Fin didn't fight with her when she pulled his hand off the counter, nor did her push her away when he hugged him. She didn't really think he would, but Jess honestly didn't know what to expect right now. She didn't know what to do. She felt so bad for Fin, so angry at his mother for doing something like that to him. She couldn't fathom how a parent would forget their child like that.
At least he was holding her in return. Jess might not know what he needed or what she could do for him, but as long as Fin wanted to hug her back, she would let him. She slowly heard his breath calming, but she didn't pull away. She squeezed a little tighter when he said that it was okay. No it wasn't, but she wasn't going to say that. He moved so his hands were holding her head and Jess finally pulled away enough that she could look up at him, her concerned eyes meeting his. He said that he didn't need his old life, that he'd made a better one now and she knew he was talking about them. She exhaled, trying to find words to express what she was feeling right now. She just wanted to be there for him. "I love you, Fin," Jess breathed the words, not expecting them but knowing they were true and that he needed to know it. She wanted to say something else, but nothing else would come so she stood there, staring up at him, hoping she didn't just say something that would make him freak out again.

The look in her eyes was something different than he'd ever seen before. Aside from a similar thing from Elaine and Desi, he had never really seen someone care about him like this. Not just care, but some kind of nurturing presence. He certainly hadn't gotten that from his mother, so getting that from Jess now made him want to cry all over again - but he didn't. For a moment he thought she wasn't going to speak, which would be okay. But then she did - and what she said made him catch his breath. "I've always loved you," he answered, his tone entirely serious and his brow furrowed. He wanted to make sure she understood that this was fact. A hard fact that could never be changed. He nodded once, firmly and short, "I love you," he repeated. He wanted to kiss her, but he also didn't want to stop looking into her eyes. That was a new feeling. @jessavette

Jess felt like it took ages for Fin to answer her, but the second she spoke she knew she'd said the right thing. He was staring at her, and something suddenly felt complete and so, so right. He answered that he'd always loved her and Jess couldn't stop the smile that grew on her face. Even though he was upset, even though he just shared the trauma of his childhood, he loved her. She couldn't be happier, even though his expression was still so serious.
She exhaled heavily, her breath a sigh of relief that he returned her feelings, "I'm so glad. I don't know what I'd do without you Fin," she admitted. She lifted her arms to wrap them around his neck, turning her head to the side a little. "Don't you think this is something we should seal with a kiss?" she teased, quirking her eyebrows at him. She just wanted to see him smile before she kissed him. That was all that was holding her back.

She exhaled, saying she was glad and that she didn't know what she'd do without him. He nodded, agreeing. She wrapped her arms around his neck and he moved in a little closer to make it easier for her. She asked if they should seal this confession with a kiss and he nodded again, and he did smile - just a little. "I guess that would make sense."He took in a deep breath, his small smile vanishing to make way for his serious face again. He didn't mean to look so severe, but he took this so seriously that it was hard for him to let that go at the moment. He moved one hand down her back, sliding it into place on her back and moved his other hand to her cheek, his thumb gently finding her cheekbone and brushing over it. He leaned forward, kissing her slowly, taking in every tiny step of their lips making contact - every point where their lips touched. @jessavette

He nodded, silently agreeing to her comment and Jess could feel her confidence returning. This was still Fin. He cared for her, loved her even. He wanted to be with her just as much as she wanted to be with him and she knew that. He moved closer, smiling ever so slightly at her little joke, agreeing that it made sense.
Jess was almost ready to just lean in and snog him right then, but she noticed his expression change again as he slowly lifted a hand to her cheek. Her eyelids fluttered closed and she smiled at his touch. Then he was kissing her slowly and Jess found herself following his lead. Something was different this time. They'd kissed often before today, but now that they explained their feelings for one another it felt entirely different. She kissed him back, returning his slow kisses and slowly pulling herself closer to him as the kiss intensified. Oh, how she loved him.

It was hard to explain how Fin felt about Jess. Sure, maybe he was a little obsessive and over protective. Sure, he loved her. But to him it had always been so much more than that - even if he didn't know how to explain that to her. She was so sweet, so gentle, and maybe wasn't ready to reach into his intense feelings for her and pull a real relationship out of that. But something was beginning here, and as they kissed and kissed and kissed - from the counter to the couch to wherever - he pictured what their life could be. They could have a family, a house, kids, a dog, a cat, whatever they wanted. He pictured them kissing now, in five years, in ten years, in fifty years. She'd teach their kids how to play quidditch, he didn't know what he'd teach them - he didn't think he had that much to offer - but they'd have an amazing life. They'd be loved, cared for, listened to, respected, encouraged to make the world a better place... But those visions were tainted. There was something dark lurking underneath it all, slowly leeching the color from this amazing dream he had until it was black and white and stale. Later that night, as they laid in his bed and she was asleep on his chest, his arm around her, he was wide awake with those black and white pictures. Things that started out beautiful and were now cold and empty. Because he was one of them. For the first time ever, he finally knew. He couldn't live both lives. He had to choose. He looked over at sleeping Jess, took a deep breath, and kissed the top of her head. And then, a little color came back into the future he had in mind. @jessavette (the end)
