you can't ever say that i'm breaking the rules if i can't glue them back together January 20, 2026 @johanson Unity. Solidarity. His father's words were still fresh in his mind, and despite all the doubt and uncertainty of the past few years, James felt a bit of hope. James hadn’t realized how much he had been leaning on his family, friends, and girlfriend for support until that tiny spark of hope had returned to him. Though it might not have been noticeable, he was still his friendly and good-natured self, always looking for the tiniest prank to play (although he had learned not to ever touch Claire’s desk again). It had been surprised to see so many faces in his father’s pub, though only a handful of them were new to him. It wouldn’t have been a surprise to see James himself there—ready to support Harry in his efforts. Both sides of the split had grown over the year and a half since the split, but now he knew there could be real progress.
James took his disposable cup of coffee and walked to the end of the coffee station where the milk and sugar were located, and he put a substantial amount of sugar into his coffee. His family would often note that he was having a bit of coffee with his sugar if he wasn't drinking his usual tea. Things were still rather busy as the Ministry finally began to create its perimeter around the new island, or so he was told by his friends in the Auror’s office, and Harry was coordinating ways to approach the island and figure out its’ secrets. James had not gone himself, and though he would go the second he was told to, he could see the uncertainly in his father’s eyes when the subject was brought up. It was probably best for another Potter not to put themselves in danger—though it was a bad habit at times.
Stirring his coffee with the small wooden stick, he glanced to the side and saw a young face, an Auror in training alongside his younger brother Albus. James had met Matt once or twice before as all the Law Enforcement members worked together at one point or another, but he didn’t know much about him. There was this impression James got from the young man that told him to befriend him. With a reunified Order, manpower in select Ministry departments was essential, but there had to be something the young man was looking for. Isn’t that why one became an Auror for the most part, there was always the secondary agenda to saving the world. ”They ship you off to the island yet?” He asked, tossing the wooden stick into the wastebasket and turning to face him.

notes here. words: #### | "Hm? No, surprisingly they haven't," Matt replied with a grateful chuckle. Glancing over at the oldest of the Potter children, he could tell that he carried a burden of sorts, which to Matt seemed to lean on simply being the son of Harry Potter. Then again, considering the state of the world... Well, it could really be anything, as Matt himself had his own burdens he carried and he didn't have a famous father to add on to that. Instead he just had an overwhelming sense of vengeance that he knew was dangerous to himself and anyone else. Letting others in to help him though was something he was uncertain about. Not out of a desire to be the sole holder of this burden, but out of a fear of the danger that anyone else would be in if they got involved.
"What about you? Had a trip out that way?" he asked with a raised eyebrow. He knew James Potter kept fairly busy, but the more experience you had, the busier you seemed to be. Matt was still learning all of that, but he'd also seen some of it from his father and how busy he usually was. Granted, the elder Johanson kept busy to avoid the thoughts of revenge that were also on his mind. It was difficult for both the elder and younger Johanson to keep their thoughts in check without some form of distraction. For Matt it was more so being around friends, but he was still somewhat cautious due to the whole concept of collateral damage. It made him jumpy, and that wasn't a good thing. He wanted a safe world, not a world that was nerve-wracking.

you can't ever say that i'm breaking the rules if i can't glue them back together January 20, 2026 @johanson James grinned. It seemed that those that were getting sent to the island were almost far and few between. By this point, there were hardly sending ‘new’ troops when they could send those that were already familiar. It was beneficial to the Order considering many had gone that way due to their profession—cursebreakers from the bank, Aurors from the Ministry, and Interpol agents due to the unclear borders. ”Not anytime soon.” James responded, an evident disappointment in his voice. Plus, hit wizards typically dealt with local matters that rarely required crossing borders. There was a drive to this kid that he could sense, but James naturally had an eye for such things—something he probably inherited from both his parents. But also, everything he had experienced the past few years had left him more observant than before.
”How’s your training coming along? Albus doesn’t tell me much.” That part was true, though James hardly asked. Their relationship was the best in terms of what brothers probably should be, but he gave Albus his space. Besides, he had other friends and family in the Ministry, so he wasn’t alone. James sipped more of his overly-sweetened coffee. With all the magic and resources available to them, one would think the coffee would taste less like a potion’s ingredient. There was a grimace on his face. ”Maybe they’ll find better coffee on that island…this coffee tastes like some experiment in the Department of Mysteries.” James looked down into his cup. It wasn’t that bad, but when did anyone ever not expect James to exaggerate from time to time.
