Jack was quiet for a second, and he didn’t look down at her when she spoke. Mazie couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him. He wouldn’t even look at her? The punk. Then he answered, saying they could go if she wanted to. She grinned, ”Oh, believe me, farm boy, I want to. I was cooped up in my parents house for way too long. I need some fun.” Who better to get into it with than one of her best friends? Besides, she missed Jack. She wanted to spend more time with him. ”You game for tonight?” she asked, looking up at him again. If he didn’t look at her, she’d have to poke him or something. Granted, it was nice that his arm was still around her shoulders. She liked the feeling of having him so close, of his familiar smell. Man, she’d missed him. So much. After a second, she paused, realizing something. ”What house are you in, Jack?” Part of her hoped that maybe the two of them would be in the same house, though at the same time it seemed like an impossibility. He was so much more composed than she was, so much more put together. In all honesty, she just wanted another excuse to be close to him. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

She agreed that she wanted to and then asked if he was game for tonight. He nodded. “Yeah sure.” he agreed. Why not try to get in trouble on their very first night back from winter break? Maybe they wouldn’t get caught. Or even if they did, impressing her a little would be worth it. Plus they’d end up in detention together. So no matter what they were made to do for detention, it would be fun to do it together. “You wannah meet outside of your common room? I can come and get you.” he asked, looking down to her. Of course, he didn’t know the exact location of any other common room, but he could walk around the area until he found her.
“Oh yeah, I’m a Ravenclaw.” he told her, no real feeling of pride or adoration in his voice. His Hogwarts house didn’t really mean anything to him. His Ilvermorny house still meant a lot to him. That was how he identified, if at all. He barely cared about his Hogwarts house. “Where did you get put?” he asked, wondering what the hat would have to say about her. He almost prayed she was in Ravenclaw too so they could see one another more often.

Mazie beamed at Jack when he said sure. She was so excited that he was agreeing to go with her tonight. ”It’s going to be so much fun!” she exclaimed, turning to give him an excited hug. He asked if they should meet outside of her common room and she nodded her head. It sounded like a good idea to her, assuming he knew where her common room was. She liked the idea of him coming to find her though. It made her stomach flutter pleasantly. Jack answered, saying he was a Ravenclaw and she scrunched her nose at him. Dang it all. She’d really been hoping and was a little surprised at the disappointment that coursed through her. She missed him more than she’d thought, apparently. She shrugged again, ”I’m in Gryffindor. Do you know where their common room is?” Mazie didn’t want him to get caught before they could have fun together. JOHN ELLIOT CLARK

She told him that she was a Gryffindor and a tiny piece of his heart sank. Oh well, he’d still get to see her, he was, sure. Even if they weren’t in the same house and didn’t have any classes together. He would make time to see her, especially now that he knew that she still wanted to see him too. He certainly hadn’t forgotten about her over the past few months since he had last seen her at Ilvermorny, but he was worried that they would grow apart. It didn’t seem like that was the case, however. “No I don’t really know where it is. No one really know exactly where the other houses live.” he admitted. “I know where your tower is, though.” he shrugged.

Mazie couldn’t tell if she was seeing things or if Jack was actually disappointed that she was in Gryffindor. Did he want them to be in the same house just like she did? Or did he just wanna be able to mess with her more easily? Even if that was the case she wouldn’t mind. Not if it meant that she’d get to see him more. He said he didn’t know, but that he wasn’t supposed to? ”That’s a silly secret to have,” she grumbled. She just wanted to spend time with him. Why did it have to be complicated. ”Okay, then I’ll come out a little before midnight so we can find each other.” Mazie smirked at him, ”Just make sure no one catches you before we can start. If you stand me up, I’ll be really disappointed.” Mazie didn’t think there was a chance of that changing anything, but she couldn’t resist the chance to trade him. They walked together for a bit, Mazie just enjoying the chance to be with her best friend again. Coming to Hogwarts was worth it, even if it was just for this. —- the end —- JOHN ELLIOT CLARK
