Her 'awkward' side hug was enough to make his shoulders relax and he stopped walking for a second, shaking his head a little to try and clear his thoughts. "It's okay. I'll explain more later. Let's just get through this, yeah?" he suggested, reaching his own arm around HER waist too so they were hip to hip and side to side. "We can just walk like this. Easier than jumping in and out of each others arms," he said, his attempt at a joke. He didn't start walking just yet, though. Instead he gave her a little squeeze, "well, we've faced one of my worst fears - hopefully we don't see any of yours," he said. He realized he wasn't even sure what her deepest fears were. Some people didn't even know themselves. His fears were pretty standard. Not wanting to let people down he loved, and facing his mother and father. @jessavette

Jess could feel Fin relax when she hugged him and felt herself relax as well. She hated the idea of him upset for any reason. Actually seeing him upset, well it was harder to see than she expected. She nodded when he said that he'd explain later, but that they should focus on getting through this first. "Yeah. We can do it together," she said, squeezing him a little as she tried to be reassuring. She chuckled slightly at his joke. "I like that idea. Keeping you very close is probably a good idea for me."
She looked up at him when he squeezed her, saying that he hoped they didn't have to face one of her worst fears. An image of her family being attacked while Jess was forced to watch flashed through her mind. She knew it was unlikely to ever happen, but her mind wasn't being particularly kind to her right now. "Hopefully," she whispered, a ghost of a smile on her face. "As long as you're with me I'll be okay though," she breathed as she started to step forward. While she was still excited to go through the haunted house, a part of her wished it was over already. The talk of worst fears didn't help her at all.

He had almost forgotten that Jess didn't know anything about his parents. He hadn't opened up to her about it before, that much was certain. He rarely opened up to anyone about it, so it just didn't cross his mind when having conversation - even with his girlfriend. She said she liked the idea of staying close and he nodded, "same here. I'd prefer it if we were always this close but," he shrugged, "you know, work and things."She said as long as he was with her she'd be okay. "Again, same here," he repeated. The room seemed fairly innocent... for now. @jessavette (YOU PICK THE NEXT THING YOU NERD)

Jess finally started to really relax when Fin started to tease her lightly, saying he wished they were always this close. She smiled up at him, chuckling softly as she nodded. "Yeah, work and things have a tendency to get in the way. It's a shame." Blessedly, she felt herself finally starting to calm down a bit from the adrenaline of the past few rooms. Okay, so the last one wasn't so bad, other than the fact that it was gross and upset Fin, but she was finally relaxing a little after that first room. Stupid creepy dolls.
As they stepped into the room, it was almost like walking into a jungle or a swamp. There was fog everywhere, along with trees and vines (sure they were probably fake, but to Jess they seemed quite realistic). She looked around curiously, leaning away when a few of the "vines" started hissing. Okay, that was creepy, but not to bad.
Then the two of them came to a bridge. It was one of those rickety bridges that really shouldn't exist, but probably do in the deep deep parts of the wilderness. Jess stopped, her nose scrunching as she looked at it. Something was going to happen right about now, wasn't it? Taking a deep breath, she glanced up at Fin. "Of course they'd make this so thin that we can't walk across together," she mumbled as she let go of him, stepping forward onto the bridge. It shook and was a little rickety, but not bad and Jess smiled.
It was halfway across the bridge (which wasn't that long, she could see the end of it through the fog) when she started hearing low moans. Then someone from below the bridge reached around the edge and grabbed her foot, tugging lightly before releasing it. Jess screeched, clinging onto the rope rails of the bridge with her hands as she forced herself to keep moving forward. Now she was getting tugged all over the place, someone on the right side, others on the left. Some of the people barely held on, while others tugged her so she almost lost her balance before releasing her. She was moving very slowly now, but still making her way to the other side. "Fin?" she called, hoping he was right behind her. She didn't want to have to wait at the end for him to cross the bridge.

Jess agreed that it would be nice if they could be that close all of the time, and that work and stuff always got in the way. "We should both take a week off and go somewhere," he suggested. "I could show you around Dublin," he didn't expect himself to be inviting her on a trip like that right now just somehow it just came out. He didn't regret it, though, and wouldn't mind if she actually agreed to it... This was a weird time to bring it up, though. The next room was much more fun than the last, a cool jungle with a ricketey bridge. He did agree that it was unfortunate that they couldn't walk together. She stepped ahead and he reached a hand forward to place it on her back. Then she screeched and he looked down when he felt something on him, too. When the people started grabbing them, he took his arm away from her in order to get a better grip on the ropes. Some of these people were really strong, he was impressed. She called his name and he released the rope "right here," the promesied before gently clasping a hand on her shoulder as to not startle her. "Just keep walking, their only actors after all. This drop is probably ten feet with a cushion at the bottom," he tried looking over the edge, "good effects tho-" suddenly the bridge titled and he released her again to hold the rope. There wasn't a new door in front of them, just a wall. "I think this is the last room, J. We're suppose to fall."@jessavette (He wanted to call her that okay. Also I was thinking they'd fall and go down this nice slide until they landed softly at the end and were given Halloween candy xD And then I have more after that obvi so don't end it ) [River stop trying to steal my girl. Jess looked up at Fin, a huge smile on her face. "Really? I would love that," she agreed almost instantly. She loved spending any time she could with him. The idea of spending a week together, somewhere where they couldn't be interrupted sounded too good to be true. "I've never been there before." She'd never really traveled before, which made the idea even more appealing to her.
By the time she made it to the end of the bridge, Jess' heart was pounding, but at least she wasn't screaming every time someone grabbed at her anymore. Besides that, when Fin answered, telling her that he was right there, she relaxed ever so slightly. He was there. She was fine and he was there. He touched her shoulders, encouraging her to keep going and Jess nodded as she looked over the edge too. She couldn't see anything. When the bridge jerked, she squealed a little, reaching back to grab the bridge, but she accidentally grabbed Fin instead. "S-sorry," she muttered, right before he told her she needed to fall.
The bridge was steady again and Jess took a deep breath. "Okay, here I go," she said, glancing up at him before stepping off the edge. She found her feet sliding underneath her and the next thing she knew, Jess was sliding downwards, hoping that Fin was right and that this was the end of the place. As interesting as it had been, she wanted to relax a little now and she knew she couldn't there. "I made it," Jess called up, stepping out of the way just in case he was already headed down.
Someone approached her with a bag of something and she shook her head, "Just one minute okay?" She didn't know if they were trying to rush her out or something, but she wasn't going anywhere without Fin.

She said she would love to go to Dublin with him, saying she'd never been before. "You'll love it. Hey, maybe you could write a travel piece on it or something," he suggested, glad for the short distraction from the room before. He knew she'd love it mainly because he knew she liked to do things with him, just like he did with her. When they reached the end the bridge jerked and Jess grabbed him. He shook his head to wave off her apology, of course he didn't mind. Then she took a deep breath, glancing at him because apparently she was going to go first. He didn't have time to say anything before she gone and she called up, saying she made it. He stepped off the edge then too - and down the slide he went. Once at the bottom he saw Jess and someone else. Just a normal worker of the house, not a scary costume or anything. "Hey," he greeted, walking up to Jess and putting an arm around her waist. The worker asked them how they liked it and gave them each a bag of candy. They only talked to them for a moment before Fin started to steer Jess toward the exit. "Well, we can cross that off our bucket list," he said. @jessavette

Jess' eyes widened with excitement at Fin's idea. "Oh! That would be so much fun!" She squeezed his arm, unable to contain her enthusiasm at the idea of going with him to a new place. "So you want to show me all the cool places there then?" Jess teased, looking up at him sweetly.
Fin came straight to her once he'd gone down the slide and Jess smiled at him as she took one of the offered bags of candy. Fin pulled her to the exit and Jess giggled as she looked up at him. "Oh? So you don't want to do another one with me tomorrow?" Ha! Like she'd want to come anywhere close to another one of these places for at least a year. Looking back on it, the place wasn't too terrible, but there were definitely parts that freaked her out. She didn't want to do it again soon. "So what do you want to do now?" she asked him curiously. The haunted house hadn't taken as long as she thought it would, and she was certain Fin wouldn't want to end their night so early.

She asked if he would show her all the cool places in Dublin and he nodded, "definitely. I know all the secret ones too, because I snuck around a lot," he admitted, chuckling a little even though it was kind of a sad situation. But he enjoyed exploring, it wasn't like he was just wandering around crying - at least not every time. She asked if he wanted to do another with her tomorrow, obviously being sarcastic. He narrowed his eyes at her and wiggled his eyebrows, "I don't think you could take it," he countered. She asked what he wanted to do next and he just took her hand, stepping out the door and leading her down the street. It was dusk, but not quite dark yet. "Let's walk... and... I'll explain what happened in there," he said slowly, squeezing her hand a little. He didn't look at her, but instead kept his gaze straight ahead. "See, about my my mum... she wrote all those books and things and kind of forgot that I existed as a real person. Kind of thought I was just the embodiment of her imagination, you know?" his voice was strained, how was it still hard to talk about this? @jessavette

Jess smiled as Fin explained that he should show her all the cool and secret spots in Dublin, deciding to focus on that rather than on the fact that he had to sneak around when he was younger. A part of her wanted to ask why, but she also didn't. "Ooooh, secret places? That sounds like fun," she teased lightly, stepping closer to him.
He said he didn't think she could take coming back and Jess laughed. "Yeah, you're probably right about that. That place freaked me out." Fin already knew that; he'd been there, but there wasn't anything wrong with admitting that to him. He'd probably even like it. He took her hand and Jess followed him down the street, looking up at him when he spoke again. "Okay," she answered softly, feeling like this was probably a bit deal. She saw how freaked out he got inside the haunted house and was glad that he trusted her enough to want to explain it to her. Jess' jaw dropped as he explained and she squeezed his hand softly. "Fin," she answered softly. "I'm so sorry. That sounds so hard." She felt so bad for him. Jess couldn't imagine one of her parents not thinking she really existed. "Is she ... still writing?" She'd never heard of his mom, at least she didn't think she had. Jess wasn't a particularly big reader, even though she wanted to be a writer. She moved closer to him, pulling her hand out of his so she could give him a side hug.

She said the secret places of Dublin sounded fun and he smiled softly, "it will be fun. Lots of stolen kisses and all that," he promised. She agreed that she couldn't go back into another haunted house and that it freaked her out. Yeah, he was sure they wouldn't be doing that again. Well... maybe next year. After he told his story she said she was sorry and that it sounded hard. Then she said his name and he stopped walking, but his gaze was fixed forward. She asked if his mother was still writing and he swallowed, nodding. "That's why I spent that time in Dublin this year..." he sighed, looking down, but then she moved to give him a side hug and he felt his throat entirely close up from emotion. He lifted a hand, pressing it against his mouth. He wasn't normally one to cry, definitely not. But this was Jess... "Can," he swallowed, 'we go back to my place now?"@jessavette

The more they talked about it, the more Jess liked the idea of going to Dublin with Fin. She just wanted to be with him, away from everyone else. She wanted to enjoy every second, see places that mattered to him. She grinned, "Stolen kisses in secret places? Sounds fantastic," she agreed, giggling a little at the idea.
Fin wasn't really looking at her, but Jess honestly wasn't super surprised by that. He was distracted, thinking about his mother. Jess felt so bad for him, but didn't really think there was anything she could really do to make it better. She also couldn't tell if Fin wanted to stop talking about it or not. He explained that he'd gone to Dublin to see his mother and Jess didn't know what else to say. She tightened her awkward side hug for a second before pulling away, noticing that he wasn't hugging her back.
She looked up at him and her eyes widened slightly. He was obviously emotional and Jess didn't know what to do. She wanted to be there for him and she definitely didn't want to make things worse, but what was she supposed to do? She nodded immediately. "Of course. Let's go," she agreed, taking his hand and hesitating a second. She assumed he'd want to apparate, but did he want to or did he want her to? Why was she so nervous? Jess rarely got nervous like this around Fin anymore. It was weird.

She thought Dublin sounded fantastic, and he was glad for it. They would be happy there, as long as they avoided his mother as much as possible. As he felt himself starting to cry, she looked up at him and agreed to go back to his place. He didn't even think, he just instantly turned the nearest corner, out of site and appareated with her in hand. They were back at his apartment, just outside, and he quickly released her hand to unlock the door and rush in. He didn't close the door behind him so that she could follow him inside. He moved to the counter, placing both of his hands on top of it so that his shoulder muscled tensed up as he pressed against it. Come on, Fin. Don't cry. He told himself. But it was already too late and he was horrified by that. How could he possibly let her see him like this? @jessavette

The second she took his hand, Fin started pulling her to the nearest corner and he apparated them to his place. Once they arrived, Jess looked up at him, but he'd already let her go and was walking inside. He didn't close the door, and he brought her here, so Jess figured he wasn't trying to push her away, but she still didn't know what to do. She stepped inside, turning to close the door behind herself and lock it. That's what he normally did, right? She wasn't used to seeing him like this.
When she turned around, it was to see Fin leaning over the counter, obviously tense. She ached for him. What could she possibly do to make him feel better? Jess bit her lip and walked across the room to where he stood. She moved beside him, reaching out and placing her hand over his. She didn't know what to say, but she looked up at him. He was crying! She never thought she'd ever see Fin as emotional as he was right now and Jess didn't know if she could stand it. She cared about him too much to see him like this.
Her hand tightened around his and she tried to pull it from the counter, moving it so his arm wasn't in her way and she could step closer and give him a real, tight hug. Jess had no idea if he wanted that or not, but it was all she could think of. "I'm so sorry Fin," she whispered, holding onto him tightly and hoping maybe she could help somehow.

He didn't realize his eyes were closed until he felt her hand on his. That just made the tears come even more, and his hand tensed under hers. He didn't vocalize the crying at all though. It was just silent but flowing tears anyway. She held on a little tighter, and he let her take his hand off the counter so she could get between him and the counter and give him a hug. He took his other hand off the counter, too, and wrapped his arms around her shoulders. Man, it felt so good to just hold onto her. He tried not to hold too tightly, still hyper aware of keeping her safe even in a moment like this. He didn't say anything for several minutes after she expressed condolences, just holding onto her and letting himself slowly calm his breath. He let the tears stop on their own time, and took in a long breath. "It's okay," he finally said. He moved his arms so that his hands could find either side of the back of her head, cradling it like it was a precious thing that could break at any moment. He looked down at her, into her eyes, "I've made a better life now. Don't need that old one."@jessavette
