appearance:
Kal stands nine foot ten inches which is thanks to his half-giant heritage but his mother was no slouch either. Due to his active lifestyle he has a very fit muscular physique. A life of tending to the reindeer with little to no magical help requires one to be strong. That and the giant blood running through his veins helps too he likes to think. Unlike many of his fellow druids he did not inherit the ginger hair or freckles, which left him even more out of place. Instead he got the light brown hair from his giant father and the blue eyes of his mother.

overall personality:
Kal is the Epitome of a gentle giant. He’s kindhearted and caring to just about anyone or anything. Easily forgiving most people for most transactions. He especially cares for animals and nature. He typically has a very easy going nature and will rarely speak up unless he truly feels a situation wasn’t right or someone could get hurt. For most confrontations in his life his immense size has been enough to settle any argument or fight before it even began. Something he doesn’t use on purpose or instinctively it’s just clear he’s feet above people. Obviously a half-giant. It’s typically enough to deter most people, thinking he might know how to fight. Which isn’t true, honestly Kal has never been in a true fight before. He’s never had to and while he may seem imposing he’s just a friendly guy too worried he might hurt someone accidentally. Let alone on purpose..
Kal loves all creatures both magical and non-magical. Possibly even more than he does for most people. People can make things hard, they can lie or have some ulterior motive. Not creatures for the most part. They are honest in what they want or need. Taking care of the reindeer at the village was his pride and joy for many years. Being born part Druid also helped but Kal’s sure he would love creatures all the same even if he wasn’t a Druid. It just made the creatures more comfortable around him. That’s where you can find Kal truly at peace, surrounded by nature and creatures.
His village and creatures are all that Kal has ever really known. Now out in the larger world he finds himself lost. Both with everything that’s going on and the level of technology. Eventually he gets the hang of new technology and customs but it takes Kal just a little bit longer as so much is new to him. Along with his general aversion to technology anyway if he can avoid it.
While he might try to avoid technology the best he can so many other new experiences are a delight to him. Which doesn’t help him seem any less out of place as he takes some childlike joy out of new things he finds fascinating. Something he doesn’t exactly try to hide. it's the same child like joy he gets out of sharing information on creatures or just showing them off to people.

history:
Months before Kalju was born his mother was foraging for healing herbs and other plants in the nearby snowy woods outside the village. She was startled to find an injured giant hiding in the woods. The giant himself was equally frightened of the human in his injured state and tried to run. Getting mere feet away before collapsing to the ground in pain before passing out. Hertilda ran out of fear but stopped as she heard the giant's cries of pain. Slowly approaching once more she could see just how injured he was. Beaten, bloody and barely hanging on. Hertilda with the help of magic was able to move the giant to a nearby cave. There she began to treat the giant's wounds, fearing that it would be too late.
Steadily the giant did recover and eventually regained consciousness. There was a tense moment the next time Hertilda returned as he was awake, confused and agitated. She was eventually able to calm the giant, her Druid nature might have helped or he just knew that she had been the one healing him. An uneasy relationship formed as the giant allowed her to heal him and Hertilda slowly taught him a few words in her native language.
As the days turned to weeks, weeks to a months till the giant was fully healed. They eventually fell in love. Sadly the giant couldn’t exactly stay at the village with everyone else. He would return back to his colony deep in the mountains but returned every so often to see his Druid love. In the following months she was pregnant with a son, Kalju. Eventually his father never returned.
When Kalju was born he wasn’t much bigger than a normal baby. That quickly changed as he grew bigger and bigger, being twice the size of the other kids his age. It was no secret at this point that his mother was involved with a giant or that Kalju was a half-giant. The people of the village saw that If nature allowed it then it must be fine. Over the years Kalju did get some mild teasing from the other kids about his size, clumsiness and even the color of his hair growing up. He was always knocking things down, bumping his head into things and he didn’t have the very common ginger red hair many of his people had. His mother even had it but his was more brown than anything.
Kalju took all the teasing in stride, he knew they didn’t mean anything by it really. Everyone was just having fun so he never got mad. Kaiju rarely ever got mad for that matter. The only time he could think of was when one particular traveler was staying at the village began to be rude to his mother. The jabs to his heritage he could take but the man then directed his hurtful comments to his mother and her love for a giant. He could see how it visibly affected his mother. She had never been judged for her love till this moment. Kalju didn’t take it very well. Already at the age of ten he was taller than this and most adult wizards. He quite literally carried and threw the wizard out of the village. There wasn’t much objection from the villager after they were informed how rude the visiting wizard had been.
Still from that moment on his mother instilled in him that he shouldn’t be using violence when it wasn’t absolutely needed. He was already at a disadvantage being a half-giant. People in the outside world would already assume he was a violent person. Which nothing could be further from the truth. At a younger age than most Kalju started to take care of the reindeer. He had always been one for tending to animals around the village and helping out where he could but now it wasn’t just helping out because he could. He was assigned to do such a task from the village and he quickly loved every moment of it. Kalju loved animals with every fiber of his being, sometimes even preferring their company to other people.
His life stayed more or less the same for a number of years. He tended to the reindeer while learning more of the creatures around them. The many villagers shared their information and attempted to teach the younger ones magic. Sadly Kalju didn’t have much skill for it. He was lucky to get the most basic of magic down. Something he wasn’t too disheartened by. He would admit some of the magic others could do was indeed impressive but his passion was with the creatures of the world and for that he didn’t exactly need magic. Thanks to his Druid blood animals naturally came to accept him and enjoy his presence. Much like he did theirs.
There was a curiosity in him about what creatures existed in the rest of the world. There had to be so many more that he couldn’t even imagine. Some that people barely knew anything about. His mother encouraged this passion even if it meant leaving the village one day. She wanted great things for her son and if his dreams were to see and care for the many creatures in this world then it must be nature's will.
When he was seventeen the village was attacked by a number of dark wizards seeking some curse breakers. Kalju was away tending to the reindeers when he heard the attack taking place. By the time he ran back it was all over. A number of his fellow druids were dead but the dark wizards had been stopped. In his panic he ran through the village till he found his mother. Nearly knocked the door off the hinges to their home. Thankfully she was safe, which he was overjoyed by. There was some guilt he felt to be so happy his mother was alive while also mourning the loss of people he has been close to as well..
Kalju left to take the NEWTs as it would be required to follow his dream to become a magizoologist. He got terrible marks in all subjects but the care for magical creatures and potions where he scored incredibly high. Which was all he was concerned about. Yet with the recent attack on the village Kal never left, he couldn’t after what had happened. His people needed him, he felt and especially his mother. What if these types of terrible people came back.
For eleven years his life didn’t change much besides his height. Eventually he stopped growing at almost ten feet. Still taller than anyone in the village or any normal human for that matter but not as tall as some half-giants could get. After learning that he was a little thankful. He already had a hard enough time getting into buildings. Over those eleven years a number of his friends had left the village, not all but some wanted to see the world or leave because of the actions of the dark wizards in the past. To better protect the village's future. His mother knew how much he wanted to leave as well, that and how he secretly practiced a number of languages just to get by once he left the village if he ever did. She insisted he follow his dreams like everyone else. So long as he kept his village in his heart his home and people would never be far away.
The outside world was a strange place to him. Thankfully with the help of the few druids that had left before him and some luck he was able to make it through his first year in the outside world alive. He for sure seemed odd to an outsider and he got to deal with a whole new level of intolerance toward his half-giant side. Still his experiences were more good than bad. Kal still looked forward to every day he woke up. Each day was a chance to learn something new about the creatures living on this planet. He’s also come to enjoy learning more about the world in general even if he still couldn't wrap his mind around most technology easily.
site events reaction:
His people weren’t contained by any barrier like Hy-Brasil but they still didn’t get much news besides that of what the travelers who passed through would tell. Kal didn’t exactly like to hear what was going on but he also felt like it was far enough away that it didn’t exactly matter to him. The peace found in the village was all that concerned him. Leaving the village in the last year did cause him to have to pay attention to the recent going-ons in the world. He left his village around the time that the visiting schools for whatever tri-Wizard tournament was were attacked. It was terrible to hear and made him question whether he actually wanted to be part of the outside world. His village didn’t have these problems.
Kal still wanted to pursue his dream of becoming an accomplished magizoologist. So he braved through the uneasy feeling and kept going instead of running back home. There was a dragon attack that followed just before the turn of the new year, luckily he wasn’t anywhere near it. While that was happening Azkaban the prison of criminals and dark wizards blew up. Even more things he refused to write to his mother about. She would just worry and that was the last thing Kal ever wanted for her. Each event that followed left him just a little more uneasy. His easy going nature wasn’t meant for such going ones and his life in the village never prepared him for this. At times feeling overwhelmed by each bad event. Still he wasn’t about to be a coward and run back home. Determined even more to follow through with his dreams instead of turning tail.
