━ wasted on sunday, erase you on monday ━ 13.12.2025
ANOTHER YEAR, ANOTHER GALLEON WAS all Ares could think when he was called last minute in for a shift at his job. Ares had kept a fairly low profile since Sutton returned to his life, participating in whatever the Purifiers had up their sleeves to the best of his ability but he truly enjoyed the relaxation he got from spending time with Sutton, his daughter Ashlyn and Sebastian. The two Lestrange children loved each other, something Ares wished for prior to their first meeting and now? His little family was coming together, as cringe as it sounded in the male's mind.
Twirling his fingers to initiate magic within the dirty glasses, Ares moved his fingers once more, sending the dirty glasses to the back and bringing the new clean ones to the front. Dark eyes looked across the bar that he tended to alone, smiling at the patrons who were getting into the Christmas period. The twenty three year old wondered most times if he was getting soft at the thought of spending the upcoming holiday with his family but his actions would always reflect the kind of person the Lestrange was.
"Hey." He slightly murmured over to the closest patron who's glass was only a quarter filled. "Want a top-up? On me of course."

I have a problem that I cannot explain I have no reason why it should have been so plain Rhys stared at his glass, only a bit of whiskey left in it. His instinct was to consume it all at once, but the hangover from the whiskey that Jasper and Renfri had confused the night did not have a friendly hangover. Not even with his tolerance level. Rhys suspected that the 'whiskey' could take the paint off the walls better than magic might, so he was taking his time tonight though he was motivated by the fact he didn't want to sink into the thoughts that ran through his mind. Fatherhood. It had been almost two weeks since he and Maria had discussed the news, though she'd sat with this information much longer than he had--it still hadn't felt as though it had quite clicked yet. The bartender spoke to him, and Rhys looked up. He'd seen him working here the handful of times he managed to wander in when he hadn't felt like stopping at his usual places. His usual was the Violet Hound, but he'd decided against it. Rhys wasn't even in the mood for kind words and a good meal. He just wanted to sulk. Rhys nodded, might as well if it was offered. "Sure, thanks." He pushed his glass towards him. The bar was busier than usual, but he suspected the holidays might have something to do with that. "Busy night?" He asked. Since he'd been slow on his way to a buzz, he needed some kind of conversation to keep himself out of his own head.

━ wasted on sunday, erase you on monday ━ IMMEDIATELY NOTICING THE FIGURE BEHIND the glass, Ares' smile rose. The man before him was somewhat of a...Regular at the Hogs Head as well as a variety of bars, drinking with what seemed to be friends. Ares himself had a few conversations with each of the patrons but felt it was unlikely any of them knew it was him each time they spoke. Speaking up to the male and offering the free drink, his smile sat comfortably as the patron accepted and Ares moved his fingers quickly, the man's next shot of whiskey being poured in almost straight away.
Bless Merlin for wandless and non-verbal magic.
Ares nodded slowly, using his hands to pick up a cloth, getting to work on the glasses around him that needed a brief polish while the magic around him sorted out those that needed washing and others that needed organising. "Kind of.." He answered briefly, looking around the bar once more and flicking his fingers up to fill the patron who seemed he'd die without another glass, while other areas were being cleaned with his magic. "Always get worse during this time. Holidays and all." He added, looking back at the male. "Any plans for this Christmas anyway?"

i have a problem
THAT I CANNOT EXPLAIN Such happy times such as the holidays always crowded places like the Hog’s Head. Individuals like Rhys who really had no direction or anywhere to go. Or they did and were actively avoiding them as he did. On the nights he didn’t want to talk and just wanted to drink, he would come here, and he’d seen this bartender on many of those nights but had never really spoken to him. But, places like this found kindred spirits. The bartender magically poured the drink while he tended to other tasks, and Rhys nodded in gratitude.
Rhys drank his whiskey. He wasn’t rushing to finish and going only as fast as his hangover would let him. The bartender answered him, and Rhys nodded. It made sense. Still, he wasn’t prepared for the question—however simple it was. Rhys cleared his throat slightly, staring at the old wooden bar in front of him for a moment. ”Not a lot. Will probably visit my sisters—half-sisters.” Rhys corrected himself. It was hard to see all of them since they all had their own family situations. ”Been an odd year.” Odd wasn’t the best way to describe it, but it was what came to mind. ”You?”

━ wasted on sunday, erase you on monday ━ IN MOST PEOPLE'S EYES, RECOGNISING a patron was kind of a bad idea. It highlighted an underlying issue but the Lestrange wasn't one to judge. If someone had a drinking problem, that was their issue to deal with, not Ares'. But looking upon the male, he seemed...fine? Ares couldn't put his finger on it completely, but even if there was something wrong with him it wasn't his issue to highlight or bring up. As the whiskey was poured for the individual, Ares smiled small at the nod he received in response. Patrons like him made the Lestrange realised he...didn't mind his job. Not liked or loved, just didn't mind it.
Raising a questionable brow at the male's response, Ares felt himself nodding regardless. With everything that had happened earlier in the year, weird wasn't even the correct word to describe it all. "You could say that again." He responded, chuckling quietly. "But regardless...Half sisters or not..They're still family right? Or are you not too fond of them?" Ares had barely spoken to his own family the entire year but instead worked on piecing his life together in the...least chaotic way.
But by any means, finally having a family structure didn't mean he wouldn't work on what he wished with the Purifiers. "Was meant to be settling down with the girlfriend but...Here I am." Covering for someone while they probably spent their time with their family. "Luckily...She wasn't too mad about it. But I'll make it up to her."

i have a problem
THAT I CANNOT EXPLAIN Out of all the places Rhys frequented, the Hog’s Head was where he felt the most anonymous. It could have been that the clientele minded their own business or just had far worse reputations than being a Greyback. Either way, it was peaceful in its own way, and especially when all Rhys wanted to do was drown out his thoughts, especially when he had no answers for his predicament. ”Yes, definitely still family.” Rhys gave a slight grin that lasts a few moments. Max, Juliet, and Dahlia were constants in his life. And even if they all had their own lives, it helped Rhys feel grounded to know they were there. So, he could say with certainty he was fond of them. Unfortunatley, it seemed that parts of his life were clashing.
Rhys nodded. That was something he didn’t have to worry about. Dating in any sort of serious way was not on his radar. And somehow, fatherhood had appeared on the horizon before the commitment of a serious relationship. ”That’s one thing I don’t have to worry about.” Rhys drank more whiskey but realized he was still sort of stuck. ”Well, not really.” He said with a slight sigh. Unfortunately, he hardly had anyone to talk to about Maria. And since he hadn’t even told his sisters yet, he hadn’t wanted to risk the information leaking through his friends. Rhys let out another somber sigh. ”You have kids?”

━ wasted on sunday, erase you on monday ━ NODDING IN UNDERSTANDING, ARES' LIPS grew into a small grin, similarly to the patron before him. In the midst of their conversation, Ares' fingers snapped, wandless and non-verbal magic playing a key in filling up the drinks of the other patrons who were scattered around the pub, before his attention was all on the males once again. "Having any kind of family is better than none. Even if its the one you chose and not your blood-related I suppose."
"Not really?" The Lestrange repeated with interest, lip twitching upwards. At the man's next question, the bartender found himself nodding, letting out a heavy sigh. "Two. And I'm not even thirty yet." Though he didn't regret either child. He regretted the night he spent with Sarah, Sebastian's mother and Sutton had been away for so long, Ares wasn't aware of his daughter until recent days. But with the two of them now dating and the Lestrange creating a strong bond with both of his children, he had nothing much to lose. "Yourself? Or are you not really on the dating scene like that?.."

THAT I CANNOT EXPLAIN Family had always been a sensitive topic of Rhys. It was hard to let go of things in his past. Maybe if he’d met siblings when he was younger, things might be different, or even if he’d had adopted siblings or half-siblings as Max did. As much as Rhys told himself he wouldn’t dwell on it, he could never entirely stop himself, and then here he was staring at the bottom of an empty whiskey glass as if it would reveal some answer or truth when the liquid was gone. But the bartender had a point, and he thought of his friends. The other kids that had befriended a small and scrawny easy target their first year. And they had notable names as well. Rhys nodded. ”I’ll drink to that.” Rhys said, drinking the rest of his glass. He had his circle, the ones that could ask anything of him.
But how did he explain people he might not have chosen, but now they were in that circle forever? He didn’t answer right away and was surprised by his answer. Two? Rhys was stressing about the first one, and he swore the man looked younger than himself. ”I—um. Have one on the way.” Rhys admitted. It was still early, and from what he and Maria could gather, he’d be a father come July. ”Next summer.” He added. ”But we’re not—you know.” Dating. Committed. All the stuff he’d never thought about nor sought. ”I never pictured myself with that kind of life.”

━ wasted on sunday, erase you on monday ━ TRUTHFULLY ARES DIDN'T FEEL CONNECTED to his family now he had created one of his own. His own little Lestrange family, alongside Sutton. It was odd, considering the bond he shared with his sisters and even the torture he once put through his youngest sister...But the memories of it all felt so distant. Like a thought at the back of his mind that was waiting to be itched, but the sensation was never felt. At the male's response, Ares let out a quiet chuckle, watching as he downed the rest of his glass, using his fingers to fill the man's glass once more.
"On the house." Ares smiled, going back to cleaning up around the bar before giving the other patrons a quick inspection. At the man's response, Ares stopped what he was doing, leaning over a dry area of the bar in amusement. "Not together? Dating?" He added in question. "Honestly I feel...Most of us never expect it. Especially with the ones we're technically not seeing." It happened to Ares anyway. Twice.

THAT I CANNOT EXPLAIN Rhys nodded gratefully. The bartender was far too kind, but he wasn’t about to turn down a free drink. It seemed they had stuff in common, and these were the topics that Rhys hardly had a chance to speak to many about honestly. Sometimes a stranger was the perfect person to have discussions with. One didn’t need to hold back. ”Right.” Dating. Rhys couldn’t imagine attempting that kind of dynamic with Maria. As much as he had enjoyed her company physically, they were barely making amends from his foolishness the previous month and getting on the same page to being anywhere near friends.
Plus, while he was committed to the cause of fatherhood—despite the honest anxiety and fear he felt. Commitment to a partner was an entirely different game for him. ”It’s a bit complicated…in fact, I was never supposed to see her again until she found out she was…pregnant.” Saying it out loud was entirely different from dealing with the words in his mind. It felt just that much more real. But the bartender had a point. ”Is that what happened to you?” Rhys asked curiously, wondering if he would even get an answer. Two children, that was something to imagine. Then again, it had been seen by that Seer that he had visited. Children.

━ wasted on sunday, erase you on monday ━ ARES FELT HIS SMILE WIDEN at the patrons question and in that moment, picked up a glass himself, snapping his fingers to pour his signature drink. "To be honest with you man.." The Lestrange began, taking the glass as it hovered in the air, taking a swing of the shot rather quickly. That's exactly what happened." He chuckled then, playing with the glass in between his fingers. "One night stand while drunk in a bar...Almost a year or so later, found out I had a son."
What Ares failed to mention was...Something like that happened twice. Except with Sutton, their relationship was genuine at the time and Ashlyn was just a few months younger than Sebastian. "Don't hang yourself up about it though...It can turn out two ways. Either its the reason your relationship becomes the best thing ever or the reason why your relationship becomes the worst thing ever. Let time decide I suppose."

THAT I CANNOT EXPLAIN The bartender didn’t seem to mind Rhys’ probing questions. He usually wasn’t one to pry, but it was nice to not feel alone in such a situation. When he got out of his head, Rhys realized that it happened more often than he realized. Most of his half-siblings existed because Fenrir had hung out in a bar, not that it was Rhys’ story. Though for the bartender, it was the situation of an actual one night stand. For Rhys…well, he could only blame himself really for marching up to Maria’s door that day, agitated and wanting. Like all that, internal anger craved its usual outlet. He supposed it was like his inability to put down the whiskey.
Now it was Rhys’ turn to chuckle a bit. ”She’s not the…relationship type.” Rhys drank more whiskey. The times they got along outside of sex were far and few in between. ”But I didn’t grow up with a father. I didn’t want to do that to them.” Rhys frowned slightly, furrowing his brows and wondering where that had come from exactly. But it was the truth. Despite his fear and anxiety, wondering if he would only make his future child’s life worse—he couldn’t stand the idea of running away. Rhys shook off the thought, clearing his throat. ”Erm—you said you had two? A boy and a…” He didn’t want to talk about himself so much, but small talk was easier with whsikey in his system.

━ wasted on sunday, erase you on monday ━ IT DIDN'T FEEL ODD FOR Ares to seemingly reveal his life to strangers, considering he was the type to never see a particular person twice. Unless he befriended them of course. But considering the male was drinking fairly heavily - including Ares' own contribution to it - the Lestrange believed the two would probably never see one another after tonight. As the patron chuckled and began to speak once more, Ares continued to clean, listening in and returning little hums and nods to show he was paying attention. For a brief moment he messed his own magic delivering the wrong beer to the wrong person, but with a quick flick of his finger the problem was resolved. In fairness, the mans situation was more interesting than any other patrons issues with the wrong beer.
"Is anyone really the relationship type?..I've always been told they take time." The bartender shrugged then, understanding the unknown woman's point of view - considering Ares was once a whore himself. "I get that. And funnily enough..I can seemingly relate. My parents were assholes so." More so, they were assholes to his sisters and after a certain age, the Lestrange was simply done with them. Noticing the frown on the male's face, Ares couldn't help but smile small. "That was your realisation face. The moment you realise you kind of know what you want." Ares noted, pouring the male a glass of water. "Have some water though, clear you out a bit."
As he asked about his kids, Ares nodded, using his magic to clean the other side of the bar, where another patron spilled their beer. "Keep your shit up and you're out John." He called over, turning his attention back to...Merlin what was his name again? "A girl. Both the same age but my little girl is just a few months younger." Ares paused for a moment, before adding. "Different mothers. If you're wondering."

i have a problem
THAT I CANNOT EXPLAIN Whiskey was the one thing Rhys could always count on. He’d tried it during his school days but hadn’t gained the affinity or palette until he started training after graduation. That and Renfri’s constant competition, and he couldn’t forget to mention that he’d found confidence in the bottom of a bottle. While his last couple of years at school were filled with Deva and then avoiding Deva, his luck changed a little bit seventh year. That seemed to carry over to drinking too much whiskey at a bar on a day off from training and suddenly having the confidence to talk to a stranger.
It was like how Maria had just approached his table that day with drinks in hand, and they didn’t even know who they were to one another till the following day. Much time had passed since that scrawny blue-eyed boy first walked into a pub in Egypt, and now he felt at home in them. Rhys shrugged. Maybe the bartender was right. ”I guess.” That might be true for some, but maybe he and Maria fell into that small percentage where it was an absolute ‘no’. ”I don’t think it's in the cards with her…but we’re friends now.” At least he thought so. They needed to be if there was to be any harmony in raising this child.
Rhys sipped the last of his whiskey in the glass and hardly noticed the glass of water being placed in front of him or the patron on the other side of the bar, causing a commotion. The thoughts in his own mind caused enough noise to keep all the other sound out. He glanced at the water but didn’t touch it yet. ”Boy and a girl…” Rhys repeated, but his following comment made him look back. Different mothers. It wasn’t unheard of, but the bartender seemed so peaceful in a way. Wasn’t that just asking for drama and trouble in one’s life? ”How’s that?” Rhys asked but then followed up quickly. ”I mean dealing with two mothers.” The Seer’s words after looking into the crystal ball still echoed in his mind.

━ wasted on sunday, erase you on monday ━ CONSIDERING ARES WAS ONLY TWENTY-TWO when he discovered the news about Sebastian, he didn't have much time or room to grow up into a fatherly role, or even bring anything to the table. He was young, made a few mistakes and it resulted with two children. But Ares knew within himself he wouldn't of changed anything for the world, considering his children were now the most important thing in his life. That and his relationship with Sutton. "Friends is always a good start." He admitted, giving a rub down of the counter once more. "Plus, you'll need to be civil if you wanna raise the kid together anyway...If it makes you feel better...It sounds way better than whatever I have with my son's mother." That relationship was...far from any relationship. But the custody war was more irritating.
As the other patrons amongst them calmed a little, Ares focused most of his attention back onto the male before him. "Yup. One handsome boy and a beautiful little girl." He repeated once more, proud of the little family he had. The Lestrange didn't mind providing more details on his...different-mothers situation but what else could he do? "Well. One was a fling. Accidental problem and now...She's not really around. She comes back every now and then, trying to convince me she's changed and whats to see the kid but..Even her parents don't trust her..So we share the custody. But my daughter's mother well...That was more of a surprise." Ares smirked then, reminded at how the two of them reconciled. "She's amazing though. And...Now we're dating. I guess you could say."
