STANDING BEFORE A WAVING CACTUS, Eli was well and truly entertained. The Hufflepuff Common Room was a cosy, warmly lit room with a low ceiling and little porthole windows. Eli thought it was quite ridiculous that everything was colour coded, but that he didn't mind a little ridiculousness. He tilted his head, snickering quietly as he waved his hand and the potted cactus waved a bent, prickly limb back at him.
It was late, almost everyone had retreated to their dorm rooms to hunker down and sleep. But, Eli had stayed up until long after the fire faded to a few flickering embers. He wasn't the only one. There were a few stragglers, most huddled in armchairs and cushions. All doing their own thing. Eli wasn't ready to sleep, he thought he might never sleep again. His body a wind-up toy, spun tight with tension.
Just as he reached out to run the pad of his finger against the clinging spines of the cactus, Eli spotted a familiar silhouette coming out of the boy's dormitory. It was Wyatt. Pulling away from the cactus, Eli crossed the room rapidly and tugged on Wyatt's sleeve. They'd barely had a chance to talk. With the feast, and the sorting and the buddy system interfering.
"Hey!" He said, a little too loudly at first. He cleared his throat and dipped his head. "Sit with me for a bit?" He asked, a shade higher than a whisper, but smiling at his friend. "Can't sleep."

It was certainly an adjustment, there were so many things that were different to what he was used to and even in their dorms it seemed a little strange as he had tried to wind down and get at least some sleep. But his body didn't agree and he could almost feel his inner wolfs restlessness. With a sigh he figured it was going to be one of those nights - they happened sometimes and not always around the full moon, sometimes his wolf was just restless and needed to do something. At Ilvermorny that usually resulted in a late night work - or a late night adventure if he wasn't alone. A small smile tugged at his lips as he shook his head and decided to head down to the Common Room, he was sure he'd find something to amuse himself with down there. The Common Room was comfortable, it was warm and comforting - if not a little odd in some places, it made him wonder what the other Common Rooms were like. Were they all this comforting and almost... homely? He was pulled from his thoughts as his wolf picked up a familiar presence, the fact that his Wolf knew his friends by their presence alone was something that still to this day amused him slightly. He could count on one hand the people who didn't - or rather couldn't - surprise him anymore. Eli was one of those for sure as he felt the tug on his sleeve and followed his tugging without question. "Hey Eli, can't sleep?" He questioned, already nodding as he moved to sit down in one of the comfortable chairs that the Common Room had, "Yeah - I'm having the same issue," He gave a slight wave of his hand, "I've been... restless." He added on, that was a word Eli and Zeke had come to know as meaning it wasn't him restless but rather his Wolf. "So - what were you doing with that cactus?" The blonde raised his eyes, glancing towards the waving Cactus curiously. Elijah Theron Fleming

THE FACT THAT WYATT DIDN'T QUESTION HIS RAPID APPEARANCE WAS NOT A SURPRISE. Eli had often tried to jump out on his friend. Sneak up on him, or generally just try and scare him. To no avail. Though the whole 'werewolf' business seemed a bit of a hassle, Eli could use his reflexes. If he did maybe he wouldn't bump in to people as often.
They moved toward a chaise lounge, of which Eli knew the name of only because of his mother. He let Wyatt have the high back and slumped on the end, sprawling an arm along the back and slowly dragging a puffy footstool over using only his toes. All the while he listened absently to what Wyatt was saying. Eli simply couldn't sleep because he was excited. It seemed an entirely different scenario for Wyatt and he felt silly for not seeing it sooner. Halting the footstool progress, Eli shifted closer.
"Sh- what day is it?" He muttered, looking down at his wrist for a watch he wasn't wearing. "Are you- is it almost?" Looking around secretively, Eli bobbed his head and raised his brows in a 'you-know' kind of look. He didn't dare say it aloud, unsure if it was something Wyatt wanted potentially broadcast around the common room. It was one of the only topics that Eli flexed caution on.
Leaning over to give Wyatt a moment to think, Eli pulled the footstool the rest of the way over and thumped both feet on top, his little toe sticking out of a hole in his mismatched socks. As for the cactus, Eli was only too happy to tell. "Oh man, they wave!" He declared in a hushed but enthusiastic voice. His grin wild. "I don't know what kind of species it is, but it's an active one." Eli's eyes drew over to the gently swaying plant, shaking his head. "I love Hufflepuff..." He sighed. Though it wasn't Gryffindor, where Brigh had been placed - a familiar face. At least he had Wyatt and Zeke! Just like Ilvermorny.

It had been years since Eli had actually managed to surprise Wyatt. A fond and long running joke between the boys that Wyatt could 'smell' him nearby. While Eli didn't actually know it - Wyatt could sometimes actually smell the other boy, and as much as Wyatt liked Eli and trusted him, he hadn't actually admitted that outloud yet. Instead he simply spoke of being able to sense him nearby, always knowing when Eli - and Zeke even were nearby. If not for his being a werewolf, he was almost certain the other boy would make him crazy jumpy with how often he tried to scare him. Instead - it was often Wyatt managing to surprise the other boys. Much to his own amusement at least. He had no idea what kind of couch this was but, damn it was comfy! Eli didn't do more than give a light sigh as he sat back in it, pulling his feet up and lightly nudging Eli's side with his foot before grinning at the other boy, "Chill E." He spoke lightly, tilting his head back against the straight back, "Just under two weeks left I think," he couldn't help but smile though, knowing his friend was being careful of what he said. He still remembered when he found out Eli had worked out his 'secret', but not once since then had Wyatt regretted telling him the truth. Speaking of the truth though, "I don't know how people at Hogwarts feel about.. that stuff.." the blonde boy gave a small shrug, he knew things regarding werewolves were different in different places. Even back home some weren't accepting and more than once he had issues because of it. His legs stretch out, his feet almost on Eli's lap as he gives a surprised laugh as Eli's face practically lights up as he talks about the Cactus waving at him, "Eli promise me you won't go and steal it and hide it in our room..." he raised his eyes, amusement clear on his own face. Although honestly he wasn't going to put it past Eli, he might have to keep an eye on his friend. "I'm just glad we're here together - I can't imagine not sharing a dorm with you and Zeke, plus - I won't have to sneak around as much." It would make the full moon a little easier knowing he could trust his friends to help him out and avoid any house mates asking questions. Elijah Theron Fleming

THE WORD CHILL WASN'T EXACTLY IN ELI'S REPERTOIRE. People often assumed his occasional carelessness was part of his presumed chill demeanour, but Eli was naturally restless. A ball of poorly managed energy that was often directed in the entirely wrong places. Like skipping school, avoiding homework. His mom used to say that if he applied that energy to his school work he'd be a genius. Eli disagreed, but he took it as a compliment anyway.
"I... am chill," Eli said with a laugh and a shake of his head, nostrils flaring as he shove Wyatt's leg playfully and thumped his feet on the footstool. "Are you taking your elixir thing?" He asked soberly, leaning his body against the backrest so that he could slump as far down as humanly possible without falling off the seat. "I can ask around if you want?" He told Wyatt, not at all hindered by the prospect of some reconnaissance. "Get the low-down on who's cool, who isn't." He made a joke out of it, waving his hands around as if he were a spy. But the last thing Eli ever wanted was Wyatt to suffer for something he couldn't control.
Poking Wyatt's encroaching toe near Eli's hip, he rapidly lifted his head when he was warned not to steal the cordial cactus. His mouth opened, eyes wide. Wyatt had given him a brilliant idea. "I will not," He said while nodding, making no promises for something that was most definitely happening in the coming days. That cactus was coming with him. He turned on to his side and flopped his head against the cushioned back, curling in his little space like a dog before a fire.
"Me too, dude." He sighed sleepily, blinking heavy eyes. It was late after all. He patted Wyatt's leg before folding his arm around his middle. The common room was easy sleeping warm. "We got your back," He told his friend, an everlasting truth.

Wyatt after so many years of knowing Eli, he knew the boy almost better than he knew himself. And honestly, he adored the other boy simply because of what he was like - Eli was true to himself, whatever that meant really. He was still himself and that in itself was a wonderful thing, at least most of the time - it could land Eli - and even himself into trouble sometimes. But Eli never treated him different even after finding out his 'secret' - well other than asking how he was and stuff, but that was just caring - that alone though - meant more than Wyatt could ever tell his friend. "Of course you are - the chillest of chill." Wyatt grinned, quickly laughing at the shoving of his leg, "Yeah - Yeah." He nodded slightly, "Yes I am taking it.. it still taste like crap." His nose wrinkled slightly as he pulled a face, giving a slight shiver at the memory of the flavor, really - he wondered why no one had tried to make it taste any better after being used for so long. "You think you can do that?" He was tempted to take up his friend with that offer, asking around and getting a feel to how they felt. "I don't really know though - do you think that would work? Not that I'm planning on telling anyone though..." he shook his head, he didn't really feel a need to tell anyone else - having his friends and his family know was honestly enough to leave Wyatt happy with how things were. His eyes narrowed slightly as he looked back at Eli, raising his eyes after a moment. He had a feeling Eli was now plotting exactly what he said not to do. "Eli..." he muttered the name, staring his friend down for a moment. Finally giving a small sigh as he shook his head, "We're going to have a pet cactus in our dorm aren't we...?" The question came out with another sigh as he simply leaned back, chuckling when he looked back at Eli now curled up. And it was meant to be Wyatt who was part 'wolf'. "In another life you had to be a dog..." "I know Mate. You're the best." He reached out, patting the other boy as he sat up a little, tilting his head slightly, "You gonna fall asleep on me now?" Wyatt gave a slight chuckle before leaning back, shifting slightly as he got comfortable on his end, actually it was calming down here, and warm - plus the comforting presence of the other boy was making it far easier to drift off. ELI HAD NO TROUBLE ACCEPTING WYATT'S WORD when he told him he was of course taking his potion. The boy trusted his friend without question, their loyalty an agreed upon fact. In fact, Eli couldn't remember a single time he hadn't been comfortable accepting his word. So, he simply shrugged.
"What do you think would happen if I took it?" He mused, thinking about the reviled Wolfsbane potion his friend was required to consume daily. "I know I've said it before, but like... I really wanna know." They do say curiosity killed the cat, but Eli couldn't help himself. It was almost as if... he felt left out, not being able to relate to the fact that it was disgusting.
As for asking around, it went without saying. "Worth a try..." He reasoned, pouting his lips. "No rush, bro." He shook his head, feeling the desire to settle whatever was worming in Wyatt. "It doesn't matter what they think anyway." Eli knew this was easier said than done, but he'd always thought that the less he cared, the more likely it was that Wyatt wouldn't either. It wasn't completely fool proof, but he liked it.
Quickly, however, Eli's thoughts were consumed by all the ways he could discreetly squirrel away the waving cactus in his dorm. They could make a game of it 'steal the cactus'. Sounded hilarious to him. He'd wait to confer to Zeke, though in his mind it was already a settled upon fact. "I mean, you said it, not me..." Eli said evasively, widening his eyes innocently and averting his gaze as he refrained from laughing.
Curled up comfortably, Eli pretended to close his eyes, opening one to stare at Wyatt. "Maybe so..." He said simply, stopping to yawn in an exaggerated manner. "If I was, I got screwed second time over," He remarked with a sleepy laugh.
All curled up in the warmth and low light, Eli could have just slipped off to sleep. Humming quietly at Wyatt's words. "We're the best," He said with a half-hearted smirk. Too comfortable to retire to bed, and maybe too afraid he'd lose that thread of peacefulness if he did. "No..." He said unconvincingly, wiggling deeper in to the cushions. And sure enough, he drifted off.

There were few things that Wyatt ever forgot to do. While sometimes he'd get even so distracted doing something at night he'd somehow forget to sleep - he'd always remember to take his potion when he had to do so. Since he first had it, as tiny as he was and as much as he hated the foul taste of it - he knew it was important even back then. So even now he was older and he still hated the taste of the thing, he still remembered to take it - partly due to not wanting to find out what would happen to him if he did forget. Eli's question made Wyatt look up a little confused, he had heard the question before - and honestly, Wyatt still didn't have a clue what the results of that idea would have - his nose scrunching as he shook his head, "I dunno - maybe simply nothing.. I mean, there isn't really something he could do right?" He paused, shaking his head after a moment, "But.. as much as you wanna know, I don't think I'd want to risk it - I like you too much." Wyatt stuck his tongue out, shifting slightly as he tilted his head back against the chair. "But if you really want to know what it tastes like.. we could sneak to the kitchens one day and I could try and make something equally as foul and gross tasting for you.." His lips curled into a mischievious little grin as he peered back at his friend. Wyatt had always been wary and unsure, in his past experiences people finding out what he was - hadn't ended too well. Honestly Eli and Zeke had been two of very few people to react well.. nicely, to finding out about what Wyatt's condition was. Even though he was older and he could handle the fall out much better than when he was younger, there would always be apart of Wyatt that would be afraid, some part of him that would always be unsure about how someone would react. "I know, no matter what they think - I still got you around, even if you're full of crazy ideas and an infatuation with some plant.." His voice teased again, amused as he shook his head. Even when he let himself get sucked in with his worries - Eli still somehow managed to distract him and make him feel better. He was fairly sure the two of them would end up camping out right here for the rest of the night, neither of them would likely make it back up to their dorm, but while he was fairly sure that Eli was close to drifting away to sleep. Wyatt was still fighting the restlessness in his body, "Ahh I could totally imagine you as some hyper little pup running around and stealing peoples shoes.." His lips quirked, totally wondering now. If Eli became an Animagus would it totally be a dog? He'd totally place a bet on that, with the small mannerisms and Quirks his friend had - not to mention the unwavering loyalty. He kind of approved of the idea. Shaking himself from his thoughts he couldn't help the fond little grin - seeing Eli had totally drifted off, Wyatt moved carefull, pulling his legs close to himself as he leaned over, tugging one of the warm blankets hung over the couch before dropping it over his friend. Wyatt was content to sit and enjoy the silent but comforting company as he reached for a book someone left nearby, it was just some old school book but it was enough to distract him for now. He knew sleep wouldn't be coming for him any time soon but he'd happily let his friend sleep. Elijah Theron Fleming

IT INTRIGUED ELI TO NO END. THE MYSTERY OF the notoriously disgusting elixir. He hadn't heard of a single werewolf on record not remarking on its incredibly distinct flavour. Wyatt's offer was met with a belly laugh, one Eli stifled behind his hand. "God, yes please!" He exclaimed, squeezing his eyes shut and shaking his head. "That'd be funny." He thought of them all bundled in to the kitchen, snickering like pre-schoolers. "Zeke can be our lookout."
Though Eli would have happily vetted every student in Hogwarts to weed out the intolerant, he didn't push his friend to 'come out' so to speak. And it was true, it didn't matter. Not when he and Zeke would always have his back. "Exactly," He retorted, pointing a finger at his friend and wiggling it. "And hey, who knows, if someone has a problem..." Flashing wide, trouble-making eyes, Eli pointed his thumb behind him where the cactus sat. "Maybe we can teach the cactus to flip the bird..." With a severe nod, Eli's lips pulled up at one side.
There was no offence taken to being compared to a dog. Eli found the idea quite hilarious actually. And maybe appealing as well. "I mean, is that really so different from me now?" Eli chuckled, his mouth open in a lazy smile. He yawned half way through talking, "alli'mmissing... is a tail." Though he didn't know if he fancied a tail he still laughed at the thought.
Soon enough though, Eli had drifted off. As he fell in to a sleep, he snored softly. A short, open mouthed sniffle that wasn't quite loud enough to draw any stares. In this state Eli was at his stillest. Free of the restless energy that seemed to follow him in waking hours. He didn't know quite how long he lay napping, but eventually his eyes blinked open. Mouth dry and body stiff. The firelight in the room had dimmed even further and it took Eli's eyes a moment to adjust.
He'd fallen asleep facing Wyatt, and as his eyes settled he made out his friend's shape at the end of the sofa. Still awake, propped up with a book in his lap. "You're still up..?" Eli said gruffly, voice filled with sleep. He smacked dry lips, shifting to sit a little more upright. His eyes squinted, cheek creased from where he'd lay on the sleeve of his sleep shirt. "Was I out long?" They were the only two left in the common room by then. The others having retired to their rooms. He reckoned he'd dozed for at least an hour. Eli could sleep just about anywhere.

Wyatt knew that his friend was extremely curious about the elixir that Wyatt had to take so often, it was far from the first time that they had, had a conversation much like this one. No matter how Wyatt tried to describe the flavor - the horrid taste of it, Eli was still always just as curious. So maybe Wyatt had thought of a few ideas, including the one where he tries to make something at least close to it, "Alright then, we'll do it." He grinned, lightly chuckling at his friends reaction, if Eli wanted to do it - Wyatt would go along with it, "Yeah we'll have to plan it out, but 'm sure Zeke will be cool with playing as look out - I doubt he wants to taste the foulness." Wyatt laughed, shaking his head slightly. Honestly he considered himself lucky that his friends were willing to do somethiing like this for him, perhaps there was a little protectiveness about it, but Wyatt was more than happy to accept it. He liked that Zeke and Eli had his back and were willing to back him up, but the addition of adding the cactus that his friend seemed so fond of was something new. And Eli's suggestion sent a shaking laughter through the blonde boy, "You're gonna teach it to flip people off?!" His question was a little incredulous and very much filled with amusement. Honestly it shouldn't surprise him - if anyone could teach cactus to do that, he was sure it would be Eli. Eli could very well have been a dog in a past life, it would make sense and really - when he glanced at his friend drifting off, really the only thing missing was the tale - and fur he supposed. He shook his head, chuckling as he watched his friend sleep - carefully making sure the blanket covered Eli - even if he was in what Wyatt considered one of the most uncomfortable positions EVER, he seemed okay and that was a comforting thought for him. He wasn't sure how much time passed but Wyatt found himself enjoying the transfiguration book he had picked up. Everyone else had gone off to bed, leaving just the two boys alone in the Common Room. It had been quiet, so the sudden question off to his side where Eli had drifted off - actually surprised him a little. With quickly blinking eyes he looks back at Eli, offering a small smile and a shrug, "Yeah - I couldn't sleep - did you have a good nap?" Wyatt chuckled, shrugging his shoulders as he looks around, "A couple hours I'd guess - its just us here now, everyone else is back in their dorms." Elijah Theron Fleming

ELI ROLLED HIS EYES PLAYFULLY AT THE IDEA OF Zeke ever agreeing to guinea pig. There friend was smart. Eli was more the staple of that position. The taster and a bit of a troublemaker. "Yeah, I doubt it too." He said with a small laugh. And as for teaching a cactus to flip people off, well Eli had only said it to be funny, but a part of him felt thrilled at the idea of it. "Maybe..." He said with a devilish look in his eyes.
Though, it faded as quickly as it came as Eli was asleep before he even knew what was happening. Confused when he awoke to find his friend as lucid as he had been when he'd first drifted off. Eli rubbed at his tired eyes, pulling hands up to ruffle his hair as he fought the grogginess. "Wasn't bad." He mumbled, voice stiff and crackled. "Why didn't you sleep?" Eli asked, turning to face his friend in the dark. "Something wrong?" A wrinkle of concern formed between his brows, eyes still squinting with sleep.

The idea of Zeke agreeing to be the guinea pig was rather funny, as nice as he was - there were a few things that he wouldn't do. And Zeke was a bright one who wouldn't allow such a thing. Besides Eli seemed to enjoy being the one to test things out for them when it was needed. It was almost a wonder why Eli didn't end up in Gryffindor with his little brother - but, he supposed Eli's loyalty was what pushed him over to Hufflepuff, not that Wyatt would complain - he had been more than relieved to end up in the same house as his friends again, it wouldn't have been the same without Eli at his side. He enjoyed his company too much to allow them to be seperated. Particularly these little plans of teaching cactus's to flip people off or simply just pinching it and keeping it in their dorm - only Eli would actually go through with such things and be proud of doing them. He shook his head from the thoughts, glancing over at his friend who had now awoken from his un-planned sleep, chuckling softly at the sleep tousiled look - his friends hair was a mess but clearly he was still in that realm of still waking up, "Couldn't calm my mind I guess." Wyatt shrugged, offering a small smile - he still didn't feel really tired. Maybe it was restlessness but, Wyatt could feel - his wolf wasn't settled - perhaps his body was adjusting still - a new country meant new time-zone and it might take awhile for his internal clock to adjust and that would be without the wolf adjusting to the new enviroment. This thought made him frown a little, but he didn't want Eli to worry so he gave a slight shrug, offering another smile, "I'll be okay El, you know sometimes sleep escapes me." Elijah Theron Fleming

IT REALLY DIDN'T MATTER THAT WYATT ASSURED Eli that he'd be alright. He still worried, a wrinkle between his sleep brows. Though he knew his friend was being as honest as he could be, Eli still worried that he wasn't being honest with himself. He would never fully understand the unique workings of his friends mind, and while that was a frustrating thought, he respected that.
"I know it does," Eli said, curling one leg under himself as he looked at his friend deeply. In his sleepy state, Eli was a little more observant than he usually was. That restless energy taking its own time to awaken. "You can talk to me about it, you know that, right?" Eli said softly, the low lighting in the empty common room making him feel like he should whisper. He scooted closer to do so and hear in return. "Tell me what's on your mind." He nudged Wyatt's leg with his curled fist gently, managing a dopey smile.

Honestly, Wyatt should have known by now. After going onto Seven years together, Eli knew him so well that brushing something off - it really had no chance of working. Not when it came to his best friends, tired or not - Eli knew when something was going on in Wyatt's head. There was no hiding it, at least not for very long. Even if he was being honest, he was still not saying something, and Eli knew that - perhaps it was wyatt just simply lying to himself. Was that even something that was possible? Knowing himself - and how his mind liked to mess with him, it probably was. He was shifting slightly, fiddling with the book and glancing back at Eli, a tiny tug of a frown just beginning to appear. But he heard the lightly spoken words and his shoulders relaxed even as he was lost a little within his own thoughts. "I know Eli..I know." He spoke back, tilting his head back as he closed the book and placed it on the small table beside the couch. Glancing briefly at Eli to give a small smile of his own, before slowly looking back up, "I just... while I feel okay and more or less settled.. not all of me is." He paused here, avoiding looking anywhere but up at the ceiling. " Part of me... isn't adjusting to England as well as the rest of me is." Elijah Theron Fleming

THOUGH ELI WAS NOT PRONE TO PRYING, IT WAS different with Wyatt. They'd known each other so long that 'secrets' was a loose term. As in, if Eli knew, Wyatt and Zeke knew too. That was the basis of their friendship. Other than undeniable loyalty, there was a lot of oversharing. But, it was the kind of thing Eli had always needed. So, when he asked Wyatt what was wrong, it was second nature to be concerned.
He watched his friend put away his book, seeming to mull over his question before deciding to answer. Eli could wait, his patience was a fleeting thing, but not when it came to Wyatt's fragile comfort. "Hmm," Eli hummed, pulling his brows together in thought as he bit on his lips. "Well... there's totally stuff we can do to fix that." Eli scooted closer still, shifting Wyatt's legs under they were partially over his crossed one. "We could go for runs around campus, or- or walk the entire perimeter." His face began to morph in to a grin. "We'll get him used to this place, easy!"
