March 2025Simon couldn't believe they were here again, practically at each others throats, they'd both probably be dead before the assignment was completed. Jessie didn't bother Simon until she started opening her mouth. Now that they were partners she seemed to make it a goal to piss him off and belittle him. The half vampire found himself annoyed and getting petty about things he didn't care about, like what people thought of him.
Jessie told Simon that his existence made her miserable. A smoke cloud billowed around his face, a smirk dancing at the corners of his lips as he resisted a chuckle, "First off, I'm flattered that I have that effect on you." he snapped back mockingly as she stuck her tongue out at him. Simon couldn't understand why they couldn't get past their differences. He couldn't remember the last time he fought with someone so much, other than the stupid blue haired girl recently, but that was a different story.
"And B -" after he said 'B' instead of 'Secondly', he was going to correct himself, but had too much pride for that. His mouth opened, and then comically shut it again. Simon took a breath before speaking, only to calm himself. He wasn't going to allow Jessie to piss him off with a spliff in his hand, that would be counterproductive. Simon leaned against a tree, "You say that as if you gave me a real chance to help after the chomping cabbage. From the very beginning you've been a bossy control freak who needs to loosen the hell up, you're acting as if your entire academic career is life or death." he told her harshly, taking a drag before adding, "You wouldn't know a good time if it bit you on the ass. This would probably help you at this point." he told her with a snort, feeling the judgement from across the way. She was pissed, which made the smoke sesh so much more oddly satisfying.

Merlin, how could someone be so egotistical. Jessie rolled her eyes so hard, she gave herself a slight headache. Normally the brunette could ignore prideful or snide remarks, but Simon was absolutely driving her up a wall this evening. Just like all the other times they were around on another. "I'm glad your confidence is so high. Because your looks don't get you very far," she said, dragging her eyes up and down at him with a clear look of disgust. She was proud of herself for that one! However, her face quickly reddened when he called her a control freak. She kicked her heels into the ground, out of slight frustration. He was right, of course, but she didn't like to be told the truth sometimes. "It wasn't for this control freak, you would have failed this assignment! I'm the only person in the world willing to work for you. Hell, I should be getting paid," she spewed, running out of breath. "Besides, you're not here because you care. You're only here because of quidditch." Her little fists balled tightly around her hoodie. She inwardly begged for the root to hurry up and become unearthed. Jessie was ready to never see him again. simon sixten svendsen

March 2025Jessie was a tough crowd. Simon didn't know what to do anymore since she only seemed to get gradually more pissed off at him. The Lion wasn't going out of his way to upset her, it occurred naturally each time. She commented that his looks wouldn't get him very far and he exhaled a puff of smoke, "They've gotten me this far." he smiled an annoyingly charming smile. One that most females would return with a smile, it probably had an opposite effect on the girl. She probably wanted to smack the smile off of his face.
Simons shoulders lifted into a lazy shrug. "Yeah, I am only here because of quidditch." he nodded knowingly, not a single ounce of denial in his voice. It was the truth. If he could get away with not taking Potions, he would drop out of the class in a heartbeat, but alas, the credits were needed for him to graduate. Simon breathed in, "I guess I lucked out with partners on this one since you won't let me do anything." he stated sarcastically. Simon was a little irritated that she wouldn't let him do anything anymore, probably in fear that he'd chuck it to the floor like the cabbage, but she told him to help! As the roots shifted on the ground below, "Lemme know whatever I can do for ya, boss." he stated mockingly with a sigh and eyeroll, flicking the end of the spliff into the forest to get rid of the evidence. The irritation was beginning to rise within him but he didn't want to show Jessie that. Hell, he'd need another spliff to deal with her. And a drink.

At first she felt a little confused. His words constantly straddled the line between flirting and being a smart ass remark. That familiar bit of anger that he brought about surged within her. Its' intensity caused her jump to her feet and firmly face him. Once again, she felt justified in wanting to throw something at him. Though, there was nothing close by that she could toss towards him. So she opted to lecture him, again. "You know what Simon? You're not God's gift to this planet. You're a rather large pain in my ass. You ignore my owls, purposely aggravate me... merlin, I could go on and on!" she cried out, exasperated.
The rumbling next to them was growing increasingly loud, almost as if it was mimicking her tone. Her eyes still trained on him, she crossed her arms. "You can find comfort in knowing that I'll also be relieved to never have to talk to you again, it's clearly a mutual feeling," she stated, intending for it to be the last thing she said for the evening. However, that wasn't the case. Too many angry thoughts swirled around, and she found herself wanting to lecture and yell a bit more. So she did. "And another thing," she started, giving him an annoyed look, "The whole whiplash thing with the back and forth hating and then not hating each other. It's annoying." Her face was pink with anger now, causing the cold seeping into his jacket to be long forgotten. A small part of her was disgusted that she had so eagerly taken it from her. For all she knew, he could have put itching powder in it before giving it to her. "You're annoying," she mumbled miserably. simon sixten svendsen

Simon leaned his back against a tree as Jessie scolded him, attempting to keep the expression on his face a blank slate as she berated him. The half vampire was unsure how to react because his intention tonight wasn’t to piss her off any more than he already had, but somehow he always managed to effortlessly piss Jessie off over and over again. Simon was trying to do the work tonight but she was making it impossible by nagging at him and reconfirming how annoying he was to her every minute. It was humorous to him how much she disliked him. Simon didn’t care if people liked or hated him, he was unapologetic when it came to being himself, but Jessie was being so silly about it in the Lions eyes.
Once she was finally finished talking, Simon took a breath in, the corners of his lips twitching into a half smile after she called him annoying, again. Okay, he had no problem keeping up with the annoying act, but he’d have a little fun messing with her in the process. The half vampire attempted to surpass a small laugh, and failed. She had turned fifty shades of red, and noticeably tense. “You look cute when you’re mad.” he said bravely, more to throw her off but there was truth behind the statement. Simon stepped away from the tree and further from Jessie, ”-But also equally terrifying.” he lied through his teeth. Simon wasn’t scared but maybe after calling her cute, she’d change that if she’s not sure how to handle more mixed signals.

Her doe brown eyes narrowed as she listened, before they widened wildly. A strange feeling tumbled around in her stomach. A moment passed by, as her mouth fell slightly open. Jessie couldn't believe his audacity. She struggled to maintain a look of composure, while her mind raced wildly. She wasn't sure what to think. Did he really think she was cute? Even though it didn't matter. What he thought surely didn't matter to her. She found herself turning away from him, as if hiding her face would keep her racing thoughts concealed. "Shut up, Simon," she murmured, clearly affected by his words. Her face was screwed up in confusion. She was so dang distracted by his first statement, she didn't even hear when he called her terrifying. Luckily at that moment, the plant became completely unearthed. She eagerly knelt before it again, completely silent. She nearly gripped too tight. Jessie carefully pulled it into her lap, gently rubbing the dirt off of each root structure. She was sure her face was still red. Burning in fact. And this time it wasn't because of her rage. simon sixten svendsen

March 2025Well, the flirtation seemed to be somewhat effective. He could sense that she was angry with him for a laundry list of reasons still. The look on her face was worth it though. Luckily the roots started to show and she reached for them quickly, appearing to be trying to keep herself busy and from fumbling from his flirtatious comment.
The Lion was sure to keep his distance because he didn't need Jessie to lash out at him. She seemed unpredictable, then again, he always enjoyed flirting with danger and questioning authority. She told him to 'shut up' and he snorted in response, raising a brow in her direction.
His bright blue eye bore into her, curious to how she'd react as he dug deeper. "What? You don't like being called cute?" he challenged her, attempting to throw her off some more. Simon was a natural flirt so this was fun for him. This was exhilarating in many ways for him since he wasn't ever sure what version of Jessie he was going to get.

She shifted uncomfortably in her spot on the ground. Did he really think that? He found her attractive? Jessie became acutely aware of her appearance. She wasn't sure she had ever really cared about that around him. The dirt under her nails from digging in the ground, her wavy hair falling unkempt around her waist. She grimaced at the thought. She must look horrific. He thought this was cute? No. That couldn't be it. It suddenly dawned on her. No wonder he was poking fun at her, calling her cute. It was the next way he planned on getting under her skin. She tucked her hair behind her ear, and continued digging around at the roots before her. This was his next plan. "No," she deadpanned, "I don't like hearing it from you." She shot him a quick glance, before looking anywhere but at him. This evening was beyond awkward. She couldn't believe Simon was poking fun at her in that way. simon sixten svendsen

Thread warning: PG 13 Mentions of drug usage
March 2025Truthfully, Simon wasn’t sure what he was doing. He knew he was probably acting like a fool, but he was too high to care. The half vampire found her reactions more entertaining than anything. The mood had changed, he could tell that she was getting aggravated by her body language and the tense look taking over. It was humorous to him. His expression flickered with amusement, not taking offense to her words in the slightest. Simon was expecting some sort of reaction and he was honestly getting used to it.
His eye brows raised comically, blue eyes falling on Jessie to assess her from across the way. ”You really do take offense to everything.” he stated dryly with a sigh, ruffling his hair. Okay, maybe he was sort of messing with her now, but she was admittedly cute. Simon was overflowing with pride but he was still willing to admit when a girl was attractive; even if she was annoying as hell.

Her thoughts was still spinning around in her head. Simon went from calling her a control freak, to saying she was cute. The conversation had taken such a hard turn, she was sure she had whiplash. Still on edge, tried to focus on the getting the root finished. "No, Simon. I take offence when someone is lying in order to poke fun at me," Jessie said, somewhat defeated. Though her words made it seem like she didn't believe him, a small part of her wished it held some truth. She wasn't quite ready to admit that though. Always eager to pretend like he didn't have any effect on her, she was ready to trade in this weird moment for some more arguing. "So, please, shut up and help me get this done," she said, dropping a lot more attitude than necessary. She looked at her nails once more, dreading cleaning them after cleaning the dirt off the roots. Merlin, she was going to need a manicure once this was over and done. simon sixten svendsen

March 2025The roots were pulled from the dirt and collected by Jessie easily. The Lion hadn't made himself very useful, yet, but the Lionnes wasn't making it so he could jump in. She seemed like she'd prefer to work alone, but here he was, hovering behind her like some slacker. When she had stated that he was lying, her tone defeated now, Simon shook his head in disagreement. "I wasn't lying to you, but believe what you wish to, Jessie." he stated under his breath, rolling his eyes to the back of his skull. A part of him wasn't sure if he had gone too far? Maybe she had low self esteem or something. Simon honestly was trying to flirt to alleviate the situation. Unfortunately it wasn't effective like it was with other girls. The half vampire was running out of ideas now. Now he'd have to result to work...
Simon kicked a couple of rocks before throwing himself to the dirt beside Jessie, sending a cloud of dust billowing around them. "What do you need me to do?" he grumbled, his patience and inner zen slowly dwindling. His icy blue daggers fell to her, seeking direction. Simon didn't want to destroy their roots like the chomping cabbage incident.

Her eyebrows knitted up slightly, a confused look replacing her sullen frown. Surely he wouldn't keep up the joke, after she called him out on it? Another chill ran through her, making her turn back to the project at hand. The warmth of her bed was calling her name. Getting Simon to help her would hurry the process up. She'd be back in her bed soon enough. "I just need help cleaning out the dirt from all the crevices in the roots. I don't know a spell gentle enough to do it, and leaving it dirty will ruin the brew," she explained. Jessie decided it was best to always over explain things to him. Least he pop off with something smart, or complain about finding an easier way to do it. She paused from cleaning for a moment when a yawn overcame her. "Ugh, it's too late and too cold to do this," she grumbled, still halfway yawning. She was tired and cold. A horrible combination, and it made her grumpy. Not to mention how frustrating Simon was. As her hands went back to work, she couldn't help but to look at the boy who had caused her so much emotional turmoil in the last week or so. His hair irked her. Not to mention how unnerving his eyes felt when they were on her. Her stomach did a weird flip again, and she shook her head. That had been happening a lot lately. Jessie thought that she may need to stop by the hospital wing one day to get it checked out simon sixten svendsen

March 2025Simon tried to listen closely to her directions, deciding that she was over explaining halfway through her spiel. The Lion wanted to help, he just wasn’t sure how to make himself useful. Simon made a terrible student and didn’t follow direction well unless if it pertained to quidditch. Blame it on selective hearing and/or his stubbornness. Simons head was permanently stuck in the clouds. ”Okay”he nodded to show her that he understood what she needed.
Ruffling his hand through his hair once more, he hunched over to get a better look at the roots. Sighing, he realized what a tedious task they had to endure. Jessie was sure to make it known how cold and miserable she was in his presence. A slight chill ran up his spine this time but he wasn’t going to admit that he was actually getting cold now.
Simon attempted to keep a calm tone, feigning an easy going expression to his blank face as he looked at her. ”Here, lemme do it.” he told her, reaching for one of the roots she tugged out of the earth. Simon demonstrated his carefulness by gently rubbing the dirt of the root with shaky fingers. ”I can do it, you’ve dove enough anyways. Just relax. ” he told her, laying the root into the finished pile as he reached for another. Simon had a feeling like she wouldn’t be one of those girls who was okay with just sitting and looking pretty. Maybe admitting to the fact that she had done enough straight to her face would be a better method..

Under normal circumstances, Jessie would never let Simon, of all people, work on anything alone. However, this was simple enough. Surely he couldn’t screw this part up. Not to mention her hands were nearly numb from the cold. Almost too eagerly, she nodded her head. “Okay, just be careful,” she said, not putting up much a fight. The brunette watched his shaky hands for a moment, before taking his advice about relaxing. She untucked her legs from beneath her and slowly leaned back so that she was laying on the ground. His jacket gave enough coverage to keep her back warm on the ground. The hoodie part of her jacket acted like a pillow. It was nearly enough to make her fall asleep. It was too cold though. If she fell asleep she might die from exposure to the elements. Simon would probably leave her there overnight anyway. So she turned her attention up to the sky, watching the clouds try to hide from the moon’s light. simon sixten svendsen

March 2025Simon hid the surprise from his face when Jessie agreed to allow him to take over. After telling him to be careful he was silent, diligently working in the peace and quiet with only the moon supplying light. His vampire half made it easy for him to see in the dark, cleaning the roots was a fairly simple task. Being careful not to break the roots was the difficult part.
After a few minutes, he patted his hands on his pants, smearing dirt and whatever else on them. His hands were filthy but it wasn't anything he could clean off. Simon turned to Jessie who was no leisurely laying on the ground. A part of him was just relieved that she had actually listened to him and stayed quiet long enough for him to finish the task at hand. Simon gently laid the final root in the pile neatly, "Alright. I think I'm finished, boss." he cleared his throat, unsure if she was asleep now. If she was, he would have been tempted to leave her there at the edge of the Forbidden Forest, but Simon wouldn't be able to leave with that on his conscience, as funny as the idea may had been in his head.
