Professor Choi didn’t give her the opportunity to explain herself, however. Of the professor’s concern, unfortunately, was where she had gotten the contents of the flask—in other words, where she had gotten the alcohol that she had poured out and into the punch in the Great Hall. Sami’s eyes wandered in the direction of the flask itself, which Professor Choi kept suspended in midair in the space between the three of them. “Did you steal from your parents? Graduated friends? Buy from someone during Hogsmeade Weekend?” Sami, eyes still on the flask rather than daring to look at Bryelle while she was being interrogated, explained. “I—I bought the firewhisky, Professor.” She had bought it herself, and she would have said that she had done it with her own money, but, technically, that money was her parents’. “I’m seventeen, Miss,” she added. Her buying the alcohol—in and of itself—wasn’t a problem; she was, at least in Wizarding Britain, old enough to purchase and consume alcohol at her age. Plenty of students did when they weren’t within the school’s grounds. “I bought it legally. In Hogsmeade.” @jiyu

JI-YU ALREADY KNEW THAT TO most students, she was nothing but intimidating. But she had a darker streak, ready to use whenever it was required, and this moment was one of them. A student had passed the line — well two — both of them being Gryffindors, and from what the Choi had heard, it tended to be Gryffindors or Slytherin’s with a rebel streak within them. Samira had finally spoke up at Ji-Yu’s questions, and the flash of the Choi’s eyes saw that Bryelle was ready to protest, Samira had already spilled it all.
Ji-Yu nodded in understanding, listening in and while yes, seventeen was the legal age for alcohol, alcohol was still not permitted on school grounds. Information she was ready to repeat back to the Gryffindor. ”I’ve now taken in to account of your age and school year but still, alcohol is not permitted on school grounds. For Professors or students. You were informed of this within your first year almost six years ago Miss Warsame.” Ji-Yu paused, breathing out a sigh of disappointment. ”Not to mention, Miss Goyle, is in cahoots with you, and she is indeed a sixth year. The offence only heightens. The boards could think the true purpose of this was you planned to give the contents to Miss Goyle who is indeed a minor in the eyes of the law.”

Even taking into consideration her age as a factor, Professor Choi wasn't taking things lightly. Alcohol, as she pointed out, wasn't permissible at the school. She said that Bryelle was "in cahoots" with her—Who even said that?—and that she could get in further trouble because Bryelle, unlike Samira, was not yet seventeen. And, because of that, the Board of Governors of Hogwarts might not look favorably upon what she had done.
People did stuff like that all the time. Merlin, most people did considerably worse things, and Sami wouldn't have been surprised if some of the same people who now oversaw the administration of the school had taken part in the same activities when they were students. And now she was the one who was going to be getting in trouble for it? It wasn't fair, and Sami Warsame wasn't about to let her name go down in history as that of the girl who happened to get expelled for spiking some drinks.
Although she could feel her blood boiling at the thought that Professor Choi might actually take the offense to the Board of Governors and bypass Professor McGonagall entirely, Sami bit back the response that she would have loved to give the woman. Professor Choi was young and pretty; didn't that also mean that she was supposed to be cool?
Sami thought for a minute and took in a breath. "Miss," she began, "I can assure you that it won't happen again…" Not if the consequences of her actions were going to be that severe. "I didn't realize that Bryelle wasn't seventeen." She hadn't exactly thought to ask, as it hadn't been a concern of hers until that moment, but it was the truth. She didn't know Bryelle's birthday, and it was February. Bryelle very well could have been seventeen already and in her sixth year; it wasn't out of the question.
"And I didn't mean to harm anyone," she followed up, sincere about that. She could have tainted the punch with some sort of potion or poison, perhaps, but she hadn't. Didn't she deserve some sort of consideration for that? People had been murdered at Hogwarts, and Professor Choi's concern was a little bit of alcohol?
"I only did it as a joke, Professor…" Sami admitted, looking down. She hadn't thought that there would be any real consequences. It was alcohol, and Professor Choi probably would have been more surprised to know how frequently she drank the stuff. bryelle rose goyle @jiyu
