Dear Phil,
Hi, sweetie! First I'd like to congratulate you on becoming a member of the Slug Club, that sounds really fun! Secondly, I'd like to say how excited I am that you get to have a Quidditch match soon. I know that you'll do fabulously. Lord knows where you got the talent, your father and I both didn't play. But, that's not important--what's important is that your wonderful!
How are classes? How are things? I hope that you are working hard because you know how I feel when your marks come in and they 're all... you know. Just keep doing a good job, okay?
I hope you visit your father often. He really does love seeing you! I can't wait to see you for Christmas break, darling!
Love, Mommy
@philip

Dear Mum,
First of all, as usual, thanks for checking up on me. I know you often send us letters, but I always do appreciate it whenever you do. It shows how concerned you are for our well-being and interested in how we're progressing at school. It's not something that I would take for granted. I know that Dad takes good care of us here, but I really do miss you, Mum.
Thanks for the congratulations. I'm really glad that I got the invitation. Truth be told, I wasn't expecting to get one at all. Even though I do my best to get good grades and to aspire to my goal of becoming a herbologist, I'm not the brainiest person in all of the land. I also know that my confidence in myself can use some work. Perhaps I doubt myself too much! Seriously though, this was something that I thought was more of an Alice thing. I guess it can be a Philip thing as well, and I'll do what I can to not mess up in the party. I'll just...pretend that I'm in a job interview. That should make me cautious enough not to say or do anything unsuitable.
I'm really looking forward to that game, too. I can't wait to play. I'm surprised that I'm not as nervous as I usually would be. I'm actually really eager...there's no fear in me, just a sense of competitiveness and excitement. Usually, in circumstances where I have to go against someone or be stared at by a crowd of people, I tend to become insecure and shy. I'm really glad that isn't the case, because I can't afford to be that way if I want to concentrate on doing right by my team. But I'm not as optimistic about winning...sure, we're great, but the Slytherins are good, too. Oh well, we'll see what happens...may the best team win, and it's just a game. Nothing to get too worked up about...haha...and I guess I get this talent from Uncle Carson, since he seems to have passed it down to both Finley and me.
I assure you that classes are good, if my Slug Club invitation and your enthusiasm about that wasn't an indication. But I understand your concern about how I'm currently coping. I must admit that classes are difficult and stressful, especially when keeping up with the homework load. But I'm managing quite well, luckily. You shouldn't be surprised, knowing how much I fear you and your wrath. Joking! I definitely want to make you proud, so I'm not going to allow myself to slacken anytime soon. And yes, I shall continue to do my best!
I'm not sure about that, Dad loving to see me, but I will pay him occasional visits on your behalf and as you wish it from me. I'm sure he wouldn't mind too much if I tell him that it's because you want me to see him. I'll leave that up to you to decide whether I'm being honest or not. And I look very much to seeing you for the holidays, mum! I really cannot wait for the break to come. I'm tired of schoolwork and would like nothing better to do than to, you know, take a break and spend time with you all. We always have fun together. I also know that a break should be good for you, too. You do a lot at the Leaky!
Speaking of which, how are you doing, Mum, and how is managing the Leaky going? I know it must keep you busy. I hope that all is well and no trouble finds itself your way, though.
I can't wait to hear from you again!
Your son, Philip
