A NIGHT IN MARCH, 2025 RAVENCLAW DORM ROOMS
Zen was sure it was March when it all began. March 2025. It was hard to pinpoint time when school had pretty much taken over. The months to follow were due to be long ones, with the seventh years preparing to leave and the sixth years preparing for seventh. Eventually she would be saying goodbye to Daniel and to Eli, as well as the other seventh years who had been somewhat nice to her. But it also meant summer was almost here. Days and nights began and ended like most others, beginning with school and ending with studying or homework, dinner, a shower and rest. During one night in bed, Zenevieva remembered adjusting how she slept on her side, and remembered how cold it really was.
Her quiet mumbles filled the room that accommodated herself and Ellie while her slow opening eyes realised she wasn't where she was meant to be. But instead directly opposite - on their dorm ceiling. The Novell woke in a fright, green eyes observing her dorm room from up above…was that how dusty the top of the cabinets really were?
Ridding herself from the absolute need to comment on every odd thing, Zen tried to move from where she had tangled herself in, but some sort of force pulled her back, as if it wanted her to remain on the ceiling. Eventually with the sobs of the half-vampire, the panics from her fellow Ravenclaw and a night owl of a professor (Ms Choi), it resulted with Zen being just fine. Returned to where she needed to be...until it happened again. It continued on for nights on end, Zen stuck on a ceiling, or a high corner of the walls, her cries waking Ellie and Ellie's panics waking Professor Choi. The poor Professor.
It was concluded amongst all the Professors that Zen’s new ability had been a strange one to see amongst the demi-humans in the wizarding school, especially since Zen was only a half-vampire, barely interesting to those who even cared. But the ability itself was one that was not uncommon amongst actual vampires. Sleepless nights for the Professors soon turned into research sessions and eventually almost all but one person gave up. Zen herself continued to research, wondering how the ability of a full-fledge vampire could be passed along to the offspring. Nothing added up.
But if that wasn’t enough change in the Novell’s life, Merlin had another thing coming for her.
It was the middle of the day when it happened, her eye giving the Ravenclaw a stinging, a sort of burning pain. Excused from the lesson and a quick run to the nearest bathroom, the blonde watched in horror as her eye colour changed before her. Like magic she supposed, her right eye shifted from the pale hues of green to a dark crimson, as if a bucket of blood had been poured over it. It was a frightening and painful sight, one the Novell thought she was imagining until she tried to wash her eyes out. The colour never disappeared.
Weeks passed though, and with the frightened looks or surprised stares, Zen had finally gotten used to the person she had become. A simple half-vampire with an odd match of heterochromia and could walk on walls! How simple! It wasn’t long before she explained it to Ellie, Kaylee and even Daniel, but yet she wanted to truly show off her anchoring ability to her other half vampire friends. Considering she was an anchor like their mother after all.
