wanna live lost, wanna be free. 24.01.2025 12 AM…
MIDNIGHT’S STRIKE MEANT MANY things for Bryelle Goyle. It meant she would need to be quiet, cautious of her surroundings and quick. Quick with how she walked, and how she casted her spells. At night, the Towers where all Gryffindor students resided in only became incredibly stifling. It was odd, given how high they all were, but the air was humid, disgusting to breathe in from. Which lead to the Goyle roaming down the staircase, curiosity wandering as she thought of what things in Hogwarts were really like at night. It was a moment that would usually call for Lily’s help, considering the Potter was almost let off on every occasion she was caught in, but given the state she found her werewolf friend sleeping in, (red hair all over the place and arms twisted, honestly how could Lily sleep like that?), she left her friend to slumber away. Feet covered with maroon coloured slippers stepped off the last step that welcomed her onto the Main Floor, with the Great Hall around the corner and the Entrance Hall straight ahead, her lit wand held tightly in her hands as she proceeded forward.
Bryelle wanted to head towards the Courtyard, the only place inside the grounds the moon could be seen from and fresh air was guaranteed. But from the stairs she had walked down from, the walk to the Courtyard was grand and ultimately…dangerous. If you count bumping into Professors or Prefects as terrifying, dangerous or troublesome. The Goyle knew it was all of the above and if she was met with detention, she would make the best out of it in there, perhaps bug the Professor in charge of the detentions for the day and hope they let her go early. Anything was possible when you were blessed with a loud and confident mouth. Hands holding onto the walls for support, she ventured further, hoping her sense of direction wasn’t too insane. With minutes passing, Bryelle followed down another corridor, only to hear quiet shuffles of someone nearby.
Eyes widening, she muttered the spell to rid herself of the light, before her body pressed against the walls, hearing the quiet groans coming from the paintings she had barely hit. Dark eyes watched as from one end of the corridor, a lit wand moved, facing the direction Bryelle was walking into, then moving, out of her sight, returning her to darkness. She drew a soft sigh, ready to light her wand once more and proceed in the direction she watched the unknown wand disappear from until something…didn’t seem right. ”Lumos.” She casted, her gut feeling proving to be right when she was met with a silhouette shorter than Bryelle herself. The figure moved closer only to reveal…”Max.” She breathed, holding a hand to her chest. ”You f*cking scared me man.”

The clock had just struck midnight not long before, and Maxima Greyback was finishing her rounds of the castle later than anticipated. The Aurora who were guarding the castle were also on their watch, and she was more than ready to let them take over for her for the night.
She was on her way back to the dungeons, in fact—keeping her wand out both so that she could illuminate her path and so that she wouldn't have any trouble. Hearing someone else's voice illuminating their wand in the quiet of the night, she immediately backtracked, going back in the direction from which the voice seemed to have come.
Her wand's light overlapped easily with that of the culprit, who spoke at almost exactly the same time as Max processed that it was her.
"Max. You f*cking scared me, man."
It was Bryelle Goyle, a Gryffindor girl in her own year and a friend of Lily's, which made her one of an increasing list of people whom Max could tolerate. Her circle of "friends" had always been a small one, both because of who she was and because she had never actively tried to let people into it. But Lily was part of the Greyback "pack", so to speak, that she and her half-siblings had established—their occasionally dysfunctional family unit that they had only really established in the past two years (if it had even been that long).
Bryelle might not have been someone that Max would have spilled every last one of her secrets to, but she had no reason to dislike her, either. She did, unfortunately, have reason to punish her.
"Was this an emergency?" she clarified, giving Bryelle the benefit of a moment's doubt. She was a floor lower than Madam Macmillan's office and the Hospital Wing and didn't look ill or injured, so probably not.

wanna live lost, wanna be free. WITH MAX’S PRESENCE IN THE hallway, it could only mean one thing for the Goyle and the results weren’t looking great. It flew over Bryelle’s head multiple times that the Slytherin was a Prefect, not usually the one to snitch up like the rest who took their ‘power’ for granted, but still, Max liked rules. Kind of. Swallowing a dry lump, Bryelle stood proper, lit wand in hand as she looked over at her Prefect of a friend. Acquaintance? Whatever they were.
”Maybe.” The brunette stated, trying to figure out a string of lies she could use against the girl. But in the end, Bryelle simply chose the truth. ”I wanted fresh air, an escape from the tower…” And she chose a hell of a time to crawl down those steps and avoid wandering eyes.

"Maybe," came Bryelle's answer as to whether or not her reason for being outside of her common room at such an hour was due to an emergency. "I wanted fresh air, an escape from the tower…"
"…So 'no'?" Max guessed. If it were actually an emergency, she would have said so. If she had had a panic attack or something like that, then that would have been a different story, and Max would have had no issue with letting the Gryffindor off with a warning and walking her back to Gryffindor Tower or to the Hospital Wing, if she needed that.
But Bryelle merely seemed to be fishing for an excuse to get let off the hook. "Five House points from Gryffindor for this," Max explained with a sigh. She hated having to do it, especially when Bryelle should have known better, but it was the least harsh of the punishments she could possibly give. "And I'll have to let Madam Macmillan know that one of her students was caught out after curfew."

wanna live lost, wanna be free. AN EMERGENCY WAS THE LAST thing on Bryelle’s mind. If an emergency were to occur back home, the Goyle wouldn’t be the fastest person to march back to her home anyway, an emergency would probably clear out her problems at home. After all, the only Goyle member she cared for had moved out into a place of his own and was constantly working. ”No.” She admitted, rolling her eyes as she did so. She regretted answering truthfully the minute her mouth opened. ”F-Five points? Dude you can do that?” She asked. Was the points system still even a thing? Bryelle hadn’t been awarded points since fourth year. Maybe there was a reason for it…
”Madam Macmillan? Now Max…Maxie…You don’t mean that do you?” Speaking to another Professor for her rebellious chaos for what felt like the millionth time that week wasn’t a part of Bryelle’s agenda. Only chaos and learning was.

Bryelle rolled her eyes at her. "No," she finally confessed; there had been no good reason for her being out after curfew when she wasn't permitted to be. At least, thought Max to herself, it hadn't been worse. There were plenty of places around the castle that would have been even more frustrating to have to deal with. The Astronomy Tower was one, and the broom cupboards where some people felt that they could go and do certain acts in peace were another. As tellings-off went, this one was actually not as bad as it could have been.
The Gryffindor seemed stunned that she was actually deducting House points from her and questioned if she could actually do that.
Max nodded. "Yeah…" She was a prefect, and the victory of winning the House Cup was part of the incentive to keep students on their best behavior, wasn't it? Besides, it was only five points. Someone would probably earn those back for her with a correct answer in class in the morning, Max thought; it really wasn't a deficit.
The thought of having Madam Macmillan told about the fact that she had been misbehaving, though, seemed to really bother Bryelle. "Madam Macmillan? Now Max… Maxie…You don’t mean that, do you?"
"She's your Head of House," Max reminded her. "So I should probably tell her… in the morning." It could wait a few hours; no one was in any danger, and Max really didn't want to have to wake the counselor for something so minor. "I'm not waking her when she's probably just gone to sleep," she noted. Plus, it was midnight, and she needed to be getting to bed soon, too.
Max sighed. "Look. If you promise to go back to your dormitory right now, I'll let you off with a warning this time. Just… don't do it again, alright?"

wanna live lost, wanna be free. THE CONFESSION WAS STUPID AND only led Bryelle Goyle to regret her choices. Merlin! How she knew she should’ve said yes. Like most people the Gryffindor girl faced anxiety and panic during lonely moments, but it was something she would never really reveal to anyone other than her brother. Now with five points being taken from the house, she knew her fellow peers would eventually find out about this…and probably kill her. Though, the Goyle had a feeling Lily wouldn’t be a part of that list. Lily didn’t care for many things thee days. Except reckless fun of course. ”I know that dum—“ Before the situation could worse, the girl’s lips locked tight, her eyes squeezing tight briefly as she considered her word choice.
”Please, Max…Just reconsider?” Pleading wasn’t exactly the Goyle’s forte, but when Max met her compromise half way, a sort of grin formed on her lips. ”Maxie you’re not gonna regret this.” Bryelle stepped forward, her arms widening for an embrace.

"I know that dum—" Bryelle started, although Max didn't get to hear the Gryffindor finish that thought of hers, whatever it was, although it hadn't sounded as though it was going to be particularly complimentary.
"Please, Max…" Bryelle began. "Just reconsider?"
Max had. As she told her, she really didn't want to have to wake any of the staff, if she could help it. She tried not to involve them unless she had to, and so she was willing to trust that Bryelle would get herself back to bed. If she didn't, that would be her own fault for not having followed what a prefect had instructed her to do.
When her words had reached Bryelle, the Gryffindor told her that she wasn't going to regret the decision to let her off with a warning and opened her arms for a hug. Stiffly, Max hugged Bryelle back and then pulled away from her again.
"Please, just go back to Gryffindor Tower, alright?" Bryelle didn't even have to promise her to sleep. Just as long as she was out of the corridors and out of trouble, that was good enough.
