IT WAS A MAGNIFICENT PLACE. Eli didn't have to know much to know that. Hogwarts wasn't like Ilvermorny. Ilvermorny was - had been - a beautiful place in its own right, but Hogwarts seemed bigger. It breathed in an older way. The more he looked, the more Eli wondered at the prospect of such a place being built. It gave the impression that one day the land was barren and in the blink of an eye the castle took its place. Like an ancient being.
With these dreamy thoughts, Eli stood in the hallway, almost entranced. Having wandered on his way back from the restroom, he felt no desire to rejoin his table. Instead he squinted up at a painting. It moved, seemed to preen under his open mouthed attention. But it didn't speak. Eli had rolled the sleeves of his robe over his hands, tugging at the fabric until it stretched, falling off one shoulder. He continued to stare, even lifting a balled up hand to wave at the painting. It didn't wave back.
However, a ghostly figure did materialised from the frame, flying straight for Eli's face. He gasped, lifting an arm to cover his face as it zoomed at him and passed through his figure. "What the...?" Eli whipped around, eyes like saucers as he watched the mischievous figure salute him before dissipating. "I-." He was speechless. In need of conversation, of company, to relate this madness and surprise to another being. He saw a figure walking along the hallway. He laughed out loud, cheeks hitched in a smiling expression. "Did you see that?!"
@corrine hope this works!

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] Passing by the end of cold winter until the spring day comes again
Second day into school and Corrine found herself being late to dinner already. With the unusual number of students around the school she could not even make her way to the Great Hall without the fear of being caught in groups of people. She had decided to wait out in the library and then make her way to dinner. And that was how Corrine found herself immersed in a book for quite a long time than necessary. And when she did realize her lateness, she knew for a fact that she missed half of her dinner time. Hurriedly she made her way downstairs to the Great hall. As she was waking down the hallway she caught sight of one of the ghosts who seemed to be very busy showing off to a new student. And true enough she saw the ghost pass through the guy and vanish away from that place.
Shaking her head Corrine began to walk away, but stopped when she heard him laugh and then he spoke up causing her to look at him. Her blue eyes filled with amusement as she found herself nodding at his question. "Yes I did see that," she said and then asked "so this is your first encounter with a ghost I believe?" Given that the guy looked to be someone from around her age, she guessed that he had to be transfer student. Besides every student in Hogwarts were practically used to the ghosts strange behaviours. And she had known from her own buddy that they were various things in Hogwarts that Ilvermony did not have causing the transfer students to be surprised at many things. "I'm Corrine by the way, Seventh Year raven" she said with a small smile.

STILL AMAZED AND DELIGHTED BY HIS ENCOUNTER, Eli had gushed to the first person in sight. Thankfully, she didn't simply turn her back on him. Stopping and replying, which Eli hadn't expected. He'd simply outburst. Reeling and amused. "Good," He said, still grinning. "Now I know I didn't imagine it." He walked forward, approaching the girl so that he wasn't yelling across the hall. Looking over his shoulder only to see if the ghost had reappeared.
"It's definitely my closest encounter." He breathed, feeling the chill in his chest. "Think it iced me from the inside out." He wasn't upset about it, but it was an odd feeling. Like his body knew it had been infiltrated, just not how. He raised a hand in a friendly, loose wave. "Eli," He said, shrugging the shoulder of his robe back in place casually. Only for it to immediately fall off again. "Seventh year." He pointed to his yellow and black stripped tie. "Hufflepuff, respectfully." He pointed to her tie in turn, the blue and silver.
"The yellow is cool, but I think the blue is nicer." He told her, still learning all the intricate differences between Ilvermorny and Hogwarts. "At Ilvermorny we all have the same robes." He reached up to absently play with the tie of his robes. "We used to have this stupid gold clasp at the top. It always dug in to my neck." He was rambling, surely, filled with restless energy.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] Passing by the end of cold winter until the spring day comes again
Corrine was absolutely amused at the reactions the other guy was giving. And she had to wonder if that was how she too had behaved a those years ago when she entered the castle as a wee first year. The castle was kind of amazing and has its own charm which makes it a special place for many. It was home away from home to quite a lot of people including herself. It offers a sense of calming and peace to any who want. And it also has enough tricks and mysteries to keep the adventurers occupied. As the guy addressed her once again she gave a chuckle and said "of course you were not imagining it, ghosts here do that a lot you know... Going through you.." she said indicating what had happened to him just a few seconds ago.
At his on spot description of what had happened to him Corrine gave a slight nod and said "yeah that's pretty much how it feels, cold as though someone dropped a pail of once cold water over you". As he approached her Corrine could see that he was a Hufflepuff student from his tie and gave a smile at his friendly wave. "Nice to meet you Eli" she said and then added "welcome to Hogwarts". At his choice of words, Corrine found that he had a rather unique way of making conversation if that was what he was trying to do. Nevertheless she gave a slight smile at his compliment over her house colours. "Well I like black more than blue, so you can say I'm partial to having a Hufflepuff tie. But I do like blue over yellow" and smiled.
As Eli mentioned what it was like in Ilvermony Corrine found herself nodding at his words listening with interest. She would definitely appreciate the knowledge on things she did not know. And then at his mention of having common robes she asked "so how do you differentiate between the houses ? " And then when he said that had clasps she actually sympathized with him as she said "that definitely sounds painful to me. Did you have to wear it daily?" she asked wanting to know more and all thoughts of dinner were thrown away from her mind.

THOUGH HE FOUND IT INFINITELY CHARMING THAT A GHOST HAD MADE A DOOR OUT OF HIM, Eli found it infinitely surprising that it was a common occurrence. "Is that... allowed?" He joked, pressing his lips together tightly as he considered it. "Doesn't that traumatise some of the kids?" He thought of his brother at 11, a ghoulish figure leaving him iced from the inside out. Then again, Atticus would probably get the same kind of kick out of it that he did. They were quite similar.
Eli nodded, he didn't know what a pail was, but cold water seemed about right. "It'd definitely sober you up," He said, still grinning wildly. "Thanks," He said at her polite welcome to her school. She didn't seem bothered at all at the sudden influx.
Eli could make a conversation out of anything, his mom used to say that he could make a friend in an empty room. It came naturally to slip in small talk. Though Eli doubted that any talk was small. He slapped his hands against his thighs in a helpless flap of his arms. "Can't win em all, huh." He said passively, blowing a breath out as he did. "I don't hate the yellow, though." He added, he had disliked the Ilvermorny robes more, most definitely and he told her as much. Her question struck him, though, he couldn't remember.
"I dunno," He shrugged, they just had. And he'd never felt the desire to inquire further when it was possible. "Yeah.." He sighed, giving a weary raise of his brows as he thought about it. He'd tried to shed the awful thing multiple times but had been reprimanded at every turn. It was an essential addition to the uniform, apparently. He thought it was stupid.
"Oh, were you heading to the dining hall," Eli asked, remembering suddenly that he was practically pinning her in place with chatter. "Didn't mean to keep you from dinner," He said with a small laugh, pointing in the direction she had been going and he had been side-tracked. "I can walk you in if you want?" He respected that some people liked to be alone, but he never did. Plus, he wouldn't mind an excuse to sit at a different table...

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] Passing by the end of cold winter until the spring day comes again
When Eli had asked her if it was allowed, she gave a chuckle and said "well there is no particular rule stating against it as far as I know." and then she added "besides I don't think that they would obey the rules even if they exisist. I definitely cannot imagine a ghost with a rulebook in hand". But as far as Cor had remembered no rules were there any where which would restrict the ghosts, they were part of the castle from what she had seen. At his next question however she too was left thinking of the actual effects but thinking back to the first years who walk in to hogwarts every year she spoke up "I think they find it funny to be honest, after all everything is fascinating to us at that age." In fact she herself had been very interested to see ghosts when she came to hogwarts.
At his comment Cor chuckled and said "a better way to sober up if you ask me, better than the potion atleast". She had taken it once and that made her feel that being hungover was way better than to deal the taste of the potion. She inclined her head at his thanks and smiled. While man felt that the extra students were nothing but a pain in their rear side, Corrine did not feel that way. She felt it was a great oppurtunity to meet new people and make new friends and talk about the different cultures and practises of magic. And only as she talked to those outside of Hogwarts did she realise that there are a great deal of things she did not know. At his comment, she gave a grin and said "won't hurt to think".
As he mentioned about Ilvermony, she nodded and truth be told she would not need the house colors either to differentiate between her year-mates. It would seem that after some point of time, one would end up recognising their fellow classmates and few from other years even. As he mentioned about the dining hall, she rememebered the reason why she was standing out and gave a small nod as she spoke "yeah I was headed there". As he mentioned about not meaning to keep her from dinner she just waved him off and told him to not worry. It would not make a difference for Corrine even if she missed her dinner, for she knew that certain house elves would be more than happy to pamper her with good food. When he asked her if he can walk her in, she gave surprised look at him, hoping that he had not caught her look she quickly spoke up "only if you would join me for dinner, if that is okay for you". Her boring dinner might become interesting with his company.

ELI THOUGHT OF THOSE CLASSIC NO-MAJ movies. "Sounds like a job for the Ghostbusters," He snickered, thinking back to watching the movie as a kid with his mom, who had loved no-maj cinema. Though he found it funny, he couldn't help but think about how ridiculous it all was. Which, to be fair, was fine by him. "At that age? I'm fascinated now!" He declared, laughing gently. She seemed nice, a fairly logical speaker. He found he liked asking her questions, because she always seemed to have an answer.
"Oh yeah...?" Eli said, eyeing her carefully. "That from personal experience?" He was surprised to consider it. She seemed so... well put together. The kind of person he saw with a badge or a clipboard, docking points. Not in a bad way, she didn't seem unpleasant. Just... authoritative, he guessed.
Eli felt minutely guilty for keeping her from her meal, but she didn't seem to mind. He thought she might have just said as much to be nice, but he didn't mind if she had. He thought it was sweet. Not always observant, he didn't catch her surprise at his offer, was already walking to her side when he said it, but thankfully she seemed happy enough to agree.
"'Course," He scoffed, shrugging his shoulders, walking alongside her to the great wooden doors that led in to the hall. Peppered with students coming and going, some with jumpers full of squirrelled food. "Never say no to a bit of dinner chat," He joked. He doubted his friends would miss him for one meal, plus, he quite enjoyed the prospect of eating at a different house's table. It was actually exciting. "So, do the Ravenclaw's all sit around and talk numbers all day?" Eli joked, tongue in cheek. "Someone told me its where all the smart ones get placed." With a quirk of his brows, he gave her a thoughtful look through playfully shrewd eyes. "You definitely give me 'smart girl' vibes."

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] Passing by the end of cold winter until the spring day comes again
When Eli mentioned a muggle movie, Corrine raised her brows at it and asked "you know about the Ghostbusters movie?" It always seems like a surprise to her when someone mentions things from muggle world. Not many bring up the topic of it for the fear of being judged, but Corrine on the other hand never felt that way. It was a part of who she was considering that their family had been living in the muggle world for a very long time. "Well if you are fascinated now, they would also be right...." she said with a smirk.
When Eli had asked her if it was from personal experience she looked at him and nodded her head. "You can say that" she said with a grin and then she added in a low voice "at one of the school parties, someone spiked the drink". Not that Cor was complaining about it or anything. At times she loved to have some fun and if that meant breaking a little rules here and there she was all up for it. "Let's say that we all had to gulp down the sober up potion the next day" and grimaced as she remembered the taste of it.
As Eli had agreed to join her for dinner, she nodded and began to walk in step with him. And at his next question she found herself absolutely amused. Deciding to have a little fun, she spoke up "well we do sit around and talk, but it is not always number you know, we do talk about words and alphabets " and grinned her eyes filled with playfulness. As he mentioned about all the smart ones being in her house, she tilted her head and said "well they say so, but that does not mean the other houses are not". She had always found that the stereotype of the house qualities never seemed o go away even after all this time. She had assumed that people would look beyond one's house, but that does not seem to be the case. At Eli's comment on her she raised a brow at him and asked playfully "smart girl vibe huh?" wanting to know what made him say so.

ELI WAS USED TO EITHER CONFUSION OR surprise when his extensive knowledge of vintage movies came in to conversation. It was with delight that he found Corrine to be the latter, "Uh, yeah!" He exclaimed, shaking his head. "My mom, she uh- yeah the old no-maj stuff was her favourite." He tugged at the hem of his sleeve. Talking about his mother made Eli feel a bit sick. Like she might hear him accidentally refer to her in the past tense. "She said they had 'charm'." Shrugging a single shoulder, he hoped the thread of conversation would smoothly slip elsewhere.
At Corrine's declaration that they would be right, Eli simply nodded his head so-so, pouting out his bottom lip. He supposed she was right. His attention was better served learning that Hogwart's wasn't as straight-laced as it appeared. Chuckling, he bobbed his head. "Nice." He said, impressed. He wouldn't mind a spiked punch bowl, that was for sure. Though he wasn't a big drinker, he liked drinking socially. How loud and carefree it tended to make people.
He'd been joking when, as they walked toward the doors, he'd asked if Ravenclaw was true to its stereotypes. She seemed only too happy to carry along with it, no offence taken, which Eli observed with relief. "Well, let's hope it doesn't get too complicated," Eli said, his cheeks expanding as he blew out an exaggerated breath. "Otherwise I'd really have nothing to say." He didn't mind poking fun at himself, though it did hurt when others figured he was a little slow on some academic subjects.
As for her opinion on intellect spreading all throughout the houses, Eli nodded. "Yeah, I know." He said easily, thinking about his brother. "My little brother, he's in Gryffindor. Smart as a whip!" His tone was full of pride as he spoke of Atticus. He was quite firm, however, when conversation moved on and he playfully claimed Corrine's vibe. So he nodded when she questioned him, smirking.
"Oh yeah," He told her, crossing her arms over his chest. "I don't think you've said 'I don't know' once since we started talking," He joked, quirking his brows, his cheeks hollowing slightly when he smiled. "Honestly, it's a little intimidating..." Though this was not in fact true. Eli felt no discomfort chatting with Corrine, their banter easy. He found her extensive knowledge of Hogwarts a blessing, really. Not many would indulge his chatter of ghosts and no-maj movies.
By this point they had reached the interior of the Great Hall. The bustling hum of noise and clattering plates filling the space between Eli's ears. Eli's eyes immediately cast toward the ceiling, where the sky was reflected in a sea of twinkling stars and a blazing half moon. Floating candles lighting the space between, but not dulling the view of an interior horizon. "God, I will never get over that." Eli remarked in awe, his adam's apple bobbing as he gave a breathy laugh. "Now that's magic," He said, wrinkling his nose as he tore his gaze away finally. "Anyways, where are we sitting?" He asked Corrine.

Corrine was smiling when Eli admitted to knowing the movie. As he mentioned that it was his mom's favorite, she nodded her head and said "I used to like that movie a lot as a kid". When he mentioned no-maj, at once Cor could not understand what the word was, and only after a moment's time did she understand that it was what the non-magical people in US were called. While the Uk called them as Muggles, the US called them as no-maj. Either way there always seems to be a name for those who do not have magic, as though they were branding them. She nodded at his words and decided to drop the conversation there as she did not want someone listening on and labeling them as muggle-lovers, making them as target of the purists.
As they walked towards the door, Cor chuckled at his words and said "well I am not sure that you would have something to say, you do't strike me as the type to stay calm" she added the last part with a grin. And it was true, for someone who only met, he sure was very comfortable in talking. And that was something she liked in him.
When he mentioned about his brother, she nodded her head and said "see, I told ya" and grinned. And then she asked him "which year is he in?" trying to know about him. "I have a sister and brother, one is a hufflepuff and the other is a gryffindor" and with a chuckle she added "pity our family doesn't have one in slytherin". But then again she knew that none in her family are that cunning enough or ambitious enough to end up in the house of slytheirn. All of the Cleaves were loyal, stubborn and intelligent, that was why none were sorted into Slytherin.
When he reasoned why she was, Corrine found herself laughing a little, and even she has to agree that there were not many a times when she would say 'I don't know' for an answer. That was how she was, a bit curious and always trying to know the answer to anything and everything. "Well as a seventh year, I should at least try and know the answers"and gave a smile. When he said that she was a bit intimidating, she tried to hold herself from laughing out loud and instead she had on a wide smile as she said "me ... intimidating.. wow that's the first time someone said it to me" and she meant that in a good way, her smile indicating that.
At Eli's words, Corrine turned to him trying to figure out what he was talking about. And when she saw his eyes were looking at the ceiling, she to agree with him that it indeed was a sight one can never get tired off. "Even after all this time, I still find myself entranced by it" she admitted with a small smile. When he asked her where they were sitting, she had pointed to the ravenclaw table which was to their left and she proceeded to move there. She then picked up a place enough for the duo to settle down and looking at him she said with an amused smile "welcome to the table of intellects."

THINKING OF HIS MOTHER WAS NEVER ADVISED of late. Since her disappearance any memory Eli did have of his mother was tainted. He couldn't remember the good times without being reminded of the bad. No-Maj movies had been 'the good times', but he didn't dwell on the subject long. Smiling when Corrine admitted she used to like the movie. "Me, too." And no more was said of it.
Walking toward the Great Hall, Eli was excited to see how different the Ravenclaw table would be. However, underneath it was a wrinkle of anxiety. He wondered how he would be received. Not entirely academic and a bit of a rambler. He laughed at her reply, nodding. "I'm chatty, okay?" He said in faux defence. "I can't help it!" In honesty, he hadn't exactly tried.
Talking of his brother was easy. Not that he often struggled with much. "He's a fifth year." He revealed, listening on as Corrine listed her own family. "Ah, then you'd have the whole set!" He said with a small laugh. He couldn't say the same about his family. His two older sister's were graduates of Ilvermorny and there wasn't any possibility of any younger. You needed two parents for that.
He was just jesting with her about her vibe, but at least she seemed to catch on. Laughing alongside him. "Can't say the same," He joked, curious by nature, but only when it came to subjects he truly cared about. "Nothing wrong with a bit of mystery, I say." He quirked his brows and pursed his smiling mouth. As for intimidating, he wondered if he should stick to it, but instead shrugged. "I think you could be." He reasoned, though he was still smiling. "Smart people tend to be." That, Eli had found, was true.
Walking in the the Great Hall, Eli hadn't been able to stop himself rambling about the ceiling. He turned as she replied, finding her just as enthralled, luckily enough. Eli followed her to their appointed seats, grabbing the table's edge as he slipped him. A small laugh erupted from his chest as she declared it the table of intellects. He wafted imaginary vapours using his hands. "I feel smarter already!" He said, closing his eyes and breathing deeply through his nose. The smell of hot food and buttery drinks filled his nostrils. He helped himself to a new plateful.
@corrine no worries at all!

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] Passing by the end of cold winter until the spring day comes again
When Eli dropped the subject of muggle movies with a casual comment, Corrine too chose not to speak about it further. At times she feels a bit happy at the thought of talking baout things she likes to do in the muggel world, but refrains from mentioning them in the fear that someone would judge her for it. While that might not have faltered her before, with the way the wizardign world was now she felt better to be calm.
As they made their way to the table, she heard him laugh at her comment and she was glad that he was someone who woasn ot going to take offense to what she said. But then again not many would find that offensive given the context and her smile which would put her intentions out in the open. Turning to look at him she said "and it is a good thing" and then added "I like to talk too, so you hear no complaints from me". And it was true, Cor liked to talk when in the company of a right person. And she had observed that Eli was fun to talk to.
When he mentioned that his brother was a fifth year, she nodded and said "ooh that's great, he'll be writing his owls? "she said the last part more like a question than a statement. She had not known what the Ilvermony students would do when it came to their exams. She had not thought much about those stuff at all. At his comment, she gave a nod and said "yeah, we would've been. There are a few sets of siblings who are sorted into all the four houses and a lot of them are in any three of the houses".
At his joking comment, Corrine too found herself laughing with him. She can't say that she was not happy with his answer and said "well, there is nothing wrong about it of course, but I like to be in the know, just an uneasy feeling I get when I don't know something". As he pegged her to be a smart person, she gave a shrug and said "well I hope am not scaring you away"and gave a grin.
Corrine found herself greatly amused when she saw what Eli was doing. She could not stop herself from not laughing and in the end she did the same. She looked at him and asked"well how do you feel?" She began to add in some food into her plate and started to dig in. She turned to look at him and asked "so how are lunches and dinners back at Ilvermony? Are they as loud and boisterous as here?"

AT THE VERY LEAST, CORRINE DIDN'T APPEAR PUT off by Eli's incessant chatter. He'd never quite figured out how to censor himself and some didn't mind, but some definitely did. Corrine was a happy former, and it only made Eli chat all the more.
"Yeah," Eli said, though he didn't have the same enthusiasm about OWL's as Corrine. That hadn't been his first thought about his brother moving in to fifth year. "He'll boss them, too." Eli declared proudly, because Atticus had always been smart and dedicated where Eli was not.
"Not yet," Eli said with a crooked grin. He was joking of course. There was no way she'd scare him off now. Unless her entire personality did a 180. But, he found it funny that she was playing along.
"I feel great!" Eli said, opening his eyes with a smile. He'd made her laugh, and that pleased him. Eli always liked making people laugh. Shoving a forkful of chicken in to his mouth, Eli chewed thoughtfully as he considered Corrine's question. He answered after swallowing, "Good, I guess." He hadn't really thought about it at length. "I used to just grab food and head out at lunch." Twirling his fork around in his hand he kissed his teeth. "Haven't figured out how to do that here yet."

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] Passing by the end of cold winter until the spring day comes again Corrine felt herself smiling at his words, and she was actually quite happy that the transfer students have been great to talk to. Truth be told she had expected them to be spiteful and unhappy given that they had to leave their own school and come over to Hogwarts. They even had been resorted and while some were taking it all in stride, some did not as far as she heard. When he commented that she did not scare him, she chuckled and said “yet being the keyword”. It would not surprise her if he thought that she was a know-it-all, and left her for some better company. After all it would not be the first time Corrine had heard people say that she was scarily informed of everything going around. Given that knowledge, it was easy for her to be a prefect.
As Corrine began to eat her own dinner, she waited for him to answer back in his own time. She picked up a potato with her fork and was playing with it as she ate when she heard him speak up. She nodded at his words a little, trying to understand the school, and said “so you didn’t have to sit together like we do here?” As he mentioned about wanting to do it here, she shrugged a little and said “I don’t know about it, but then again the kitchen elves would be more than happy to give you something to eat. Don’t know if that offer extends to lunch as well”. She knew that it was not the type of information she should’ve given out that easily, but there was the fact that he does not know where the kitchen was and how to access it. She smiled at the thought of teasing the other guy with the information.

ELI'S FOREHEAD WRINKLED AS HIS BROWS HIKED up in surprise. "Well, well..." He said with a smirk. He hadn't expected that from her, but he only found it funny. "Guess we'll just have to wait and see," He smirked, shaking his head. He didn't think she could be scary, but then again he'd been wrong before.
Sitting at the bustling table, he forked food in to his mouth with enthusiasm. It was almost like a Thanksgiving feast. Food sprawled all over, the kind of thing you'd only ever have on an occasion like that. He loved it all. Tilting his head so-so, Eli thought about what to say. "Well..." He began, a secret smile causing crescent creases to form at the curl of his lips. "It's advised." He said vaguely. He wasn't supposed to take his food, he couldn't be trusted. But he did it anyway.
Scooting sideways, Eli felt animated by the possibility of extending his Ilvermorny traditions to Hogwarts. "Really?" He said hopefully, wondering just how he could petition to the kitchen elves. "How would I go about doing that?" His brain was already turning. His dorm room was close to the kitchen's. He had that on good authority...
