THOUGH JIMMIE DIDN'T PARTICULARLY CARE about being a prefect, she did enjoy the slight power it gave her. It was kind of thrilling to feel in charge. It did mean that some people were a little less forthright about their gossip, which Jimmie had always had a soft spot for, but she found in time people simply forgot. Plus, all she ever really did was patrol the hallways. She even found time to work on articles in the odd lull.
However, on this particular night, Jimmie was stuck patrolling with one Hugo Weasley. There was no slacking off with the Head Boy at her heels. Though, when Jimmie thought about it, she realised she didn't mind. Hugo had been in the middle of a slight conspiracy theory as of late. Just two weeks ago someone had slipped a rather potent dyeing potion in to the pumpkin juice at the Gryffindor table and all those unfortunate enough to drink it found their hair turning a rather awful shade of orange. Luckily, Jimmie had been spared. Donning her robes and ugly prefect pin, Jimmie met Hugo by the doors of the Gryffindor common room with a plan.
"I'm all set," She declared, swiping her silvery blonde hair off her shoulders and shooting Hugo a perfunctory smiles. In reality, she had a very small recording device in her pocket and a little nifty notepad. What would the head boy have to say about the recent pranking Jimmie wasn't sure, but she hoped for a confession.

Hugo was enjoying being Head Boy far more than he imagined he would. He'd honestly been flabbergasted when he got the owl telling him of his new responsibilities, and a little worried that it would take all the fun out of his last year at Hogwarts. He needn't have worried about that. Being Head Boy meant that Hugo had to be more subtle about the pranks he pulled, make sure there was no way to link his name to them. That added an extra level of challenge to what he loved to do and was making his pranks even more fun. For example, the other day he and Sav turned people's hair orange. It only happened to the Gryffindors that had pumpkin juice at breakfast, but it was still hilarious. The best part was that nothing linked him and his friend to the prank. Of course, they were suspects, but there was no evidence to point to them, so they couldn't be punished for it. (Which was a good thing because with Hugo's status as Head Boy he'd probably get a bigger punishment than normal if caught) Still, tonight he had no pranks planned. It was just a normal patrol duty and he was assigned to go with Jimmie Blishwick. He and Addi agreed at the beginning of the year that they should take turns patrolling with the prefects to make sure they knew what they were doing and that they were doing things correctly. So far, he hadn't seen anything out of the ordinary (though he was sure they were on their best behavior when working with him) He waited in the common room for Jimmie to appear, and when she did, declaring that she was ready, he nodded and made his way through the portrait. "So how have you been doing this year Jimmie?" he asked, trying to break the ice. That was the hardest thing about patrolling with Prefects. Most of them were intimidated by him and Hugo hated walking in silence. He'd much rather talk to people and make things interesting. He just wished that they all had that same idea, but they didn't. So he made efforts to fix that as early on as he could. Hopefully it wouldn't be a problem tonight. Jameson Hera Blishwick

FOLLOWING HUGO THROUGH THE COMMON ROOM portrait, Jimmie made sure to smile genially, despite the fact that her suspicions were rife. They'd be stuck together for much of the evening, patrolling for stragglers and trouble-makers. Jimmie had every intention of taking full advantage of their isolation. She pulled on the cuff of her robes, the silence dragging, though she made no obvious attempt to break it. Jimmie had always found that people spoke more in the gaps between pleasantries.
"Fine," She shrugged, flashing a thin, close-lipped smile as they began the loop around the floor, the halls flickering in the low light. "Sixth year isn't nearly as difficult as I thought it'd be." She'd been fairly swamped with the paper, but Jimmie had grown to enjoy that particular busyness. That, and the added drama of the transfers and she'd been fairly occupied. "You?" She asked after a second, feigning disinterest as she ran her hand through her hair. "Did you hear about the pumpkin juice prank?" And this time she looked at him, her lips twitching in to a slight smirk as she narrowed her eyes slightly - inspecting him for guilt.

Jimmie smiled at him as they left, a good enough sign. At least she wasn't annoyed by him or thinking that patrolling with him was a bother. She didn't really seem that way with anyone though. From what Hugo knew of her, the girl was pretty easy to get along with and enjoyed a good time. That was good, despite the fact that Hugo didn't know her well enough to really mess around with her there. He couldn't know if she'd be the type to try and get him into trouble for rule-breaking or not. He was also supposed to be a good example this year ... ha. They knew his nature when they named him Head Boy. Hugo was determined to still have fun this year, despite the responsibility he now held. She said she was doing fine and Hugo nodded, smiling. "Glad to hear that," he said, wishing he could think of a better response. He did not want to walk in silence. Then she started mentioning that sixth year wasn't as hard as she thought and he smirked. "Oh? Are you sure the teachers aren't just giving you a few weeks to warm up or whatever?" he teased, unable to help himself. Sure, he might keep his pranking tendencies to himself tonight, but teasing was almost a given when one did something with Hugo Weasley. He shrugged as she returned the question. " I'm doing really well. The workload is a lot in seventh year, but not anything I can't handle." That didn't mean he did well with all of his assignments, but he did them. Her next question definitely took him by surprise, though he didn't show it. Hugo was used to being interrogated about the pranks performed in the school. The caretaker often suspected that he and his friends had something to do about it, so he was used to keeping his reactions to himself. The prank she was talking about, however, happened to be one of his favorites that he'd performed this year. He chuckled, "I'm fairly certain everyone in the school heard about that ... and saw the results of it for themselves." Hugo quirked an eyebrow at her, "Did your hair get turned that lovely shade of orange?" He wasn't sure why else she'd be bringing it up. Jameson Hera Blishwick

JIMMIE SHOT HUGO A VERY LONG AND CONFIDENT expression as he questioned her capabilities. "I'm sure," She said primly, a little smile on her face. She didn't so much as excel in school, though she was quite smart and coasted fairly easily in most subjects. Her time and effort was always on the paper and her very many articles. "Are you?" She teased him back, quirking her brows easily. She didn't need anybody to take it easy on her.
"You sound sure of yourself," She retorted, kissing her teeth as she side-eyed him. Always donning an appearance as if she knew more than she ever let on. That was the best way to keep people on their toes, she thought. Just like cutting to the chase and broaching the topic of the pranks, her stare shrewd and searching. She wanted him to think she knew something, lest he get cocky. Though she wasn't entirely sure what type of person he was yet, whether he was the type to clam up or shut down. She had to wait and see.
"I think not," Jimmie scoffed, curling her very shiny, silvery blonde hair around one ear proudly. "I like to think I have a good instinct for stuff like that." She didn't really, not particularly. It just so happened that she had a very distinct dislike for pumpkin and it was hideously popular among everyone else. "You?" She asked, because she thought if you were going to prank everyone else, you wouldn't prank yourself. Unless you were smart enough to attempt a cover up.

The look she gave him made the teasing definitely worth it. Hugo barely was able to restrain his laughter, but the smile was obvious. She said she was sure that the teachers weren't about to overwhelm her and Hugo nodded knowingly, as if he hadn't been teasing her in the first place. He chuckled when she asked the question right back. "I sure hope so. If not, who knows if I'll make it through my NEWTS this year." He was sure he'd handle it just fine, even if he didn't pass them all. His mother might be disappointed, but she'd understand too. She was cool that way. She made some comment then about him sounding sure of himself and Hugo smirked. "That's the trick to it all," he said in a conspiratory whisper, teasing her again. "If I sound sure of myself, then people think I am. Even the teachers, so they don't give me more than I can handle because they think I know what I'm doing." Sure, she might not have still been talking about school, but Hugo decided to take it that way. Made everything more amusing for him, which was what really mattered. Hugo laughed outright when Jimmie said that she hadn't gotten her hair turned orange. "Well, I'm glad you do. That orange was not a very flattering color." Which was exactly why he'd chosen it ... not that he was about to tell her that. He shook his head when she asked if it got him. "No, I only drink pumpkin juice in the evening. Dunno why, but it always tastes weird in the morning." He chuckled, "And I was also late coming down that morning. Got stopped by the caretaker in the hallway." It was true ... and he'd almost missed all the fun because of it! Luckily, he wasn't the only person involved in this particular prank. Jameson Hera Blishwick

JIMMIE DIDN'T FIND IT PARTICULARLY FUNNY TO take such a risk with NEWTS. She wasn't a genius, but she didn't like being wrong either. To be so casual about Seventh Year exams put her off a little and she frowned at him. "Isn't that a scary thought?" She asked him, as if she thought he'd say no. Now that Jimmie knew she wanted to be a journalist, she knew she couldn't fail out of Sixth and Seventh year at Hogwarts. So, while most of her attention was on writing articles and the school newspaper, she was also intending on success.
"That-" Jimmie held her tongue momentarily as she thought about what he was implying. "That sounds ridiculous." She told bluntly, but maybe he was right. She'd never seen him looking overwhelmed with anything. She felt a little indignant at that, crossing her arms. "So, you're basically saying 'don't show weakness'?" Her nose scrunched, and her pace slowed a little as she considered what he was saying. "That's fake." She decided, speeding up and overtaking him slightly. "No way does that work." She called over her shoulder, scoffing slightly as she shook her head.
"Orange is rarely a flattering colour," Jimmie said, letting her hands fall to her sides as she buried them in to the folds of her robes. "Oh, right..." She said, though she wasn't buying that at all. "You'd think it'd be fresher in the mornings." Her eyes were pinned on him now. But, according to him he had an alibi. There was no denying it if he'd really been side-lined when the prank had occurred. Clucking her tongue she stopped and squared her jaw, teeth clenching.
"I know you were involved!" She told him sternly, her eyes narrowed. Though she had absolutely no proof, but vaguely questioning him wasn't working. He was too smooth and she couldn't get a hold on what he was saying beyond what came out of his mouth. "You and... your little mates." She shook her head and smirked at him. "That's your gig." She began walking again, passing him with a cocky grin. "You're fooling nobody."

It was amusing, watching Jimmie's response to his attitude about NEWTs. He wasn't saying that he didn't care. Hugo already told her that he felt like he had everything handled, but if it ended up not helping him there wasn't really much he could do about that. Besides, he preferred to take a more positive outlook on things. He'd rather look forward to the future than be scared by it. At her question, he shrugged. "Not really. I told you, I'm pretty sure I have things well in hand. If not, I'll just deal with that when I come to it." Hugo wasn't the type to worry about things he couldn't control. Heck, he didn't worry about things he could control either. Hugo outright laughed when Jimmie said his idea sounded ridiculous. He held up a finger, wagging it at her, "It may sound ridiculous, which is why people don't think it would work." He hadn't ever actually told anyone his suspicions about this before. However, he did believe it. He'd never really gotten overwhelmed with schoolwork or whatever, which might just be because he didn't mind if he didn't do perfectly. He did well enough to pass, which was what he wanted. He nodded when she asked if his attitude was about not showing weakness. "Yup!" She started walking faster, saying it didn't work and that it was fake. "It works for me," he answered as he walked quickly enough to catch up to her. It didn't matter if Jimmie believed him or not. She insisted that orange wasn't a flattering color in general, which Hugo couldn't really argue with. He preferred the red of their house, but oh well. He could tell she didn't really believe him until he mentioned being stuck with the caretaker. This was kind of fun! He liked the suspicious look on her face as she eyed him. Jimmie Blishwick was not the first person to suspect him of messing around and she likely wouldn't be the last. That didn't mean he'd admit anything though. "Oh? So you saw me do something incriminating then?" Hugo asked, smirking as he tilted his head to the side. "Sorry Jim, but you're not the first person to suspect me or my "little mates" of mischief, but without proof ... well, I'd say you have nothing to go off of. Innocent until proven guilty, you know." There was no proof. He, Sav and Adrian made sure of that when it came to all their pranks. As much as people suspected them, they'd never been tied to anything, which was part of the reason why it was so much fun. Jameson Hera Blishwick

GIVING HUGO A LONG LOOK JIMMIE WONDERED if he was being serious. By the looks of things he was and she scoffed, crossing her arms. "You don't scare easy, do you?" She said, though she already knew the answer. He had an almost unshakeable confidence that she wasn't sure if she liked. Though, she might have appreciated it more if she wasn't already trying to get under his skin. This didn't bode well for her plan to bleed a confession from him.
"You're insane," She told him, brows lifted as she looked at him disdainfully. "You're trying to do it now." Pointing an accusing finger at him, she narrowed her eyes and squared her jaw. "It won't work on me." Her scowl turned in to a confident smirk and she flipped her hair over one shoulder as she turned her nose up at him. In actuality, she was sort of playing it back on him. If she acted like she knew what he was up to, he might just think that was true. Really, she was grasping at straws.
Stepping toe-to-toe with him, Jimmie's nostrils flared. "Maybe I did." She said, crossing her arms firmly, refusing to back down. Accusing him outright hadn't been her original plan, but she wasn't good with the charm offence. This was her only hope. "I'll prove it." She said cockily, daring him with a quirk of her brows. "D'you think your mates are as strong as you are?" Uncrossing her arms she shrugged, gesturing with open hands as she added, "Are you sure they won't sell you out?" She hadn't even tried to get a confession out of his friends because they weren't that high profile. Hugo was the mastermind, she was sure of it.

Man, this whole conversation was worth it, if solely for the look on Jimmie Blishwick's face. She was obviously surprised by his response to her accusations, which to him was kind of ridiculous. Did she really think that after 6 previous years of being involved in all sorts of mischief, he wouldn't be able to hide it well? He shrugged, "Why would I scare if I haven't done anything wrong?" Hugo answered casually. He laughed when she called him insane and said he was trying to use his confidence to get her to believe him. "What can I say, I'm a confident person," he answered with a chuckle. More often than not, people gave up trying to get him to admit to things when he acted this way. Jimmie wasn't the first, and he was sure she wouldn't be the last. Her attempt to convince him that she already saw something incriminating was not convincing at all. Hugo felt certain that if she had seen him, she wouldn't be bothering with trying to get him to confess. She'd just write about it. So he was sure she didn't have anything concrete. He shrugged, "There's nothing to prove, so good luck with that." Then he laughed again. "Do you know them at all?" Hugo was trying not to be rude, but this was getting a little ridiculous. "My mates and I all have a clear record. There is no sign of wrongdoing anywhere on it and none of us want that changed, so good luck getting any of us to admit to anything. Like I said, innocent until proven guilty." They knew what they were doing. They pulled their pranks in such a way that it was all but impossible to link it to them and they had one another's backs. She wouldn't be able to change that. Jameson Hera Blishwick

WITH NO OTHER WITTY REPLY PREPARED JIMMIE had to concede that Hugo was just annoyingly cocky and cool about everything, even his academic career. "If you say so," He retorted, rolling her eyes and twisting her mouth in doubt. She didn't believe him, mostly because Jimmie couldn't fathom any seventh year being so laid back. It had to be a front, but like his pranking career, he kept it locked up tight.
Scoffing, she scowled at his boldness. The way he joked about it as if she wasn't calling him out. He wasn't the least bit ruffled and Jimmie was beginning to get flustered. "Everybody knows you do this sort of thing," She snapped, her face turning a light shade of pink. She was pointing her finger at him now, her eyes narrowed slightly. "Just because you've never been caught doesn't mean you're innocent." But he hadn't said they were innocent, he'd just said 'until proven guilty'.
Stepping back, Jimmie pulled herself together quickly. She shook her hair over her shoulder, pasted a stiff smile on her face and raised her eyebrows. "I'm going to do an article about that prank whether you like it or not," She told him primly, her smile turning in to a bit of a smirk, though it was all bravado. "You don't have to admit it for people to believe me." This had no integrity, which Jimmie was trying to keep for the most part. "And the first people I'm going to name are your mates," She turned her back and marched down the hallway away from him, but not before adding over her shoulder, "I wonder how loyal they'll be then."

Hugo's grin grew more into a smirk at Jimmie's words. Apparently she didn't have anything to say to that, which he found very amusing. Did she really think he was just going to come out and admit all his feelings to her? He barely knew her. Besides, his grades were just fine. He'd never really struggled in school and he didn't plan on doing it this year. She was still accusing him about the pranks, getting flustered now and Hugo found it much more amusing than he probably should. He shrugged, "Everyone suspects," he corrected her lightly. "As I already told you, no one has actually caught me or my mates doing anything we shouldn't, and I couldn't care less what people suspect me of." He laughed when she started pointing at him, "No, but just because you think I've done misdeeds here at school doesn't mean I have either. Without evidence, there's nothing to go on." Hugo knew he was baiting her, but he couldn't help it. She came up to him, so confident that she was going to get a confession. Obviously she didn't know how these things worked. It wasn't long before Jimmie seemed to get control of herself. She said that she'd do an article whether he liked it or not and Hugo shrugged, not really caring. "You can write whatever you want, but if you write things without proof you'd better prepare yourself for the consequences. Because I can go to whoever is above you and complain about your accusations. If you had evidence that I did something wrong, that wouldn't matter, but without anything ..." Hugo trailed off suggestively. He honestly didn't care if she printed something about him. "My mates would come and complain right along-side me. If they care enough to take the time to. Honestly, I'm pretty sure none of us care what is printed. The entire school knows the paper is rubbish anyway." His last phrase was said casually, like it was common knowledge, and he said it just to bother Jimmie. Hugo didn't care what was in the paper, he knew lots of people that didn't care either. If other people did, that was their problem. Jameson Hera Blishwick

JIMMIE SUDDENLY FOUND HUGO'S CONFIDENCE quite a bit more arrogant than she had before. Of course, that could have had something to do with the fact that he'd caught her out. She didn't have proof and she couldn't reasonably print anything without something. Of course, that didn't stop her from threatening as such, but Hugo had a retort ready and waiting. Her mouth opened and then closed again, a tension in her shoulders as she felt anger and frustration well inside of her.
"Fine," She snapped, nostrils flaring. "I don't have to name you for people to know-" But, Jimmie's voice cut off as Hugo very casually dismissed the entire school newspaper. There was a beat of silence where she simply stared at him, deeply insulted and boiling with anger. He'd called it 'rubbish' of all things. Which Jimmie disagreed with completely, it had been rubbish until Grey had shook it up and remade it. With all the effort she and the rest of the team put in now that he had graduated, Jimmie had been certain that this wasn't the case any longer. But, Hugo was popular, he could spread a message like that and make it true.
Her pale face suddenly scarlet, Jimmie's mouth was dry as she stepped ominously close to Hugo. "You know," She said, her voice dangerously soft. "As someone who everybody seems to like..." Her hands curled in to fists as she tilted her chin up at him, her eyes wide and glistening. "You truly are undeniably awful." And her eyes suddenly welled with tears as she whipped around and stormed away from him, hoping he hadn't seen, her shoulders tense and her mouth pursed as she swiped her curled fists against her eyes and practically ran around the corner of the hallway to get away from him. Unfortunately, Jimmie couldn't help but cry when she was angry enough.

It was interesting to see the changes in Jimmie as they continued to talk. Obviously she was expecting some kind of confession from him and was annoyed by the fact that he wasn't cooperating, while Hugo was quite surprised by the fact that she expected him to admit to any of his pranks. Did she not know that he had a clean record. At first, it started out funny, almost like some kind of joke, but the more the conversation pressed on and the more the younger student pushed, Hugo started to get more and more annoyed, which wasn't a good thing. He had a tendency to speak without thinking when he got annoyed. He nodded sharply when Jimmie gave in, saying she didn't have to name him in order for people to know who she was talking about. That was true enough, and it seemed like she finally might start to back down, but he hadn't been done. When he finished, saying that the paper was rubbish, he could tell that perhaps he'd crossed a line. While part of him felt like Jimmie deserved it, the other part started feeling a little guilty. She was red now, her voice soft and angry as she looked up at him, fury in her eyes. Hugo looked down at her, his expression entirely blank. He hadn't decided if he was going to apologize or not, that kind of depended on what she was about to say, so he didn't want to give anything away. Then she was saying that he was awful before turning and running away from him. Hugo stared for a moment, taken completely before surprise before he started rushing after her. Obviously, he'd hurt her way more than he meant to. "Jimmie," he spoke to let her know that he'd followed her. He tried to move so he was standing in front of her, "I'm sorry. I didn't really mean that, I was just annoyed." He gave a tentative smile. "I actually do read the paper, and I find quite a bit of it more than interesting." He didn't know if she'd listen to him, much less believe him, but he really hadn't meant to hurt her feelings like that and Hugo was the type of person who didn't really like people being angry at him either unless they deserved it. She definitely didn't. Jameson Hera Blishwick

STORMING OFF WAS NOT THE WAY THAT JIMMIE liked to end an argument, but he'd touched on a subject that she had reacted to strongly. Jimmie knew the paper was good, why had she gotten upset? Because he'd cornered her and she'd lost? It was possible, but she refused to acknowledge this as she marched down the hallway away from Hugo, her arms swinging angrily. Though she heard him in hot pursuit, she didn't slow her pace, afraid that he might see the red in her eyes. The last thing she wanted was for a rumour like that to find ears.
However, despite her speed, Hugo seemed to catch up easily. She saw him in her peripheral, but she didn't look at him. Jimmie couldn't bear to give him the satisfaction of her attention, and she would have continued in silence if she wasn't still simmering with barely contained rage. She skidded to a halt and turned, curling her fist in the arm of his robe and tugging it angrily to get his attention. "I don't need your pity," She sneered, though she hated how composed he appeared in comparison to her. She shoved him a little as she let go of his robes, her hands dropping to curled fists at her sides.
"I know the paper is good!" She whisper-yelled at him, looking around to make sure they hadn't garnered an audience. Luckily, it was much too late for wandering students. And the ones they did find were to be shepherded off to bed, that was the point of their rounds. Even if they had both forgotten. "And I also know you're a liar," She pointed her finger at him, rising on her tip-toes with every point she made. "About the paper and the pranks!" The redness in her cheeks was unmistakable, stark against her pale hair and purple lipstick. With her finger still waggling at him as she snorted drily. "I just didn't know you were a prat, too."
Leaning back, Jimmie turned with a flick of her hair and walked off, slower this time, her nose in the air. "I'd rather do my rounds alone," She declared snootily, crossing her arm and leaving him behind. "I've decided that I don't care for you much." He was head boy, and she had no power over him or who he decided to patrol with. But, she truly wished never to be paired with him again. Jimmie had a way of holding a grudge; fiercely and without mercy.
