Vik absolutely loved scouting missions. Being able to do them all on his own due to his animagus ability was his favorite part. He could slip in, usually unseen, wherever he wanted and scope out their next job without anyone being the wiser. There was no need for videocameras or tech that the muggle thieves used, all he needed was to stick to the shadows. Besides that, he was quite adept at not being noticed. Spending a few years on the streets helped substantially with that.
Today he was checking out a mansion. It practically looked like a castle from the outside. The instant he snuck up, he realized why Rai wanted to make this their next score. There was no doubt about the fact that there would be plenty of antiquities inside. The hard part was going to be trying to figure out which items they should go for first. If it was an easy job, they might return again in a while.
The first issue would be getting inside. By some stroke of luck, he found a window on the first floor and slipped in through that, keeping to the corners of the first room as he glanced around. It seemed like no one was anywhere to be seen, which was definitely a good thing. The only issue was, seeing what exactly was in the room was difficult being so short. He quickly jumped on top of a very expensive-looking couch with wood on the edges so he could get a better vantage point. The first thing he saw was a tea set made entirely out of silver. It looked incredible. He felt the corners of his lips quirk up. Sure, it'd look weird if anyone saw a fox smiling, but no one was around so it was fine. He saw a few empty picture frames and decided to move to another room.
Everything was still too tall for him to see from the ground, so Vik froze for a moment, quirking his ears as he listened carefully. It didn't sound like anything was in the house, so he transformed into himself, taking plastic gloves out of a pocket as he stared around this room, his eyes wide. There was a mantle with ancient roman coins displayed on it. Nearby a display of onyx spheres ... yeah nine of them. What in the world? This person was definitely much more wealthy than he expected and Vik felt a grin cover his features. At least they appreciated their wealth and enjoyed it. It seemed like everything he saw was evidence of their wealth. China vases, expensive-looking furniture. This was great. Vik slowly walked over to the case with the spheres and ever-so-gently removed one from its position, inspecting it carefully. This alone would be worth a small fortune.

Finally having a functional mansion for the Dread Father Coven to inhabit was a massive relief. Months of seeking the right place with the right single elderly owner with few-to-no heirs and an easily redrafted will, followed by selling the estate to herself from one identity to another... had all been tedious and exhausting. Acquiring the proper soil and careful coffin transplantation of her current few disciples had just been completed, as well as adjusting/emptying many of the artworks around the mansion to someday soon better fit the desired aesthetic.
Evie was proud of her beloved disciples, the twins: Moira and Corwin Bishop. Their help in accomplishing all of this was truly priceless. And tonight, they were to celebrate by binge-drinking their fill across the necks of many unsuspecting victims from nearby estates and homes. However, just as they had come home, fluttering in as bats through an attic window, they were met with a strange smell of something alive and moving around the mansion. Silently, the three resumed their human forms and went to investigate.
At first, there was a four-footed clacking -akin to a dog's footsteps- upon the hardwood floor, followed by the slow, methodical steps of a person. From their perch, high upon the ceiling, the three vampires watched as a young man -seemingly only just entering his twenties- inspecting the recently installed onyx spheres. Of course, they understood that they were mundane spheres of polished onyx that were to soon be enchanted to tell how many coven members were in or out of the mansion at any given time, but the young man -apparently a thief- probably only saw value in selling them off for artistic value.
Evie rolled her eyes and silently made a quick succession of hand gestures to the twins. They nodded in understanding and all three vanished into the darkness.
Two whispers echoed from the shadows, bouncing around the room,
"L'a(L'appel)ppel... d(du)u... vi(vide)de..."
The two voices sounded at once, moira's sharper whisper a moment delayed from Corwin's low, rumbling breath. A long few moments of silence passed before a gust of wind blew through the room and nearby halls, and -from the shadows- a third voice came,
"Damn. I thought I was the only one who knew about this hangout spot." Evie strolled out of the shadows and into the moonlit room, dressed like a 19 year old punk with some mild Gothic elements tossed in for good measure. She walked up toward the young man and then drifted past with a casual, meandering gait.
"They'll never believe I ran into a boy squatting here too."

The spheres were truly impressive. They were entirely smooth and carefully shaped. Someone definitely spent a lot of time and energy making each one of them perfect. Vik couldn’t help but grin as he looked at the one in his hands before carefully leaning forward to place it back in its original position. He was careful to make sure there were no signs that he’d picked it up. No sooner had he let go of the piece of art than he started hearing something soft. It sounded like … whispering? He frowned, turning to look around himself. He didn’t see anyone around him and he couldn’t understand the words, if they actually were words. Maybe it was just the wind? He shrugged his shoulders and was about to move on when suddenly wind filled the room and someone spoke. Crap.
Vik instantly smiled, knowing the importance of confidence. He normally could talk his way out of tough situations. People had a tendency to trust those who knew what they were doing. He turned to face the girl. “This is a hangout spot?” he asked easily, taking her in with a quick glance. “I’m not hanging out … just checking things out. I have a habit of exploring places I probably shouldn’t.” He shrugged his shoulders, pretending like it was no big deal that he was here. “Don’t worry, I’m not planning on staying. I’ll keep your secret.” Vik gave an easy wink, hoping the girl would be fine with it all. He didn’t really want to have to hide and run out of here, though he could do that in an instant if necessary. No, he didn’t need to think like this, it would all be fine.

Evie did take note that the intruder had put the onyx sphere back in place. Really, she'd hate having to get it replaced before the appointment with her enchanter contact this coming week. That guy was a busy fellow with places to be and people to kill, so scoring this appointment had been nothing short of good luck.
She watched as the young man smiled and began to play off of the information she had fed him. Instead of keeping her apparent attention on him the whole time, she meandered around the room, never staying in the same place for very long, nor keeping her head facing him at all times. Instead, she was opting for listening rather than watching, and her ears told her that this guy was pretty good at this. His confidence was immediately apparent, and he wasted no time in turning to face her. Finally, he gave her a wink. It was almost adorable.
"Haven't you heard?" she asked, pausing in one spot a bit to look him up and down. She smiled, trying to play off of the wink. He was actually kinda handsome. Not even close to a long-term prospect, but he had the makings of quick snack material. Evie stayed in place, swinging her arms back and casually catching one in the other behind her. "The old man here died. We've got maybe a few days before the whole thing gets auctioned. This could be the last time it's ever like this." Evie chuckled, looking around the room a bit.
She tilted her head a bit and looked back at the young intruder, eyes peering into his. "It would be nice to have company," Evie slowly moved a little closer to him. "exploring the last moments of the former owner's life before someone else wipes it all away... Sorta like exploring a place and a person when we shouldn't." Evie's smile turned a little mischievous.
"You should stay a little, friend," she said, her words coming out smooth and silky. Evie stopped maybe a meter away from the guy. She settled on a quirky, but simple go-to name for this performance. Something that just fit the well, of course it is bill. "My name's Kat. What's yours?"

The girl was talking around the room, glancing around almost as if she were inspecting it like he'd been moments before. Then again, there was a kind of confidence about her that he found very intriguing. Something was different about this girl, though Vik honestly had no idea what it was.
He quirked an eyes brow at her as she asked if he'd heard. Heard what. He shook his head, still smiling at her but not really feeling the need to speak yet. That seemed more like a rhetorical question than anything, so Vik was willing to wait for her to continue. He made a face when she did. "Well that's no good. How can I hang out here if people are going to be swarming the place?" Sure. Pretend like that's all he wanted her. Though honestly ... knowing this was pretty important, especially if he had a mind to grab any of these items while he had the chance. He and Rai would have to do it soon.
She continued, saying that it would be nice to have company and Vik found himself smiling just a little bit as she stepped closer. "That definitely sounds like fun," he said, not committing himself even though he already knew what he wanted to do, explore the place. He wanted to see more of this mansion and it seemed that he'd need to do so with the girl if he intended to at all. That did not sound like a bad idea to him.
Vik finally nodded when she became more specific, encouraging him to stay. "I think I will, thanks." A sly smile crossed his face as she came even nearer but stopped. "I'm Vik," he answered when she introduced herself. It was one thing he loved about his name. It was common enough that it didn't stand out to most people, and it generally didn't get him into trouble to give his real name to people. He glanced around the room. "So where do you want to start, Kat?" He'd let her take the lead, at least for now.

Evie actually liked the kind of smile this Vik wore -especially when she moved closer to him. It made the moments when she turned on her prey that much more enjoyable. From what she could tell in this situation, the boy was either just exploring via bad habit, or he had been attempting to loot the place. Either way, she had a mind to lure him somewhere more remote before scaring him silly (and hopefully far away from the mansion).
Thinking about where her dear Moira and Corwin could follow her from a distance -and still be useful- while keeping Vik's fingers away from getting too sticky around the expensive stuff. There was the garden, of course... yes... the area by the fountain and the unkempt hedges. Some good overgrowth, a pretty stone fountain, and maybe even a good spot to corner the foolish boy. Yes, that was an excellent plan.
Evie smiled a little more warmly, widening her eyes as if to suggest a kind of inspiration.
"Oh!" she said. "I know just the place. On my way in, I noticed a stone fountain amidst a few hedges out back. That would look so cool in the moonlight... as long as there aren't too many leaves mucking it up."
With a quirky little skip, she passed by Vik, getting closer only for a fleeting moment. "C'mon!" she tempted. "It's just this way." Evie did her best to keep an upbeat pace through a hallway and the back study to the doors that led out into the garden area. There, standing high behind two curved rows of hedges in need of a trim, was the old stone fountain. Having hoped to lead him up to at least this point, Evie paused and gestured toward the fountain.
"After you, friend," she prompted, her eyes peering pleasantly into his.

The girl in front of him definitely seemed more the quiet type, but also confident, which was something that Vik definitely found very appealing. He watched her as she seemed to think a moment before smiling as a thought came to her. Vik felt his own smirk widen a bit in anticipation. He loved exploring new places with new people.
She started to describe a place outside where she thought they should start exploring. Vik nodded almost immediately. "That sounds interesting to me," he agreed. Of course, in his fox form he hadn't seen a fountain or paid attention to the hedges. He'd been too focused on trying to figure out how to get inside. Might as well see something new with this one. It would be fun.
She passed him, encouraging him to follow her and Vik did so almost immediately, laughing softly as he walked back out the house. He still saw that the furniture was pretty nice on his way out, but didn't pause since Kat was moving so quickly. He followed her outside and to the fountain, pausing when she did, but continuing when she encouraged him to. "You're right, this is a really unique area. I like it," he commented, moving closer to the fountain and looking at the architecture of it. He chuckled, "These hedges could do with some help though."

As soon as she was behind Vik, Evie felt a gentle tap on either shoulder. Her face suddenly broke into a wide, cruel grin. Her beloved twins were here. She nodded left and right, and the two disapparated away in a quiet puff of wind. Vik said something about the fountain and the hedges, but Evie wasn't listening. Her irises flared from dark to bright, hot red as she slowly strode up behind the intruder. He would have only one chance to fight or flee like hell.
This was the moment that counted...
She began to approach him from behind. With a practiced voice, sweet and gentle like drizzling honey, Evie added,
"I'd hate to waste this moment. The moonlight is so perfect..."
She slid right up behind him, sliding her hands onto the sides of his torso and smoothly around to his abdomen and chest, caressing them slowly. She leaned her lips nearer to his ear.
"And something should be done about that," she softly begged. She held the act for one more moment, sweetly suggesting, "So we're going to skin you alive, thief."
Evie only paused a moment before suddenly withdrawing from the intruder. Her gravity shifted away, she slipped back a few feet, raising her arms toward Vik. Sparks of blueish-white lightning sparked between her fingers. Just as Evie bared her fangs and let out an inhuman screech, Moira and Corwin both burst forth from the hedges behind the fountain, fangs bared wide as they closed in toward Vik.

Vik could sense the girl behind him approaching, though he was a little surprised by her words. He was about to turn when she was holding him from behind. It was more of an intimate gesture than he expected, but that didn't mean he didn't like it. Vik lifted his hands to rest on hers for a moment, smirking when she added that something should be done about the perfect moonlight.
Then his blood chilled. Skin him alive. The next thing he knew, she was gone. Vik spun around, eyes widening. Okay, she wasn't a normal person, which meant it was past time for him to get out of here. She screeched and two others came out of the hedges- where did they come from? Vik shifted instantly into his fox form, scampering through the hedges, running as quickly as he could away from there. He wasn't sure what those creatures were, but he didn't particularly want to fight three at once. So run he did, not stopping or shifting back until he got back to his apartment. He'd find a different place for his next job with Rai.

The cute, yet ultimately foolish thief wasted no time making his escape. In a somewhat surprising move, he showed himself to be a fox animagus, slipping away from the three of them with ease. Evie smirked. How poetic. She admired the boy's talent, but faulted him for not standing his ground. He was not worthy of her further pursuits.
Save for one... Evie laughed aloud and shifted her own form into that of a bat, streaking through the air after the fox. Moira and Corwin followed less directly, heading out to flank. With a chorus of furious screeches, they chased the fox as far as the property line, letting him scurry away to whatever hole he called home. As they flew back to their home, Evie felt satisfied in their efforts to discourage the boy from ever returning.
But he did still get in... Perhaps it was time to reinforce the security.
