Joe was pissed. He desperately wanted to punch something to release the anger, but he knew he couldn't. Ashley was losing her freaking mind!! The flirtatious display in the courtyard less than ten minutes ago had him seeing a violent shade of red and he couldn't shake it. Joe knew what she was doing. She was trying to piss him off by flirting with a 'random' guy, because he basically ignored her for another girl. That girl being Kinsey. She certainly did an excellent job at choosing the most unavailable person at Hogwarts to flirt with. Her dumbass chose Riley freakin' Fudge. Joe didn't know if Ashley knew the damage that she had caused, but he would be sure to let her know now. Kinsey was upset and it was all Ashleys fault.
After Ashley took off from the courtyard, he figured she'd probably take harbor in the Slytherin common room to hide from everyone. Well, much to his satisfaction, she was right where he anticipated. Ashley was making her way towards the dungeons leading to the Slytherin common room. Joe descended the last of the stairs, taking two at a time. "HEY!" Joe barked, heavy footsteps approaching her from behind to grab her by the elbow, harder than he intended. "What the hell was that, Ash?" he asked her loudly, his voice echoing off of the dungeon walls. He didn't care who heard or saw them air out their dirty laundry. Joe's eyebrows furrowed at the center of forehead into a very angry expression, he was red, and fuming.

Ashley was fully aware of the fact that Joe was angry with her. She'd known that before she left the courtyard a few minutes ago. Okay, she knew that the second she could sense his eyes on her. Honestly, when she'd glanced at him before leaving he looked beyond furious. It was interesting. Even though that was exactly the kind of reaction she was going for, she didn't expect it to be so easy or so intense. She'd flirted with tons of guys before, and while Joe never liked it she could sense that this time was different somehow. It was weird.
Even more than that, he hadn't chased her from the courtyard. She'd expected him to follow right after her, but he hadn't, which made her mood turn even more sour. Not only did Eli potentially see her flirting with that Riley kid, her brother didn't even care! Sure, he was mad, but not mad enough to leave the brunette to talk to her. Pointless.
So she was more surprised than she meant to be when she heard her brother shout "hey" at her. Ashley spun around in the corridor, though part of that was helped by the fact that he grabbed her elbow, making her face him. She glared right back at him, not caring about the scene they were about to create. "I could ask you the same question!" Ashley shot back, giving no explanation for her words. If he hadn't figured out why she did what she did or why she was mad at him, her brother was a lost cause. Though she was starting to wonder whether he already was one. Either way, she wasn't going to just stand there and take his crap.

Joe couldn't believe his sister. What the hell was her problem? He didn't understand what he had done to make her have such a bad attitude with him right now. All he wanted to do was understand what just happened, but he couldn't stand his sister when she was being a spoiled brat.
His eyes rolled to the back of his skull when she told him that she could ask him the same thing. How dare she! His lips formed a straight line, eyes narrowing on the blond with a disgusted look. "Why're you being such a bitch?" Joe barked harshly, not holding back now. He was ready to duke it out in the hallways in front of everyone. His voice raised above a normal conversational tone, only to entice passersby to look at them. Joe took a step toward her, his face in hers, "You wanna air our dirty laundry out in front of the entire school, like old times, go right ahead...we can go back to the courtyard if you prefer a larger audience." Joe challenged her in a jerky-combative tone, curious to how she would react to him.

Ashley didn't even need to look at her brother to know that he was furious with her. Of course he was. She just flirted with some guy in front of him, but this was even extreme for him. Yelling at her in the hallway? Wow, Joe. That was really classy. She glared at him when he yelled at her, not deigning to answer him, knowing that would probably infuriate him more and relishing in the fact. Whatever it was that made him react this strongly to her previous actions, it was ridiculous. If she gave him what he wanted and started yelling back at him, he'd think he could do this whenever.
He stepped closer, talking right into her face now as he demanded to know if she wanted to air their laundry out in front of everyone, inviting her to go back to the courtyard. Her gaze hardened, showing no weakness as he taunted her. "You know what? I think I'd rather not talk to you at all right now," she retorted, glaring into his eyes for a moment before turning away. "You're obviously pissed enough that I'll just be wrong no matter what I say." She waved an arm at him, turning down a random corner that actually would take them out of the public eye, if he followed. In all honesty, Ashley wasn't sure what to expect from Joe right now. She couldn't remember the last time she'd seen him like this.
Still, once she turned the corner, she spun around and spat, "What in Merlin's name was that, Joe!? I know I made you angry, but you really want to make a huge scene in front of everyone about it?!" There, now that they weren't in the middle of the public, the two of them could really let loose and she could figure out why he was so mad at her this time as opposed to all the others. It wasn't like she didn't something entirely out of the random. Why was his reaction so strong?

Joe hated fighting with Ashley, it took so much energy from him trying to battle his sister. When they got along, they had complete harmony, but when they were at each other’s throats? It was world war 3 in the Fontaine household. It didn’t help that they were both extremely hard headed and stubborn.
She told him that she didn’t want to talk to him when he was like this.. As if he cared what she even wanted... ”I’m gonna follow you anyways.” Joe told her as matter of factly, rolling his eyes to the back of his skull, shaking his head at his sister. Sometimes she was so stupid! Joe followed behind her closely when she walked down another corridor, looking to get away from any spectators. “You should be embarrassed for throwing yourself all over someone who is engaged to be married.” Joe told her, quite dramatically, trying to make his words sting her.

Ashley wasn't looking at her brother, but she rolled her eyes when he said he was going to follow her anyway. Duh. That was obviously the point of the whole thing. Joe might be perfectly okay fighting in front of a bunch of spectators, but Ashley didn't want to do that right now. She'd much rather argue with him in private. Since she knew a fight was coming, she just made her way to somewhere a little more discreet. Privacy was exactly what she was going for, not getting away from him, but she knew saying so would likely just irk her brother further, so she didn't say anything to him about it.
She was slightly surprised when Joe announced that the guy she flirted with- Riley, wasn't it?- was engaged to be married. Why were those last three words necessary? Was there a different meaning for engaged that Joe thought would confuse her. Ashley barely resisted the temptation to roll her eyes again. Still, she shrugged, not affected in the slightest by his dramatic explanation of what she'd done wrong. "So? I wasn't flirting with him because I like him Joe. I didn't even do anything all that bad. I didn't try to kiss him or pretend like I was falling to trick him into catching me or anything. Just brushed some nothing off of his shoulder. That hardly counts as "throwing myself" all over him. Honestly," she rolled her eyes at how thick her brother was being. The entire point of the flirting wasn't for Riley. It was for Joe and the flirting did just what she wanted it to. She got his attention.

Joe stared at his sister with an unbelievable look, he couldn’t believe how much of a brat she was sometimes. His green eyes narrowed on his sister, “I know you did it to piss me off, Ashley.” He told her, gritting his teeth with a tense jaw. Joe tried to keep a steady voice, his nostrils were flaring. ”Not only did you piss me off like you wanted, good job... You upset Kinsey by doing whatever the hell you were doing over there...” Joe told her, referring to Kinsey to try to make her feel bad. That was what he was mostly ticked off about. He was feeling very protective over Kinseys emotions for some reason. Which was odd.. considering Joe didn’t care about many people other than himself. Maybe he was growing up a little... just maybe.

It was almost amusing, the look on Joe's face after Ashley answered him. What? He really thought she'd be embarrassed for flirting with someone just to get his attention? Obviously he didn't know her as well as he used to, or he was just distracted with that girl again. She lifted an eyebrow at him when he said that she did it to upset him. Duh. She shrugged a little, waiting for him to blow up more at her. That couldn't be all he wanted to say. She knew he was frustrated enough that he should have more. He didn't disappoint her. She smirked when he continued, saying that she pissed him off and also upset Kinsey. Did he really think that would make her feel bad. She couldn't care less about the brunette beauty who stole all her brother's attention lately.
"Oh, so that's Kinsey," she said, not even trying to appear repentant before continuing with a hardness to her tone. "You mean, the girl you spend most of your time with now-a-days?" Ashley quirked her head to the side a little, a sarcastic smile playing at the corners of her lips. "You expect me to feel bad that a total stranger is upset when you don't even care that you totally blew off your sister for her today? Huh, nice to see where I play into things," she exhaled sharply, getting angrier at her brother the more she thought about it.

Joe found himself getting increasingly more irritated by Ashley. He didn't understand why she was such an attention whore sometimes. It was especially annoying when she was seeking his attention. Joe didn't realize that was what she was doing until she confirmed it and started talking about Kinsey, unphased by the Ravenclaw. Joe was instantly ignited, his face going red. He didn't want to show his sister that she was right! Joe huffed in a breath of air, raking his fingers through his hair. "I said I would be right back. I wasn't ditching you." Joe grumbled, thoroughly agitated. He wanted to physically shake her. Joe couldn't look at her because he didn't want her to see how mad he was. Joe was instantly triggered when the blonde spoke about Kinsey, so he felt the need to turn it around back to her again. "I hope your thirst for attention was satisfied. I was asking Kinsey for help with my homework, I wasn't blowing you off." Joe said defensively, his jaw tight and lips formed a straight line.

Joe was mad at her. That was no surprise to Ashley, especially when she learned that the girl he'd gone to see was Kinsey. Of course he'd be annoyed that she upset the other girl. Ashley would probably feel bad about that later, but right now she couldn't care less. She watched her brother's face turn red. He was trying to calm down, or something, taking a deep breath and messing with his hair. Ash rolled her eyes. When he spoke, saying he wasn't ditching her, she barked out a sarcastic laugh. "Yeah right. You wouldn't even look at me! You barely hugged me and didn't even say ten words to me before walking away." She glared at her brother. He started to turn it on Ash again, but she wouldn't have it. "My thirst for attention?! Really Joe? We haven't talked for weeks and the first time I come up to you to talk because I actually miss my older brother, you walk off and I'm suddenly the one who's "thirsty" for attention?! You could have told me that you needed to talk to someone really fast, but you didn't, you just ignored me and walked away." She threw her hands up, shaking her head in frustration. "You know what, so much for me approaching you when I miss you, Joe. Don't worry, I won't do it again." Ashley clenched her teeth as she turned to walk away. Yes, she knew that she probably overreacted to him just walking away, but she didn't care. Not right now. She was too angry.

Joe tried to refrain from allowing his face to falter when Ashley started talking. Her words starting to sting now since he truly didn’t feel like he was in the wrong until she really started to yell at him. When he listened to his sister express her feelings, he was surprisingly quiet, clenching his jaw hard so he wouldn’t talk over her. Something he wouldn’t have cared about a year ago. He was trying, he truly was.
Now he was starting to think maybe he didn’t give her enough details before running off to Kinsey... and she was right that they hadn’t really seen each other much lately. Joes mouth went dry and he felt his stomach tighten as she started to turn and walk away. He didn’t want to let her win this argument and chase after her like he swore he wouldn’t...but the fact that she confessed that she missed him and he basically pushed her away, hurt him. He knew he needed to man up and fix the problem before it got worse, he loved his sister too much.
Joe took a deep breath into his chest before taking a couple of steps toward the blonde, grabbing her hand to stop her from walking away, but not overly forceful or dramatic. ”Ash, wait.” he begged, his tone lacking the harshness from before. ”I’m sorry. I have been really busy trying to get caught up, and with quidditch, and everything else, I barely know what’s going on anymore. I honestly didn’t mean to blow you off, okay? I’m sorry.” he told her with the most earnest tone that he could muster, taking a lot of effort to himself from sounding defensive or angry. This was already taking too much energy from his day.

Ashley was honestly too annoyed at her older brother to really pay attention to him right now. She didn't notice his change of attitude, didn't notice how quiet he was or how his jaw was clenched. She didn't care. She was taking these moments to get her thoughts and emotions out and then she'd just leave. Obviously he wouldn't really listen or care. All he seemed to care about anymore was Kinsey and she wasn't going to try and change that again. Ashley wasn't the type who took rejection well, at all. Even from her own brother.
She honestly didn't expect him to react in any way when she turned to walk away, except maybe shouting something at her. Joe wasn't good at letting someone else have the last word, so she fully expected him to try and take it now. What she didn't expect was for her to stop her and ask her to wait, the anger entirely absent from his tone. Ashley turned around instantly, a hesitant look on her face. What was he going to do now? Her mouth actually fell open when he apologized. She listened in stunned silence as he continued, saying that he was busy with Quidditch and trying to catch up and that he didn't mean to upset her. He was apologizing? Ashley could hardly believe her ears.
Ashley found herself nodding slowly, believing him. She looked away, muttering a soft, "It's okay. I ... I'm sorry too. I overreacted and," she looked back up to her brother, "and I really wasn't trying to hurt anyone, even your friend. I just wanted your attention." Ashley felt like an idiot admitting it, but she couldn't help herself. Joe was being very honest with her, so she would return the favor. Her eyebrows furrowed, "Since when does school stress you out though? I didn't know that was a thing." Maybe she wasn't being a very good sister either.

Joe was quickly filled with relief when his sister nodded back at him, seeming to understand his struggle and accepting his apology. For a moment, he was almost taken aback by it, but he wasn't going to question her about it. He was glad they were getting better at communicating with each other and working out their differences. Ashley admitted to doing it all for attention, which annoyed him a bit, but it was nice to hear her say it out loud. "It's okay, Ash. I get it. I'm sorry you fou felt like you had to flirt with engaged dorks to get my attention." he told her teasingly at the end, but only to lighten the situation. Joe gave her a quick hug. "I'm sorry though too, I could have told you or invited you over to talk to Kinsey, I just wasn't thinking about it." Joe apologized, again, but only to make sure that they were really good. When she asked about him caring about school now, he shrugged with a defeated sigh, "School is so much harder here." he grumbled through his teeth. The look on his face showed that he hated admitting to the fact, but this year had been a complete struggle for him. No wonder why the sorting hat didn't sort him as Ravenclaw, despite him being a Horned Serpent at Ilvermorny.

Ashley was definitely more relieved than she'd admit when Joe said that it was okay. He teasingly apologized and she rolled her eyes at him. "You're so funny, Joe," she retorted, though she couldn't stop the smile from slipping onto her face. It seemed that they were getting back into a more comfortable feel with one another and she was glad. While she loved fighting with Joe when they were younger, she definitely didn't enjoy it very much anymore. She much preferred to be on good terms with him. She nodded, moving forward to give him a quick, tight hug. It wasn't really something the two did a lot, but it seemed to fit with the moment so she went with her gut. "It's okay, really," Ash muttered before pulling away. She appreciated that he was trying to understand her point of view. Even if it was all for show and he was still annoyed at her, he was trying to keep the peace. She frowned a little when he said that school was harder here. "Really?" Maybe she was taking all the easy classes, though she didn't really think so. "I'm sorry it's harder. What classes are giving you trouble?" Hopefully he wouldn't say all of them. That would definitely be hard and then she'd feel worse for getting so upset about him wanting to talk to Kinsey.

It seemed that Ashley really was sympathizing for him. Joe was grateful for that. Before talking one on one with her, he had a feeling like there would be a lot more yelling, but they already exchanged a hug and a laugh.. So, that was a great sign. Joe took a breath in before exhaling when Ashley asked about what classes were hardest. "Arithmancy has been the biggest struggle for me. I hate all forms of Divination, I don't know what I was thinking when I signed up for it...it's all charts and numbers. It's so stupid." he grumbled, getting slightly annoyed the more he talked about it. Joe knew that he could complain around Ashley, she was used to it. Usually she'd tell him to 'get over it' in true valley girl fashion. "Ugh, and don't get me started with Alchemy." He rolled his eyes, feeling stupid for his choice of electives this year. His core classes didn't even stress him out this much. Apparently he was feeling too confident in his abilities when signing up for his classes for his final year of wizarding education. At the time he didn't realize he'd be attending a completely new school, but it was all out of pride. He wanted to seem smarter than he really was. Now, he was suffering from it. Barely getting by with a passing grade...
Joe turned to his sister, feeling a lot better that they hashed out their problem in the courtyard. It felt like a small weight had been lifted off of his chest. He never really admitted his struggle with school to anyone but Kinsey. "Next year be sure you sign up for easy classes. Go for the free periods if you have the option. This is hell." he whined, knowing that he was being overdramatic, but he was venting at this point. He cocked his head to the side as if he had an idea. "All I wanna do is cook...Maybe I could just drop out." he said sarcastically, more to see what Ashley would say about the matter. Their parents would never allow that. Not if he wanted any inheritance money...
