Rosie woke up on her own on Christmas morning. It was an odd feeling to be alone on a day where she had never been alone before. Even when she chose to stay at Hogwarts for the christmas holidays, she at least had other people around. She was in a studio flat now, a rather small one, there was barely enough room for her and her cat, let another another person. But, as soon as she remembered that it was Christmas, she jumped out of her, scaring her old cat, who jumped down and strutted over to his food bowl with a glare back to her. Rosie quickly dressed and then left her apartment, grabbing her canvas tote bag full of gifts and tossing it over her shoulder.
She had meant to apparate to Brandon’s flat, however, she had been to caught up in her own thoughts and excitements for the day and ended up walking halfway there before she realized that she left the apparition point behind her. Oh well, he only lived a 20 minute walk away. Snow was falling softly but sadly wasn’t sticking to the wet concrete underfoot. Rosie basked in it nonetheless. One of the things she missed the most about Hogwarts and Scotland was the snow. At least it was likely that there would be snow in Dublin.
She walked up the stairs to his flat and knocked excitedly on the door when she got there, taking a deep breath. This was their first christmas together. Their first christmas as a couple. Her first christmas with a boy who she was bringing home to meet her father for the first time. He was meant to meet them at Graduation, but obviously that didn’t happen. He had met her mom, already, she knew. But she was excited for this real introduction.

Christmas was always an exciting time of year. At least, that was always how Brandon saw it. Children wanting to get up at the crack of dawn to see their presents, giving and receiving gifts from loved ones. He loves this time of year, but today was different than other Christmas' Brandon had experienced. He and Rosie were going to go and visit her parents. He was excited, but also very nervous. He'd met her mother once, when she came to confront him about dating her daughter, and Brandon thought he made a good impression, but did he? Would Rosie's father approve of him? He woke up much earlier than normal, unable to stop himself from worrying about what the day would bring. The good thing was he'd be spending the entire day with Rosie. He loved being with her, no matter what they were doing. She was his light, his muse and he couldn't imagine what he'd be doing without her. So, unable to sleep, Brandon did what he always did. He got up and ready for the day before he made his way to the piano, letting his fingers express his emotions through the music, though he cast a spell on the piano so it wouldn't bother sleeping people nearby. At first it was chaotic, but it quickly calmed down as his mind turned back to Rosie. Brandon was so distracted by his music that he didn't notice the light entering his apartment, didn't realize that Rosie should be arriving any minute. As a result, he jumped when he heard a knock on the door. Brandon jumped to his feet, glancing at the clock on the wall before shaking his head and hurrying to the door. This was so like him. "Hey Rosie! Merry Christmas!" He told her cheerfully, pulling her in for a tight hug. rose harriet granger-weasley

Brandon answered the door after hearing a small commotion in his flat. She could hear the music flowing out, quietly through the door. He was already up and playing this morning. She smiled as she heard it and waited for him to answer the door. When he did, she smiled at the sight. He was all ready for the day already and it made her smile. She could tell that he was likely nervous to meet her father and to spend time with her parents, but she was excited for him to do so. She wanted him to like her father and she wanted her father to like him. She couldn’t imagine, however, the two of them not getting along. “Hey! Merry Christmas.” she giggled as he pulled her to him. She hugged him back and kissed his neck softly, rather than his cheek or his lips, because in the hug that was the only place she could reach. “How are you this morning? I heard you playing.” she admitted.

Her smile was like the sun. Brandon couldn't help but think that almost every time he saw Rosie. He loved her. He loved how sweet and adorable and kind she was, loved spending his time with her. He loved how she felt in his arms, like she was right now. Being with her was perfect and happy and as he held her, Brandon's worries about meeting her father slipped away. It would all work out as long as the two of them were together. He was sure about that. He smiled when he heard her laugh, squeezing her just a little bit tighter. He closed his eyes a moment, kissing the top of her head after she kissed his neck. "I'm doing well. I couldn't really sleep late, so I got up and decided to play for a bit." That probably wasn't a surprise for her, but still he didn't mind admitting it. "You've had a good morning so far?" He released her and stepped into his apartment, pulling her along. "Are you ready to exchange presents? Or were you wanting to do that after we go to your parents?" He would do whatever she wanted, of course. Brandon was just excited to spend the day with her. rose harriet granger-weasley

Brandon explained that he couldn’t sleep so he got up early and was playing piano. She didn’t blame him, it was his thing, he was a talented musician and she could imagine that he was stressed about having to meet her parents today, he probably needed to get some anxiety out before they made the trip to Ireland for the celebration. “Yes I’ve had a fine morning, I just got ready and came here.” she told him, setting her bag down on his couch as he pulled her into the apartment and shut the door and the cold winter air out behind them. Rosie stepped into the warmth happily. Her bag was a little more full than it normally was as it held all of her presents for her family and for him. “Um, we can do them here if you want, or there, I guess it doesn’t matter… but I’m a little impatient so lets do them now.” she decided with a giggle and rosie cheeks, she just couldn’t help it. She was deliriously happy. This was the first christmas that she had a boyfriend to buy gifts for.

Rosie told him that she was fine, that all she'd really done that morning was come here once she was ready. It made sense. He was just glad that she was here. Of course, he had a tendency to lose track of time when he was playing music, but he also was just playing to pass the time until Rosie arrived. He moaned, rolling his head to the side in a teasing gesture when Rosie couldn't quite decide where she wanted to do the gifts at first. This was her thing! He didn't want to choose. Luckily, she did decide, pretty quickly, saying they should do them now. "Okay, wait right there then," he said, going into the other room and pulling out his gifts. He actually had two for her, that he had to wrap separately, even though they were connected. The first was a music box that played his song for her. The second, the original handwritten sheet music for her song, which he entitled "Rose". If everyone liked it when he made his album in January, she would have the first (and original) copy. "Here you go," Brandon said, placing the separately wrapped gifts in front of her with a wide grin on his face. rose harriet granger-weasleyChristmas Gift

Rosie was told to wait right here while her boyfriend went off and brought back the gifts that he got for her. Gifts? Plural? She had only got him one thing. She began to feel bad, maybe she could get him something else to make up for it. It probably didn’t matter at all, but she still felt a little bad. He set the two gifts down in front of her and she sat down on his couch as she started to open them. The first one was a beautiful music box and when she opened it, it played the song that he had written for her. Rosie almost felt like she was going to cry. “How did you make this?” she asked him. She had never seen something like this before. A music box, sure, this she never knew you could put your own songs in there. The second one was smaller and she opened it up carefully, pulling out the original sheet music from the song. Of course, Rosie knew nothing about music and had no idea how to read the music, but it still meant a lot. “I think I should frame these, hang them up in my flat or something, it’d look nice.” she smiled to him. So thankful to have him in her life.
She then reached into her bag and pulled his gift out. It had been right on top. It was a longer rectangular box wrapped in deep blue wrapping paper with a silver bow around it. She had got him a new, brown leather guitar strap that she had embroidered with his initials. It seemed like nothing compared to what he had gotten her. She had always thought that she was the sentimental one. “I hope you like it…” she said as she watched him open it, her eyes unblinking.

Brandon smiled as he watched Rosie's face. She looked almost mesmerized when she opened the music box. That was his favorite part of the gift. Brandon shrugged like it wasn't a big deal. "Well, I bought it from a muggle store. I asked the owner if there was any way to change the song and he told me, so I just did it." It really hadn't been that big of a deal to Brandon, but he wanted Rosie to have it. If the public ended up liking that song half as much as the two of them did, it would be a hit, and he wanted her to know that it was hers before it was anyone else's. His smile widened a bit when she said she thought she should frame the piano music. "Whatever you want. It's the original copy of the song; I just thought you should have it." He really didn't care what she did with it. He didn't need the music to be able to play it. Then Rosie pulled out her gift to him and Brandon looked at it with interest. What would she have gotten him that was so long? He opened it, eyes widening when he saw her gift. "Rosie," he muttered as he fingered the embroidery. "This is amazing! Did you do it yourself?" He pulled the guitar strap out of the bag, grinning as he looked at it better. Then he reached over to give her a big hug. "I love it." Brandon squeezed her tightly, feeling more content in that moment than he'd felt in a long time. rose harriet granger-weasley

Brandon explained to her how he went about changing the song and that the muggle man at the shop had told him how to do it. It was amazing what could be done simply with muggle technology. She had thought he’d need to have charmed it or something. Amazing. What a sentimental gift, perfect for their first Christmas together, she thought. She wished that she had thought more along those lines. He insisted that he loved her gift, but he asked if she made it and she had to shake her head, feeling a little defeated, “No, I just got it in a shop in London, they embroidered it there too.” she admitted. She should have tried to make something, though she was sure it would have been a mess if she tried, she was the least creative person she knew. He wrapped his arm around her and squeezed her anyway and she smiled, even if he wasn’t as impressed as she had been, she was glad that he was putting on a good face. And it wasn’t the gift that mattered, right? She was too far in her own head about it.

Brandon chuckled and held Rosie a little tighter when she said that she bought it from a shop. "Doesn't matter. It came from you, so I absolutely love it," he told her honestly. He loved giving things from the people he cared about most and seeing the things they thought to give him was fun to. "If I become famous, everyone will be asking me where I got it. You know, people pay attention to guitar straps and picks and stuff." He was teasing a little, but also trying to make her feel better. He loved her gift and wanted Rosie to know that. "I'll just have to tell them to ask my amazing girlfriend, since she was the one to get it." He gave her one final squeeze before releasing her. He pulled back a little, "So when do you want to go see your parents?" He'd be happy to go now, or whenever she wanted. Brandon's only plans for the day were to be with her. rose harriet granger-weasley

He tried to make her feel better by saying that when he was famous people would pay attention to his straps and picks and such. She rolled her eyes, she couldn’t imagine anyone paying attention to that sort of thing when there was an attractive boy on stage singing with playing guitar, no one was going to be looking at his guitar strap. “If you say so.” she gave in with a smile, she wasn’t really upset about it, he stilled seemed to like it, and it was the thought that went into the gift that counted anyway.
He asked when she wanted to go to her parents and she shrugged, “I suppose we should go soon, they’ll be expecting us for breakfast.” her family always went all out for Christmas breakfast. “Are you alright with floo?” she asked. She wasn’t sure whether or not he was connected to the floo network here, but they could always pop over to diagon alley and use the floo network in the Leaky Cauldron if he wasn’t connected. “It’ll be a bit more messy but I’m not too confident with side-along apparition.” and he had never been there so he couldn’t very well apparate there on his own.

Brandon couldn't help but laugh when Rosie hesitantly agreed with him. He leaned forward and gave her a tight hug. "Even if no one else notices it, I love your gift," he told her, wanting to make sure she knew. Brandon would love anything she gave him, just because of how he felt about Rosie, but her gift was thoughtful and he appreciated it. She said they should probably leave soon and Brandon nodded. A part of him was excited to meet her family, the other part extremely over. He just wanted to get there and get on with it already, even though he wouldn't mind a peaceful morning with his girlfriend. Then again, how peaceful would it be if he was worrying about meeting her parents the whole time? He still wasn't quite sure how her Mom felt about him, even after their encounter a few months ago. She probably still didn't think Brandon wasn't good enough for Rosie. He couldn't argue with that. "Yeah, floo is fine," Brandon agreed with a nod. "We can use my fireplace." He took her hand, pulling her across the room gently. "Well if you want, we don't have to apparate right to your parent's place. That way we can clean off a little before we meet them." It was all up to her. Brandon was happy to do whatever she wanted. Then he smirked, "Who do you want to go first?" If they were apparating straight to her parent's, he hoped she'd go first so he wouldn't have to wait awkwardly for her, but otherwise he didn't have a preference. He just wanted to make this a good day with her. rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie nodded as he explained that they didn’t have to take the floo network straight to her parents. “There’s a little wizarding pub in Dublin. We can go there and then we can take a car to my parents.” she agreed, it made sense and she never minded traveling via muggle transportation. She usually took the train from Dublin to London to catch the train to Hogwarts, it was difficult to use floo with her trunk and her cat. “I’ll go first and you can follow me lead.” she said, ducking to stand in his fireplace. It was never hard to use the floo network, and she was confident that he could remember the name of the place. She took a handful of power, said the name of the pub, and then threw the powder down as green flames engulfed her. Rosie was whisked aggressively through the system and came out a minute or two later in the pub in Dublin. She stepped out and started to brush herself off as she waited for her boyfriend.

Brandon was more than a little relieved when Rosie said that they could go to a pub before going to her parents. Sure, he was looking forward to meeting her parents (with her present this time), but it was an even bigger relief that he wouldn't have to go there looking like a mess. He could clean up a little in the pub if he needed to. "That sounds great, Rosie," Brandon answered with a big smile, nodding as she suggested that she should go first. He was all right with that, especially since he didn't know the place. She used the powder, saying the name of the pub and then she was gone. Brandon nodded, taking a deep breath before he stepped into the fireplace and followed her example. When he exited, there she was, brushing herself off. Brandon did the same, but the ash actually wasn't too bad this time. "So, how do I look?" he asked her, turning in a circle so he could get Rosie's approval. "You look amazing, by the way," Brandon added, slipping his arm around her waist and giving her a quick kiss. What did he care? No one here knew him, and he'd just publicly claimed his girlfriend. The rest of them could leave her alone, knowing that he was around. rose harriet granger-weasley

Brandon joined her in the pub in a matter of seconds and brushed himself off as well. She smiled when he asked how he looked, “You look great.” she said and brushed a little bit of soot off of his shoulder on the back. “You look extremely handsome.” she admitted with a giggle when he took her waist and kissed her. “I like you.” she giggled after their kiss. It was true, and he knew that he knew that. Actually, she loved him, but she was just being cute right now, the real words weren’t necessary in this situation. “I think you’re dressed perfectly for seeing my parents. They’ll be very impressed with you.” she promised.
