Stop, what the hell are you talking about Get my pretty name out of your mouth Addy sighed. She was exhausted as she came through the Slytherin Common room entrance with her bag slung over her shoulder. She had changed back into her school robes after Quidditch practice, a habit at this point--though on second thought, she probably should have just left them on, and that would have been a decent explanation as to why she was out so late. The rules. The guidance of her life. She followed them explicitly, it was what she was supposed to do, and it had kept her out of trouble, unlike some of her classmates. However, she never received the same rewards for it. She didn't immediately notice anyone in the common room and only heard the sound of the fire crackling as she dropped herself into an armchair and equally dropping her bag next to it with a loud thump. She looked over at the other armchair and saw eyes staring at her, which caused her to startle. "Merlin--do you always sit there like some statue this late?" Although they were friendly and had known one another since first year, she still could never let go of how she had the honor of wearing that shiny prefect's badge on her robes when Addy did not.

November 1, 2025 Max appreciated that she hadn't had to do rounds that night, because she had had to spend most of her evening working on schoolwork. She realized about halfway through that she probably should have gone to the library, but she had already gotten herself comfort enough in the common room that getting up was a moot point, especially when the library was multiple floors away. It wasn't so bad, even as people came and went and—eventually—made their way to bed, leaving her as the only one remaining in the common room. Well, she had been the only one in the common room. Fully expecting that the next person through the door would be one of her fellow Slytherin prefects, but it wasn't. It was Addilyn Slater, who, being in seventh year as she was, should have known better than to be wandering the castle so late at night. Max didn't want to call her out immediately, so she waited for the other girl to sit herself down and realize that she wasn't alone in the room. "Merlin—" Addilyn exclaimed upon seeing that she was sitting there, too. "Do you always sit there like some statue this late?" Not knowing what to say to that at first, Max raised her eyebrows at Addilyn. "You know you should have been back here ages ago," she countered her, trying not to give Addilyn a reason to get angry with her. Clearly, she was already on the defensive, which meant that she had been up to something that she knew she really shouldn't have been. addilyn elara slater

top of the world but your world isn't real Max seemed just as surprised to see Addy, though her response was not an answer to her question but rather just something very Prefect-like. Then again, Addy might have similarly lectured her own friends. Brigh tended to like to venture out when they weren’t allowed too with Addy quick to grab the back of her cloak before she was able to venture anywhere. Especially because Brigh would drag unsuspecting Cheese and sometimes Eggy with her, who tended not to say no. This time, however, she had to admit it was a bit her fault. Cheese had met her in the pitch after the team practice had ended, and that had gone on longer than intended, but she’d never admit that out loud. At this point, her confusion about that whole matter had her willing to take detention instead.
Addy paused before she answered. Maybe it was just the exhaustion of everything today that left her a bit on edge versus her more friendly self. ”I had Quidditch practice.” She commented, taking a seat so she could get the energy to eventually go up to her bed. She let out a sigh, slouching a bit in her chair—very uncharacteristically. ”Sorry—just a long day.” Addy apologized. She didn’t need to be on a Prefect’s bad side at this point in her schooling career. After a few moments, she pushed herself up in her chair to sit correctly. Her back wasn’t used to how some students sat in these chairs. ”What are you still doing up?” She wondered, though perhaps she was just awaiting late students like herself.

November 1, 2025 "I had Quidditch practice," Addilyn answered her, seating herself. For as late as it was, that really wasn't much of an excuse. There were other students on the Slytherin Quidditch team, and they weren't streaming through the common room door so late at night. If all of them had been held up, or if it was obvious that Addilyn had been injured during practice or something, then obviously that would have been a different story. She looked more tired than usual, but there really wasn't much that Max could do about that, especially not when Addilyn should have been readying herself for bed already. "Sorry—just a long day," she added, moving back from the way in which she'd been slouched in her chair and into a more normal position.
Max didn't really want to have to go to the trouble of penalizing her. It was late, obviously, and Addilyn really shouldn't have needed to be told that she was back in the common room well after curfew. She was a seventh-year; she hadn't transferred from anywhere else, and there was no reason for her not to be familiar with school rules. Besides, she should have known that being on the Quidditch team was also a privilege. That was more of Professor Zabini's jurisdiction than Max's own, but it was something that Addilyn probably should have kept in mind, too.
Docking House points, on the other hand, was something that Max was perfectly capable of doing, and she almost considered answering with that when Addilyn asked her what she was still doing up. Instead, though, Max answered her truthfully. "I had some assignments and stuff to finish." She really wasn't sitting there just to monitor people. And then came the part about the House points. "You know I could take House points from you for this?" she checked. It was a verbal warning, more than anything, but Max had gotten over the sting of reducing Slytherin's House points total.

top of the world but your world isn't real Addy grimaced internally. Was that really the best excuse she could think of? She wasn’t like Brigh, who didn’t care if she was walking into trouble or breaking a rule and quick on her feet about it. There was the odd pressure in her back that reminded her she was slouching. She wasn’t used to it like some of the students. She could already see her mother’s disapproving look and snide comment if she’d walked in and caught her in such a state. This entire…affair or whatever one wanted to label this thing with Raphael that kept happening, she didn’t want to label something and give it life when it wasn’t supposed to or going to happen. But it was causing her to walk down paths she’d actively and easily avoided over the past seven years.
Breaking rules, coming in late into the Common Room after hours? This wasn’t Addilyn Slater. It had to stop. She nodded and was a bit surprised Max had answered her question. They had overlapping classes despite their different intentions after graduation. She glanced for a quick moment at the shiny Prefect’s badge on her classmate’s robes, but despite her lingering bitterness over that decision, she couldn’t say that Max didn’t do her position justice. Her parents had been less than thrilled that a Greyback of all people had gotten the position over her, but Addy had never minded the name. ”Charms essay?” Addy had finished hers earlier in the day, knowing she had Quidditch practice tonight. Her original intent had been to finish it the day prior, but her Wandless Magic assignment took longer than expected.
Max mentioned house points, and Addy’s eyes opened in panic for a mere moment, and she switched to a slightly pleading look. There was that knowledge that she would have caused a decrease in house points, guilt, and shame, but she was also too tired to also care. It was a strange way to feel. ”I know…” She muttered, looking down. ”But I hope you won’t. You know I’m not one of the troublemakers.” For someone like Addy, a warning was enough to make her feel like she lost a hundred points. But while she was never going to beg, she could perhaps be granted a one-time exception from the seventh-year Prefect.

November 1, 2025 There were plenty of students whose behavior was significantly worse than Addilyn's, and her coming into the common room so late was hardly the most terrible thing that she could have done. On a sliding scale of possible infractions, Max knew that that was a relatively minor one, but she wasn't a prefect because she was there to make the rules; it was simply her job to enforce them, particularly when the staff could only be so many places at once. Just because Addilyn might not have had a pattern of troublemaking behavior, as she was quick to point out to Max, didn't mean that she hadn't broken school rules. Was Max going to give her detention for that? Hardly, but she couldn't really permit anyone to skirt the rules, either. If she did that, Max thought, then she would be opening herself up to a whole world of other issues. If Addilyn Slater got a free pass, then of course other people would try to argue the same, and then what good were the rules at all, really?
"Five points from Slytherin for breaking curfew," Max stated, obviously hating that she had to say it, too. It wasn't a crushing blow or anything, and it at least got her point across. Would Addilyn be angry with her about it? Probably, but it wasn't as though they were best friends. She would just have to get over it. "And, yeah," she added, "Charms."

top of the world but your world isn't real Addy let out a small sigh. Losing house points was never a good thing, and she never wanted to be the reason for them. Five points might not have seemed like a lot, but it was for Addy, who wasn’t responsible for triple digits as some of her housemates were. Then again, she supposed it could have been worse. It wasn’t a good look for the once aspiring Quidditch Captain to be back in the Common Room so late, especially when Addy knew exactly what she had been doing. And it was the Prefect’s job. After all, Addy knew that had she been wearing that badge on her robes, she would have done the same—if not worse.
”Right.” She didn’t argue, the small wave of disappointment flooding over her, but it really a disappointment in herself. Expectations were a heavyweight to carry, and on days like this, Addy felt more tired than usual. Any conversation seemed pointless now as Addy was hardly in the mood, despite the advice she might have been willing to share on this assignment. ”Well I’m off to bed.” She noted, standing up and excusing herself.

November 1, 2025 Max could tell in an instant that Addilyn Slater was less than thrilled by the fact that she had just had House points taken away because of her having shown up to the common room after their curfew, but the rules existed for a reason. If they didn't have rules—and punishments for breaking them—then she was sure that there were students who would have taken advantage of that without question. Besides, it kept students relatively safer from possible harm. The likelihood of that was minimal with as many law enforcement officials as they had on patrol, but why risk ending up in the middle of something? It wasn't as though they were required to be in bed by sundown. At least, considered Max, Addilyn hadn't tried to argue with having been given that proverbial slap on the wrist, and that made it easier for the both of them. The more students tried to reason that what they were doing wasn't really that bad, the worse it usually got for them. On the bright side, at least she wasn't as strict as Professor Zabini—not that it was easy to match their Head of House on that front. "Well," Addilyn told her then, "I’m off to bed." Max nodded. She watched as Addilyn left and decided to wait for just a little while before going to bed for herself. The idea of another confrontation in the span of a few minutes wasn't terribly appealing. addilyn elara slaterOOC: Fin.
