FEBRUARY 13, 2025 Peyton had some homework and studying to do, and usually, she went to her and Hugo's secret spot, but today she needed books from the library. Thus, that was how she found herself walking quickly through the fourth-floor corridor heading for the library. She knew the ghost that dwelled within this area and was not about to get mocked or pranked by him.
And then she rounded a corner, right into someone and she bounced backward, luckily catching her balance as she did so. Her eyes widened and her mouth opened, "Oh shirts...I am so sorry!"

Mazie wasn't normally the kind of person to be found in a library. Sure, she liked school and she liked getting good grades and such, but Mazie was not good at studying. She much preferred putting spells and such into practice instead of reading about them and writing essays and such. It wasn't her favorite thing. Still, she had some essay due tomorrow, so Mazie found herself in the library. She was having a hard time finding the book, so Mazie kept walking around looking for it. She turned a corner and ran right into someone. The girl bounced back and Mazie fell to the ground. The girl's eyes were huge and she looked stunned at having "hurt" Mazie. Mazie started to chuckle, "You're fine. It's just as much my fault as it is yours." She sat up and rose to her feet. "I'm Mazie, what's your name?"@peytonbainbridge

Peyton had entered the library not a moment too soon, disappearing just as laughter filled the corridor, no doubt being the ghost. She had been only in there a few seconds before she sent someone tumbling down to the ground. Unlike Peyton, the other girl hadn't caught her balance. Before Peyton could even react and help her to her feet, she was standing and introducing herself, after saying it was her fault as well. Peyton smiled, swallowing her embarrassment, "Peyton - are you okay? I didn't hurt you, did I?"

Mazie smiled. It was obvious that the other girl was worried she'd upset Mazie or hurt her or something, but Mazie was made of tougher stuff than that. She chuckled and nodded, "Nice to meet you Peyton!" She answered cheerfully. "I'm totally fine. I trip and fall like that all the time," she lied. Sure, she fell sometimes, but Mazie wasn't actually clumsy. She just didn't always have good luck always. "So, you studying anything specific today in the library?" she asked curiously. @peytonbainbridge

'Nice to meet you Peyton! I'm totally fine. I trip and fall like that all the time,' Peyton smiled and nodded, "Nice to meet you as well Mazie." The girl went on to ask about what she was studying at the library, and the blonde found herself smiling, pulling her bag up to her shoulder more, "I got a paper to write for potions. I mean - it isn't due for another two weeks, but I like to get it done as soon as it's assigned," she said with a small awkward laugh.
"How about you? Need help finding something?" she questioned, the girl looked new - or maybe she wasn't paying attention to all the new students.

Well, she was definitely cheery, especially for someone stuck in the library. However, as she continued talking, explaining that her assignment wasn't due for a few weeks, Mazie's opinion changed. Sure, she was happy, but apparently it was because she was in the library. Peyton was one of those people who liked doing her assignments and stuff, which didn't make any sense to Mazie. Why waste your time writing and reading when you could be out experiencing life? This was why she'd never been good at homework. She shrugged when Peyton asked if she needed help. "I mean, I dunno," Mazie answered vaguely. "Charms books are this way, right?" Mazie asked, pointing to the place where she'd gone last time she did her homework. Then she chuckled, "I've gotta get this done before I'm supposed to turn it in or my sister will send a Howler or something." Lee really would too. She wanted Mazie to do well in school. @peytonbainbridge

The girl seemed to look at her like everyone did when she mentioned homework not being due until weeks from that point. Some thought she was crazy, that she wasn't living her life - but she enjoyed this life. She had never seen anything wrong with it, especially with how socially awkward she could be. The girl shrugged her shoulders at the question, asking if the charms books were in the direction she was pointing. Peyton nodded her head with a smile, signaling that she was correct.
'I've gotta get this done before I'm supposed to turn it in or my sister will send a Howler or something.' Peyton's eyes widened, shaking her head, "Oh no...that will not be good. Would you like some help? Charms is...well my favorite subject, perhaps I could be of assistance?" she questioned with a smile. Hell - if they were in the same year, maybe it was one of the assignments that she had already completed weeks ago.

Mazie smiled when she girl nodded that she was right about where the charm books were. Score! At least she was headed in the right direction. That was a good thing. Now she actually had to find the book she needed ... then actually read what she needed to ... AND write a paper on it. UGHH!!! She hated homework! She was already thinking of how she should break her work into chunks so she'd actually do it, when the girl spoke again, asking if she could help. Mazie's eyes brightened at the offer. "Really? Are you sure you'd want to do that? I'm not quite the best student. Bookwise, that is," Mazie explained. "I do well enough at performing the spells," she was actually awesome at that, "but when it comes to theory or explaining other things that come from books, I struggle. Mostly because I can't focus on the books long enough to get the answer." She laughed, realizing she'd gone on a tangent. "I guess the point is, I'm not the easiest person to help, but if you're willing to deal with me, I'd love your help." Maybe Peyton could actually help her get this done in a decent time period. @peytonbainbridge

Peyton was a pretty helpful person, usually helping her twins with their studies as well. Persephone didn't need her help as more, the independent girl that she was. But Penelope sometimes came to her for help, studying and whatnot in a subject that she wasn't good in. Because Peyton was the bookworm and a pretty knowledgeable person, she found lots of people asking for help. So offering to help Mazie wasn't that much of a difference. Plus, she had already completed the paper weeks ago.

She laughed at the girl calling herself 'not the easiest person to help', and she shrugged, "I'm up for the challenge," she smiled, "So, what are you writing about? I can help find the books and some pretty nice passages. Maybe even help you figure out the best way to go about the paper?"

Peyton explained that she was knowledgeable and had already done her paper so she could probably help. Well, that was definitely true. At least she didn't back away immediately when Mazie said that it wouldn't be easy. Peyton seemed to actually really want to help, which was nice. Mazie smiled at her. "I'm writing about the difference between vocalizing spells and thinking them. I mean, I know how to do them both, but I don't quite understand why I need to know the theory behind the strengths and weaknesses of each, you know? They're both useful and just use whichever one fits best in a situation." She couldn't write that though. She was supposed to be giving details about the background of each. "What do you think you want to do to help me?" Mazie asked. @peytonbainbridge

'Cause I feel like I can do anything when My head is spinning and my feet off the ground When I can't stop dancing like no one's around A smile appeared on Peyton's lips, shaking her head. "So the difference between nonverbal magic and verbal magic...there are quite a few differences between the two besides one being spoken aloud and the others thought. But there is more to it. With the later, you have to use precise wand movements to aid in the nonverbal spell working..." She shrugged her shoulders lightly, before listening as the girl explained that she didn't understand why she needed to know the theories behind the strengths and weaknesses of each. She nodded her head, "It is a little annoying that we do...but at the same time, it can be helpful. I mean, knowing them helps in determining if you should say the spell aloud. Like some spells...is more powerful if the incantation is spoken, rather than not. And others work perfectly without the incantation being said."'What do you think you want to do to help me?' A smile appeared on the blonde's pink lips before she shrugged. "I can get you the right books. And then, I've been told I'm the perfect person for proof-reading and telling you the better way to word things. And I'm down for helping along the way, anything you need throughout the process." Was she giddy with excitement that someone took up her offer in helping them write a paper? Yes...yes, she was. MADE BY VEL OF GS

Well, the girl was definitely excited to help Mazie, which didn't entirely make sense to the Gryffindor. She didn't understand why people got so excited about studying, but she did know there were people who did. Jack was one of them. She listened, nodding as Peyton started describing the differences between the two. Mazie knew some of what she was saying, and other parts sounded familiar. The real crux of the matter was, Mazie followed what felt right. She always had, and she really hadn't had any problems with verbal or nonverbal magic. Both worked when she wanted them to. Maybe she could just sense when it was the right time to use one. Peyton agreed to help by getting books and proof-reading and such and Mazie smiled. She wasn't particularly excited about writing this, but she obviously had someone who was more than willing to help her. "Well thanks! I think that would help me get it done, if you don't mind." At least, having someone there normally made Mazie focus and actually do what she was supposed to instead of goofing off. "Really, I appreciate you being willing to help," she added after another second. @peytonbainbridge

'Cause I feel like I can do anything when My head is spinning and my feet off the ground When I can't stop dancing like no one's around Peyton had tutored a bunch of people during her years in Hogwarts. There had been a few other Hufflepuffs, and some of the other houses had tried to get her help. She was always willing to lend a hand to people that needed it, even if they didn't realize they needed it. And even though she was meeting Mazie for the first time, at the end of her sixth year, she was still willing to help. 'Well thanks! I think that would help me get it done, if you don't mind. Really, I appreciate you being willing to help,' Peyton smiled brightly, nodding her head, "I'm always happy to help someone in need. Why don't you find somewhere to sit, and I'll grab some book," she said with a smile, turning on her heels and heading for the stack she needed. It didn't take long for her to find some books, returning to find Mazie. And with that, the two spent some time working, Peyton stopping to give her tips and advice and eventually, they finished, both girls parting ways. MADE BY VEL OF GS
