appearance:
Jack stands at 6'0" and while he isn't overly muscular, he is strong. He spends a fair amount of time at his parents dairy farm in Ireland, helping out where he can help out with hard labour to take the physical load off of them and their ageing bodies.
Whilst Jack used to be fresh-faced and clean-shaven in his youth, he's been sporting stubble (and the occasional beard) since he was in his 30s and he's not likely to get rid of it any time soon. He feels like it makes him look his actual age, and he's not trying to pass himself off as any younger.
On Jack's left cheek, he has a great big scar running across it. He used to conceal it with all sorts of glamour spells and potions, however he now just lets it be. It's a memento from the Battle of Hogwarts, and he doesn't try to hide his past - he's not ashamed of it. This isn't the only scar Jack has from the war - in fact, his back is littered with scars after being tortured by the Carrows in the dungeons during his sixth year. They were too deep to heal properly by the time Madam Pomfrey saw to them.

Jack's largest goal is to one day be a Headmaster, but he knows that it's a fairly unattainable dream, given that he's unable to even be a Head of House at Ilvermorny due to being school at Hogwarts. Perhaps one day, by some chance, it will happen but for now, Jack is just focused on doing the best he can at his job.
amortentia:
The smell of burning wood, pumpkin pie, rainboggart:
Jack's largest fear is seeing another loved one of his be attacked by a werewolf. It would be reliving the worst moment of his life all over again.
Growing old by himself. He's fearful that he will never fall in love again, or have a family of his own. He doesn't want to die alone.
overall personality:
Jack is the very epitome of a man with a hero complex and he has been ever since he was a small child. He has strong morals, he's stubborn as a mule, and he will fight for what he believes is right, e.g. if he sees somebody picking on someone they perceive as being 'weaker' than them, then Jack doesn't hesitate to launch into action - even if he's putting himself into a dangerous situation. As a teenager, Jack was quite the hothead and got into plenty of fights over things he believed were wrong, using heated words and occasionally, drawing his wand. But as he's grown older, Jack has simmered down a lot. He hasn't lost his passion, but rather, gained enough experience to know that dealing with issues calmly and sometimes sternly will get his point across a lot better.
Jack is a huge workaholic, something that has effected his social life a lot (which will be expanded upon in his history). Some would say he throws himself into work to divert his attention away from his issues (and they'd be partly right), but Jack truly does want to make a difference. He wants to teach future generations how to arm and defend themselves, something that seems especially important now with the way that the wizarding world is heading.

n/ahistory:
Jack was the firstborn child to Eoghan and Róisín O'Connor, a humble, hard-working family located in Northern Ireland. He would remain their only child for eight years and even though his parents were worried about how he'd react to the arrival of a younger sibling, they didn't need to be. As soon as Maggie was brought into world, Jack was a shining example of an overprotective, loving big brother. Unfortunately though, due to their difference in age, Jack didn't get to spend much time with his adoring little sister for long because he went off to Hogwarts when she was only three years old. Jack only got to see her for breaks/holidays in the following years and to this day, he wishes he could have bonded with her more when they were kids.site events reaction:
During his first day at Hogwarts, Jack was swiftly sorted into Gryffindor. This was because as soon as the sorting hat was put onto his head, he refused to let the hat consider any other house. He wanted to be a Gryffindor just like his dad, and the sorting hat decided with a stubborn streak a mile long like he had, there was no other house more suited to Jack than Gryffindor... and he was absolutely correct.
Jack's first few years at Hogwarts were tumultous - would anything else be expected, as he was only a year beneath Harry Potter? - but things really came to a head during his sixth year. To put in nicely, that year was absolute hell for him and so many others. Being a member of the revived Dumbledore's Army, Jack didn't take the reign of the new authority well, actively rebelling against the ideas that the Carrows tried to shove down their throats.
One noteable moment during that year of hell was during a Muggle Studies class where the students were expected to echo the their sentiment that muggles were the root of all evil and a Hufflepuff girl refused to do. She was dragged to the front of the class so the other students could practice some pain-inducing spells on her and Jack stood up to tell the Carrows that what they were doing was wrong. He was told, 'If you're such a martyr, Jack O'Connor, then come sacrifice yourself instead.' Jack, being Jack, went up without hesitation and some of the students with less of a moral high ground took turns on him, but he refused to make a single sound. The Carrows didn't like that and so they took him down to the dungeons to make an example of him. They locked him up, taking turns torturing him and using the cruciatus spell on him. It went on for days until somehow, Madam Pomfrey was allowed to go and check on him. She convinced them that his back was getting infected and if they didn't let him go, then they'd have the death of a sixteen year old on their hands. She was the reason he was set free, and he's been eternally grateful to her ever since.
When the Battle of Hogwarts broke out, Jack fought alongside Dumbledore's Army and in the process, he wound up with a great big scar across his left cheek but besides that, Jack came out mostly unharmed... at least physically. Mentally, it was a different story and following the war, Jack was plagued with nightmares. He'd wake up in cold sweats almost every single night. Things only got worse when he returned to Hogwarts for his seventh year. Jack's trauma from the war manifested itself in other ways - he stopped sleeping alltogether, and he couldn't walk past the Muggle Studies classroom for months, let alone dare go down to the dungeons. It was a problem and when his roommate of seven years,Gus, picked up on what was happening, he all but shoved him through the hospital wing to see Madam Pomfrey. Jack was diagnosed with what the muggles called PTSD and he began therapy, flooing into St. Mungo's once a week to talk to healers who started helping him to heal.
After school, Jack helped his parents out for a few years on the farm, trying to figure out what his aspirations in life actually were. It wasn't until he was 22 that he figured things out after running into his old roommate, Gus, in a bar who helped him to realise that his true passion laid in teaching others how to defend themselves against Dark Magic. Jack enrolled in a training course to become a professor, intending to specialise in teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts... and alongside his studies, he began a romance with someone he never ended to - Gus. Things fell into place by accident and for the next few years, Jack was busy with a new career path and a boyfriend.
Finally finished his training, at 26 years old, Jack is ecstatic and his sister Maggie has just finished her own schooling, performing exceptionally well on her NEWTs. To celebrate both of their successes, Jack decides grabbing a few drinks is in order. When the two wrap up for the night, Jack and Maggie decide to take a leisurely walk back to her newly-acquired apartment, choosing to breath in the early morning air instead of apparating. This turns out to be the worst decision of Jack's life because as he watches Maggie climb up the stairs to her front door, she's suddenly pounced on by a rogue werewolf. Jack manages to get the werewolf off her and subdue them, alerting the authorities in the process, but it's too late. Maggie has been bitten and come the next full moon, she will transform into a werewolf. She spends a few days in hospital, recovering, and when Jack goes to visit her for the third day in a row, she's nowhere to be found. 'She signed herself out,' the hospital tells him when he asks where she's gone. Jack returns to his and Gus' apartment to find a note: Need time to find myself. I'll stay in touch. But... Maggie never does and after three months of trying to figure out where his sister has gone, Jack has an idea and decides he needs to take action and find her. He tells Gus of his plans and the next morning, he moves to America.
Jack searches high and low for Maggie, whilst simultaneously looking for a job, and winds up applying for the DADA position at Ilvermorny where he lands a professor spot. For the next 16 years, Jack works hard - both at finding Maggie, and at his job. He's unsuccessful at the former task but even though he hasn't found his sister yet, he's determined not to give up. She's got to be out there somewhere. When Ilvermorny is vandalised and professors are given the opportunity to move to Hogwarts, Jack decides to move with them. This choice is fuelled by two things - his desire to keep on teaching and the small voice in the back of his mind suggesting that maybe he got things wrong, maybe Maggie had disappeared in Britain instead. Jack's decision to continue teaching means that he has to switch from the already fulfilled DADA position to Dueling, however he's okay with that because it means he has more time to search for Maggie and also, to help out his ageing parents with the farm more often.
KINGSLEY SHACKLEBOLT FOUND DEAD - The news of Kingsley Shacklebolt reaches Jack all the way in Ilvermorny and a pit of dread immediately grows in his stomach because the murder of the man who was elected after the war is a sign that worse things are to come. Jack just doesn't know what type of things he has to expect.
LONGBOTTOM HEADMASTER INSTATED
- The string of attacks of muggleborns at Hogwarts have not escaped Jack's attention and for months, he writes letters to the current Headmaster of Hogwarts that they need to tighten security at Hogwarts, to protect the muggleborns, lest this leds to another war. He doesn't ever receive an answer from them but when he hears that Longbottom has taken over as Headmaster at Hogwarts, he breathes a little easier. Hopefully things will change under his leadership.
HEAD OF LAW ENFORCEMENT PROMOTED TO MINISTER
- Despite believing that Victoire Weasley was competent as a Minister of Magic, Jack is happy to hear the news of Hermione Granger-Weasley taking over because, he was sure, her age and wisdom would only be an asset to the job. Perhaps she would be able to help Longbottom gain control of Hogwarts which seemed to have gone up in flames with yet another massive incident at the school.
NEW HEADMISTRESS - 'McGonagall is the best thing for the school,' Jack remembers thinking when the news reached his ears. She was tougher, more experienced. He remembered her tenure during his time at school, and he believes that they truly chose the right person to lead the school this time round. He just hopes no more students are killed.
ILVERMORNY IN RUINS
- Jack is devastated by the part-destruction of his school, his home, for the last 16 years. Upon hearing that there is opportunity for professors to transfer to Hogwarts whilst repairs are carried out, Jack decides to go for it, switching from his normal position of DADA (already fulfilled at Hogwarts) to Dueling. Teaching an elective class gives him more time to focus on finding his sister (perhaps she hadn't disappeared to America, but in Britain itself) and to help out his parents when they need it. It's the ideal solution, at least until things return to normal at Ilvermorny.
