Kinsey insisted that she didn’t want to go to bed and that wasn’t what she was saying, as she rolled her eyes. He looked over at her with a smirk and nodded, “Alright then.” she then said that she could leave if he was tired of her. He laughed, “You’ve got to stop thinking I’m tired of you.” he wasn’t sure if she really thought that way, but he hoped that she didn’t. There was never a time that he didn’t want to see her. What made Riley give another laugh was when Kinsey asked if he wanted to play a game or talk or something. Riley was pretty okay with sitting in silence and would be happy to grab a book and peruse if he needed something to do, but he wanted her to stay entertained too and he supposed she wasn’t very entertained right now. “What sort of game do you want to play?” he asked. “Or, what do you want to talk about?”

At least she got a laugh from him. Kinsey was pretty proud of herself from that, which probably showed on her face as she smirked over at Riley. She chuckled, "Only if you stop assuming that I don't want to spend my spare time with you." Sure, Kinsey was teasing, but at the same time she wasn't. It always felt like every time the two ran into one another and started doing something, he apologized for something or another. She didn't want that.
She wrinkled her nose when Riley asked what game she wanted to play, or what she wanted to talk about. Of course he wouldn't have any suggestions of his own. The problem was, she didn't have anything specific in mind either. "I don't know!" Kinsey exclaimed as she started giggling. "We could ... play rock, paper, scissors or do a thumb war?" Her laughing grew stronger at her ridiculous suggestions. Why were stupid kid games the only thing coming to mind. "Or, like ... chess or cards or something?" She shook her head, not having any ideas of what they could talk about. "I got nothing. We could talk about ... what do we not know about one another?" Kinsey gave Riley a quizzical look.

Kinsey teased him back and he gave in with a nod and wink in her direction. Touche. They both had a bit of work to do when it came to one another, at least in this weird relationship that they were in. When they had been dating, of course it was easy to assume that they both wanted to spend all of their time together. Now that he was technically in another relationship, he still wanted to spend his time with Kinsey, but it was hard for him to assume that she wanted to be around him too. She then laughed into game suggestions, bringing up several muggle games that they could play, ones he didn’t play often as a child because they had magic to entertain themselves and didn’t need games like that. She asked what they didn’t know about one another and he shrugged again. He knew that there was a lot that she didn’t know about him, at least when it came to his fiancee and his family, but he wasn’t going to offer up that information. “Okay well let’s compromise then. Truth or dare?” he smirked, sitting forward in his chair.

Kinsey chuckled again when Riley nodded in response to her retort. He wasn't arguing back with her, which was totally fine with her, though she thought of this more as teasing than as fighting. Really, she was just enjoying the fact that they could spend this time together. She missed being with Riley like this on a constant basis. He didn't seem super interested in any of the ideas she suggested, which wasn't really a surprise to Kinsey. She thought it was funny because she was naming a bunch of kid games, muggle ones probably. Why was he so serious. He suggested a compromise: truth or dare and Kinsey's eyes widened. "Uhhhhhhh truth?" She was kind of scared about what he would dare her to do if she chose dare. She needed to build up to that ... she'd switch between the two. That was Kinsey's decision.

Riley watched Kinsey’s eyes widen when she realized what he had decided. He figured Truth or Dare was a good compromise with talking or playing a game. This way they could do both at once. She chose truth, slightly unsurprisingly to him. Riley never knew Kinsey as someone who liked to step too far out of her comfort zone, but he hoped that she trusted him enough to know that he would try not to ever make her too uncomfortable. At least not in a way that wasn’t positive for her. He always wanted her to try new things, but, he didn’t want her to be upset or uncomfortable because of it or because of him. “If you could do anything in the world, literally anything, what would you do?” he asked.

Riley's question was innocent, which really wasn't a surprise to Kinsey, though she was a little relieved. It wasn't super personal or about romance or anything (not that she expected him to ask about her romantic life now). She smiled, nodding as she thought for a moment. "I think ... if I didn't have to worry about my gift ... I'd really like to travel. I've spent most of my life in the same places and I'd really just like to get out of my comfort zone and explore a bit, you know?" Like they did in Brighton. That was the first time she really got out of London (apart from her schooling, of course) and she absolutely loved it. There were a few problems with that desire though. She did have her gift and wasn't sure how she would deal in super popular places without someone to help her, and she also didn't have the funds for that kind of thing. "What about you? Truth or dare?" She lifted an eyebrow, teasing him.

Kinsey admitted that the one thing she could do if she could do anything was travel. Travel was something that Riley had a done a lot over his life and he most certainly took for granted. Of course, he had always traveled with his parents and siblings and they never really did anything touristy or fun, but it was still nice to be out of the country and around other people. Though being with muggles was always frowned upon. “That’s a good goal.” he insisted. He’d like to travel a little more too, he wanted to go to those places and actually be able to explore them and get to know the locals and their customs. She then took her turn, asking him to pick one. “Truth.” he decided, playing it safe at first too.

Riley liked her idea, telling her it was a good goal. Sure, but it was likely something she'd never be able to do. Kinsey wasn't looking for a job that would take her far out of London or get her traveling. In all likelihood, she was going to remain in London for most, if not all, of her life. It was just the way things were. She smiled and nodded, however. She and Riley were having a nice, positive conversation and she didn't want to mess with that. He chose truth and Kinsey frowned for a moment as she tried to think of something. She wanted to choose something good, but really she didn't have too many questions for Riley. "What item could you not live without?" she asked. Maybe not the best question, but at least it wasn't a deep one.

It was a bit of a hard question, and the more he thought about it the harder it got. Until it was obviously so simple. “Books.” he reported. She hadn’t said one item specifically. He could live without most of his things. He was a fairly materialistic person. He had a lot of products that he used on his skin and his hair. And he had a large and elaborate wardrobe. And while he liked having all of those luxurious items, he could live without them, he knew. “Or my wand.” he smirked. Glancing down at his watch and realizing that there were only a few more minutes until midnight, Riley asked again, “truth or dare?”

Kinsey grinned at Riley's answer. In all honesty, it just showed how similar the two of them were. She loved her books. Whether they were for learning or entertainment, Kinsey almost always had a book on her. "I definitely understand that," she told him, laughing when he added his wand. "How about this? You keep books and I'll let you borrow my wand if you ever need it," she teased, not even recognizing the fact that her words insinuated them being close enough that that was a possibility. She wasn't thinking about the fact that Riley was engaged, or that in a few days their time would be up and they wouldn't be able to be with one another like this again. She was too caught up in the moment. He returned the inevitable question and Kinsey took a big breath before answering, "Dare," just like she'd planned. Switch off every time. She trusted Riley not to go overboard.

“Yeah but who knows if your wand would even listen to me.” he smirked. The wand chose the wizard after all. But the sentiment was still there, and he liked the idea of being so close to her that they would share their items. It hit him a little bit more that they would never be this way. He shook that thought out of his head when she answered him, picking dare. He had wanted her to pick that and he was glad when she did so, scooting a little closer to the edge of his seat, a smirk crawled upon his face. “I dare you to close your eyes.” the clock turned 11:59pm.

Kinsey shrugged, "I guess we'd have to try it up before you gave up your own want," she teased back, just liking the banter with him. She thought she'd read somewhere that wands would generally work for other wizards, just not as well, but she wasn't entirely positive about that. Studying wandlore wasn't one of her habits. He leaned forward, smirking when she chose dare and Kinsey's eyes narrowed curiously as she waited for his dare. He told her to close her eyes and Kinsey watched him for a moment, trying to figure out what he wanted before she slowly nodded. "Okay, for how long?" she asked as she closed her eyes and waited for whatever Riley was up to.

Kinsey looked skeptical when he told her to close her eyes and he couldn’t blame her. But he just had to hope that she trusted him. She asked how long she had to close them for and he smirked, “Just for a minute.” he answered, standing up and quietly making his way over to her, he waited until the hand on his watch signaled that it was midnight before he leaned down, placed his hand on her cheek and pressed his lips gently to hers. He kissed her for a moment and then pulled every so slightly away. “Happy New Year, Kinsey.” he whispered.

Riley told her she had to have them closed for a minute and Kinsey followed his instructions. Holding one's eyes closed for an entire minute is not an easy feat, however. She could hear Riley moving around in the room and figured he was getting some sort of a present together or something. Maybe he had a surprise? She had no idea, but waiting like this was torture. She could practically feel it when he was standing in front of her. Then he touched her cheeks and Kinsey decided to open her eyes, but before she could he was kissing her and wishing her a happy New Year. "Happy New Year to you too, Riley," she breathed back before leaning forward and kissing him this time. Maybe she should have let it go, but this was probably the last time she would ever have the chance to kiss Riley and she wanted to prolong it if she could. After a few moments she pulled away and slowly opened her eyes to look up at him, a small smile on her face. She wanted to tell him that she loved him, but she couldn't. Instead the words hung in the air between them, unspoken, but Kinsey was pretty sure he knew. He had to.
