timing: Mid November 2024
For some time, Cho had been well aware of her daughter dating someone. She didn't know very much about him. She did seem happier than usual, that was true. But Cho recently found out that he was a musician. A musician. It didn't matter he was from Durmstrang, she had long since forgiven Viktor for his strange behaviour towards Cedric in the tournament. It didn't matter that Rosie seemed to be getting her life a bit more on track now, with her internship at the prophet. As a matter of fact, that was something that worried her a bit. Those reporters had always been rather pesky. But something was better than nothing.
No, it mattered most that he was a musician and probably not a very successful one. Her Rosie needed taking care of, especially since she was no longer a child and everyone knew that journalism made a pittance. So one dreary November day, Cho found herself striding purposefully up to this address. Her long black hair was tied into a neat knot, a woollen scarf covering the lower half of her face. She peered with narrowed eyes at the names of the people in the flats here, and pressed the button for 5L. She was sure Brandon would be home. He was a musician. It was daytime.
Perhaps he was still sleeping.

Things were finally starting to pick up for Brandon. The record label wanted to meet with him in three days and he was supposed to show them some of his new songs then. He was excited about this, but also a little bit nervous. His dreams were riding on what was about to happen in a few days, which would make anyone stress out.
Today he was sitting alone at home. Rosie was working and Karen was also out, though he wasn't sure if she was working or doing something else. Brandon had the apartment to himself and was working on one of his piano pieces. The music was flowing and he charmed his quill to write the notes as he played them, but something was wrong with his melody. There was this one part in the song that wasn't fitting in right. He kept reviewing the measure, trying different chords but nothing was working. Brandon paused, beginning at the beginning and trying again. This was definitely annoying.
Halfway through the song, the doorbell rang. Brandon frowned as he stopped playing and rose to his feet. Who would be coming here in the middle of the day? He walked to the door and opened it, looking out to see a woman standing there. She looked somewhat familiar, but at the same time she didn't. Who was she? Brandon smiled, "Hi, can I help you?"

Each movement Cho ever made was made with purpose. Each decision she made was fulfilled with resolution. Today, she had decided to call on her daughter's boyfriend. It was a shame that she had never met him before. She would have to have words with Rosie about that. Even so, Cho wanted to know why in the name of Merlin her daughter decided to date a musician. Had she, Cho, taught her daughter nothing about standards? About working hard and achieving the best? Though Cho did worry that her drive had not been passed onto her only child, as Rosie had only just taken up an internship at the Daily Prophet. Her heart nearly failed when she found out her daughter would be one of those pesky reporters.
It was daytime, no matter how dreary, so Cho figured that Rosie's boyfriend would be at this flat. She rang the doorbell, and heard piano music cut off abruptly. She pursed her lips. He was home, as she suspected. She crossed her arms, unamused, waiting a few moments before the boyfriend, Brandon, opened the door and greeted her. She appraised him critically, before unfolding her arms and holding out her hand. "Hello, I'm Cho Chang," she said, lowering her scarf from her face with her free hand. "May I come in? Only, I'd like to talk if that's alright." She was mental and she was driven, but she wasn't unfair.

The woman in front of him looked angry, or in the least defensive, which was a surprise to Brandon. He couldn't imagine anyone would come here upset, especially a stranger, but apparently she did. Which made absolutely no sense. He stood there as the woman looked at him for a few seconds before saying a word. Then she extended a hand, introducing herself as Cho Chang. Rosie's mom. His eyes widened before he took her hand, smiling. "Nice to meet you. I'm Brandon, as I'm sure you've guessed." He nodded, pulling the door open and holding for her, gesturing for the woman to enter. "Come on in."
Once she stepped inside, Brandon closed the door behind her and lead her to the main room. He couldn't help but feel relieved that he straightened it up this morning before going to the piano. Everything was in it's place, which he hoped would leave a good impression on the woman. All of a sudden he was a bit nervous. Why did Rosie's mom seem angry? "So what did you want to talk abou- oh wait! Can I get you anything to eat or drink?" he felt like a complete idiot, but he was still trying to make a good impression. Brandon didn't feel comfortable being a host, because he'd never done it before, but he'd do his best.
