as trivial as 'being fun'.
Having been genuinely curious and concerned when he'd asked about her headaches, Eli listened diligently to her explanation. She agreed it wasn't stress, but other than having Healer's looking in to it there didn't seem to be anything else they could do. It felt useless to him, or rather, he felt useless. He couldn't imagine having an ailment like that and never knowing why. Restlessness was one thing. Severe headaches something else. "Well, hopefully you'll know for sure soon." It was all he had to offer, other than a nod and a smile.
It had been a sort of distraction when he'd sat before her and asked for a secret. Not really expecting anything, a part from maybe another shove. Eli's mouth opened further and further until it gaped. An exaggeration, but amused none the less. "No way..." He said, shoving her knee lightly. "I don't believe it."
She'd given him something soft. Something that, if he so pleased, he could use against her in a group as hard as Bianca's. To ridicule as they would have done to him. "You've given me your weakness..." Eli flattened his features with great difficulty, shaking his head morosely. "Now I must use it to destroy you..." But soon enough he dissolved in to laughter.
Now it was his turn. He hummed as he thought, looking up at the ceiling as he considered all his secrets. He didn't have many, not anything his friends didn't know at least. "Okay, I got it." He said, looking back at her. "I can't really swim." Pressing his lips together, Eli looked at Ashley. "I can float... but as soon as my feet can't touch the ground I- I freak out." He used his hands to talk, pinning each word with a slash. It was a secret he was vague about even to his friends. Mainly because he was embarrassed.

Ashley nodded when he commented that he hoped she'd know soon. She did too. It got annoying, having to leave class early for this. She was just glad that her professors were aware of it, so they didn't make a big deal about it in class. They'd just nod to her and let her leave if she needed to. That was the only reason why most people didn't know about it. Thanks to her understanding professors. Eli's jaw dropped as she explained how much she loved ice cream. Ashley knew it wasn't really a big deal and that lots of people liked ice cream, but since it really was something she'd never talked about, she felt a little silly talking about it. He pushed her knee, saying he didn't believe her and she shrugged, "It's true. I'm addicted to ice cream," she admitted easily. He seemed to go a little more serious then and Ashley watched as he started talking about using ice cream ... to destroy her? What in the world was he talking about? She was about to demand that he explain himself when he busted into laughter. It was a joke. She reached forward and pushed his shoulder. "You ..." she trailed off, not knowing what to say to him, but sure he could hear the slight annoyance in her tone. It was hard to be angry at someone that was so happy though. A moment later she was smiling as she shook her head at him. He was ridiculous. Ashley watched him as he hummed, obviously trying to decide what to tell her. She had no idea what to expect after her previous revelation. Her eyes widened slightly when he admitted that he couldn't swim. A fear. She knew her friends loved to discover things like this about the people they tormented, to tease them and make them even more uncomfortable, but there was no question about that in her mind. She wasn't going to tell anyone and she wasn't going to laugh either. Secrets like hers were fine to laugh at, but his was an actual secret. "Is there a reason?" she spoke slowly, curiosity taking over. "I mean, did something happen that made you not like it when your feet can't touch the ground or is it because you can't swim?" Ashley hoped he could tell that she wasn't going to make fun of him for this. Elijah Theron Fleming
