Of course the dog was hers. Why did everyone always question that? She knew that things were different when she was in school and directly following graduation, but it had been almost two years since then, and she hadn’t fucked up once. Not one single time. Drunken nights were still common, but what twenty-something didn’t have those kinds of nights? Her job was stable, she made money, and she took care of her dog. Sure, she still lived with her older sister, but they both had smaller rent payments because of it. Who would say no to lower rent? She was tired of people assuming that she was lazy and a screw up. Tired of old classmates coming into the store and looking down at her. Someone had to do that job though. They couldn’t have their latest copy of ‘How to Mingle with Muggles?’ or whatever was popular at the time. See, she could do all of that because she took the time to understand them and do muggle things. Apparently that made her a failure. Enough of one that people didn’t even believe she was capable of taking care of her own dog.
She wanted to scream all of that at Ares, but he had beat her to the punch, taking issue with how she had blamed him for not being around sooner. Mina knew that she shouldn’t have placed it all on him. This was all Sarah’s fault. All of it. If she had been a normal, empathetic person, none of this would be happening. “…I know,” Mina muttered after a few seconds of silence, refusing to make eye contact with him. She purposely ignored his question about Rue, crossing over to the couch and sitting down. He wasn’t privy to information on her friend, and she wouldn’t let Rue sell anything to him either. It didn’t work like that. No friends and family discount was heading Ares’s way, even if he was technically the latter now.
And then he had to keep going on about Sarah. Mina gave him a disgusted look, “I did not need to know how that happened, thanks.” She jumped up from the couch again and walked towards him, motioning with her hands for him to leave. “Out. Now. Your time is up. I’ll have Cal contact you when it’s time to pick him up.” There was no way she was going to get into what happened during school again. It may have seemed like a good thing at the moment, but all of that disappeared the second she learned about Seb. Ares Lestrange was completely off the table from then on.
