He admitted that he was looking for a reason not to study and Kinsey couldn't help but chuckle. He was obviously a pretty open person, and she really appreciated that. She puckered her eyebrows, pretending to feel guilty, but unable to hide her oncoming smirk. She was teasing him now. "But that means I'm having a bad effect on you ... I should probably feel guilty about that or something." She didn't. He probably would have found a different excuse to leave the library if she hadn't given him one and she was honestly enjoying their interaction.
Kinsey herself was a bit surprised by her honesty with him. Apparently he wasn't the kind of person she pushed away, which was a bit of a relief. Pushing everyone away always was exhausting. She shook her head, trying to look offended when he teased her. She was fairly certain he was just teasing, since his intentions were so positive, so she pretended like she knew. "Woooooow," she said, before he could insert that he was just kidding. Once he said that, she smiled again, rolling her eyes.
When he started to answer her question, Kinsey turned to watch him curiously. She ... couldn't read him. Sure, she knew his intentions were positive, but was he serious? He was talking about hating everyone and the school, but he was also smiling. "I ... are you serious? You hate my school?" she chuckled, trying to lighten the mood, but she was also super curious. Then he suggested they should be friends and her smile grew mischievous, her eyes twinkling a little. "Real friends? Or one of those people you hate just a little less than everyone else?" She shook her head, still smiling when he said she couldn't be mad because he didn't call her cute. "Right, because being an awkward, mystery nerd is way better than being cute." Wow. Where was this sarcasm coming from? Even though Kinsey wasn't trying to be mean, this wasn't really how she normally behaved with people. Her smile fell a little and she looked away from him, a little embarrassed about her own behavior. She scuffed the toe of her shoe on the floor before muttering, "You can call me cute if you want ... " It didn't mean Kins believed it, but she wouldn't get mad at him for calling her cute.

Sometime in November Kinsey was adorable, like a little kitten that he could hold in his hands or something. Joe wasn't used to talking to such sweet people. He almost felt the need to lighten up a bit on her, but she was taking it like a champ now that she almost seemed to get...comfortable? She was starting to dish him out a bit of his own medicine, testing him a bit even with some hidden sarcasm. He was enjoying their conversation as they walked, even if it was him admitting to hating her school and everyone in it basically. "You want the honest truth, Kinsey? Yeah, I hate your school. Can't say that I want to be here...I mean, it's nothing like Ilvermorny, but I'm not gonna sulk anymore." he joked, although there was plenty of truth in the statement. The look on his face showed that he meant it full heartedly. And he was still smiling. She tested him with the fake friends talk, he kind of liked that, allowing a low chuckle to slip from his lips. "Guess we'll have to wait and find out." he sealed the deal with a single nod, the corners of his lips curling into another boyish smile. His green eyes took her in completely as she reacted to his Joe perked up ever so slightly when she muttered that he could call her 'cute', taken aback slightly by her sudden bravery. He cocked his head to the side to exchange a puzzled, but thoroughly amused look, "So, I get permission to call you 'cute', but I'm not allowed to call you 'pretty'? What kind of nonsense is this?" he clutched her book under his arm, trying to play off the 'cute card with the amount of animation on his face. @kinsey MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0 [googlefont=Alegreya Sans SC:400]

Kinsey honestly couldn't tell what Joe was thinking of his conversation with her. Why did he want to keep on talking with her if he was just teasing. Then again, he started to get more serious with her when she answered his question. She wasn't entirely sure if he was going to return the honesty or not, but she was pleasantly surprised when he did.
She nodded when he asked if she wanted the honest truth, though her eyes widened slightly in surprise when he confirmed that he hated Hogwarts. "Soooo ... you hate it because you wish you were at Ilvermorny and not here?" She asked, digesting his words. "I guess that makes sense. I'd probably be upset if I had to go somewhere else my last year ... though maybe meeting new people and making friends would help?" she looked up at him, her expression a bit hopeful. She felt a little bit bad for him, now that she actually knew why he didn't like Hogwarts. It made sense. At least he was still smiling at her.
When he said they'd have to wait and find out, Kinsey nodded in agreement, "I guess we will." She wanted to be his friend now, which meant she might search him out. Assuming she found the bravery to do so, but she wanted him to have a good friend and he was fun and nice. She met his eyes with a determined gaze of her own.
He seemed to cheer up a little when she said he could call her cute and Kinsey blushed a little again when he spoke again, shrugging. "I didn't say you weren't allowed ... I'm just not used to it," she answered. "So I don't know what nonsense you're talking about." Yes, she was being a little sassy, but that was mostly because she sensed he liked it.

Sometime in November As they walked side by side, Joseph was actually listening to her. He didn't always practice active listening, but at this moment, he truly was. He could tell that Kinsey was trying to talk to him, and that she was typically an awkward girl. She had a calming energy about her. He shrugged his shoulders lazily, still gripping her books under his arm. "Yeah, guess you could say it was a bit of a shock coming here at first. Maybe some new friends would help.." He agreed with her for a moment, bobbing his head up and down in a nod as he walked. The Slytherin turned toward the blue eyed girl smiling, cocking his head to the side with interest, "Is this you formally agreeing to being my friend?--Or, what do you guys call 'em...'mates'?" he asked, obviously over dramatizing the word 'mates' to get a reaction out of her. Hopefully more of a smile, or eye roll, but he'd take anything she threw out there. Joe didn't mind looking stupid when he was messing around, or for a joke, he just didn't want people to think that he was actually stupid due to his looks and glorified jock status. Kinsey corrected him about the pretty thing and he shook his head with threaded eyebrows, but it was still playful. "Well, you asked me 'If I had to keep calling you 'that' - 'that' as in 'pretty' - so you were giving the impression like you didn't like it." he explained in a manner so overly serious it could only be taken jokingly, especially because he let out a chuckle after a brief silence. He noticed the warmth rushing to her cheeks as he turned to her with an overly submissive tone and expression, still playing it up for her, "It's okay, Kinsey, you make the rules. I'll just try my best to follow them, although rules are made to be broken, so can't make any promises there." he said coolly with a wink. This conversation was fun as they walked, he didn't pay any attention to other people passing by because he enjoyed Kinseys mixture of confusion, as well as the occasional sassy and smart banter back. Joseph could tell that she was a 'nice girl' that probably didn't get much attention, due to how timid she was initially, so he would definitely make an effort to sit next to her in Arithmancy if she allowed him to. @kinsey MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0 [googlefont=Alegreya Sans SC:400]

He confirmed her questions, saying that it was a shock to come to Hogwarts, though he surprised her when he admitted that maybe friends would help. She thought he would once again bring up the fact that he hated all the people here. Well, that was encouraging. She smiled, definitely feeling as though she'd been a little successful in getting him to agree that friends would be a good thing for him to have here. Then he turned toward her and she tensed slightly at his expression. He was about to tease her again, wasn't he? At his question, Kinsey chuckled and shook her head, though she was still smiling. "Only if you're accepting the offer. I don't normally offer to be mates with someone so soon after meeting them," she teased in return. What? If he was going to be constantly teasing her, she might as well tease him back here and there. She had a feeling he'd like that.
Of course, Joe continued to tease Kinsey about her not wanting him to call her pretty. It was true, she felt uncomfortable when people called her that, mostly because not many people had during her life. Her family and Riley, of course, but besides them it had only been Dominic, when he was in a particularly foul mood and wanted to drag her down with him. Because of his efforts, she felt comfortable being sarcastically referred to as pretty, but Joe obviously didn't mean it that way. He was trying to compliment her. Kinsey looked down at her feet as they walked, blushing a bit. "You can call me that if you want, it will just take a while for me to get used to it." If she ever could, but she didn't tell him that. He didn't need to know about all her problems.
She chuckled when his tone became a bit more playful and he said that she made the rules. "You can call me whatever, it's fine," she said off-handedly- waving her hand in the air like it really didn't matter. "Ooooh, I wouldn't want to make you break any rules," Kinsey started to tease, becoming a little more relaxed again. It was interesting how he could bring this out in her. One moment, his words made her serious, the next she was teasing him right back. "Not on my account at least," she added after a moment. Kinsey turned so the pair of them were going up one of the moving staircases. They weren't too far away from the Ravenclaw Common room now, but she still had time to talk to him.

Sometime in November "Offer accepted." he smiled with a solid nod. Glad that she displayed that she could clearly take a joke and handle it with grace. "....But only because I have a good feeling about you." he said, his tone oozing with that typical flirtatiousness from before. She was a cute mixture of awkward and sassy, it was almost too easy, he liked seeing how she reacted to his flattery. He actually meant what she was saying too. Joe listened as she said it would take her some time to get used to him flattering her. He stepped onto the staircase beside her, "Sounds like you need a bit of a confidence booster." Joe said, not trying to tease her now, he was just observing her. Then, he had to ruin it, in his own typical Joe-flattery way. "Guess I just gotta call you beautiful every day until you stop getting all red and sweaty." he smiled widely, his green eyes flickering with amusement all over again. He quite enjoyed this. @kinsey MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0 [googlefont=Alegreya Sans SC:400]

Joe didn't hesitate at all when it came to her offer, accepting it almost immediately and Kinsey was rather pleased by that fact. It was nice to be spending her time with someone who obviously wanted to be friends with her, that seemed to be willing to make it happen. At least, that's what it seemed like in that moment. Who knew if he would actually even remember her once he dropped her off at her common room. Maybe he'd find someone else to flirt with after, someone more interesting. She rolled her eyes, pulling herself back to the conversation when he said he had a good feeling about her. "Oh, well I suppose I should feel honored about that?" she teased back after a minute hesitation, making the statement a question mostly just because she could.
She could tell when he was serious and glanced over to look at him, a little surprised. "Are you offer-" Kinsey started to tease but broke off when he continued, saying that he'd call her beautiful every day. Ah, that seemed more like the guy she felt like she was getting to know. The tease. She snorted and shook her head, "Good luck with that. I'm pretty sure you'll get tired of saying it way before you can cure me of my embarrassment." Really though. What guarantee did she have that he would ever talk to her again after today? She wouldn't come outright and say that because she didn't want to be rude, but at the same time she couldn't hold all the skepticism in.

Sometime in November Joe enjoyed that Kinsey was actually shooting back some banter now. He could work with that. "You're entitled to feel however you like, Kinsey." he said sweetly, practically batting his eyelashes at her. Sometimes he was too much energy to deal with, but Kinsey was handling him very well. The Slytherin cocked his head to the side when she told him he'd be bored of her sooner or later. He shrugged, denying the accusation, "Doubt it. You'll be surprised by how persistent I am..." he stated blatantly. It was already pretty obvious how persistent he was by how he insisted on walking the Ravenclaw girl to wherever she was going. He would talk to her after today. They would soon be official Arithmancy partners. Slowly, they made their way up the staircases towards the Ravenclaw tower. "We will get you out of that shell in no time, even if I gotta pry ya out of it." Joe declared confidently, prepared for any sass she may shoot back. @kinsey MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0 [googlefont=Alegreya Sans SC:400]

Kinsey laughed out loud, not bothering to try and be quiet, when he told her she could feel however she wanted, batting his eyelashes at her. Guys actually did that? Of course, when he did it he just made her want to smile, but she still couldn't remember seeing a guy bat their eyelashes ... maybe Gilderoy? "I'll keep that in mind," she answered, still chuckling at the look on his face. He was definitely a tease, but she was enjoying it more than she thought.
He argued back, saying that he was very persistent and Kinsey's eyes narrowed. "Why would you be persistent about me?" She chuckled as a thought struck her, "If you're trying to make up for hitting my nose, you really don't have to. I promise, I'm fine. You don't owe me anything." If he was just trying to be chivalrous, she could let him out of it right now. She didn't want him following her or something just because he felt guilty. They neared the top of the stairs and her eyebrows lifted at his words. "What if it's not the kind of shell one can simply pry open?" she said, mostly just to be contrary. If he really was determined to help her feel more comfortable, it probably wouldn't be too hard to do. She wasn't going to say that though.

Sometime in November When Kinsey laughed at him, he laughed out loud too, harmonizing in a gleeful symphony. Her reaction to his eye lashes batting was worth doing such a stupid display. This was why he did these things, he knew that he was being ridiculous. Flirting and making a fool of himself for girls always came easily. Usually they just weren't so hard to get. The chase was a part of the thrill. Kinsey accused him of following her for feeling like he owed her something, so he shook his head in disagreement. That wasn't it. He truly thought she was cute. "Yeah, maybe a felt little bit at first, but after talking to you and agreeing to being friends...so I think I will stick around if you allow it." he started, before nodding his head about the shell thing. At least she was aware that she was stand-offish. These things didn't phase Joe though. He would do many things to get a rise out of her. "You're kind of like a walnut, when you need to be more at a....Pistachio level." he instructed in mock jest, trying to resist a smile. They were at the last and final staircase now. @kinsey MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

Kinsey honestly couldn't remember the last time she had so much fun with a literal stranger. This run-in with Joe was really just what she needed. He was so nice and funny, but at the same time his teasing made her want to participate. She actually wanted to joke around with him, which wasn't something she normally wanted to do. Generally, Kinsey was more than happy to watch other people be silly and flirt and joke around with one another, or to just go off on her own, but she found herself actually wanting to talk to Joe and hoping that he actually did mean it. She nodded, looking away from him as a slight blush came back. "I'll allow it, as long as you're not just being my friend because you feel bad," she answered with a sly smile, feeling almost confident now that he wanted to be her friend. She laughed when he called her a walnut. "Well you're going to have to find a way to transform me from a Walnut to a Pistachio then, because I really don't like the idea of getting smashed. So don't let me down," Kinsey teased.
She sighed, more disappointed than she expected when they arrived at the landing, the Ravenclaw Common Room entrance just a short ways away now. "Well, I guess this is me," she commented, holding her arms out to take her books back. "Thanks for walking with me Joe. I had fun." She really did. Normally that kind of a comment would just be polite, but it wasn't. She nodded at him before walking away. "See you later," she called over her shoulder, actually hoping that she would but at the same time trying not to get her hopes up too high. No point in disappointing herself.

Sometime in November "Admittedly, I'm much better with charms thans transfiguration, but I'm sure that could be arranged." he removed his wand from his pocket out of jest, but put it away quickly right after. They had finally reached the final staircase. This had been too short of an encounter! The Slytherin handed over the books when she extended her arms for them. "It was nice to meet you, Kinsey." He said, surprisingly polite and lacking any teasing or mocking air. "See ya in Arithmancy." Joe told her as she walked away, the smile growing on his face. She was awkward, but also quite sassy, she had something special about her. He would definitely be seeing her again soon. @kinsey MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0
