type to make you cry type to put a price Diana opened her book, flipping through each page after skimming it casually and not too quickly. It was a visibly old book and one that she would have never acquired by traditional means. Perks of her occupation, she supposed. It listed ancient curses, the knowledge she sought out in her school days (though only for knowledge), but now it is more beneficial to her work and finances. Her last job had been rather simple and even stupid once she thought about it. A request for some “dark” version of the Curse of the Bogies—enhanced effects, throw in some hallucinations, and really it was like a fever dream one could cast on a person. Not that impressive in Diana’s book, but it meant galleons in her pockets and more connections in her network.
Her hair had been blonde the past few days. It had stopped bothering her long ago to look in the mirror and be reminded of her sisters when she saw it. It was just her regular cycle of colors now, though she also felt pleased that she had acquired this book. She heard voices, the usual hustle and bustle of people in the safehouse. She kept hearing about this mysterious island that had appeared, but she wasn’t needed there or at least not yet as far as Diana knew. When marching orders were issued, she would follow, but in the meantime, she stuck to her usual tasks. A woman walked into the room, her hair was blue, and she didn’t look particularly friendly, but Diana recognized her. ”Heard you ended up on the island.” She spoke loud enough to be heard, tone almost bored, but she continued flipping through her book--her hair shifting to an almost auburn color.

Having been to the new island that Fae the High Druid claimed was some mythical place called Yrisle not once but twice, Sarah had had more experience with the place than most of the other Purifiers. The downside was that that wasn't because Elaine had just chartered her a boat—which would have been awfully nice, in Sarah's personal opinion—but because the job that Elaine had managed to get her once she had gotten out of prison meant that she was some semblance of a respectable citizen who had to do things like escort fairy princesses to places that even she hadn't thoroughly explored. It was all very standard, really, but apparently word had gotten around the organization, even in the Purifiers' safehouse. It was Diana Bainbridge (who, with blonde hair, looked eerily like her sisters) who brought up the topic, though Diana had been so engrossed in whatever she was reading that Sarah hadn't even realized that Diana had realized that she was there. "Heard you ended up on the island," she said, her hair changing its color as she spoke. "You make it sound like I was shipwrecked," Sarah remarked drolly. That probably would have been the better option, really, not that she would have had a way of getting off of the island if that had been the case. Reminded of Fae's hair because of Diana's, though, she made mention of it. "Twice. And you should have seen the High Druid," she added, almost gossipy in her tone, too. "She's a Metamorphmagus, actually, but I've never seen someone's hair change colors so quickly like that…" It had been kind of remarkable. Sarah moved her hand in a slight circle to indicate what she was talking about and grinned, licking her tongue against the horseshoe-shaped jewelry in her smiley piercing. "I mean, just… cycling through the rainbow."diana eoina bainbridge

type to make you cry type to put a price Sarah responded in a rather bored tone as if this island business was hardly anything to worry about, but Diana was still curious. What she didn’t know was that Sarah had been with the High Druid. She figured that it had just been a boring work assignment. The fact that the High Druid was a Metamorphmagus, just like herself, was a bit fascinating. Diana didn’t know much about the Druids outside of what she had read at Hogwarts in the Library, and she supposed the thought hadn’t crossed her mind that they existed in their society. ”Really?” For a moment, her cool exterior faded with her innate curiosity, but only for a moment.
Diana paused to think. ”I wonder if mine would do the same?” It was a rhetorical question, one to herself mainly. Not that Elaine had any reason to send her there, and not as if she could refuse if she chose to. ”Nobody has really talked about the Island. What’s it like there?” Again her curiosity was fueling her questions. But at the same time, she thought about her work and if there was a way to connect it. It was unlikely, but it's what she thought about most days to keep her mind off other things.

January 10, 2026 "Really?"
Diana's interest seemed to have been piqued by what she had just told her about going to Yrisle with the High Druid and how the other Metamorphmagus's ability to control her hair color might as well have jumped ship on the way over to that weird island. About then, Diana questioned aloud if her own hair—as she was, coincidentally, another Metamorphmagus—would do the same. Sarah knew that Diana hadn't been asking her, really, and that it was more of a rhetorical question, but it was reasonable to ask. Sarah wasn't sure that it was whatever controlled being a Metamorphmagus that had been triggered by the place, especially not with as much of a fairy princess as Fae had seemed to her, but she had no way of confirming that other than possibly bringing Diana onto that red sand beach to see for herself.
Speaking of the island itself, Diana mentioned that nobody had really talked about what it was like there. Sarah wasn't too surprised by that, especially not knowing how far inland anyone else involved with the Purifiers had gotten. No one had sat around a table to compare notes and devise a plan with Elaine yet, though Sarah personally felt that that would have been immensely helpful to them. Fae had sounded like she wasn't going to stop until she had accomplished whatever in Merlin's name she had been going on about in relation to a bunch of old Druid stories that were probably a lot of half-truths, and it was too difficult to tell who in the Ministry would or wouldn't believe her.
"It's strange," Sarah replied. That was the most accurate way to describe it. "Not like, 'Oh, that's different, isn't it?'" she clarified for Diana. "I mean, it's bloody weird… I was there with Karkaroff both times, and then Fae—the High Druid—the second time." She didn't know if it was just because of who her traveling companions had been or what the issue was, but none of the three of them had seemingly reacted to the island in the same way. "Really, even the beach is red," she explained. "It looks like rubies or something, but I've touched it, and it's completely normal sand."

type to make you cry type to put a price Diana wondered if her own metamorphmagus ability would be affected by the Island. But she didn’t even know where to begin in terms of interpreting what kind of magic was there, but it absolutely piqued her interest. There was that fire of curiosity that had mostly been put out years ago. The feeling felt familiar but strange. Diana knew a bit about Druid society and culture, mainly from reading, but it was probably an interesting experience to speak to the High Druid herself. Diana wondered what kind of person she was like.
”Did you bring any back?” Diana blurted out a question. A mysterious red ruby-like substance had her attention for a few reasons. The first reason was that she could study it, speak to other Purifiers who had more equipment and see if it had magical properties. Maybe it could be used to modify potions as an added ingredient, or it could be used somehow as Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder was. But then again, if she did study it here and it had some helpful property—no doubt Elaine would make Diana distribute the information to her fellow purifiers. ”That explains the Cursebreakers…” She trailed off, remembering what she had read in the paper and the whispers she heard while walking in Diagon Alley. The bank probably thought the sand was actual rubies.

January 10, 2026 "Did you bring any back?" Diana asked her about the sand of which she'd only just spoken.
Sarah shook her head. As much as she had wanted to explore all that she could of that island, she hadn't been able to, and it wasn't her fault. She probably could have picked up a sample of the sand without seeming at all suspicious for having done so, but she hadn't been as focused on that at the time. Maybe she should have been, she considered, but she also had no idea if the sand could be safely removed from the island.
"That explains the Curse-Breakers…"
Were the goblins at Gringotts stupid enough to think that there were really precious gems in the sand out there? It was hard to say, though the bank stood to make a killing from something like that—provided that the Curse-Breakers weren't killed first. That was what was so odd, really.
"I doubt they'll last," Sarah told Diana upon thinking some more about it. "Karkaroff and the High Druid were a bit…" She didn't know how she was supposed to put it in a way that didn't just sound like an insult, but she knew that she needed to for the sake of clarity. "Neither of them were acting… normal. Not Imperiused or anything," not like that at all, Sarah thought, "but it was like they could feel something that wasn't there?" They hadn't exactly sat around to talk about their feelings, but even Anastasia Karkaroff had been open with her about not feeling quite right.

type to make you cry type to put a price Diana was a little disappointed that there wasn’t anything from the island she could inspect. In moments like this, Diana’s true self shone through. That curious nature to know what things were and why. Sometimes she didn’t feel it at all, like she was just a shell of a person but now and then, it reappeared. However, an island covered in rubies seemed like some ridiculous and far-fetched muggle story. But then again, these couple of years, Diana had grown comfortable in the shadows of seedy places where she saw things she could never imagine. Much like that strange family that constantly visited the black market. Some man, a child that wasn’t his, and several girlfriends. They made everyone uncomfortable.
Sarah continued to explain her experience, and Diana listened intently. Karkaroff, she knew the name but not the person. Perhaps it was related to the Karkaroff in Knockturn Alley, but Diana wondered if it was like figuring out which Weasley was a sibling or a cousin. The only reason she knew was because they were neighbors with the Potters. ”Did they say what?” Diana couldn’t really make heads or tales of that description. Unfortunately, Diana didn’t have time to ask Sarah a hundred more questions—duty called. Her phone buzzed, and Diana jumped slightly. Without checking, she knew who it was. ”I actually have to go. I’ll see you around.” Her demeanor changed. Diana had almost been her curious old self again for a few minutes, but her phone had only brought her back to reality.

January 10, 2026 "Did they say what?"
Apart from the fog, Sarah couldn't recall that Anastasia had elaborated, and Fae had been too distracted by whatever in Merlin's name had been going on with her hair to have her end up in chameleon mode. "No," Sarah replied, though that was something she could follow up on. She'd been there; it wouldn't come across as being as suspicious as if she'd only heard it from someone else.
Diana, however, cut short their conversation when she heard her mobile phone buzz, saying that she needed to leave without elaborating. There were always reasons to duck out at a moment's notice around there, not the least of which was to keep the Purifiers from being exposed. Sarah knew better not to keep Diana and gave her a stiff nod of acknowledgement. It was just business, in the end.
