Petar was no Severus Snape. He was not extremely hard on his students, but he also wasn't as leniant as Horace Slughorn had once been. Petar liked to believe he was right where he needed to be, making him perhaps one of the more difficult teachers at Hogwarts. If he was like Snape in any way, it was in his dislike for Gryffindors and more of a favoritism toward Slytherins. But this year is his first year teaching, so many students have not yet figured that out unless they have had a run in with him in the halls. One thing can be said about Kovachev, however: he hates blood supremacy and those that preach it. He will not tolerate any sort of treatment from Slytherins to other students, and they will most likely find themselves in detention or losing a considerable amount of house points if he catches them muttering any sort of hate.
For his seventh years, Petar was hoping they had covered all of the necessary sixth year coursework enough to be able to work with today's lesson of sixth year review. Always a practical man who didn't like to rely on magic, Petar went up to the board and simply wrote REVIEW in all caps. This, he hoped, would be able to give him an idea of where his seventh years were. He wasn't unaware of how Potions was not everyones favorite class, so this would really be able to weed out who was a fan... and who wasn't.

Potions. This class was certainly not Alice's favorite. Actually, she thought it to be rather stupid. If only because she was so awful at it. She found herself actually dreading the first class as she made her way back down to the cold dungeons after lunch. She was wondering what kind of professor the new guy was... Would he be absolutely delusional or would he actually know his stuff? Either way, it was likely that Alice would not do well in his class, therefore probably not having a good relationship with the professor.
Upon entering the gloomy potions classroom, Alice noticed the professor up at the front of the class. He was young. Quite handsome, as well. She rolled her eyes, thinking of how all of the other seventh year girls would likely be fawning over him. Surely he would have favorites by the end of class and Alice was certain she wouldn't be one of them. She didn't greet the new professor but instead took a seat toward the back of the room. She was sure that this was probably already making an impression on him for she was one of the first students and she was sitting in the back? This term was likely to be interesting.

Kat entered the Potions classroom casually. She had never been overtly fond of her Potions Professor; but then she generally kept her distance from all of her Professor. But some of her friends always assumed she'd have a flaming crush on Professor Kovachev because of her affinity with Potions. Truthfully, however, Potions class was largely boring to the Slytherin. Not that she didn't take the class seriously, but she would often complete the easier assignments early and be forced to sit around watching others try to finish. Which was not exactly her idea of a well-spent half hour. Regardless, in their seventh year, they were assigned much more difficult potions and such a happening was rare now.
Kat half glanced at the Professor but took a seat at the front of the class instead of conversing with him. She hadn't even taken notice of the other students who'd come in before she did. Formerly, she would have sat in the middle of class, but preferred the front now because she didn't want a view of any of the other students. Her back straight, she crossed her legs firmly under the desk and pulled her leather satchel onto her lap. With a few failed tugs, she finally hoisted a roll of parchment from the bag, Kat peered inside and sighed to herself quietly. Usually she was more mindful of her bag's contents and impeccably neat. But that was gone, Kat shifted and her bag fell to the floor with a clatter rather louder than she'd anticipated. She put the parchment down and extracted a quill and ink set from another tidier compartment from her back and began to write the date.

Cori didn't dislike potions in the least. In fact, the class gave her hope. So many kinds of potions were used to help people with their various ailments. She couldn't help but want to learn more. She came to class early, almost ecstatic as she came into the room. She looked around for Maryn and then her hurt sunk, he good mood vanishing. Her best friend had finally decided that going back to America with her mother was the best thing for their family. Maryn King was gone. Cori felt a gaping hole in her heart at the thought of losing her best friend, but she couldn't deny that she supported that decision.
Seeing Alice in the back of the classroom made Cori even more upset. She would sit in the back to sulk about Maryn, but that wasn't an option with Alice there. Cori walked past her, purposefully not even making eye contact with the Hufflepuff. She took a seat on the second row and set her bag on the floor. Hopefully potions class would have some good news, or at least in interesting lesson. She didn't doubt that it would.

Abby skipped into potions class with a giant smile and a big wave at the Professor. She had to do good in this class, it was vital to being accepted into the Auror Training Program. She marched right up to the front and sat down, glad but sad that none of her friends were there to distract her yet. She immediately pulled her book out of her bag and set it on the table in front of her, trying hard to focus.
Her leg bounced up and down under the table as she waited for class to start. Normally, she wouldn't have been this attentive or on time but she had made a late decision that she actually wanted to do something with her life after school. Future planning was frustrating! She was grateful that her sister, Jo, would be in this class because then Jo could force her to concentrate. She had already asked her Ravenclaw copy to make sure she didn't get distracted.
Which wouldn't be easy. Every class Jo had been to so far she had been itching to find out if Theo was there. She had no idea what classes he had signed up for, and that was driving her up a wall. The fact that it was driving her up a wall also drove her up a wall. So, as she waited, she kept her eyes straight ahead, never looking back at the door. Concentrate on school, on class.

Potions class was loads of fun for Ethan. Not. He felt like it was on of his worse subjects. He didn't mind all of the paperwork and studying, not at all, but the hands on stuff was what really got him. Not too mention his ADD really made it hard to focus on stirring a pot for thirty minutes at a time. No, potions was not Ethans strong suit. Luckily, he didn't really need it to be a Quidditch player. The reason he kept at it was because he wanted to get better, even if that was hard.
He stepped into class, somewhat nervous about the prospect of class at all. Sam wasn't there yet, which made Ethan frown. He crossed to the second row and sat a few feet over from Cori. He noticed Abby tapping her foot and smiled, she was just as restless as he was. Alsciuakat was sitting in the chair diagonally in front and to the left of him. He had barely ever spoken to her and didn't plan to make it a thing.

Des wasn't like in love with potions but eh, it was a class. It didn't really sway her either way. She really wasn't even sure why she had decided to take it for her last year, but there would probably be some good in it, right? Her best friend (or something) Elaine was in the class and so was their new friend Theo. It was sure to be a fun adventure no matter why she was there.
She walked into class, giving every single person in there and individual wave before sitting on the front row, right next to Kat. "Hey there Kitty, how's the catnip treating you?" she said to Kat in a sickly sweet voice. Desi and Kat hated each other, that wasn't a secret. Although, Kat was just like Desi in most of her standards of living, but that didn't make a difference.
Desi also turned around and blew a little kiss at Ethan, her favorite little toy.

Sam always had a fascination with Potions and it was one of those classes that did seem to find a way to being easy for the boy. He could read how to do something and just manage to brew the potions without much effort at all. Sometimes he wished he had this ability with Qudditch but alas, this was not in the cards for Samuel Baxter. He supposed he'd settle with making good potions over Qudditch because he supposed having a skill like this would help in an everyday world. It had even been brought to his attention at one point that he should consider a job in distributing potions, but his heart had always led him to the want to be an Author someday, while he worked in the Daily Prophet...that was his dream.
Stepping into class he looked around for an empty seat, and noticed one that was directly behind Ethan Johnson. Now, generally, Samuel would always drift directly toward the back right corner, but alas again, someone just so happened to be sitting in his seat. It didn't matter if his friends were around, or who was around, he always drifted to the back because it was comfort for him. Sighing a bit, he ruffled up his hair, plopping down in a hesitant matter behind Ethan. His hands quickly going into his book bag as he pulled out supplies for the class. It seemed today would be an easy day...a review day. This being a slight bummer for the dark haired boy, because he was really looking forward to new material.

Petar was quite ready to start the lesson but they still had a few more minutes until the bell rang, so he would have to wait just a bit longer. Students began to trickle in and as Petar sat up at the front of the class, his hands behind his back, he took in the appearances and actions of each of them. He did this to get a general idea of how each one acted and presented themselves, as it would give Petar some good idea of how they would perform in class. First was a Hufflepuff girl who sat in the back of the class. She was sitting alone. Petar had a soft spot for the more quiet and lonesome types but the girl would have to prove her worth in her potion-making. A Slytherin girl was the first to sit at the front and immediately take out her quill and parchment. This impressed Petar as that told him she was likely a good student, eager to learn. He gave her a nod. A brown haired Ravenclaw girl then marched in, taking a seat in the second row. Whenever a student took a seat in the second row whenever there were still open seats in the front, this made Petar believe they were willing to learn but were likely unsure of the professor or the subject itself. Petar took note of it but nodded at this girl as well.
And now a Gryffindor entered. When it came to houses, Petar disliked Gryffindor most of all. His own worst enemy had been a Gryffindor. He made a quiet noise of disgust to himself as he thought of John Cain but as the Gryffindor girl waved at him, an eyebrow raised at her. It wasn't everyday that students waved at him so happily. Then she even sat down in the front. Petar looked at her for a moment, not being able to bring himself to be annoyed with an eager student so he nodded at the girl in return. Lastly, three more Ravenclaws entered. Petar thought for a moment about how this class better be impressive, with the amount of ravens flocking to it. The first boy sat down, looking less than thrilled to be there, and then the girl sat down in front next to the Slytherin girl. Instantly he could tell that that was probably going to be a problem. It would save that for later, if need be. The last boy seemed to linger for a moment as he decided if he wanted to sit toward the front or the back, finally deciding on sitting behind the other Ravenclaw boy. Petar thought he had seen disappointment in the boy's face when he glanced up at the board. Petar wondered for a moment why no one had even bothered to make a move toward the Hufflepuff. No matter, there was still time for others to show.
Petar walked over to the other side of his desk, his hands still behind his back. "Take out your potions books and turn to page 311 while we wait on the rest of your classmates," he directed the early students. Page 311 just happened to consist of a wit-sharpening potion, but this wasn't at all what they would be reviewing today. Petar liked to keep his students guessing or thinking the entirely wrong thing. While now they would be believing they would be making wit-sharpening potions, they were indeed going to be reviewing Golpalott's Third Law and brewing the ever so dangerous Amortentia, something they should have done in their sixth year. Petar would be supplying the ingredients after everyone arrived, at which time he would be taking away their potions books.
