▲ The circus performed most weekdays and then did twice a day on the weekends. Mickey nodded his head as he mentally made a note of that. He’d probably be able to make some excuse of attending with the team as a bonding exercise or something. Assuming the manager and team owner had a problem with that. They never seemed to say anything about the excessive drinking or grueling hours of practice the players put in on a weekly basis. Sometimes he thought they played harder against each other in practice than they did against the other team. It was a real issue that they were trying to address, but it had been plaguing them for almost two seasons now. He believed that a break, outside of the holidays and post-season, was necessary. One where they only did light practice for the week prior to the match and worked on other things. Team bonding included. “No, I’ll make them pay. They won’t know what to do with themselves if they’re given something for free,” he stopped her. Booze was one thing, but any time they were offered free tickets to an event or a live show in a club, things got out of hand quickly. If they had to pay with their own money, they behaved themselves. Somehow money translated to responsibility and Mickey failed to make the connection, aside from the fact that he had witnessed it happening on multiple occasions now. “And you and the other performers deserve to be paid. I’d rather get the team owner or everyone to cough up the money individually than have them act like idiots with free tickets,” Mickey explained. “Plus they won’t pre-game as hard if they know their own money is on the line.” Then he also wouldn’t look like an idiot in front of his sister or the rest of the viewers. It was fairly obvious when a Quidditch team rolled in, and not all of their players were completely unknown in the sports world. @donatella ● 335 ● Song by Artist MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Ella worked hard at the circus, but there were a number of people she relied on and trusted there. That was a big reason why they were so successful as a performing group. She mentioned his team, but whether or not he did, was up to him and those involved. She didn't know what it was like for her brother. She could only draw from a short practice and one game that she participated in. Leaving that life, and going to the circus was quite a drastic change for her, seemingly quite uncharacteristic for her family.
She offered to get tickets for her brothers team, but he mentioned that he would happily make them pay. She laughed at that. "Deal, wouldn't want you slackers to get too spoiled." She winked at her brother. She rarely offered tickets, so she was sure that she would be able to get a larger number, but it wasn't exactly a guarantee. Though, she was confident that getting one free ticket for her brother wouldn't be an issue. She smiled at the idea of her brother finally seeing her perform. It made her so happy. "Well, then, you have to come and see the show. I'll hold you too it now."

▲ Spoiled. That was the word he was looking for. Ballycastle wasn’t good enough of a team to be spoiled, in his opinion, and it would probably be a while until they were allowed to act like the fools they were without retaliation from the league and media. Now they weren’t princesses either, daintily handling post-game interviews and the paparazzi. He hated that players were expected to be perfect and kind while the ones they were contractually forced to deal with could ask them all sorts of stupid, unsubstantiated questions. When he had first started out, every question was about his father. That had nothing to do with how well he performed in a match. And then there were the tabloids about how he was ever seen at night and how he could possibly be a vampire. Absolutely preposterous. That sounded like Satanic Panic nonsense he had read about from back in the Eighties. Tattoos, a moody attitude, and disposition for doing things at night didn’t make him a bloodsucker. A couple well-timed photographs during the day time amidst muggles put that rumor to bed quickly, but it had still been annoying. He didn’t want to become the next Bernhard Strom, the Norwegian beater that got booted from playing professionally because he didn’t know he was part-giant. That could have been treated way better by the International Quidditch Board of Directors too. They just wanted to make an example out of someone. “Even if the team won’t, which they will go, they like this sort of thing, I’ll be there,” he promised. These were the types of things that he had been working on over the last few years. Following through with plans, especially with his siblings. The years of grinding away at Quidditch practice got him where he was now at the expense of everything else. For now, this would have to do until it seemed like reparations were made. Playing Quidditch was fun enough, but working on a professional team was much more than playing on your house team. Their were endless practices, interview, and deep pockets to keep happy. It was the life her father wanted for all his children, and she had abandoned all of that to go and do what she loved. Sense she had left, and informed her father of this "betrayal" she had received very few letters from her family, many of those were angry letters form the man. But after a month or two they stopped, at least those form her parents. She had built a family with those in the circus. And she couldn't have been happier. Though she did miss spending time with her brothers. Sure she had a spotlight on her, but with a stage name, and being apart of a traveling circus, Ella was free to be herself. No one seemed to remember her from her performances, and that was fine. She didn't do it for the fame. She did it for the fun, and passion. Occasionally some people did recognize her, and that was always a bit of a rush. She happily signed their programs and wished them well, even taking a picture with some of them, if requested. But nothing like that of a quidditch star. But with fame, came the good and bad, she guessed. She caught some tabloid stories about her brother that were just out right ridiculous, and some articles that seemed quite possible.
Her brother promised that he would be their, whether or not the team wanted to go. That made her smile wide. "You wont regret it!" The thought of a family member finally coming and seeing her perform was exhilarating. Part of her was scared, but this was her big brother. Fear wasn't a bad thing, she could use that to ensure that she did her best. She'd be sure to give her best performance the time he chose to come. "And after you see the show, I can take you around the grounds." She offered. True, he may not end up coming, but if he did, she would be sure to give him the grand tour.

▲ The promise of tickets to a show and drinks following it was more than enough to get the Bats to attend. He was confident in that. Right now it was more of a matter of finding the time to do so, between matches and practice. They always figured it out though, and if push came to shove, they could start a practice day early so they could all attend. Otherwise it would have to wait until the off-season. Then they could make a day trip out of it. Which was infinitely easier for that crew. Maybe even drag whatever rookies they picked up during the league draft. Talk about a hell of an introduction to the team. It beat showing them around Ballycastle, which while scenic, had virtually nothing fun to do. He’d tried during his rookie year to find something worthwhile, and aside from watching the water or hiking through the countryside, there was nothing that a young person could find fun. Mickey was beyond thankful that they usually played more away games than home, because that gave the whole team a chance to escape Ballycastle. “It’s probably more interesting than giving a tour of the pitch,” he mused. A grand tour of a carnival certainly seemed exciting. This was the sort of thing that he missed out on when the team decided to do group activities that always ultimately ended up at bars or clubs. They all needed a change of pace, and he needed it the most. Ella was clearly proud of her work at the circus, which was something that all the McLaggen’s struggled to find. While he ended up doing exactly what he was born to do, he at least liked playing Quidditch. His body didn’t always agree with that sentiment in the morning, but it was still entertaining to play. “I look forward to it,” he raised his glass up to her before taking a long sip. Hopefully this would get the family ordeals all sorted out and back to normal again. Minus their father. [Mickey End] @donatella ● 341 ● On s'aimera toujours by Artist MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0
