Lusie couldn’t help but giggle as he gave suggestions for things that she could say in place of swearing. She wasn’t sure why she was afraid or uncomfortable to swear. Maybe because she knew that if she were at home, she’d be scolded for it, it wasn’t proper language. But at school, she was in the clear, it still wasn’t something she was comfortable with, though. He was being so silly while suggesting words and she loved being around him, especially like this. It was so easy to talk to him and their interactions were so easy. “I like fiddlesticks.” she decided, firmly, but then giggled again. If only she actually remembered it.
He was impressed that she spoke 5 languages, and honestly, she kind of expected him to be. It wasn’t something you saw everyday. A lot of people spoke 2 languages, some spoke 3, but beyond that, it was fairly irregular to find in the wild. “English, Spanish, French, German, and Latin.” she explained when he asked which ones she spoke. “And I’m learning Italian. I plan to be fluent by the end of the summer holidays.” she wanted to, if she was allowed, to spend her summer in Italy, working on her language skills. Maybe she could get Ed to go with her. Maybe their mother would like to go too. He said that he was thinking of going into magizoology or healing like she had been thinking, but he was also considering veterinary medicine. “Like muggle veterinary work?” she asked curiously. “My sister works in magizoology now, she loves it.” Lusie told him. “What made you interested in that?” she questioned. She then let out a slightly relieved sigh when he asked if she was sick of the question he had asked. “Immensely so.” she admitted. “But it’s fine, really. I just keep having family members ask. Everyone seems to think that we, at 16, need to know what we want to spend the rest of our lives doing. It’s annoying, isn’t it?” he asked, wondering if he felt the same way that she did about it.

@lusie | Note: i can never think of titles... |
"I like fiddlesticks, too." Toby agreed with a solid nod and chuckle. When she giggled about the word 'fiddlesticks', that was when he realized that he liked the sound of her laugh. A part of him almost forgot that a couple of days ago she was bleeding all over the greenhouse floor. At least it seemed like Lusie had forgiven him, or more likely never blamed him to begin with, but that didn't stop Toby from feeling guilty.
It was safe to say that Lusie was a bit of an overachiever, just like him. Five languages was very impressive. His measly two had him feeling like a downright slacker about now. But Toby truly enjoyed how easy she was to talk to, they seemed to have a lot of common interests. Toby turned to Lusie, a burst of confidence coming over him. She probably wouldn't mind a bit of verbal stimulation. "Je peux parler un peu français. Aimez-vous voyager?" he asked, shooting her a smile. Might as well get a bit of practice when available.
His head nodded up and down with a smile when Lusie curiously asked about the veterinary work. She shared that her sister had taken a career path involving Magiczoology. "Yes, exactly. I think it would be cool to learn more about biology and Muggle sciences." Toby shared, aware that she would know of these topics since she was Muggle royalty. These weren't topics that witches and wizards normally cared about on a day to day basis, but he liked learning, especially about animals and living things.
Toby pursed his lips as his face took over a thoughtful expression when she asked what got him interested in that career path. No one had actually asked him that before, he liked that question. His head cocked to the side, but snapped back into a more proper straight position when he made his final decision. His warm brown eyes met Lusies and he actually didn't feel awkward, "Well, I have always loved animals... like to the point where I would drive my parents mad by finding strays, or injured animals, and bringing them home and begging to keep them..." He answered honestly, tearing his eyes down to the floor. A wave of bashfulness started to overcome him, but then he realized that wasn't really a bad thing, so he kind of laughed and shrugged it off. "Animals are better than people, they complain a lot less." he snorted.
Lusie also seemed to be experiencing the sixth year woes. The dreaded career path question would slowly kill them all. "It's pretty messed up really." Toby agreed, nodding his head at her in fervent agreement. "I can barely decide what to eat half of the time." Toby jested, "But don't worry too much about it. If your first or second choice doesn't work out, I'm an owl away. We can just stick to the life of taming Snargaluffs." he said, his voice oozing with a playful sarcasm.

He spoke French to her and she found herself impressed. She knew it was common for people to speak two languages, it was becoming increasingly common and parents were often trying to teach their children a second language while they grew up. However, it wasn’t common that she explained that she spoke multiple languages and then someone started to talk to her in another language. Gilderoy had told her that he wanted to learn French and asked her to teach him, she said she would try but she wasn’t sure she actually would. “C'est très impressionnant. Oui, j'aime voyager. Bien que j'aime aussi être à la maison.” (That is very impressive. Yes, I do enjoy travel. Though i also like to be home.) she said in reply, wondering if she was speaking too quickly or using any words he didn’t understand. He had said that he only spoke French a little bit, she didn’t want to overwhelm or scare him.
“Oh absolutely! That’s amazing.” she agreed eagerly. She liked that he also wanted a career in the muggle world, one that involved further schooling than what they were getting here at Hogwarts. She often thought about trying to go to a muggle university after she graduated Hogwarts, she knew with her name she could get in anywhere, but did she really want to? “What made you want to take a muggle path?” she asked. She wasn’t sure what his blood status was, she never asked or thought to ask. It didn’t really matter to her. He explained that he was always rescuing animals as a child and driving his parents crazy with him always bringing home strays. “Animals are definitely better than people.” Lusie couldn’t agree more. She loved people, but she loved animals more. She was so happy that Susan got to work with them all day. She thought about working with Animals too, but she knew she wouldn’t have the heart if they died or got sick. Lusie laughed at his sarcasm about them just working with Snargaluffs in the future. She rolled her eyes. “I think I’ll stick with politics.” she teased.

When Lusie spoke back to him in French, his face flickered with concentration as he tried to put her sentence together. He understood exactly what she said. Sometimes he just wasn't sure how or what to say back; he had enough trouble speaking in his native tongue. But with Lusie, it was easy, she was a genuinely sweet young lady. "Où se trouve le cœur, là est la maison" he said with a smile, not expecting an answer. He definitely preferred being home over travel too, partially because he wasn't at home much due to being at Hogwarts most of the time.
His face brightened ever so slightly when she told him that his career choices were 'amazing'. It took everything in him not to get all awkward and weird right there, and he felt like he handled it okay for now. Toby smiled, "Ha, thanks Lusie." he said bashfully, eyes tearing down to the floor, before she asked him about what made him want to pursue the Muggle path. "I just really like learning." he laughed awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck with a shrug. He was pretty sure he'd be a student for as long as he could, there was so much more he wanted to learn. He figured he could be honest with Lusie, she wasn't the type to judge him for being a dork, or for blood purity. "We don't have the opportunity to learn about that kind of stuff here, so it made me want to check out Muggle universities too." he shared honestly, before adding thoughtfully, "If I could somehow do both at the same time I would but that sounds a bit excessive."
Lusie rolled her eyes at his joke about them taming Snargaluffs for a living as a fallback plan. Her reaction time was too good. It made Toby laugh out loud, nodding his head in firm agreement. "Wise choice." he breathed, "We'll leave the man eating plants to the pros. Although, I reckon you may be able to communicate with the Snargaluffs too, mate...since ya got a knack for languages, maybe you could get through to them." he tapped his noggin with his pointer finger comically with a playful tone. More to flatter her more than anything. Toby knew it wasn't possible to talk to Snargaluffs, it was just fun to joke about it to hear Lusie giggle. That was definitely a perk.

He answered her, saying, home was where the heart is. Lusie nodded. Though she sometimes wondered where her home really was. Most people had one house. She had several, she had an apartment and a castle in London, and a house where she grew up with her parents and her siblings when they were young. A house where her mother still lived most of the time, at least when the kids weren’t around. The kids often liked to be in the city. Lusie probably would say she felt the most at home in the castle. She spent the most time there. Though, Hogwarts felt a bit more like home than her actual castle did. “Oui.” Lusie gave a nod in agreement, not wanting to push him further, not knowing how much more he knew and not wanting to accidentally embarrass him or come across like she was boasting her skills.
Lusie almost couldn’t believe her eyes. Without realizing it, she had met someone who thought the same way that she did. He loved to learn, so did the Hufflepuff girl. She loved school. She didn’t always care about her grades, she just liked to get the information and to learn new things. Lusie had a strong desire to go to muggle university and to learn more, she hadn’t met many people who shared that ideal. “I totally understand that - I think a lot about attending a muggle university too.” she admitted, not trying to make it about herself, but trying to assure him that he wasn’t alone in his plan. He made a comment about Lusie being able to communicate with plants and she scoffed lightly. “I don’t know if they have a set language. I would hate to be able to talk to plants. Imagine being able to talk to plants and trying to eat a salad…” the idea confused her and made her a little sad.

Toby was having a blast talking with Lusie, he never realized how much they had in common until today. He really enjoying talking to her. As a matter of fact, he was so absorbed in their conversation that he hadn’t noticed the classroom fill with students in the meantime. Toby was kind of relieved she didn’t spurt anymore French back at him, he was surprised he wasn’t as rusty as he thought but it definitely didn’t come easily. Toby would have to keep in mind that Lusie would be an excellent person to practice with if he was ever in the mood, although he’d probably be too shy to ask.
When Lusie shared that she was also considering attending a Muggle university, he cocked his head to the side with interest. Not many kids their age were interested in taking the Muggle path, but Lusie was technically Muggle royalty, so that wasn’t too far fetched. She could do anything she wanted to do if she put her mind to it. Toby smiled when she mentioned that she had also considered attending Muggle university, “That’s great, Lusie. Have you ever considered studying abroad to put those languages to good use?” Toby inquired, still very curious about what Lusie had to say about the subject, he was basically a morbid dork who enjoyed school and it seemed that Lusie had a mutual thirst for knowledge, so they could probably talk about school for hours.
When she joked about plants not having a specific language, he laughed out loud, obviously tickled by her joke. She had a great sense of humor, he wanted to play along. His warm brown eyes widening slightly before narrowing at her for comical affect, ”Now imagine if animals could talk, as well as plants. What side would you choose?” Toby asked, more jokingly than anything, but eager for an answer. It was like a messed of version of “would you rather”, his favorite game to pass time.

They continued to talk as students filled the room, there still seemed to be a few minutes before the start of class, Lusie remembered that she had been to class early and he had been there even before she walked in. It wasn’t entirely uncommon for Lusie to be in class way earlier than everyone else. She tended to go straight from one class to another without worrying about trying to socialize or anything during the passing period. She tended to carry all her books on her, and would only stop in the common room during lunch or her free periods to drop books off and get new ones. She was so afraid of being late that she was happy to be ages early. He asked if she had ever thought about studying in another country and the Princess shrugged. “It could be fun, though it's difficult because most countries have different educational systems with different requirements and qualifications.” she explained, though she was sure that he already knew that. “I’d look into it, though.” she admitted. “Do you have an idea of where you would like to study if you decide to go to University?” she asked.
The last question he gave to her left her with a furrowed brow. How was she supposed to choose between plants and animals? She knew the question was a joke for fun and he likely wouldn’t judge her seriously for making her choice, but it was still a tough moral question. “If I had to choose whom to eat, I think it’d be plants.” she said with a shrug. “I don’t think i could eat an animal if they could talk too. At least plants don’t have eyes.” she teased. “Which would you pick?” she asked.

Toby considered her question about schooling. He answered after a second because it was something he had thought about a lot recently. "Probably University of London, because I read on the internet one time that they have an excellent veterinary program. I also feel like it would be easier to blend in with the Muggles there since I grew up in the surrounding area." Toby honestly answered her question, already feeling like he was oversharing, probably because he rarely he talked about himself so much. He despised talking about himself more than anything, it was something he dreaded in class every day. With Lusie, it was incredibly easy though. It didn't feel forced and he really enjoyed her presence. Toby thought about his last 'blending in' comment after it left his lips, she was probably familiar with that feeling. He tilted his head toward the brunette, "Do you ever find it difficult hiding your magic from Muggles?" Toby asked her curiously, happy to shift the conversation, but he was also very curious. Being a witch or wizard in a Muggle world had to be incredibly challenging, especially since she was born a princess constantly in the public eye - Muggle and Magical world alike.
When Lusie answered his question, his lips twitched into a smile, before bursting into light laughter. "That's a great point, and very morbid." Toby said, keeping a playful tone with a funny face. He was satisfied with her answer though, it was very cute. Toby nodded his head solidly, not having to think much about his answer. "But I agree with you, I would definitely choose to eat plants too. Less cute. And I prefer my food not to stare back at me." Toby snorted, shaking his head at Lusie comically, "Dang, Lusie, now you're making me hungry." he said sarcastically, although now he found himself suddenly questioning the morale of his meat eater diet. He loved animals, but he also loved eating them more. Opps. Morbid thought.

Toby answered her question rather easily, he admitted that he had thought about going to University of London because it had a good program for what he wanted to go into and because it was somewhere that he knew well. She nodded, it all made sense. She was glad that he had some sort of aspirations. She liked that about him, he didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life, but he had loose plans. She was the same way. She didn’t however, mention that she was pretty sure if she went anywhere she would go to Oxford. She rarely liked to use the influence that came with being muggle royalty, but she knew that this was one of the things that was the most worth it and almost expected. None of her siblings went to University, the public might think it was odd if none of them went. It was almost expected of most royalty. “Sometimes. Yes. Especially in the castle at home. There are wings in which only the family are allowed, but there are still always staff lurking around. And while the family knows, the staff don’t. So we have to be careful, even at home.” she explained, knowing that it was a problem that surely she was the only one who faced. Not many people had staff in their homes like she did. "Are your parents Wizards?" she asked, realizing she had no idea what sort of family he came from. He agreed with her decision and then laughed that she was making him hungry. “Well just don’t try to eat any of the plants in the lesson today. Some of them might kill you.” she teased back.

"Yes, my mum is a Muggleborn, she's a Healer, and my paps is a Halfblood. He's a publicist for the Daily Prophet.." he shared, ready to ask her another question, but suddenly he felt eyes onhim. Toby was so absorbed in their conversation that he hadn't even noticed the teacher standing at the front of the classroom with an annoyed look, trying to get their attention. Lucy made a joke about not eating the plants today right before he noticed the teacher... Unfortunately, Toby had a rare moment of confidence, because his lips were inches away from biting into a Mandrake leaf. Well, until he made awkward eye contact with the professor. They shot him a impatient look. "Mr Watkins please refrain from eating the Mandrake and pay attention." she barked. Toby shot up in his seat, his knee kicked the table out of a uncontrollable reflex. "Oh, f--iddlesticks." he fumbled his words, his entire face going beat red with a grimace. Toby hated having all eyes on him and now the class was laughing at him again. Since when did he become a class clown this week? He wasn't used to this! Toby turned to Lusie, his lips threatening to twitch into a smile. "Sorry.." he said quickly, turning his body so that he was facing the teacher.
